tips to phone charging

i made this post because people might be wondering about how to charge their phones.
(i say these things from experience so if different for anyone then let me know)
make it a habit not to charger until its at least 15% or less. i always charged my g1 and left it plugged in even at 100 and after weeks the battery life went to hell. i went through 3 batteries that way.
Also try not to use the phone while its charging. i cant really explain what the hell causes that but i know from experience of two other phones that the phone overheats and messes up the battery. so that means avoid over-night charging. i charge mine either before i go to sleep of first thing when i wake up.
also when ur charging ur phone, DO NOT put it under anything, like between a pillow the bed. ur phone will overheat like to the point of too hot to touch. also from experience.

yeah i never charge phone unless battery is on red and once fully charged unplug

I normally do this to calibrate battery:
1. Charge to 100 % with phone on
2. Unplug and turn off
3. Charge to 100% when off (i normally leave it for 10-15 minutes)
4. Then unplug, turn it on, then after fully booted turn it back off
5. put it back on charger till it fully charges again
6. boot into recovery and wipe battery stats
now use your phone as normally and give it 3-4 full charge cycles till the battery is properly calibrated.

Battery calibration is a app on the market. Check it out! It saves you from having to go into recovery and wiping battery stats

i follow all of this and i usually get around 20 hours of battery life. and ive only calibrated my battery once.

Battery over night?

I'm curious I recalibrated my battery to last longer I usually lost around 7-10 percent over night. Now after calibration I only lost 3% and this is what my consumtion was and was curious is this normal or good. I'm getting 43% cell standby, 40 phone idle, 15% display and 2% OS. I was going to post a pic but is not letting me right now.

With my stock rom, I usually use about 3% over-night when the phone is shut-off.
So, either the stock batteries suck, or "off" doesn't really mean "off." I'm assuming the latter, since we have to pull the darn battery to get a true reset.

3% overnight sounds reasonable. Same here.

Maybe you have fast boot on. Or it sucks up a lot of juice just turning it on

Sure do (enabled by default). I'll switch it off tonight and see if the percentage changes in the morning.

so is fast boot something we want on or off?

I look at fast boot as hiberateing. Take that off and I believe your phone will actually shut down all the way. Fast boot is fast boot. After shutting it off and turning it back on and starts up quicker. Sounds like something that would suck a little bit of battery life over night.

With fastboot disabled and the phone shut off, you should see 0% to maybe 1% battery drain overnight.

Yeah I think its from powering down and back up that's it.

To recalibrate it I just powered up to 100% powerdown, unplug chord reboot into recovery go to advance and go to wipe battery bin. Reboot amd you should have a more accurate battery %. You should 4.2V at 100%

3% is more than reasonable.
I lose like 1% per ~2 hours standby with active 3G data connection, and gmails pushing emails.

Q battery dies when at 5%

My new battery dies when it has 5% left i have been reading to calibrate it. What way should I calibrate the battery software or clockwork mod???? Thanks in advance i am rooted and am using AndroidRevolutionHD. I have used the battery calibration from the market but it seems like my battery is draining in 2% intervals. Is there any other software I could use or can what is your alls recommendation

Calibrate it the old way. Let it completely die and then let it charge for 8-10 hours. Make sure the phone is off while charging. Do that twice and that should calibrate battery. Also look on the market for a battery widget that way you can find out what is draining your battery.

My battery is weird

My battery has been acting funny lately. Some nights I go to bed with the battery at 100% and when I wake up it's still at 100%. Other nights it loses 10-15% (in about 9 hours). I don't have anything running in the background that I'm aware of that would cause such a discrepancy. A couple nights ago the battery lost 10-12% overnight with the phone turned off! Still the phone was apparently awake all night. How is that possible?
I'm too lazy right now to post a screenshot since xda only accepts urls.

The same here after flashing a new custom rom.
After turning on the phone and making this screenshot percentage immediately went down for 10 to 15 %.
You can check things like that pretty good with apps like Battery Monitor Widget.

Did both of you try to recalibrate the battery?

Do a full cycle charge to 100% use it till 10% then wipe battery stats and charge phone to 100 again

Why would you only go down to 10? Might as well drain the battery completely. It's not going to damage anything unless you let it sit around dead for weeks, possibly even months.

It's never good to completely drain a lion battery

Actually, for a proper cell calibration, it is best to drain the battery completely. Many agree and I have never heard a dev say that draining it dead hurts the battery. It is essential for each cell to be empty in order to properly and fully charge a li-ion battery (without this, % figures will be non-calibrated over time). Just like it is of good practice to let the device charge and extra hour or so once the indicator light turns green (to ensure 100% after trickle mode).

