[Q] cm7 radio? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed cm7 a while back (the only stable version available at the time. not sure if it's still the same), and could get hspda (H symbol). I went back to the stock rom and have recently tried testing out some different radios but can't seem to get hspda. I realize that the symbol isn't exactly a great indicator, but could it be that i'm not using the same radio as the one included in cm7? i'm using the kd1 radio now, which is working okay, but i'd really prefer a better signal either way.
anyone know either 1) what radio is best to use in canada?, or 2) what radio is used in cm7? i've tried the hspda tweak already too. thanks

CM7 does not come with a radio. The radios come with the stock rom and/or via OTA's. Usually the latest radio is going to be the best. Some people will find an older radio may work better. There is a sticky that lists all the radios. Pick the latest for your device and give it a try.

I for sure didn't flash a radio after flashing cm7 though, so there had to have been something that came with it. i'll try out a few different radios to see which I like. do you need to do the hspda tweak every time you flash a new radio?

yeah the H is just a tweak in the CM7 rom.

best rom + radio combination for you?

I have been using 2.3.5 with the new radio, I have more bars and sometimes I get better speeds but I lose more frequently my 3g and keeps bouncing 3g/1x, my wifi sucks but I don't use it a lot and 4g, I don't have here in my area.
Have the same problem since I moved to 2.3.5 and so have moved back to a rom that uses 2.3.4 (Oxygen 2.1.6).
Is the wifi/3g trouble due to the radio? If yes, anyone knows how I can use a newer rom with an older radio?
Thanks

Flash the rom first then apply the radio.
I have been using the old radio for a day and now I don't have a problem with the wifi and the 3g works the same, like crap, so I am going to keep the old radio with this one 2.3.5 rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205936 , for couples days and see. 3g in Sprint sucks!

TMOUS ROMs

Is there a list of ROMs that are full TMOUS support out of the box?
Yes, they all are. Have you been experiencing problems?
As far as I know, as long as you have super CID you can choose whatever ROM you want. The only problem you might have is a loss of data speeds, since most recommend a particular radio (although I'm on CoreDroid 2.0 with stock TMOUS radio and I've experienced no drop in speeds, even though they recommend getting the latest radio). If you want to ensure no loss in data speeds or are afraid of flashing radios (like me), stick with the ROMs that say TMOUS in the thread title. All the guys who make TMOUS specific ROMs include it either in the thread title or in the first post.
Edit: I shouldn't say the ONLY thing that can happen is a loss of data speeds, because sometimes you lose the ability to do wifi calling or the 4G icon is switched to an H, etc., but most of the devs have addressed these issues and either offer patches or include the fix in the ROM.
So do I have to flash a radio or the radio sticks after a ROM flash? Any recommended ROMs for TMOUS with battery life/performance and Sense? Would like some good aesthetics but don't need any crazy features.
BUMP.......
I wish they would separate the ROMS here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16281566&postcount=2
Just click on every single one. Look at user If hes from USA in the first post.
Your radio will stick after flashing a new ROM. Just make sure you always flash the RIL file matching your radio version.
Edit: you shouldn't have to worry about whether the ROM is tmous based if you flash the appropriate RIL file.

Where do I find RIL/how do I know? Do all devs have diff RILs?
I'm using InsertCoin 2.2.2 with latest radio, you don't need to flash any RIL and it is working good in TMOUS. I didn't see any problems.

Just download the one for tmous. Chefs don't usually state which RIL they have cooked in their roms. Get in the habit of flashing the RIL whenever you switch roms.
Flashed LeeDroid on my wife's phone without updating the radio that Lee really recommended. So it has whatever radio that shipped on it to T-Mobile US and she has had no problem whatsoever.

