What's a good kernal? :D - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got my transformer a couple days ago already got it romed, I'm looking for a kernal for it. I'm running the latest revolver, and I don't want to over lock it as I am satisfied with the clock speed, but I would like it to be undervolted. Anyone have any any suggestions?

I typically use Clemsyns 22a kernel. The reason I use this one in particular is because the wifi driver in this kernel allows my tablet to properly jump from access point to access point on a wifi mesh network at work, and its fast and stable.
I've noticed that Roach's kernel is a bit snappier than Clemsyn's at times, but with this kernel installed, my tablet doesn't work well at the office because it refuses to seemlessly jump to the closest AP. rather, it will try to hang on to the first one it connected to until the signal dies, then it disconnects and re-connects to the closest one. Its really really really annoying since I run around all day long at the office with my tablet.
Tonight I started using Blades latest OC/UV kernel that he released just this evening. So far its awesome, except voodoo sound module won't load for some reason.
So there you have my thoughts on the three common kernels. I'm liking Blades latest one a lot.... if it works with the wifi at work its my going to be my new daily driver. If not, well, back to clemsyn's 22a kernel.

I'm so used to using android overclock that I'm confused at how to set the voltages and the slots or is this not possible? And thank you very much for the insite about the different kernals.

How do you do that, I thought that just simpley had sliders and a drop down to change goveners? I guess there's more than meets the eye...

[Q] Tiamat Kernel Question

I have been looking for a couple of days, and I can't seem to find my answer anywhere. Sorry if this question has already been asked. Does the Tiamat Kernel come overclock already, or do you need to use an app like SetCPU?
SetCPU is needed
Thank Brenardo.
I really want to root so i can get the USB host, and SD card. I just didn't want the overclock. I was told that Tiamat was overclock from the get go.

If you do not run an overclock program, the stock max is still on the CPU.

even without an OC app running my CPU sometimes runs up to 1504mhz. I've tried every kernel since the first tiamat one. I have a Canadian xoom rooted with one click. I'm using tiamat 1.4.1 and the issue isn't fixed. I've read many others experiencing the same issue. I've tried using setcpu and Droid OC to limit it to 1ghz but it still hits 1504. There both uninstalled now but I'm still having spikes. Just my 2 cents not trying to hyjack your thread. But if anyone has any input as to whats happening I'd appreciate it.
Also my battery life is significantly shorter since rooting. From about 9 hours to 4 now.
Any suggestions ?

How are you seeing its over with no app? I'm not calling you a liar, just trying to get all the facts. In all test we have done, even with the setcpu oc to 1.5/1.5, we actually see the cpu running at 1 ghz after a wakeup.

I'm watching the temp+CPU widget to monitor what's happening. Are you suggesting its giving inaccurate readings? Setcpu at 1ghz would still show random spikes to 1504mhz. I don't have any OC tools installed right now but my widget still shows it hitting 1504 especially under load. I was thinking of returning to stock and rooting manually but it not a huge problem just strange. I was hoping the new kernel would fix it but its still happening. Is there anything I can do besides start from scratch?

Yea setcpu is not 100% yet. Does your widget show both cpus? What we were testing was the second CPU. After you xoom goes to sleep, the second CPU is never set again by setcpu (known bug). So lets say you are running 1.0/1.5. After you xoom goes to sleep you will wake up with cpu 0 at a max of 1.5, but cpu 1 will have a max of 1.0. The info i gave earlier was said wrong. I was actually looking at the wrong line, so you may in fact be correct on the 1.5ghz random jump . Gonna stop talking now, as we are hyjacking someone else's thread .
In theory, you should not need overclocking software, as the max is set at 1ghz on both cpus. But as said above by Bandit504, this may NOT be the case .
Thanks bwcorvus and Bandit504 . So I guess to call it is safe, it would be good idea to use SetCPU, or Droid Overclock and have the maximum set to 1 ghz, to keep the proc from hitting the 1.5 ghz speed. I just hate to ruin the hardware with the overclock, and have to drop another $600 for another xoom.

