Backup Data With Encrypted Tablet - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently installed CWM on my transformer but I noticed it cannot perform backup because when it gets to mounting the /data it fails. I read that this could be because this partition is encrypted so it cannot be backed up. It there anyway to do a full rom backup on an encrypted tablet?

encrypted phone and lost cwm?!

i knew this would be a possibility after encrypting the phone so i made a nandroid beforehand. now, when i tried to make nandroid it just states it cant back up system and errors out with "cant mount /data" . is there a way to do a nandroid within the android OS?

Since the phone boots into CWM and not Android, it cannot read the encrypted data on the phone. I am not aware of any way you can do a nandroid with an encrypted phone. If you are looking to just protect personal data, is encrypting JUST the SDCARD an option that might work for you?

I would think you'd have to keep an unencrypted external SDCARD to back up to though in this case. If the internal is encrypted i doubt that CWM would be able to use it as a backup source
I believe to date the only option is to unencrypt before going into CWM to do your backup. The other option (not a full backup I know) would be to see if an app such as Titanium backup which can also back up system apps will fit your need.
CWM and nandroid are separate from the OS. The /sdcard partition is encrypted by the OS, and as such, only the OS can access it, including for backup purposes.
i didnt encrypt the external sd card as it only gave the option to encrypt new data. i already had lots of media files on it and its not a big deal. im glad i made a nandroid before encrypting the phone! i want the encryption of the OS more so than anything..lol. not that i have much to hide but still..
ill continue using titanium backup for apps i get. thanks all!
update: online nandroid on the market has given nandroids a life again!

[Q] [Help] How to restore Nandroid backup on encrypted phone?

I have Online Nandroid Backup and TWRP 2.8.0.0 installed on my OnePlus One (CM 11S 25R). The phone is encrypted, and I have made daily nandroid backups. Now I need to do a full restore from one of those backups, but when I boot into recovery, TWRP doesn't find the backups and doesn't recognize internal storage (it says 0 MB). So it seems TWRP can't recognize my encrypted partitions. How can I restore my full nandroid backup?
Do I need to do it from a computer somehow? Do I need to wipe something first?
I am a newbie.
Thanks

TWRP autonomously encrypts phone after restoring from backup!

i did a restore last night so did a format /data /cache /system /dalvik /internal memory and did format data type yes command in TWRP. After doing the restore the phone on first boot said it was encrypting the phone!! i hadnt issued any such command so i dont know why it did that on its own. because of this one other nandroid backup on SD card has become corrupted and giving an error 255 when doing a restore. It is using the 'default' TWRP encryption password, whatever that is. I want to recover the corrupted nandroid backup. How can that be done?

backing up/restoring roms in twrp

do i have to unencrypt my device in order to restore/backup and maybe even flash from on it? I've seen in twrp it tells me backups and restores may not work fully due to being encrypted
No, I guess.
The only partition encrypted is your internal storage and twrp can't take a backup of that.
So, you can try by yourself, just remember to take your cautious.
in old devices I always made a backup of this partitions:
Boot
System
Data
Vendor
And restored without problems, just make a factory reset before and maybe flash magisk after restoration

Can I recover encrypted data with a restore?

Hello
I wanted to install Syberia A12 from stock A11 and I got stuck somewhere in the process.
So I'm stuck with the internal storage on the phone (not backed up) that is inaccessible since it's encrypted and the rest of the partitions backed up on the pc using adb backup (a single .ab file).
In theory I should restore the partitions to the phone and I should be able to access everything and boot as it was before, right? However now I have the syberia ROM installed and I'm not rooted anymore (and won't boot).
Can I restore /system like this?
What I care about is access the internal storage, what can I do?
I tried restoring the entire .ab file, however it gets stuck at "restoring efs2" and I should only try to restore /data and /system but I can't select specific partitions being a adb backup with twrp.
All tools I tried to extract the content fails.
