[Q] HyperSensation T-Mobile Sensation Radio Question - General Questions and Answers

Hi there!
I using HyperSensation 1.0 ROM, which is fantastic. Except my GPS locks instantly to some bogus place (it's completely off, in the ocean for example). I get no satellite locks. I even set my gps.conf to North America (I am in Toronto, ON Canada) using FastFix
I want to try to fix this by getting a new radio, as the dev of HyperSensation said to use the "newest" radio found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178143 but I'm sure we have different kinds of Sensations. And I hope newest radio refers to the last item on the list, ie. "From the 1.72.401.1 RUU:
10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2
md5: 722549b642a1374964798cc82100855e".
My current radio is 10.56.9035.00P_10.14.9035.01_M ..
Is it a good idea to update to 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2? Will it work with my T Mobile Sensation Phone in Canada using an AWS network on Mobilicity?
And would this be the only thing to flash, or do I need to flash the corresponding RUU/RIL? If yes, which one works with my rom and phone?
I really appreciate any help! This GPS (and slow speeds, may I add) is fustrating me.
I've looked around the forums, and haven't found any good problems related to my particular issue.

Well, I couldn't be happier. I went ahead and flash my tmobile to that new Radio and everything is working fantastically!
Im so glad I did this, my gps works! It didnt work on stock, nor coredroid rom, nor hypersensation until i installed this radio
cheers for anyone that may have a similar issue
(my device wouldnt boot up after i installed my new radio driver. but i found out i had to remove the .zip file from the sdcard... that scared me, thought i bricked my phone! )

Can i please have some assistance with a radio please?

Hi everyone. Excellent place here. VERY helpful, and the information flows like wine!
I bought a at&t tilt, i have sim unlocked it, and installed about 4 different roms. I have ended up going back to 1.56.405.5 (radio 1.27.12.11) standar HTC rom version. I like it the best.
However, i am having a hard time figuring out info about the radio. The battery life doesnt seem to be the greatest. And my wifi signal strength is shockingly bad, or so it seems anyway.
Am i able to use a better radio with this rom? Can someone recommend something that will will work without any problems, but will be an actual improvement radio?
I've read the wiki, and have tried searching, but like a lot of other people, it almost overload of info. I would really appreciate it, im going out of town, and having this thing run at bettter performance would really make me happy.
I appreciate any recommendations!
ive been using the niki radio in my signature (downloadable in the wiki) in eastern us and have had no problems. letting everyone know where you are would help in recommending a radio
There are a whole bunch of radios, and there is no clear cut winner. As long as your radio is compatible with your rom, then you gotta test out of all the radios compatible with your rom, which one works the best.

to be honest dude radio performances vary by region; something that works great for me here in mclean, va USA probably might not work great for you. It really is just a lot of experimenting with different radios until you find one that gives you good reception and battery life. I believe that the stock htc rom is wm 6 so any wm6 radio will be compatible with the rom; just need to try, try, and try again to see what works best for you.
If you live around metro dc try the radio in my sig... but wait thats a windows mobile 6.1 radio so don't

My cellular reception is actually really nice! my main issue, is this: i live in a condo, and last night, i went out on my balcony. i was about 15 feet diagonally away from my linksys wrt54GL router, and i wasnt getting ANY wifi. the only thing seperating my phone and router was the wall.
gps signal seems great, with Garmin. Google maps however, i cant get to find a satellite to save my life!
So what everyone is saying is that noone really knows. Im in Miami using T-Mobile and i just installed HardSPL and it worked like a charm. Now i want to install a new rom and theres a bit too much info for me to untagle at this point. So far i gather that some rom's come with different and changable radio versions built in while others work with only 1 version. Now im curious.... how does one install and change these radio settings?
can i just download one and install it?
is there any thread or some sort of complied radio proformances by region? how do these radio versions differ by regional location? i have so many questions....