[Q] Can someone attach the stock Xoom Kernel?

I have a US Wifi Xoom and I recently flashed a AOSP OC Kernel and I'm scared that my Xoom will mess up. Today I unplugged my Xoom and it shut off by itself. I couldn't turn it back on the normal way. I had to hold volume up and power. I have a feeling its kernel related since I flashed it last night. Thanks.
For the US WIFI Xoom, follow the instructions on this thread to return to stock:
USA WIFI 3.1 Stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080963
Pretty straight forward.
Just out of curiosity, which OC kernel did you use? If you're pushing to 1.6GHz, it may not be as stable as others. There are others - 1.5GHz and 1.4GHz that you can try for more stability.
Tiamat's 1.4.2 Kernels:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978013
Keep in mind though, these kernels are tested rigorously before deployment, so unless you decide to mess with the files themselves, you shouldn't inflict any harm on your XOOM with these Kernels.
I did the 1.5 kernel and I just found it weird because I saw a thread today about someone's Xoom not turning on.

Hello,
Is that possible to have an added kernel to theTiamat list: one without any OC?
Battery consumption is a big concern for me...
Sorry for the post in here but I'm still limited to Q&A on XDA.
You don't have to overclock even though you flashed an oc kernal. I have 1.6 oc and I don't oc at all.
Is there an option to turn off overclock or is the kernel supposed to work with SetCPU or another OC app?
If OC isn't set as default then that's a good thing because I don't see any advantage to overclocking the Xoom.
It was a scare and I don't want it to happen again. Is prefer the stock kernel to avoid any problems.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
The OC isnt set by default. It is still set to the default 1GHz.
The kernel just allows you to overclock to 1.6GHz if you wish.
I had another weird reboot yesterday. The last thing I flashed was the kernel.
Might do that sometimes. Might be whatever you were doing. Or the xoom isn't used to the kernal, or just plain don't like it.

Overclock Question

Hey all! I'm new to the TF, but not to Android - been messing around on my Droid X for a long time now. Anyway, I had a question about overclocking - I can't seem to clock my TF beyond 1.2 or so without it rebooting. I'm running Revolver 2.5.1 and Clemsyn v10, since v13 wouldn't let me OC stably at all. Using SetCpu or CpuMaster. I've tried undervolting as well but with the same results. The only reason I ask is because I don't really see anyone else reporting this, so I was wondering if I'm doing something wrong.
Any ideas?
like you said you have to look at the voltages, however not all devices can handle the same cpu speed it can be that your cpu is just not powerfull enough where other TFs can go a lot higher, you just have to be lucky I guess
I actually ended up trying Netformer and Prime together after a fresh nvflash, and on that kernel I can OC to 1.4 with no problems. Think I'll stick with that setup for now.
Thanks for the input, anyway!

Best kernel for revolver?

I am running the latest revolver and am wondering what is the best kernel to use?
I am trying razzle dazzle kernel right now.
pandatest/razzeldazzel/blades all the same kernel just different names
I've tried every kernel available and the only one that is totally smooth is Roach's OC kernel. This is at 1ghz and on the stock Honeycomb launcher, every other kernel would be jittery and not transition smoothly most of the time. It works great on Krakd, Im on Revolver now and it still works just as great. Your Transformer may be different though.

Really? In my testing on razzledazzel it is quite buggy and keeps making my tab random reboot and it just got stuck in a bootloop.
However, i flashed blades and it seems to be working better.

