Virtual Walkie Talkie - HTC Inspire 4G

An awesome Older app I found which me and my buddies are using now Called Virtual Walkie Talkie for free on the market place.
It allows you to use a PTT on screen walkie talkie thats being pushed out through a server based VOIP (or something like it) protocol. Its preset with a default public server HOWEVER it allows you to use your phone (or your own server) to host your walkie channels.
We currently have it set up with a Virtual Android box running on one of our servers with a unique port being forwarded so that we have a private voice chat with just people we give addressing to, It works flawlessly.
Anyone who wants to try and develop a WIDGET for this app would be our freaking hero, check it out!

Thank you for mentioning a walkie talkie app, I'm sure some one will like the reference.
It's not up to "anyone" to develop a widget, you should feedback to the app developer.
Seems like this is their website, email them for your requests.

Teamspeak 3 app has free servers to use..
Posted by My HTC Inspire on HONEYSENSE!

Robert, this walkie has free servers also, except I said we created our own private server running from our house, really easy. we actually just switched from using a virtual android box to a java script to host the server and it works much better

This is cool but I use voxer. Its free I think. Just like regular PTT but it saves in threads like text messaging

I find this app very useful when you are -not- using the default server that the app is set to use.
The server we setup is:
CBandFRSradio . VoIP01 . com , port is 8575
Press menu/options, look for the top where it says host, replace what is there with what is typed above, click apply at the bottom, turn the app off and then back on....now you'll be on the new server.
Myself and another fellow are planning on putting connections to live, two-way radios on certain channels to add to some of the fun.
Anyone is welcome to use my server. All I ask is that everyone respect each other. If I get complaints on abusive users or notice them myself, I'll ban the abuser from the server.
If you're on facebook, there is a new group setup that goes into detail about what channels are reserved and for what, plus helps all of the users know who is using the server...look us up and join if you like. Virtual Walkie Talkie - Android is the group name.

gmail for mobile 2.0

Google has launched Gmail for Mobile 2.0, an application for mobile devices that allows users to continue working on their email even with low or no cellular signal at all.
The application supports some basic offline access on phones like the Nokia N95, Sony Ericsson W910i, and BlackBerry Curve. It also allows access multiple Gmail or Google Apps email accounts from the same application.
The company says the entire client was rearchitected to push all the processing to the background, greatly improve the client-side caching scheme and optimize every bottleneck piece of code they could find.
Users can expect an overall performance improvement, new powerful shortcut keys and support for 35 languages.
Users can visit m.google.com/mail from their mobile browser to download the new Gmail for mobile for your phone.
Thanks Mods for putting this at the right place

I just use opera mini 4 to access gmail. they seem to have recently made some changes which make it work fine. No need to a separate java client, I can just leave opera mini running and check gmail along with all my rss feeds and news sites.
Offline capability does sound cool however. Can you just fire it up and work without a signal, or does it need to login on the server first?

FINAL STRAW with WM - why do we not have this app?

Im sick of the most useful apps being developed for the iPhone only.
Take this app for example
http://www.mobiletechaddicts.com/2008/11/16/tv-plus-sky-remote-for-iphone-updated/
This app would be SO useful to UK WM users. The ability to remote record programs on your Sky+ or Sky+HD box would be extremely useful, yet we are being left out in the cold yet again.
This is seriously the last straw, im almost ready to jump ship next gen of phones.
Does anyone know of a WM equivilant?

As you might have seen on the "application" you linked in your post: it is again not a real application but a web service packed in an executable file for iPhones - something the world really does not need since service providers such as TiVo are launching their own stuff:

you want you diamond to be a your sky remote???

you guys dont get it, this isnt a remote control app nor should I be required to buy a slingbox (expensive). The iphone app is simple, you sign in with your sky account username and password, you pull up a complete TV guide and you set recordings from the app. The app communicates with skys servers which then in turn send a signal to your sky box from wherever you are in the world and your box will record that programme.
Now, granted you can do this from the sky.com website, but typically its one of those sites that just doesnt work in Opera or pocket IE.
Tivo Mobile
Tivo Mobile was released last month but don't know if that helps you.
no hes lives in uk. sky+ is like a uk tivo.
theres an app for iphone that lets you sign into you sky account and record a show from you phone
he want an app that lets him sign into his sky+ account with his mobile

Well, I got you already in first place! Even the iPhone Application is nothing but a modified webbrowser control, so, basically, you're loading the Sky+ website into your iPhone - and this is why I always wonder then people talk about 'aplication on the iPhone', mostly these are nothing but web services!
Sky+ is promissing and promoting the MOBILE REMOTE RECORDING on their website and I can't believe that OPERA can't view the site properly! You might wanna contact their technical support in order to get it solved!
Actually mate, it is possible to get one of the java apps for the sony phone to work aparently. Though I havent tried it on the diamond, but i did get it working on my wizard.
So, just download one of the sony ericson java remote record apps and install and try. Have a bit of a google.
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=680256
You got 2 options to try here,
either just browse to the tv guide page on the sky page as normal, at the top it will give you the option for screen reader version. works a treat, bookmark it to save browsing the horrific sky homepage
you can always 1 up your iPhone freinds, grab skyfire browser, full web browsing including flash. just tried will check if it worked when I get home. Downside is skyfire needs good connection i.e wifi or 3g to work well.
either way less clutter on you phone, rather than the mess of utils you get on iPhone.
hope that helps.
That app has been around for time mate it was a java app and i had it on my symbian phone i think you can get it here they cover all versions

It seems like owners of WM have to scour the entire globe to find software for their phones. While iPhone owners simply go to the app store and download them all in one place.

