Hi people. I know this has been asked many times already, what is the difference between these two kernels?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Right, the Tiamat kernel is undervolted, allows more cpu clock settings, and has more cpu governors. It also (in my case) super hadoukened my battery life up by a big margin in day to day usage. Compared to stock, I have around double the usage time before the battery hits zero. This alone has made the kernel worth keeping. Plus the team is focusing on HTC devices almost exclusively, and with the source code for the HTC desire s released just a couple of day ago, expect the kernel they make to become much better.
The Cyanogenmod one did have improvements over my stock one, but the margin wasn't that big according to my research.
Personally I'd got with Tiamat, simply because they will make even better kernels soon enough.
Hope this helps!

How about the Virtuous kernel?

What's the best ROM for the Sensation in regards with battery life? And performance too (2nd priority)?
Or what do you use and why?
I know asking this question is against the law on XDA, but my girlfriend gave me her phone and asked me make it better. I have a Droid Razr and have it rooted and such. And have rooted/flashed HD2s, HD7s, G2X, and Droid Bionics, so I am not a complete noob.
LeeDroid has been the most stable ROM Iv;e used with the best battery life and performance.
What specifically doesn't she like about the stock rom? It might be easier to make a suggestion, for example, if she hates sense.
Well she's not tech-savy. All she complains about is battery life. And something with better performance will be a nice surprise.
I just came from a few different sense 3.5 roms to an Optimized Stock rom by maff1989. I was tired of random reboots on the sense 3.5 roms plus my battery life sucked so yesterday I switched. My brother has a completely stock sensation and his battery often outlasted mine so you could probably cross those out. Just my experience.
Have you checked her battery log to see what's draining it the most?
I actually gave my girlfriend my Nexus One, which I flashed Cyan on and installed a purple theme(her favorite color) from the market, showed her how to use the photo album widgets, and such. She's become pretty savy with it now, and she loved it when I gave it to her.
Well you're never going to get "good" battery life on a Sensation, but you can improve it. My wife runs InsertCoin 2.5.5 with Bricked kernel 1.5 r1 beta 1, undervolted by 25k and she doesn't complain.
Right now I'm running Pyramid3D 8.2.1 with Bricked 1.6 beta 2 kernel, undervolted by 50k, stripped sense. This is a fresh flash, but so far, so good.
But like I said, neither of our phones have "good" battery life. If I had to rate, I'd just say "ok" but better than stock.
In my experience, they love MIUI w/ Go Launcher EX.
With the MIUI default launcher I remember she hated it. It was a "too boring" iPhone look. Go Launcher EX fixed that problem, just hook her up with the widgets in these 3 apps and she will love it

My vote goes for MIUI ROM.
Great battery life, bling, simple, looks different then other ROMs , if your gf is not concerned with sense and wants a custom Rom that does what HTC's android don't then it's the best option.
The reason that I wrote this is because in my circle people give me their androids to root them, but they have no idea what rooting is , I have tried several roms on Samsung Galaxy 3,galaxy s, galaxy s2,LG optimus one, hd2, HTC incredible, HTC EVO 3d, and more but generally people have a better opinion about MIUI, than others, and its because of different themes and outlook of MIUI, while other roms are not so different compared to MIUI (SKIN DEEP IS WAT I MEAN).I personally use ARHD 4.1.X. (Sense 3.5) on my sensation.
Well you can get her on a CM7 based rom and she already knows how to use it so that part is easy... Then secondly I would get one of the Anker extended batteries and make sure you go through a few battery cycles and on top of that try undervolting it to like a 1ghz i mean the iphone 4 is only 800mhz lol

I got 48 hours on stock. I get 24 hours on ARHD. Going back to stock then probably selling it.
Check out the ROM in my sig. I think she'll like it.
Very stable, very fast, and great battery life (1.5 - 2 days moderate use, 4+ days standby)
Pyramid 3D or LeeDROiD Sensational. My two favorite hands down, and I've tried them all.
Sent from my HTC Sensation
I've had my sensation for a while now, with numerous tweaks on it and running a custom rom (Android Rev right now, others from time to time).
But last night i picked up my wife's Desire (not HD, original) which is also tweaked and has (I think) LeeDroid on it and was more than a little shocked to find that, if anything, its smoother and more responsive than my Sensation. Swishing thru menus, firing up apps and scrolling thru homescreens was noticably better.
Neither phone is overclocked by the way, but have v6 on them.
now I haven't tried every Sensation rom out there, but Id be amazed to find one that was significantly faster than the one's Iv tried using to date, that also still has Sense. Given the comparative specs of the sensation and desire, even allowing for the higher res screen on the sensation, I was a little bit miffed.
i just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on why there's such a difference?
I've had a Desire, Desire HD and Incredible S - all with custom ROM's, but non of them is as fast as my Sensation.