seems like everyone has got a radio question today but here is my answer to help u:
u need to flash a radio like u flash a rom. when u download a radio it has the customruu.exe w/ it. key is to remember one thing: wm6 roms work w/ wm6 radios and wm6.1 roms work w/ wm6.1 radio only. most roms will work with different radios unless the chef specifically has it matched to one radio only.
for more info plz read kaiser wiki.
p.s. while flashing radio ur phone has to be sync w/ pc
>> I have ended up going back to 1.56.405.5 (radio 1.27.12.11) standar HTC rom version. I like it the best
radios 1.27.xx.xx are the only that will be compatible with WM6.0 ROM. Newer 1.5x.xx.xx and 1.6x.xx.xx radios will cause the following issue:
You are going to lose multimedia sound completely: no ringtones, etc, etc.
In call sound will be likely still functional, but I don't belive that this is something you are looking forward to anyway.
I cannot recommend you the best radio for you ROM, but some would say that : 1.27.12.32 is the one.
I hope it helps.
I'm using dutty's rom WM6.1 WWE Rom. I havent changed the Radio yet. I've been using the ROM for about 2 months now and everything was working fine. But recently my phone won't ring. I can still make and receive calls though. Could the problem be because I haven't changed the Radio?

The answer to your question is: I like turtles. (credit goes to id10terrordfw for that one)
But seriously, the reason I said "I like turtles" is because sometimes that question has no clear answer. If you're not having any issues using the stock radio, then there is no reason to change it. Some developers recommend a particular radio because it has worked for great for them and has been trouble-free in hundreds of hours of their testing. But that doesn't necessarily mean other radios won't work just fine. One thing to keep in mind is many Inspire ROMs are ports from Desire HD ROMs, so a lot of these ROMs will recommend a radio that came out on the DHD, because the developer actually owns that phone and that's the radio he uses. Usually, for any ROM that recommends the latest Desire HD radio version, the latest Inspire radio version will work just fine also. So any ROM that recommends version 09.04.11, version 06.06.30 on the Inspire should work just as good in most, if not all, situations.

The problem there, Henry, is that timeless concept of... The grass is always greener...
That other radio *might* give me 6 out of 5 bars signal strength where I had -1 before, not to mention 10 gazillion kb/s down, and 5 gazillion kb/s up.

Ha ha, that is true. I'm the same way. Myself, I've tried every damn radio/RIL out there multiple times. From a previous "gotta flash a radio per day" addict like me, my story to lee_ was to try to keep someone from going down that same path. If someone starts going down that slippery slope, I tried to warn them.
yea im just going to use the one on the other post with the radios. i was wondering the same thing what the recommended radio did better but answer has already been posted guess i will just try all radio and see which one fits my needs(speeds) lol
i too had many issues flashing a radio to my phone and i use a mac. its easy if u have eng off but i didn't want to do that. i finally downloaded the radio from that link so it was already pkged and all i had to do was to put it on the root of my sd and it worked perfectly

Greetings!!!

