I have rooted my phone with a stock 2.3.3 gingerbread and by going threw teh clock work mod. I would like to a rom and kernel that I can reroot with that will give me stable OC speed. Also what does it mean to UV and how do I know how much I should UV when I OC my phone. Thanks for anyone who can help.

Use NVFlash to get CWM. Once you have that you can flash new ROM's, just don't forget to wipe and format /system first.
UV is under-volting your processor via a kernel. You can do that with Faux's kernel. Although for now, I suggest you stick with stock kernels and read up on what other kernels do before applying them.

Well, on my Inspire I have flashed a custom rom that gives me up to a 1400 score on my Quadcore tests, yet I see other people hitting 2000-2500, what am I doing wrong? I'm using Core Droid v5.0 with a flashed radio that speeds up my download and upload speeds. Do you guys have any advice on how to speed up my Android?
And by the way, yes I do have set CPU and I have the settings on Max (1024000) and on Minimum (245761) I also have set on boot ticked along with profiles to save battery life. Any help is appreciated.
Sincerely,
RootTheNoob
Are you running a kernael that can be overclocked?
How can I tell of it can be overlooked, and I'm pretty sure I am its the default core Droid Rom, or do I have to install the kernel separately as well?

The default CoreDroid kernel isn't overclocked. Also if you have an overlooked kernel, setcpu would let you push past 1ghz.

I think you can use the leedroid kernel with coredroid can't you? If so, I'm using that one. It will overclock to 1.8. I only run at 1.2 though.
see post 957:

So what do I set it to to overclock it?
First you have to floash the kernel. The you use the slider in set cpu to overclock.
How do I flash it?
Sounds like you have some reading to do. Download the kernel to the root of your SD card. Then from ROM manager use CWM to flash rom from SD Card. DO A BACK UP FIRST THOUGH. Read the first few leedroid posts and that will help
No, I know how to flash things but what kernel do I use?
What kernel do I use with Core Droid?
http://leedroid.ftp.rshost.eu/DHD-Kernels/
it is the 2.2.9. Check his post here and it will tell you what you are getting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991848
Try the Inversely ROM...sure its stock based but the kernel can be oc'd to 1.8.... at 1.5 I got over 2600 and at 1.8 I got a 3309 and could do better sub some tweaking...right now though kernel is not a separate flash package.

Um..should be Ingersoll ROM.
Autocorrect fail....
What also helps is be fully charged...do your quad right after fresh boot and stop/shutdown all background processes you can..that's when you get best score.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Edit: hey he just posted his kernel ad a separate package...will make things interesting.
Guys, none of those kernels worked , I had to restore my Android to a previous backup.
Anything I can do?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Coredroid 5 is based off the the leaked GB rom no custom OC kernels are available. 1500 is about what I get with that rom also. If you want higher quadrant scores you need a froyo 2.2 based rom and kernel.

You'll prolly have to download a Rom with an oc kernel and wipe everything before you install it.
May not be what you want to do...but might be the only way to get what speeds you're wanting.
Otherwise...you'll have to wait till there's an oc kernel for the Rom your using.
yelp there isnt Oc of the core with gingerbread.. they do a 2.2 with oc. i havent done those yet cause i do like this gingerbread.. Im just going to keep with this V5.0 MIUI guys have the OC kernal for their gingerbread but they have more steps than i wanna deal with.
whats the best combo for rom and kernal for the g2x.
im about to install the eagleblood 2.3.3bg (since it has the stock camera) and was looking for a kernal so i could oc it. thanks for the help
also whats best 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 or 2.3.5????
For the most part, rom choice is going to come down to personal preference. As for kernels, faux's is pretty popular. Personally, I'm running eagleblood 2.3.3 and stock kernel.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
I am running Triggers 2.3.5 with Fauxs 0.3.5-sv OC to 1.4Ghz and it is awesome. No reboots or issues at all.
There is no kernel made for the ota (2.3.3) roms only 2.2.2 froyo, 2.3.5 cm, eb2.3.5 so basically any rom that is based off the new 2.3.3 ota will not have a oc kernel for it yet LG didn't release source, and best rom kernel combo is definitely cm, and fauxs latest or morfics it a toss up, but honestly the newest nightly runs so nice u wont need one and it has voodoo built in and boot up time is super quick, idk IMO oc kernels are not needed with this phone it is already sick quick I get 3100 quadrant with cm stock kernel, now if u want to save battery life grab a UV kernel
blondie or brunette?? LOL its all up to ur taste for roms and kernels! Im having a great time using the rom and kernel on my sig! But all depends on you and your phone... (some phones dont like oc/uv), the only way to know is to flash, flash flash and flash (watch out not to become a flashaholic...)
Any rooted 2.3.3 ROM, with the Stock Kernel, and LG Camera App.

