Buy/trade for my D2G band unlock for ATT/TMo? - Droid 2 Global General

I've got an 8/10 D2G unlocked for ATT/TMo. I'm trying to find a TMobile phone that gets 3G. Anyone interested? I tried the marketplace but I figured I'd narrow my demographics.

Bump fo' sho'.

i dont believe g2x has 850mhz UMTS HSPA

I am from Vancouver bc. I am on the Bell network. Which operates from HSPA network only. Rogers is the only provider in Canada to have both gsm/edge and HSPA networks operational.
I bought a g2x, branded tmobile on the front itself and unlocked from a trusted source that I have repeatedly bought phones from. I get a new android cell phone every two months or so. Im familiar with setting up apn and so on.
The bell sim I use cannot find the bell network upon any kind of search. I can only find Wind and Mobilicity networks and they are AWS. I've tried reseating the sim and so forth, all fail. The sim works fine in my unlocked at&t atrix and Telus milestone.
I borrowed a rogers sim and it was able to register on the 2g network only. I entered the rogers 3g apn but it would disconnect when I put it on wcdma mode. Im convinced that either I have a broken umts radio or a faulty unit or tmobile screwed up. Looking for suggestions please and thanks .

imma keep this too about 3 lines if i can....
it has to have 850mhz its stated by the FCC that it does... (google specs)
and if it didnt... tmobile would have a law suit.... please if you will give us this "trusted source"
and when did you get the G2x?
I'm sure Tmo didnt lie, the phone has to pass the FCC in the US for the bands they will use, so Im sure Tmo knows what bands it's capable of. they wouldnt mismark the box.
Sounds like whoever unlocked it didn't do it properly maybe.
interesting...
only reason i was interested in the phone was the fact that it supported UMTS HSPA and AWS. wanted to use it on rogers but also wind down the road.
I got it this afternoon. The source is a guy I know that buys devices from the states and brings them up to sell. I bought several phones from him his year. I only wish this worked. The unlock definitely works or otherwise it wouldn't work on ROGERS' edge network.
when you put in #*#*4636*#*# into the dialer, what options do you have under Phone Information?
any options for WCDMA only?
Are there any *# codes that have been figured out for the G2x that might get you to a "Select Bands" menu? Maybe all you need to do is find a special menu and turn on the bands.

not to call you a liar but even if your "source" ordered the phone friday with the saturday shipping... how the **** did you get it through customs in one day?
just dont understand how you got the G2x unlocked from someone that buys them in the states and had it shipped so fast....................................
i shipped a 3 oz package to Toronto and it took 4 days... FROM WISCONSIN?!?!?!?!?!
Since ATT and Tmo haven't merged yet it could be locked out of the baseband right now too- to be unlocked by a software update after the merger.

if the merger is even accepted... LG would do all the hassle to lock a baseband till a merger happens that might not happen for 10000 reasons

Well that's the point, its still a year out at least. There'd be no reason to have a carrier branded phone unlocked to those bands yet until if/when it does happen.
If so it was a Tmo decision. And itd be a simple radio update in the form of an OTA update to unlock the bands, nothing too major.

very true but most phones/devices that carry dual basebands are not locked to a carrier that i know of
There are lots of variables though. The baseband software may have just not been ready yet. They may want to keep it locked pending approval of the ATT deal, merely was put there are a precaution to not have an outdated device if it does go through.
Too many variables, but it for sure has those bands. Anyone can go to the FCC page and look up the tests.

but i wanna know how this guy got a unlocked G2x from a "source" in the us so fast... faster than anyone of us ordering it.... (mine comes tomorrow when the sun is highest in the sky)
@dgr8one, let me check that out in the dialer.
@nate420, iwish I knew how he got it up so fast. I confirmed with him Sunday morning that I wanted it and he said unlock code probably be ready by Wednesday. Then he texts me today to say it's ready. Lol

damn must have held someone at gun point to get it the 15th lol <---- joking
It's too early to freak out, one person in Canada's having an issue with one G2X. T-Mobile would be insane to advertise the phone as quad-band and allow the media to report it that way if it's not really offered. If they didn't advertise it, but it had the capability, that would be another story. I'm sure a bunch of people are going to try and use it on AT&T over the new few days/weeks. Let's see what happens then.
I sincerely hope that whoever ordered for at&t purposes that it's only my device having issues.
I tried the #*#*4636*#*# but it only shows "mobile network not found ". My sim card is in there. Perhaps they will unlock the basebands somehow on the 20th.........