HTC One S built-in radio

I just flashed my phone with CM10 and it appears that the built in radio isn't there. Is there any extension/file that must be added to the flash? I could use TuneIn for when I have wifi, but most of the time I don't, so the built in radio was useful.
I've read a couple of threads already, but it isn't clear to me what needs to be done. Some say I should add some code, some say it's an extension and some say it's already there. Also if it's of any use, it's a S4 and I'm in Canada with Fido/Rogers.
Thanks

Download the .zip for AOSP ROMs from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998270
Then flash the zip and choose the baseband radio you want. The radios there are the most common. You should be able to flash these radios regardless of the hboot you are using if you are using a CM10 base rom. Its OK to flash these radios even if you are in Canada (im on Bell in Toronto). The key is to try them out and see which one gives you the best reception (the newest ones are likely better). Dont worry, flashing these radios wont effect the underlying radio on your phone, as SENSE based roms (ie the stock version of ROMS on HTC One S use a different radio, and that radio version you would still find if you go onto your bootloader screen). You can only change that radio by downgrading your hboot.

Lol wrong radio he means FM Radio.
Hahah good point. Your only other bet there is to purchase SpiritFM from Google Play. However the Jellybam ROM which is CM10 base also has a free version I think.

[Q] 727r rom / kernel / modem combo for WIND

I have a 727r and I want to use it on wind, and have no idea what combo of rom / kernal / modem to use. what I do know:
The 727r radio has the ability to pick up the signal
The wind network uses HSPA+ - transmit on 1700, receive on 2100
There are modem files out there for these frequencies
Things I don't know
How to make sure a rom / kernel / radio will work with each other (hopefully without needing to spend hours flashing n! combinations)
How to figure out if a modem file will support my device, or the frequencies I need
Things I've tried
the 989 from Tmobile runs on HSPA+, so I tried installing a tmobo rom, kernel, and radio with little success.
Trying to install / flash different rom - kernel - modem combos (most of which results in baseband version:unknown - this means the modem and rom are incompatible right?)
What I'm asking
Is there anyone running a 727r on wind that wouldn't mind sharing their rom / kernel / modem combo?
Has anyone found a Cyanogen-kernel-modem combo that works?
I am NOT asking which is the "best". After spending 4 hours of flashing and praying things will work, I don't care if I get the "worst" rom. I just want a combo that works
WORKING(more or less) COMBOS:
R34P3ReX_T989_Skyrocket_Conversion - Juggernaut_50_0218 - Tmo_SGH-T989_KID_radio
Gingerbread base, gyroscope tilts screen wrong way, a bit buggy, but works
CM10, CM10, T989UVLH1
Works well enough, having Call issues though. Going to try a new radio
Cyanogen always gets terrible battery. Going to look for an optimized version but not a problem for me
CM10, Blaze 4G UVLH5
Calling worked, I could hear caller, but they heard a lot of garbled blarky. Not good
u don't need a specific ROM or kernel at all, all u need to do is try different t radios. try the uvle1 from the t989 aka Hercules subsection, and give the modem someone dumped from the i757m bell version to see if u can catch a signal. I strongly believe the later will work

So.. im using the Tmo Radio.. the latests and you can get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
and as for the ROM i am using Cyanogenmod 10.0 but the T989 version.
works good.. dont forget to wipe everything.. as for the other comment where you just need to flash the radio.. dunno.. i tried that a couple of times and it didnt work.. however.. im about to try it again.. so ill let you know how it goes.. for now though.. just to get it working.. i would do the above..
tip: i initially flashed the UVLH1 radio.. worked great.. great signal.. then i updated the other day to the latest.. and it seems as though my signal is not as strong.. dunno.. but try it out.. you never know..
also.. on initial boot up.. you need to give it a couple of minutes for things to settle.. it should pick up the Wind signal by itself... if it doesnt after 5 mins.. then do a search.. but you shouldnt have a problem..
So.. i can confirm that you CAN install the TMO radio and the ATT Skyrocket CM 10 ROM!!!!!
Infact... it works great!!!
TIP: i can also confirm that the UVLH1 has a stronger signal than the UVLI4 radio which is the latest. not sure why.. but i reverted back to UVLH1
hope this helps!