I'm using the stock kernel with Revolver: it's the only kernel that works without random reboots on my B80.
In fact, I'm starting to believe that I won't be able to use any overclock kernel with that tablet.
Too bad, to me that defeats one of the important features of rooting a table and of using a custom rom.
I was better served with my acer iconia in that regard.
Razzle dazzle doesn't s upport ntfs. Why in the world would the dev of razzle dazzle not put ntfs support in this kernel?
i use pandatest 1.5ghz, never had a problem with it in the last month or so since it came out.
I've been using the pandatest 1.2ghz. I get the occasional sleep of death, but it is so rare that I can live with it. Has been extremely stable besides that issue.
Do any of you know if any of the kernels support advanced routing? Several of us are using VPNC widget, and will get occasional drops due to the lack of advanced routing in the kernel.
I would definitively stick with the stock Kernel (i did it and it was very nice and smooth) but if you really wanna OC your transformer here is the one that worked best for me: http://www.gnufabio.com/revolver/dls/Revolver_ClemsynKernel_v21.zip
But again, with revolver the transformer already work faster than Stock rom and wouldnt need so much OC (my opinion)

Strange. I flashed the clemsy kernel (1.8GHz) and my quadrant score was only 5400 on performance Did you set your min and max both at 1.8?
The highest Ive got was 6247 with his kernal on performance mode and had data 2 sd also installed. Both of those tweaks help this tablet. I have also noticed that you may want to restart the tablet once after you flash your device with these tweaks. You can get to these speeds! I love my tablet at this point.
Been on Scotts ROM for a week or so awesome I must say.
I just flashed Clemsyn's latest and have been seeing lower scores in Quadrant below 5000 a few times.
I have the 1.8 OC the overall scores have dropped dramatically.
Guess I'll keep fiddling with things till the scores get back up there.
I think it might be System Tuner Pro bugging something.
Other than benchmarks the tablet still rocks!
Very smooth only 1 FC\reboot so far and that was Quadrant itself .. lol
Haven't had an ANR or reboot since flashing CleanROM-2.3 with Clemsyn's latest.
(except for 1 running Quadrant)
I dont have data2sd just cleanrom 2.3 and the clemsyns kernal. Here is my sunspider scores and my quadrant again

Yeah just keep messing with it, one question. I know a lot of people have ran into the bootloader preventing them to get higher clock speeds. Do you know if you are on the latest bootloader? Also do you know for sure you are running at a 1.8 OC? To check you can use the app Stability test and it should give you a frequency reading at the top.
I have been running ClearROM for about 3 days now and 2 days ago switched to Clemsyns kernal. I definitely think that CleanROM is a very smooth ROM however once I flashed Clemsyn's kernal I had a new meaning to smooth. Absolutely loving my tablet experience now. I went from the Prime to this speed demon, couldnt ask for a better tablet right now.

I could try reloading cl2.3 maybe...

Update!
I had things pretty goofed up on the tabletron model TF700T last nite...I got tired of screwing up so I gave in.
Today I just started over and went straight to JB .18 seeing how slow and crappy Jellybean was for me I re-rooted using hiemanshu's tips.
Anyhoo short story longer: After a new install of CRom 2.3 and Clemsyn's Kernel me is happy!
Quadrant shows 6150 overall with IO at 7267 :cyclops: ... and that's in balanced because I never remember perf mode.
Sooooo we R good here...
Whew!
Glad you got it working man! I really havent seen a difference in performance mode and balanced mode when running the quadrant tests. I dont know if anything is actually running faster since the cpu is overclocked to 1.8 either way. The only way to change it I think is with setCPU or a similar app.

CleanRom includes the stock kernel. FlashCleanROM 2.3 ist, then Clemsyn's kernel. You may lose some of Scott's tweaks but the Clemsyn kernel makes up for it!

Also, System Tuner may not play nice with either ROM or kernel...that's what I heard.
Yeah I know what you mean, the breaking point was on the verge. Although Im sure that with all the fuss it gave you, it was worth it in the end.
What significant (everyday user) changes do you see with CleanRom and the kernel flash, as appose to say, not having it rooted? Browser faster? What do you really see in everyday use?