[Q] WIND Home Connection Problems?

Hey there xdadevs, newbie here. I'll try to keep this as detailed and to the point as possible.
Problem
So I've got a Cincy Bell XT720, and I've gotten it properly SIM unlocked and rooted. I'll go to search for networks, consistently pick up Wind Home, and then attempt to connect to it. I'll select Wind Home, and immediately get a notification that says that "Selected network (WIND Home) unavailable", but it'll continue to try to connect to Wind Home. 1-2 minutes later, I'll get a message saying that "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network".
What I've Done to Try and Fix It
- Configure APN settings properly
- Reseat SIM Card
- Load Cincy Bell Stock 2.1/Dexter Froyo 2.2/XDA Special RC1 ROMs
- Attempt everything mentioned in this thread here: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974375)
What I think the Problem Is
- Radio/ROM config problem? Can't pinpoint it for the life of me.
- I KNOW it's not a hardware incompatibility problem, if that's a starting point. This is the Milestone XT720 and not the Motoroi, fully capable of supporting the HSDPA 1700/2100 bands that WIND Mobile uses for its 3G networks.
Any help I could get would be greatly appreciated. Right now, my only fallback is this horrid Huawei U1250...it works, but that's like saying that ramen noodles "works" in comparison to a banquet burger with fries. Thanks a ton in advance guys.
Lol, I'm using a CB XT720 on WIND as well, pretty cool. But yeah, mine is working without any issues. Go into a WIND store, show them your issue, and they should be able to replace the sim card. As mentioned in another thread, WIND had some issues with certain sim cards so that may be why your having the connection problems. If that doesn't help, then it's probably something to do with the phone itself.

At least I know that the CB XT720 does work for sure...I can get WIND to check it out (the SIM was ordered back in December or so last year) or even get the phone replaced via Moto warranty if needs be (somehow, still warrantied until March next year). Thanks for the help!
my XT720 is from sigapore and i'm using it on WIND without any issues
using Dexter's froyo ROM
make sure you get the BLACK version of the SIM card, the WHITE SIM cards dies very often
i've replaced both of mines already, they died on their own, both on my Nexus S and XT720
other friends that i've on WIND also had the same problem, with other phones, they also had the WHITE SIM card
just show them the problem, they will change the SIM card for you.
oh! but you need to go to the Corporate WIND stores, not the resellers stores

Alright...I'm pretty sure I have the black one (black w/ white trim), but it wouldn't hurt to get a replacement. This one's been in a bricked G1, another G1 that got caught in a torrential thunderstorm (you can tell I don't have good luck with those things), a Huawei U1719, and a Huawei U1250. It's probably just got some age on it by now...flaky with my U1250 anyhow, random (relatively frequent) disconnecting, wouldn't connect the first couple of times, etc. Thanks again, be sure to let you guys know how it goes. =.=
Meh, still got a problem. Tried another SIM, went over to WIND...no such luck. I was told that although the phone may be SIM unlocked and it can see the networks on the 1700/2100 band, the radio's firmware may be locked to prevent a connection (the employee had a similar problem with another phone for Bell). Is there anyone on here who can hook me up with an unlocked radio or a WIND Mobile ROM that could help with this? O-^
Hmmm, strange because I was able to connect to WIND Home on the stock CB 2.1 ROM, Khals MIUI ROM, and Mz's CM6 as well. Perhaps, something is wrong with your baseband? I would try this, if possible, get a friend's sim card (anything but WIND/Mobilicity) and see if you connect to that network whether it be Rogers, Telus, etc. If it can connect, then the phone is able to latch onto the regular GSM frequencies. With regards to an unlock radio or baseband, I'm not sure how thats done but maybe someone else on the forum can help you with that.
For some reason, I'll pop in my Rogers SIM (account was probably deactivated though), and my Moto says:
Emergency calls only
ROGERS
Emergency calls only
Go to check my available networks and..."WIND" is the only one that comes up? No idea as to whether its Home/Away or 2G/3G...just "WIND". Not as if it'll let me connect or anything anyways, same flop as the previous attempts ("Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"). :/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10001234&postcount=34 - AHA! Videotron and WIND use the same bands (1700/2100), and some digging around turned that up. Looks like they've been having problems too. Can anyone help pinpoint their radio for me? It seems like that might just do the trick.
Update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944258#11176044 <- Can someone confirm that this is safe for the XT720? If so, my gut instinct's pretty sure this is exactly what I need...the "freq_F_CN_026-850-2100-signed.zip" one appears to be for Canada, while "freq_F_US_342_107-850-1700-2100-signed.zip" does the frequencies right. O-^
Mann, all I had to do was pop in my sim card and off I went. I think there was a 3G fix around here somewhere, make sure to get someone's "approval" first (one of the more experienced guys) because it may damage your phone. Try this though...
Dial *#*#4636#*#*, go into phone information, and see if anything looks off.
As for frequencies, the country does not matter, the frequencies do...for WIND, you need 1700/2100.
do not use those Defy fixes, it'll probably kill your XT720