Right after I wipe my phone and and but it all back up I try to use setcpu to turn it up and it doesn't have the autodetect like it normally does. When I flash a kernel then it has the correct multiple choices. Can anyone tell me why I cant get setcpu to start up right unless I load a different kernel. Irritating. Thanks for you're help in advance

I don't think you can overclock the stock kernal. If you have the stock HTC kernal installed then SetCPU won't autodetect or OC even if you use custom variables from the SD card. In order for it to work properly you have to use a custom kernal.

It's spelled kernEl
But yeah, like he said. You need a custom kernel for Setcpu to work. And even if you do, it only overclocks one core because we don't have true dual core support yet
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
Thank you for setting me straight on that. I was starting to lean that way but I still wasn't sure. I'm still reading all that I can find to understand what kernels are made to run on what roms.

Hi. I want to overclock my i5800 but i don't want to install new kernel. I tried CM7 ROM and I liked more the original one.
So... Have any possibility to overclock without install a new kernel? Or... Install a kernel with ONLY a modification to overclock.
Since you are using CM7, you also have a new kernel.
The new kernel was required to make CM7 work.
If you also have Update 1 for Alpha 6 installed, I believe you can Overclock to 100 MhZ.
Dympy.
No. I'm not using CM7, I using a original ROM from samsung again. CM7 has a lot of fails at the moment.
I rooted my phone, so I can install kernels. But I don't want to change all kernel, only I wanted to overclock the CPU. It is possible? There is a kernel with the only change is the overclock?
First, you should flash new kernel ( recommend g3mod v2.2.1 OC). Then, install setcpu for OC. And link to download g3mod:
Code:
g3mod.com/g3rm/index.php?about=none
Yes, I know that if I install new kernel like g3mod I can overlock, the question is about don't change the original kernel....
Or the possibility to modify the original samsung kernel to ONLY open the possibility to overclock.
as far as my knowledge u wont OC ur process without install the kernel which supports over-clock...
You are saying that you want to drive a car at 400kmph but you don't wanna drive a veyron, and that's impossible
To overclock, you need to make some changes in the kernel, although it is possible to have a kernel with nothing more but overclocking, but why don't you use fugumod or g3mod.
I tried the CM7 ROM. And I don't liked the menus, the aspect, and the power button functions. I like how is from samsung, only I want more speed on CPU
I'm looking for the same solution! I like the original Samsung ROM, but I really want to overlock the CPU! I used Kyrillos' ROM v9.4, but I was not satisfied with it, so I've reinstalled the original ROM.
So pros, please give us a solution!

Flash a oc kernel with odin and keep your stock rom
Sent from my GT-I5800 using xda premium
on my test mobile I have installed the XXJPU stock ROM
flashed the G3 performance 1.9 kernel, works perfect
by default the kernel runs at 800MHz
install setcpu (root required) and you can adjust the cpu
so in two words:
stock ROM with stock kernel -> no cpu adjustment possible
stock ROM with other kernel -> set your cpu in a range you like
How would i got about flashing a new kernel?
im using this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376027
and will flashing a kernel trip the counter?
are all kernels compatible with all roms?
can i use an att kernel on my 727r?
and which kernel would you reccomend? i hear a lot about Da_g?

Flash the Kernel thru CWM and you wont have to worry about the counter.
no Not all Kernels are compatible with all roms, but we only have four right now any way. and one is a CM7 kernel so you only use that with CM7.
the others are Romracers stockish kernel, Da g's OC kernel, and the Stock kernel itself.
just read the kernel OP it will tell you if its for rogers or at&t.
i personallly dont like to recomend roms and kernels....so my advice is flash away and find one that you like
good luck
thanks for the reply... im interested in the oc kernel, have you tried it? and do you think its worth it to oc? is it stable? i know its has a fast processor on stock so i dont know if overclocking pros really outweigh the cons.

i personally LOVE to OC, but Da G's kernel does have its hikups....and i have been using his Kernels since 0.1 and its now on .43 the overclocking is great, it does seem to make the roms run smoother, but i seemed to suffer alot of SOD's while using his kernel. but they are patches that you can run, like the one in TPCs Rom Thread that may fix that.
but not eveyone experiances the same stuff. again i would just try them and you make like them.
the stock kernel is fast though, but once we get a stable OC kernel believe i will be oc'ing to the max trying to melt my phone.....
Just flashed the CM 7 kernel with the Sky Ice Cream ROM. Now my phone won't go past the Samsung boot screen and I can't get it into recovery. NEED HELP PLEASE!!