I have no idea why, but I noticed the same here. My Incredible S FLIES, the sensation... little delays, I've gotten used to it but it still bothers me. I would think it has something to do with being "dual-core" but I've really no idea why!
Are you guys running an ICS ROM?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I'm running ICS with 3.25 FW and has no delay what so ever. Apps open faster, Sense widgets, like weather is faster.

how many apps are installed on each phone? how many were running in the memory at the time of your "test"? i've had htc inspire before and wouldn't compare the two. wait for ics to roll out as well, since it should help optimize things better.

Yep, using InsertCoin. 100% sure ICS is faster than GB. I got longer delays in GB, still get them in ICS but it's not that bad. Just one in a while, here and there opening something will delay a couple seconds.
As for the other guy mentioning the apps and everything, pretty much the same. How many in the memory <- that I didn't test.
My old Samsung Galaxy S on ICS (Onecosmic port) was much more responsive and smoothy than HTC (I've tested four ICS roms), but apps are running faster on HTC. Only drawer, switching screens or doing something at the level of rom user interface are slower.
Doesn't matter I'm using ICS with or without sense. I haven't try GB.
Yeah, im running android rev 6.2.1. Ive run the v6 supercharger script and a few other bits and pieces. I mean the sensation experience is great compared to when it first popped out of the box. But it had been ages since I picked up the Desire and I was really taken aback by how smooth it was.
I'm going to buy a g2x from eBay, as far as development is concerned.. how is it ? What's the progress for cm9/ics/aokp? I've got a LG Optimus T and well its an older device with Armv6 so we need openmax drivers... is this phone slated for official ICS release or is LG being stupid even for high end models? What can I expect with this phone and would anyone recommend this phone.. what are the pros and cons, battery and performance, Overclocking options, undervolting options

Most is stable with CM9/ICS/AOKP, we still need drivers though so that we can get a handle on full hardware acceleration and probably just little things that would help out.
The G2x most likely won't get an ICS update, but the O2x(overseas brother) is slated for Q3 this year. We'll pick apart the update for them and adjust it to work for us.
Since for some reason a good deal of our phones are different, you'll have to find the ROM that works for you. I have a good time with ROMs from the Eaglesblood team, but I've tried a few like Weapon and my phone just doesn't agree. Could be the kernel, undervolting, Over clocking or... well, who knows. Like I said, you have to experiment. Most phones can OC to about 1.5(a lot of kernels are 1.4 these days, I think) I'm not too sure on the thresholds of UV.
Pros? It's a beast. It can handle tasks quickly. Dual Core really helped android out. It's 4G so if you're with a service that provides it and in an area with it... you'll be zoomin'! We've got a selection of ROMs too. 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 4.0... You'll have to search a bit, but I'm sure you'd find something that fits you. The IPS screen is really nice too. You can get a pretty wide viewing angle and the colors are great.
Cons? 4G is kind of a battery killer, if you use something like Juice Defender, or just switch your data off whenever you really don't need it, you should be fine. Some ROMs have the option built in. I can usually get through the day just fine if I'm doing some web browsing, or texting, or a few YouTube vids. With ICS its a little bit harder. The phone's working a bit more to provide, lol. Our RAM is only 512mb so... While it works just fine, 1 gig would have been a bit better. Programs wouldn't have to get killed as much and I think it would ease up on the slowdown.
I hope this helps and that my information is on-point. It's a good phone and with the right after-market "love", it's a fantastic device, in my opinion.
How much are you getting your G2x for?
Yeah that's a LG problem..we need openmax drivers for optimus t phones but doubt will get em... its an Armv6 device