I tried to install the T989 (Hercules) CM10 version but it kept failing to install
The recovery I'm using is Team Win Recovery, if that matters. I suspect either TWRP is not working or the Kernel is incompatible
What Kernel are you using?

if it was built for t989 specific phones it wont install because of the assert
u dont need a t989 rom anyways, but if you want to try them out make sure the updater script doesnt have the assert function and do the rotation fix
I'm using the i727r (Rogers) running CM 10.1. I'm still on Rogers using the stock radio for now. Is there any consensus as to which radio file to flash for best results?
I know this thread is a little stale, but I figured I would throw in my two cents.
I have an i727r, unlocked. Right now I am running PACman Rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2178402) with the Blaze LB7 radio (4th from the bottom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400). They said I shouldn't be able to run an ICS radio with a JB Rom, but somehow it seems to be working. Note that the radio was on there before flashing PACman.
The kernel showing up in my phone info is the one that came with the PACman Rom, 3.0.72-cyanogenmod. I know this because before flashing PACman over stock, the kernel was 3.0.8.
Having said all that I'm thinking about updating my radio, probably to UVMB1. I'm not sure if I should bother though. I have a Nexus S, which is designed as an AWS phone out of the factory, and when I put my SIM card in that phone, the speedtest results are the same as what I'm getting right now with the LB7 radio on the Skyrocket. So I'm not sure I'd gain much by updating. :/
Can some people in the GTA please chime in to help me.
I am using a Rogers Skyrocket.
SlimBean Rom 4.2.2 Official 7
T989UVMC6 radio/modem
I tried a few other modems and found this one to be the most stable as some did not even allow a call to be made.
This is what I noticed.
Full charge I talked for 20 minutes and lost 10% battery (from full charge)
I get erratic data speeds inside=500-1 and outside I get 3
The problem is the battery drain and signal strength.
What are you using and what is your battery life and signal strength?
Data speeds?
your location?

My carrier is videotron, one of the most difficult carriers to get unlocked phones to work on. Here's what works for me, sim unlocked, rooted. Running cyanogenmod 10.1.0 RC2 with Blaze 4G LF4 radio, nobars battery saver and network booster. I'm still have the same issue as everyone else, baseband unknown and network type unknown. I've been running the stock kernel and I've been running like this for the past couple days, and touch wood, I haven't had any issues. I've tried the 2 Tmo radios, I got no signal what-so-ever, the telus radio kept dropping my connection, meaning, I would have to try and resend text messages several times before it would actually send. Now that I'm using my current setup, as described at the beginning of my post, no problems to date.
I hope my input helps out.

Edited, UVMB1, the NEW Blaze 4G radio from this thread seems to work as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
But like x said, u had issues u just weren't aware of them. Problems don't just APPEAR for no reason.
this threads getting confusing.
ucmc1 and uxuma7 is for rogers and att users on cm10.1
if using unlocked skyrocket for other carriers then you would need compatible jb radio for the new/unlocked carrier for cm10.1 based roms
so for tmo/wind etc you would need UVMB1 for the AWS bands, there are other jb radios for telus, bell but don't know if/how well they work on said carrier.
so if your carrier uses the same frequency's as tmo then UVMB1 seems to be what users are reporting success with.
if your carrier is using same frequency as att/rogers then the ucmc1 or uxuma7 radio is what you need
correct me if im wrong

CyanogenMod 7.2 Stable Inspire 4G Radio

Hi all,
First off sorry if this is in the wrong thread, I've been doing a good bit of reading on XDA but first post (woot). I am using an HTC Inspire 4g that has been rooted and S-OFF. I am a fan of the CodeFireX 4.2.2 SR15 ROM, but need something a little more stable for the next couple months, so I am reverting to the last stable CM 7.2 release (gb) and I was wondering if anyone knew if the latest radio's and RIL's . I have experience flashing ROMs and gapps and a couple radios, but I am curious if any of the newest radios will work (or just the ones listed at the bottom of the cyanogenmod Ace wiki page?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Flash and find out. Radios are location dependant. I'm using last cm nightly and the radio signal is bad but I'm too lazy to flash a different radio to find out.
Rils are for sense roms. Whatever ril comes with the non-sense rom, thats the ril to use.

Thanks for the tip, I wasn't too sure about the RIL's. I had just read that the wrong/incompatible radio being flashed could brick the phone, so I wanted to see if anyone had tried.