Whew, alright. Good thing I asked first, thanks. I still can't get it to work properly...I'm more than likely going to have to ditch this thing and go with a G1 or a Touch Pro 2 if I don't have any better luck with it. Thanks for all the help though guys. :/
Have you flashed a sbf? If so, which one? If not did you buy this phone from Wind or somewhere else? If it is a baseband software problem, then perhaps flashing a different sbf will help (Maybe one of the North American ones-- CBW or brightpoint).

STR_U2_04.1E.1_SIGNED_USASHLSTAB14P2XAPCNCBW039.0R_NACBW_P011_A006_HWp3_1FF (Cincinnati Bell)...that's the only .sbf that I can get RSDLite to recognize for some reason. Attempting to pull up one for the UK or the US Brightpoint for example leaves the File Properties section blank and my start button disabled. I have version 4.5.3, if that's any help. Any hope of a miracle here?
Also, I bought it from a third-party in the US...didn't know what carrier it was with, but after some digging around and checking the "S/W" I found it to be Cincinnati Bell. Ideally I'd be looking for a WIND sbf, but I don't think anyone here's managed to get their hands on one. I'm almost at the point of just trying to take it apart to see if there's something loose in the hardware. Someone else on here was saying that there was a loose cable or somewhat that was preventing their UMTS from working properly (can't find the link). Everyone's saying it should be working just fine, I can't really see any alternative besides the baseband perhaps being flaky.

Yup, that's the Cincinnati Bell sbf. The brightpoint one is essentially identical but unbranded--the only differences are things like default webpage in the browser and preloaded bookmarks, etc. I don't know a lot about basebands, but I do know the only way to change the baseband firmware currently is with sbf. I think yours is fine, though. AllGamer is our resident WIND expert, so if his advice didn't help, I'm afraid I don't have much more to offer.
Actually, if this is a Cincinnaiti Bell phone, maybe it's SIM locked to CBW...? I know both of mine are. Does anyone know how to test that? SIM locks are also black magick to me.

i have a hunch you are still SIM locked, that error message ("Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network") you keep having, kinda of suggest that
an easy way to find out, is to see if anyone have an extra unused Cinncinaty Bell's SIM card, and send it to you, so you can pop it in, and if it doesn't give you any error message, but "R"oaming, then that is a good dead indicator that the phone was not properly unlocked.
also in regards to the stock ROMs
you should have no problem flashing any of the .sbf files
my phone was originally an Asian one, then i flashed it to use the UK ROM, and after that i flashed the Dexter 2.2 to it
So are you saying that its possible that an unlock code can "unlock" the device (pass the unlock code request) and allow it to accept a foreign SIM, but still fail to allow it to connect to the SIM's networks? It'd make perfect sense if Rogers was an affiliated network with Cincinnati Bell (for roaming), since it'd be "mutual ground" between WIND and CBW. And then the SIM wouldn't be able to connect to WIND's exclusive 3G network since it was never on the "allowed" networks as defined by Cincy? =.=
if you are in Toronto, i'll suggest you go to P-mall, any of those cell phone stores there can help you unlock the phone for sure
or you can try your luck online with different ways to unlock the phone
quite sincerely we never really talked much about SIM unlocking of this phone within this forum.
perhaps a DEV might be able to help you figure out how to unlock it for free
because if you go to the malls they might charge you an unlocking fee regardless
although with the chinese places you can argue it didn't work, and they will not charge you for the unlocking