Here's an interesting article some of you guys might enjoy.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...e-and-now-parts-of-it-are-being-added-to-cm9/
News started to trickle out this week about a new Android build called Linaro. Basically, it takes stock Android 4.0.4 and makes it super-fast, and super-awesome(er). In fact, it can boost performance by up to 100 percent over stock. Considering how fast and fluid stock Android 4.0.x already is (especially compared to older versions of the OS), that's quite impressive. Don't take my word for it, though, here's one of the main Linaro guys, Bernhard Rosenkranzer, showing it off on a TI Pandaboard. The Pandaboard features the OMAP 4430 processor (the same one that's in the Droid RAZR), so this is definitely a real-world example of what Linaro is capable of:
As you can see, the Linaro build finishes long before the stock Android build. That's not the best part though: the parts of Linaro that make is so efficient and fast are coming soon to Cyanogenmod 9.
Basically, parts of the Linaro code have been submitted to the CM9 gerrit and are currently awaiting approval. Once commited, these tweaks will be added to the main CM9 code, giving all supported devices a drastic increase in performance.
The good news doesn't end there, though: Galaxy Nexus owners can already take an unofficial CM9 build with the Linaro bits for a whirl. From what we've read, this build is noticeably faster and more fluid right out of the gate. Awesome.
Since the first rule of CM is don't ask for ETAs, we have no idea when we could start seeing builds show up with Linaro code, so for now, we'll all just have to take comfort in knowing that things in the CM9 world are getting ready to get a lot faster.

There's already Linaro'd CM9 build for the GNexus. And Linaro tweaks are soon going to be added to the official CM9 even before Google can implement it. What do the developers here think of Linaro? Will you be willing to Linaro your roms?
Sent from my Samsung Infuse running AOKP.
I have a nexus and I can say that it is simply a placebo... gaming performance decreases and it's hardly noticeable while doing daily tasks - web browsing, video steaming, scrolling, listening to music, etc. My quadrant boosted by 300 - from 2036 to 2336... not great. I don't OC so I can't speak for those who did to augment the effectiveness of Linaro. I'm not saying Linaro isn't effective but your GCC tool chain must be compatible in order to fully implement some "raw" power.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
This thread is pretty much dead but I thought I'd throw in my opinion. Atm, I'm running an unofficial build directly from Linaro and is untouched by any other dev, such as kernel, tweaks, OC etc..
Its not blow your mind amazing compared to past roms, what is amazing though is how much faster it is than stock (which was/is the main sell point of linaro project) My second GNex was stock for about 4 months before I decided to go back to custom roms. Obviously it would be faster/smoother but with my first GNex I spent quite a bit finding the right rom/kernel/tweaks/OC combo to made it this useable. With this build, I have added nothing. Plus from what I understand, its not necessarily a tweak but rather an optimization that uses an updated install method to better integrate the OS and its processes or something like that.
Linaro is definitely on to something here, or Google wouldn't be pulling pieces of Linaro code. Lol

It doubles ONE benchmark which is not a significant part of normal operation, it does NOT "nearly double ICS performance".
god I hate the game of "telephone" where people read one thing, pass it on with minor errors, and before long you have complete and total utter bull****.
In most benchmarks, the Linabug tweaks give no benefit at all. They also give very little benefit on devices where most components are binary vendor blobs.
The Linabug prep in CM has broken piles of stuff over the past two weeks, and if the compiler switch happens it's going to be hell - expect piles of obscure bugs that are next to impossible to track down.
Compiler tweaks are way overrated - I speak as a reformed Gentoo ricer here. I drank the kool-aid for years and then came to my senses.

Sounds like you could use a few.....
I'm about to pass on my beloved Nexus S to my best friend complete with cm 10.1. He asked me if I could optimize the phone so whilst performing good enough, has the best battery life available. He's already going to buy a new battery for it. However I know kernels too can dramatically enhance the runtime of the phone.
So, with that in mind, what is the best, stable, kernel for the Nexus S, that is also compatible with CM 10.1 stable?
I tried a few kernels in the past but always settled for stock cm, even though I understand more battery optimized kernels are out there.
Thanks for reading.
I used Mathkid's Matrix v.25 kernel. I love the voodoo colors and sound.
