Hi, i remember when Android Gingerbread 2.3 was released, the Launcher app was quickly backported to be used on any 1.6+ ROM (such as the ICS Keyboard is now)
Is it possible to do this for the ICS Launcher, too?
Or is there even a Port out and i haven`t seen it?
No one has an idea?

I believe the ICS launcher relies on too many radical framework changes in 4.0 for a backport to 2.3 to be possible. Perhaps it could be done, but you'd probably be better off writing a whole new launcher strictly for 2.3 that mimics the 4.0 launcher. I know one dev tried to do this, but his work remains largely unfinished and isn't nearly as good of a user experience as the actual 4.0 launcher.
The reason the gingerbread launcher was easily back ported is because 2.3 used much of the same old same AOSP framework, so it wasn't too hard getting it to work.

JUst curious if there is a way to get sense on top of CM7? Sorry if this seems lame, but i am not programmer, and it is just a question. I would assume that a rom would have to be built based off of cm7 stable with sense added, is that correct?>
Don't think so, or we would have seen something already.
If you go to android general forum, there are themes for the CM7 theme chooser that mimic some of the elements of sense, without the widget, as well as custom launcher pro home replacements that do the same thing.
If your after the Widgets, try launcher pro plus, those are the closest Widgets I've found to resemble sense Widgets.
There is a adw sense theme in the market. That's the closest you'll get.
Can do a Sense launcher.apk over CM7. Lol have not posted anything so will not let me put link.. just google sense launcher apk it will come up.

looked it up and its just an adw launcher theme. To answer the OP question no this isn't possible because well HTC Sense Ui isn't open source so we can't put it on an aosp rom ourselves. The closest you will get for htc sense and cm7 is skyraider i think because it has something very similar to cyanogenmod settings and the new skyraider 4 will be 2.0 so it will have all the z rom features or you could wait for a gingersene port which isn't looking very possible atm.
Wait for skyraider 4.0.

no, i don't think there are any honeycomb roms for the desire S
if i am correct the honeycomb source code is not out yet (not sure about it though)
I don't think honeycomb will look good on a phone. Just because it's 3.1, doesn't mean it's better than 2.3. It's optimized for tablets. There isn't one phone that has official honeycomb running.

At least none that work as phones any more once it's ported

At least there's a Honeycomb theme for ADW.
I've tried Honeycomb on my original Desire, it was a very early port though so they may have gotten further in development now. As for my experience it looked nice and a lot of it worked but our screens are way too small to use it on a regular basis.
i don't know why u want a honeycomb based rom, maybe google just release it for pad, and android 2.4 will be for both phone and pad (i forget where i read it). and now, the roms for desire s i know are all based on 2.3.3, even not 2.3.4. so i think a honeycomb based rom just can be build from the source code, and waiting for 2.4. [i hope u can understand these words, i'm not good at english.]
the china android forum has the "no sense" +"android 3.0 theme"
is this u want?

So you know how the touchwiz 4 launcher, xperia arc launcher, and various other launchers like the gingerbread launcher can be ported to work on other phones? What if the miui launcher was ported and made to work with our phone? That would mean we can sort of have miui running on any rom we want. So is it possible?

in the market the app is called miui.adw iphone launcher its a paid app but looks like miui rom
Well its close but still isn't the same as actually having the miui launcher. I guess its not possible to port it. But I thought it would since every other launcher has been ported.

I know this is an old thread but i found the closest thing to miui launcher.
MIUI Launcher v3.1 (Based On QQLauncher)
if you google it and cant find a good link pm me and ill give you one
Does anyone know if it is possible to have an HTC launcher on a Samsung device?
Google gives me nothing and I really miss the Sense 3.0 launcher.
I already have those far from perfect skins and themes, but I want the real thing.
I want the carousel effect, the 3D effect, and the floaty lockscreen widgets.
I imagine that it can't really be all that hard, can it.
Can't it just be installed like all the custom launchers?
Or it could be extracted from a HTC ROM and placed in a Galaxy rom instead the Touchwiz launcher.
Anyway, I hope someone can inform me about all this.
I would like to know about this as well.

1. The launcher relies on the HTC Sense framework which refers me to point #2:
2. The HTC Sense framework is proprietary and closed-source .
So it is not possiele to just grab a random HTC sense 3.0/3.5 custom Rom and make it compatible with different hardware?
And if so, how are those custom Roms made in the first place?
If i find the time, i'm gonna experiment with this.

It's not possible even with same hardware , you may even get sued by HTC
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.
Before this phone I had a HTC hd2 and it ran Sense 3.0, doesn't that prove enough?
I don't think we're on the same page.

Wasn't HD2 capable to run both android and wm?
There's a video on YT that presents Incredible S - stock running on Galaxy S.
Oh well , you can do that.....but you cannot make it public.....might get a C&D letter from HTC
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.
Thanks, i'll keep it to myself then.
I'll post the portable results here.

Honeycomb seems like the Red headed step child of Android operating system. It almost seems as the whole point of it was to beta test ICS. And finding stuff like launchers designed for it is hard. And even google doesn't support it that well, I mean where is Chrome?
Google seems more content to pretend that Android went straight from 2.3 to Android 4.0 and there never was a 3. But when your on a tablet that isn't slated for an update, nor has alot of developers like the HTC Flyer, your options are limited, and your pretty much stuck on honeycomb.
I'd really like a nice stock launcher replacement that fits the honeycomb theme, and has customization options. Right now Go Launcher HD is the only real alternative to the stock launcher that I can find. ADW supposedly supports it, but IMO it doesn't seem much better than running a phone launcher on the tab. What else is out there that I'm not seeing?
I know what you mean. Personally, I use espier launcher. It works well. Don't use the hd version, the main launcher has a tablet layout.

cool I'll give it a try. wish you could just view every launcher in the play store with ease, you really gotta dig through a 100 adw and go themes just to find one launcher