[Q] SGH-I727R on different network

Hey there, my brother recently inheritted someones old Rogers Galaxy S2 LTE. My brother is using MTS which uses the same bands/freqs (same towers in fact) as Rogers and was wanting to use this phone instead of his crappy Nokia.
He threw his SIM card in and got the screen asking for the network unlock key. He went to cellunlocker.net and purchased the unlock key and unlocked the phone.
However with his SIM card in he still doesnt appear to pick up any signal at all. I have an android (GNex) on the same network (MTS) and have never had an issue.
Do I have to flash a non-rogers ROM to get it working? I saw the SKY ICS one and was thinking I might flash that one to try it out. Unfortunately I wont have access to the phone until tomorrow
EDIT: I should have mentioned that his phone is completely stock right now. I have read about "Locked" radios and am wondering if that isnt the cause of our issues. I have heard from other I727 owners who were able to get their phones on MTS

(Q) Is My HTC Inspire Unlocked?

Hey all, sorry for the noob question, I have always unlocked Motorola phones in the past, because at my work, ATT doesnt get signal (My provider), but when I unlocked my Motorola phones, then I would get great signal from T-Mobile, and Cell One.
Well now I got this HTC Inspire, rooted it with the Ace Hack Kit (S-off, and all that), got CM7 on it.
BUT at work, I scan for signal, and all it shows is AT&T (Which doesn't get barely any signal at work). So why doesn't it find T-Mobile or another provider which has signal there?
Also I noticed my dad's iPhone does the same thing, even though his is factory unlocked, it won't use any towers besides AT&T. That really sucks IMO, because I always unlocked them, to get my full potential siginal..
Anyways if anyone could answer this, I'd greatly appreciate it. I could stick in another sim to make sure it's unlocked, but I'd have to buy one on ebay, and then I read all over that the Ace kit unlocks it, so I'm like wtf..

Enter the correct apns for t mobile or flash a ROM that has T-Mobile carrier options.
As for the iPhone I couldn't tell ya
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
If you used Ace Hack Kit, then your phone is probably unlocked. Whose is your carrier?
For the iPhone, when you say factory unlocked, do you mean AT&T unlocked it. I don't know that any iPhones come unlocked from the factory. When AT&T unlocks a phone (or gives you an unlock code) I think it will only use a non-AT&T signal if AT&T isn't available, i.e. in another country.

Thanks. I was afraid of that. Do you know of any reliable way to set APN's on jellybean or KitKat?
nTelos has LTE launched in a few markets, and now they are selling LTE devices in Richmond even though the LTE network isn't up. (Phones are running on 3G). In theory, if the device is unlocked, you should be able to put an nTelos LTE SIM in the device and it should work. (I went by my local Richmond store and got a SIM card for my iPhone 5 and upgraded my wife's S2 to a Moto X). I can switch the SIMs back and forth between the two devices with no issues. I am trying to find someone with an unlocked N5 here in my area to test my theory, but the only person I know who has one is on T Mobile, and we work opposite schedules, so it's almost impossible to meet up.

You might not have to wait as long as you think. nTelos has launched LTE in Bluefield and Bexley in WV. The person who I spoke with also said that the remainder of the network should be launched by EOY 2014. I saw on an investor relations report that the actual claim is 70% POP coverage. The rumor that the rep told me was hopefully June/July for LTE here in Richmond.
I'll keep you posted on the N5!

Once you do meet up, the T-mobile / Unlocked aspect shouldn't really be an issue as the T-mobile device is the same unlocked device that everyone else in North America has. So far, no locked N5's have turned up

I do like the snap dragon 800 though, meaning there is only a requirement to have 2 devices worldwide. I'm pretty sure soon, qualcomm will be able to support more than the maximum 7 on one radio chip and maybe soon we'll start to see one worldwide device per release. That would be great. Until some other country decides to shun global standards and invents their own band

Exactly. Hopefully it will work though because I am interested in getting an N5. I have a nano SIM in my iPhone 5 and my wife has the same in her Moto X, but I do have a SIM adapter so, barring any setbacks, I should know this weekend if it will work.

Well that's great. I just didn't figure we'd get anything soon because even AT&T doesn't have LTE here yet. I'm really hoping what you heard is true though. Thanks for keeping me updated. :good::laugh:

Does anyone here know anything about the regional carrier nTelos and its' CDMA network? I'd love to get the Nexus 5 but I'm not sure it'll work on my carrier.

