Pre-requisites:
a) Rooted
b) CWM Installed
c) Sim Unlock Code
I could not find a straight forward way to get the ATT SGH-I727 Unlocked and working on T-mobile so I thought I'd make this short list of instructions for those going through the same trouble.
The first thing I had to do was unlock the phone. I contacted a local company that charged $35. Free options failed. Expect to pay. There were mentions of calling ATT for the unlock code which I did, however, the CSR looked up the IMEI and determined that the unlock code was not YET available. From what I gathered, because the original phone owner was still under the two year agreement, this unlock was on hold until that time period was up. Those that bought their phone outright without a contract are provided their code with a call to customer service.
With the phone unlocked, I still couldn't get the phone to connect to a T-mobile signal. With a tmob sim, either a no-signal icon appeared or the phone simply showed full ATT bars but wouldn't allow T-mobile use in options. Also, *#simunlock# would generate a com.android error.
Finally, the following formula allowed for an unlocked phone picking up T-mobile signal:
1. Install the STOCK ICS UCLF6 4.0.4 - UNTOUCHED - rom following the instructions on that page impeccably.
2. Install Busybox (may not be necessary)
3. Install UCLF6 modified boot Kernel
4. Install T-mobile compatible radio - Blaze_4G_LB7_ICS_Radio_MOD worked for me
Boot it and see if you have a signal. You may need to go to options and manually choose T-mobile.
After that, I was able to install a different ROM. I chose SKY-ICS 4.2F6-2.6.1
With any new rom, you will still need to flash a tmob supported radio.
My s.o. will be using this phone, so I won't be messing with other roms, unfortunately. Let me know if you have a fast and stable configuration.
I hope this helps.
Actually as the radio is deeper than the firmware we flash normally you should only need to flash a tmo radio once unless a rom has radio built in most all roms do not

Does it make a difference whether I install the stock ics and kernel you provided? All I did is update the phone to ics via kies, install a recovery, flash superuser, then installed the blaze 4g radio. Would it make a difference between doing what you said and what I did?

It works, but its very crappy, sometimes connects, sometimes doesn't, even followed this post's instructions, still has crappy connection
For those who have T mobile fine on the Skyrocket , how much DL and UP speeds are you getting (and compaired to true T mobile phones data speeds) ? I heard some say they never get more than ~1 or 2 mbps which sucks TBH
Heard this is the hot T-Mobile skyrocket radio.

Are you trying to get Call/Text connection or 4G HSPA+ Connect?
Works on WIND too!
I spend a while trying to get this phone working on Wind (Canada's 1700 AWS carrier, similar to Mobilicity / TMo). I've finally succeeded by doing the following.
1: Install latest ICS STOCK
2: Use CWS to flash AT&T UCLF6
I have not been able to get nearfield working with this modem, but it's working great other than that (albeit somewhat slow UL/DL speeds, but that's likely a more wind's crappy network than the phone). Let me know if anyone has any ideas regarding the Nearfield issue.
Just wanted to share. I have been made so freaking happy by the fact that this worked
I bought my SR for full price (549.99) months ago and stupid att also saying my unlock code is not available yet !!

My Girlfriend bought me the new Verizon Samsung S4....not knowing that each phone is "tailored" for the carrier. She used her upgrade for me for Xmas and instead of telling her "i cant use it" and have her feel bad, i would like to Flash a T-Mobile Stock Rom onto the S4.
I currently have my T-Mobile Sim card in the S4, and it actually does work for Voice Calls, but Data wont work. Ive tried configuring several different APNs to it (per T-mobile's website). But i still just cant get Data. I also can not get "wifi calling" because Verizon's Rom does not offer it.
So quick questions:
-Do I need to have Root in order to Flash my Verizon S4, with a T-Mobile Rom. I am assuming Yes.
-Would any T-Mobile, Stock Rom, that works with android 4.2.2 be compatible?
IS IT AS EASY as i am hoping? I am not shy to the Rooting/Unlocking world, so if its possible, i will get it done.
Here is your fix

This is how I did it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2560128
On holiday in the USA I was given an new Verizon Galaxy S3 SCH i535 by a friend, and was very pleased until I tried to used it back home in the UK. I realised that the only way to to use it effectively in the UK was to unlock it and root it. I had some previous experience of rooting a T-Mobile Dream so searched and came across the "Casual" method. The phone was stuck on Android 4.0.4 and I was unable to update to 4.1.1 so I decided to go ahead with the 'Casual' one click process. It worked and my phone was rooted, and now I am using a UK sim, but I have no mobile data. After doing more reading I realised Android 4.0.4 was a bad release to be stuck on with a Verizon phone. So my questions are:
1. Is there anyway I can use the phone in the UK and get data without using WiFi?
2. Should I un-root the phone and try to upgrade to 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 before doing anything else?
Regards

