[Q] CM7 radios? - HTC Sensation

Hi everyone! I switched from a sense based rom to a cm7 one and never got the chance to install a different radio. Now from my understanding: not all radios will work best for everyone?
Anywho, I was just wondering what affects that and ultimately what radio I should use? Thanks!

Basically try and see.
The OP mentions 10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01 as that's what they tested against. I'm using 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 and that seems to work about the same as the recommended one for me, I tried both.
Have a browse in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258543 as that's where you'll get most info on CM7.

[Q] cm7 radio?

I flashed cm7 a while back (the only stable version available at the time. not sure if it's still the same), and could get hspda (H symbol). I went back to the stock rom and have recently tried testing out some different radios but can't seem to get hspda. I realize that the symbol isn't exactly a great indicator, but could it be that i'm not using the same radio as the one included in cm7? i'm using the kd1 radio now, which is working okay, but i'd really prefer a better signal either way.
anyone know either 1) what radio is best to use in canada?, or 2) what radio is used in cm7? i've tried the hspda tweak already too. thanks
CM7 does not come with a radio. The radios come with the stock rom and/or via OTA's. Usually the latest radio is going to be the best. Some people will find an older radio may work better. There is a sticky that lists all the radios. Pick the latest for your device and give it a try.

I for sure didn't flash a radio after flashing cm7 though, so there had to have been something that came with it. i'll try out a few different radios to see which I like. do you need to do the hspda tweak every time you flash a new radio?
yeah the H is just a tweak in the CM7 rom.

[Q] Revolution HD recommended radio

I flashed the recommended radio 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 a few days back and my question is my phone still says .00P instead of .00U. Any ideas as to why or what affect that has?
Thanks
Try to reflash it?

Hi,
It makes no difference, and there is no adverse affect.
I just flashed my Sensation with Revolution HD also and I'm curious about the Radio update.
It says 'recommended' but what exactly is different about this radio vs the stock one? I've read here and there that flashing the radio can be pretty dicey and is a large casue of bricked devices.
My phone seems to be operating fine now without the flash. I don't mind flashing it but I'd like to understand the differences first.

Hi,
To quote mike:
He strongly recommends the radio because
--- Using a "non matched" radio could have a negative effect on performance, battery life & signal strength ------ You don't have to flash RIL files for recommended radio. It's already in the ROM ------ You would need S-OFF in order to do it properly
So, the radios are optimized for his roms.

It has no effect, they are exactly the same radio flashed.
The U vs P is a tag to determine which market the phone is for.
for example in Europe you'll generally have "U" here in the US on TMO we generally have "P".

Let me see if I can provide an easy explanation:
In the past there were often radio's specifically tweaked for the market they were releasing into for example a "Europe" and "US" radio.
The radio numbers are simply revision numbers in the evolution of the overall radio.
The more current radios are optimized and the preferred build for most of the newer ROMs because the Radio/IRL is optimized for the 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 sensation builds.
The current radios may not be overly different in their individual changelogs but they are different in how the matching Radio/IRL interacts with the ROM in regards to call quality, power consumption and of course the Kernel. This is why a chef will recommend a radio with a ROM.
I've used various radios on the TMoUS Sensation and the most recent radio is by far the best performer in regards to call quality and power IMO. You've certainly got nothing to lose by upgrading and might gain the extras enabled by the more current ROMs mostly in the way of optimized performance.

The flashing process itself causes more issues than the radios. The best way is to ADB Fastboot flash radio radio.img.
In the past when radio's were matched to geo markets or specific rom builds this was more of an issue. If you follow the guidelines it's actually really easy. Just be sure you S-off before you try anything.

Best radio/RIL for Rogers users?

Just wondering if there are any recommendations on a good radio/RIL file for rogers customers. I am currently using Ordroid 6.0.0 which is a sense 4.0 rom. I was considering flashing the new TMO firmware, but I'm not sure how that would affect me.
Thank you
any experience on the Wind network would also be appreciated
I've used the stock carrier rom.. Google's yakju install and now using cm9... have also tried the last half dozen radios...
There is virtually no difference on rogers that I ever noticed.. signal and bandwidth remain the same no matter which radio or rom I flash... phone performance is another story but in terms of the rogers network, its all fair game imo

ROM with best radio?

So I've noticed my phone's radio works best with stock roms. I was using CM10 until I noticed I kept having terrible signal and data drop. I miss CM lol. Does anyone know of a rom that is stock with the mods/customization as CM?

Have you tried flashing different radios/modems? different ones work better with different ROMs and phones these can be flashed separate of the ROM

I did try that. It had zero effect. One of the radios gave excellent signal, but I still lost data connection.

Your problem is not the radio itself... it is actually the radio interface layer thats causing the issue. Since kernel source is not available for jellybean yet, all aosp roms have a hacked ril and data drops is the result. I think cyanogen has it tweaked pretty good but some folks still have problems with data.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. When JB comes out from Verizon I'm hoping that CM will use it for the d2vzw so I can go back!

I flashed the radio and I'm running AOKP and I'm S-OFF. It flashed perfectly fine. Also, it was said by many to NOT flash the RIL unless you're using a sense based ROM or else it can cause problems.
Just flash the radio and you will be fine.