I do. I am an nTelos dealer and flasher with my own flashing site going live as we speak. It can be done if you have CDMA workshop, otherwise I take mail-ins.
That's awesome! Link to your site? I'll check out when I can. I actually do have CDMA Workshop but no idea how to use it or what all I need to set up on the phone with it. I was afraid to go ahead and buy the phone because I didn't know if I could get it working.
Ok... So I had a friend attempt to try a Sprint variant of the N5 which he got at Best Buy... No dice. Couldn't figure out the carrier settings and it wouldn't make calls either. I tried a Play Store edition yesterday... Also, no dice. Same situation.... I have another friend that works at T Mobile that is going to grab one for me to try. I'm not giving up hope!!! I'm sure there is a way to get it to work, but when you go to network settings, if only allows you to connect to AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T Mobile and 311 660 which I think is Metro PCS. There has to be a way to change the settings to be able to recognize the nTelos SIM card. The N5 supports CDMA Band Classes 0/1/10 and LTE bands 2/4/25, which should cover nTelos.... Not sure if the device is domestically locked to those certain carriers, and the international version would be a better try (I think it is only GSM though), but if someone can brainstorm a work around, I'd love to hear it!
Ok... Here we go... I might have stumbled upon something here on XDA that might help us out. I'm still researching it, but I wanted to post my findings here so that if anyone else s interested in looking into it, you can. You may have already seen this, and someone here commented about CDMA Workshop, and that is involved, so maybe (s)he could chime in and give us a helping hand as well?
The first link I came across was:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2619312
This looks to be a trial and error guide. I MAY be able to get my hand on some of the files that may be needed with a little digging around and some schmoozing with nTelos employees, so we will see what happens.
I posted in that thread to see if it will only operate on CDMA, or if it will switch over to LTE when it goes live (as long as there is a sim card in it). Waiting on a reply, so hopefully we will hear something back soon!

Ok well good deal! I hope you can get it working. Little word of advice though, all the phones are the same. Sprint, Play Store, doesn't matter they're the same.
Ok, well, I have gotten my hands on a Verizon S3 (boo for the locked bootloader), and when I throw my nTelos SIM card it in, it works for talk and text immediately, which isn't surprising, b/c the device is unlocked. You do get the Non-Verizon SIM message in the notification bar though. Well, anyways, I was able to take my jailbroken iPhone 5 and use an APN editor and recover the APN settings for it. I entered those into the S3 and BLAM! It worked! Data kicked over immediately!
Now here's my thought process... The S3 took the SIM for talk and text without issue, while the N5 wouldn't even read for that.... Even though the N5 is supposedly unlocked, could it still be locked down to the bigger providers, and not allow a SIM card from a smaller carrier, such as nTelos? I have heard of rumors of AIO Wireless SIM cards working, but that is an AT&T MVNO. I haven't seen anywhere posted that someone from, say, Alaska Wireless, or Cspire, or Republic Wireless using the N5.
Now, if there's a way to "unlock" the device to work with additional carriers, that would be great, but I'm not sure where to start even looking for any of that information. most comments you read about the N5 state that it is unlocked to use anyone's SIM card, which obviously isn't true. The phone seems like it wants to pre-configure itself with the SIM card. I did see a thread somewhere that people are able to get the N5 to work on Straight Talk on LTE with redoing the APN settings.
I need to get my hands on another N5 and replace the APN settings with the nTelos LTE APN settings and see if that works. If I can get that done, I'll let everyone know!!!
Ok... Here we go again... I'm posting here more of a "think out loud" type of post. I was digging through the Nexus 5 Q&A thread, and I came across something that might help out. *#*#4636#*#* That is supposedly how you get into the settings for an LG device to be able to change it's network type. I'm wondering that since I missed doing that with the last one that I had my hands on, if that might be why it didn't read my SIM card. I went by my local nTelos store last night to see if it worked on all LG devices since they have the F7 on display. I was able to go in and change it while I was playing with the phone. Some of the settings completely borked the reception, which is what I was hoping, but others worked just fine. I'm going to try and go by a local Best Buy later today and try it out on a display model there to see what I come up with. I'll post back here once I figure something else out.