Been lurking here for a few weeks, reading, studying, learning, and my eyes are still red...
I just wanted to share my experience so far and get some feedback.
Rooting
I followed the 1 click Ace Hack Kit to the letter, still had an issue where my phone wouldn't boot, screen was on but black, and had to re-install stock from the Ace Kit to correct it. Phone Rooted
Custom Rom
Reviewed all the Inspire Roms and decided on the Revolution HD 6.1.3
Again following everything to the letter, I couldn't get SuperWipe to run, it would abort, but did the full manual wipe (wipe data/factory reset - dalvik cache) in the the boot loader as in the sticky guide for flashing roms, radio's, etc. Was able to install 6.1.3
Q: Is there really any difference between doing it manually and running the SuperWipe Script?
Radio's - Read the Radio Sticky numerous times. Shoot, so far the recommended radio for HD is kicking but however, still have a fundemental question.
Q. I get that it's a gamble, but what sets these radio's apart from what AT&T gives on their stock phone?
I read in the radio sticky they are sort of area specific or vary by location. May or may not be good, try it... I don't get that because I could buy a Inspire in CA, use it in FL, and the stock radio doesn't change. I get that these coders and developers are freaking awesome and above my head, but intrigued none the less.
Doesn't it really come down to tower coverage? Still putting the radio puzzle together after much reading.
Anyway, I wanted to post a BIG THANKS in the Revolution HD Thread but can't as of yet.
I really like the 6.1.3 ROM so far. Some here may hate Sense, but I like the eye candy.
XDA is cool site and still have a lot to learn.
Hey, at least my first post wasn't "How do I boot loop my new phone?"
I'll see you around
Some will say the radio is region specific. I and others find no evidence of that. The Dev will recommend the radio for the matched ROM you choose. That should be your best bet.
Welcome!
I actually don't know if superwipe does anything special or just takes the hassle out of wiping partitions and FDR and cache. in my experience it doesn't make a difference which I do as long as I do one or the other, or both.
As for radios, there are different settings in the build.prop I believe (correct me if i'm wrong) that's set by each version of each radio (and other settings in more places?) but basically it boils down to different settings causing the phone to interact with the network differently. I never had luck with any of the recommended revolution radios so I would always stick to an inspire OTA or update radio and flash the corresponding RIL (radio interface layer, must match the radio you install).
come to think of it now, it might be the RIL that sets the build prop and other settings. now i'm just confused...
The build prop will remain the same regardless of what RIL or radio you use. The devs tweak settings in the build prop to try and squeeze a little more bandwidth but honestly I have never seen a definite increase in speeds by changing these settings. When the inspire was released it did not have the necassary settings to run 4g. They released a radio and new build prop with an update that enabled 4g. People on 3g would not have seen a difference even to this day. This all took place in the froyo days. The build prop has several settings for many aspects of the phone. The build prop only changes when edited by you or the dev.
It's always good to use recommended radios as that will match the RIL in your phone. I have read that new RIL's are backwards compatible as long as you are using a froyo radio on froyo and a gingerbread radio on gingerbread. The only official gingerbread radio released for the inspire is 26.10.04.03 which goes with RIL 2.2.0160. So in my exeperience as long as the RIL is this or higher you might as well just use the official radio. The one recommended for arhd is 26.13.04.19 which is what matches 2.2.0179 but 26.10.04.03 will also work since the RIL is newer than the radio. But if you used 26.13.04.19 on an older RIL like 2.2.0160 you may encounter problems.
As always though, do not report bugs or make any judgements on performance, unless you are using the recommended radio and have not changed the RIL.

I travel alot and can tell you that it really can depend on where you are. One radio and ril works great in alaska but if I go to the lower 48 I normally have to swap them for a different set to get better signal.

Technically as there is only 1 official radio/ril for ATT gingerbread I would be curious to what you use and where. I know you have mentioned radios being location dependant but I can't recall you ever saying what you use.

[Q] Verrus Paybyphone Problem

First time poster, please be gentle.
Encountered an interesting problem but can't seem to figure out how to fix.
Been using various custom ROMS: IC, LeeDroid, ARHD and MIUI on my HTC Sensation.
When I use the app in 3G/4G/H it does not connect to the secured server. But it works fine in Wifi (which is of little use when you are trying to pay for parking at the meter).
What I have found is that IC, LeeDroid and ARHD have this issue, but it works on MIUI and stock. I've even tried different kernals (faux and bricked) to no avail and it seems be ROM related.
Been looking at the build.prop files to see if there is any clue as to why this is, but nothing there.
Currently on the 10.15 Radio and matching RIL.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

[Q] Radio Version & 2.08 Roms

Found a ROM I'm happy with. Energy 2.08 base 3.5 Sense rom.
I'm wondering what the best radio to use in the UK would be? I updated to the 10.58 radio ages ago and wouldn't risk going back to 10.56. Noticed today I'm only getting 3 bars of signal in a strong coverage area. T-Mobile. Use to get constant 5 bars easily so I'm wondering if its just a ROM and radio mismatch?

Hi,
The best radio is the one that works.
If you used to get a better signal with 10.56,then that is the best one for you.
You have to try a few radios before you find the right one,and test it on various ROMS.
You will eventually find the best combination of ROM/radio.
I'm getting confused with RILs too. Do they get applied when flashing a custom ROM? Because I've never updated those since using the gingerbread RUU months ago. I swear this stuff was more straightforward on the old Desire.

The RIL (Radio Interface Library) can be very important, it might just be that the RIL you are using has all the right instructions in it anyway for the radio you are using, I suggest you always flash the correct RIL for the Radio you are using.