Rule 1: Battery calibration does absolutely nothing. Deleting battery stats will never, ever do a single thing to help your phone's battery calibration.
Rule 2: Standby drain is almost always because of partial wakelock or kernel wakelock. Install Betterbatterystats to figure out what the issue is.
Rule 3: If your phone is in a good reception area and still experiences heavy standby drain, charge the phone until it reaches max voltage (4.2 or 4.3), then use it until it shuts off, then go to hboot until it shuts off, then charge to full again, preferably with the phone off. Wait about an hour after you first see the green light to turn it on.
After that, enjoy. If you still have issues, I would suggest backing up everything and attempting an ruu flash with the battery at 100%.

I failed to mention it, but I haven't rooted or installed a custom rom.
I'll try better battery stats to see what I can find out with that.

battery percentage

I don't know if i'm being paranoid or what about my battery %, but whenever my phone reaches around close to 30% it goes down instantly to 19% in like a minute all the time.. Not sure if my phone isn't used to my rom yet but it did that when i flashed sc7 and sc6 (gb).. Has anyone experienced this issue before, or my battery needs to be replaced?

Wipe battery stats?
If that even works on this device, I know it was just placebo on Samsung devices.

Yes you wipe battery stats through custom recovery. But you need to calibrate your battery as well. Each time you switch ROMs, be sure to do this. I was having same issue except mine would hit 30% then instantly drop to 5%. Calibrating the battery and a few setcpu tweaks fixed my insane drainage.

Okay thank you, when i charge it 100% i will wipe battery stats because it seemed to annoy the heck outta me. When it reaches 100% i will wipe battery stats, i don't know why i didn't think of that. But yes i believe my battery needs to be calibrated

Go grab the Battery Calibration app from Google Play, it will alert you when the battery reaches full charge and you can re-calibrate. It'll also show the mAh value when fully charged, something good to observe...

yeah i read your post on battery calibration and download watchdog to see if there is any rogue apps sending data in the background. But for some reason i can't get my battery to 100% its always stuck at 99%. so i just calibrate it at 99 at 4296( (not sure on mv)

DId that, didn't fix the issue.. But its nothing really significant to me because once it reaches 100 it goes down to 99 rather quickly.. but it stays at 99 for awhile unless i use it
edit: well i just reflashed a rom yesterday.. maybe i need to do more calibrations

The full charge (100%) to 99% immediate drop is completely normal with this phone...

yeah i'm completely aware of that.. which isn't a problem for me anyways.. But it should show that it can reach 100% on the percentage when charging but doesn't.. Anyways that isn't an issue anyways its the drainage from 30 down to 19% in an instant.. which i hopefully fixed when the battery is now calibrated thanks to that app

Hmmm I just saw my battery went from 30 down to 20 again.. maybe my battery isn't calibrated enough? i followed the steps in charging it phone off and then calibrating the battery with the app..

Which App? All you need to do is go into CWM and wipe battery stats. Anything else you use will not work right on this phone. After that it needs to be 3 "FULL" battery cycles (fully charged to fully dead, or to 5-10% at least, then fully charged again).

battery calibration app.. I used it to calibrate it but I usually only charge my phone when it reaches under 10% or so..

I have the exact same issue as does my wife. She is on stock ics and has never done anything on her phone whereas I am on svc7 rooted and have done everything anyone ever recommended to eliminate that loss from 30% to 19%. No avail.

How quickly is the discharge from 30-19%? Can you attach a log of wakelocks found? Have you tried another battery?

Well same thing here..switched off the screen and when switched back on whoa battery is at 19% from 30%

Literally from one second to the next it goes down 10% or so. Don't have another battery but my wife has the same thing. Does it after a factory reset as well as after installing 60 apps. Before and after battery calibration. None of it makes any difference.
The only other thing I can think of is that a certain battery percentage kicks in a certain lower clock speed and that that process kicks 10% of the battery. Not likely in my mind, but possible.

After about 3 weeks after making this thread I still get the same thing.. From 30% down to 20% in seconds sometimes it happens at around 40% which is utterly absurd

I have also noticed this problem sometimes, when I do run it that low. My jump is from around 30 to 20 percent. I did wipe stats a couple of days ago after I flashed swiftytrix from ICS leak 1. However, after wipe stats, I didn't discharge to completely dead, but close to it. Does that matter?