Basically you need an option to edit your APN. Your phone needs to be rooted, Titanium backup and an APN app (APN Manger Pro or Phone Info by [email protected]). Use Titanium backup to install your APN app as System app. Then open the app and config your phone as Global mode and here you could load your APN for UK.
EDIT: By the way, if you don't mind the locked bootloader with 4.3 stock rom. The Global mode and APN feature are build in.
Take it back. S3 is garbage

Thanks for the advice. I have installed both APN Manager Pro and Titanium Backup Pro and made APN manager pro a system app as you suggested. Initial results show low signal strength and no data. When I try to make a call I get the com.android.phone has stopped error. I will continue to try in a better reception area, also I will try a sim from a different phone company.

I had to factory reset my phone to get out of the com.android.phone error. Reinstalled Titanium Backup pro, Phone Info and APN Manager pro. Inserted my Orange/EE sim card and then edited the APN settings using APN Manager Pro. I still have not gained any data signal even though the reception is improved. My only thoughts now are unrooting the phone and upgrading the software from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2. Thinking that Verizon 4.0.4 is the main problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for the advice, sorry it took me awhile to reply, finding a downloadable version of I535VRBMF1 took a little time. I am now upgraded to 4.1.2, unrooted and unlocked and will follow the link you provided. Many thanks
Edit:
Just read the link you posted in more detail and realised it states 'your Verizon Galaxy S III device if you just received the official Jelly Bean OTA (without having to flash a factory image).
so it may not be appropriate for me, as I used Odin to flash VRBMF1. What do you think?

if you have stock 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 that link should work. but if you've received the 4.3 ota then it's not going to work for you. When I first got my phone (verizon as well) it had 4.1.1 installed. followed the directions on that page and have never looked back. I've flashed around 15 different roms and have never had a problem other than a buggy rom. currently running gummy kitkat rom.
After months of being stuck on my Verizon Moto G with a locked bootloader, I finally managed to obtain freedom via the recent update to the SunShine app from jcase. My phone was having some issues prior to unlocking, and it took me several hours of labor and installing/reinstalling things to finally get TWRP and any ROM going properly. I've worked with Android tablets and custom ROMs before, but this is my first time on a Verizon phone.
I managed to get the N5X ROM installed and running, but I couldn't seem to resolve issues with data/mms, which I presume are APN related; trying to enter new APN settings in that ROM wouldn't save for whatever reason, either. For now, I'm back on an optimized stock 4.4.4 image until I can get that figured out.
My question: Is there any list of custom ROMs that do specifically work with a Verizon CDMA/XT1028 Moto G? Does anyone have a guide to getting these ROMs working on Verizon prepaid service, including any APN adjustments that need to be made? Thanks.
Followup: Still trying to figure this out, but the N5X ROM will give me working data if I enable Data Roaming. I've attempted to update the PRL for Verizon via *228, but the phone status still shows as roaming even though my PRL has been updated, displaying my network as T-CDMA 64. Is this simply an issue with my phone not properly identifying roaming/non-roaming due to the custom ROM? Verizon has the best coverage in my area, so I want to make sure it is connecting to the proper towers (and I'm not ACTUALLY roaming). Thanks.
MY sister called ATt to unlock her phone when she went abroad, they did. Now she no longer has ATT and is with tmobile. Using the Tmobile sim card, she can't seem to upgrade her OS using the firmware update option in settings. How can she go about upgrading? she currently has android 4.1.2 with the NOte 2?
also if i flash aokp on her phone, but she don't like it, then flash back the original 4.1.2 firmware, would i lose the unlock that ATT did for her and she can't use Tmobile anymore?

Carrier unlocking is separate from ROM. If you can install custom recovery (CWM, TWRP), switching from ROM to ROM is as simple as doing a backup of one, wiping the device, and installing another ROM. Always save a back-up to your computer, and it's also a good idea (much easier in the end) to do a batch back-up through Titanium of all the user apps, so you can simply restore them to the new ROM instead of downloading them all over again and losing the app data.
Factory firmware can be obtained from sammmobile.com and are flashable with Odin (google it).
thanks for the help but why can't she update the stock rom from the settings though when she switched to tmobile? are the update locked to the att carrier?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The method Planterz gave you will give her the latest firmware. There's at least a few Lolipop ROMs for the Note 2

Idk the site only has up to stock firmware 4.1.2...which is what she already has on her phone, but on the samsung site, it says they currently have android 4.4.2 for the SGH-I317 phone. i don't know how to get that