You forget 1 thing:
If you have only 1 single place then this single place will most likely make the decision for you which applications will be available to you and which not - this is (unfortunately) quite common in the Apple Store! I am quite happy that I can different stuff on different places! Often you get your stuff directly from the developer's website where you then find as well support and forums for the particular product.
Now, think about the following: each super market in the world would be Wal-Mart ... go a step further and try to determine what you might find in Wal-Mart if no other stores are around anymore ... go the final step and try to get support from an Wal-Mart employee for the product you bought ... brrrrr!
That java app (which I used to use on an old sony ericsson) does not and will not work on a touch HD with its lack of buttons
Good news http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/tvguide/tvlistingsalternate works in opera.
Bad news - there is no way to login to your account. opera/sky site simply doesnt remember your credentials :-(
why don't you wait for a dev phone like compulab exeda

VPN client for WM6.5 that supports open vpn?

Hi,
As the title suggests, I am looking for a vpn client that supports open VPN so I can tunnel all my traffic through it to get around chinese IP blocking. I've dl'd the one found here but it won't open on wm6.5....anyone get this or any other client working to route web traffic through a vpn service? THANKS!!!
censorship
that title should go like "go through chinese VPN blocking",
because I am in the same situation. I guess other people from other countries too. maybe we start a new thread with this title to discuss about it? Note that I am German, but lived here in Beijing now for 1.5 yrs, always annoyed by the blocking..
I tried everything:
Proxies: I could add proxies in the winmo network config, but it seems either China Mobile blocks proxy connections (is that possible?) or it's winmo's fault. I tried many proxies from various websites and lists..
Windows VPN: Thats what I use on my PC to use Twitter/Facebook/Youtube and blocked news websites. Got my server in Germany running 24/7, and its really fast and stable. On windows mobile: no connection possible. It connects for 5 seconds, but as soon as I try to access internet or mail, it just disconnects. could be the slow EDGE network which is just not supporting constant data tunnels. But I tried with WiFi and it was the same, so.. Mabye I am stupid or my WinMo is. I hope the second, hehe..
Open VPN: The client is 2 years old and I guess thats the problem. Tried it once, but already a while ago. Didn't work as I remember correctly..
Other: There's clients for cisco vpn out there. My university WAS supporting this protocol, and with a cracked client (don't remember the name, just google it), it was possible to connect. At least in Germany. But EGDE/3G/WiFi, all no problem.
So I am in the same situation. I wanna use Twitter, Facebook and maaaany news websites, bought Kinoma Play but CAN'T PLAY, .. so if anyone has an idea here how to route traffic constantly through a different country, please share!
-- EDIT
I just checked the website again and found a VERY recent update. http://ovpnppc.ziggurat29.com/blogs/changelog.php - did you try this? I dont have the time right now, but if I ever do I'll report back...
have you found the resolution of wm already? i am using i8000 omnia II with windows6.5. can't find a vpn working method.
could you get back to me [email protected]
same here... did u guys find any solution for it?
Do exist maybe a commercial app for WM6.5.
Gateprotect Mobile or something else that support .ovpn key.

openvpn service with ziggurat29 client official support
I've been looking for an open-vpn service which can be supported by an open vpn client for wm.
The only thing I found is the combination Witopia service, with ziggurat29 openvpn client
It looks good, but the only drawback I've found, is that the annual payment is the only subscription option, not suitable for testing purposes.
All you have to do is to first configure the service on a PC, then copy the configuration files to a new configuration file to fit the open-vpn client for Windows Mobile
wiki.witopia.net/wiki/Installing_personalVPN-SSL_on_Windows_Mobile
Does anyone know of any similar service like Witopia, which has OFFICIAL support for ziggurat29 openvpn client, but that can be paid quarterly?
Best regards

Mobile-web-based text-messaging client/reader

I have a rather interesting idea, and I thought to post it here. I apologize if there is a more appropriate location for this thread, but, as I am new to XDA-Dev, I hope this will be forgiven, and someone could perhaps correct my mistake and move it or tell me what the proper thread location would be.
Also, as a recently-graduated high school student, I have plenty of free time before I start college, wherein I plan on learning a few programming languages, starting with Java, so I can develop for Android and iOS. This means that here at XDA-Dev, I'll hopefully soon become a very active user.
Now that the formalities are out of the way, I'll move on to my idea.
My phone is a Samsung Replenish(SPH-M580), which is a 600Mhz ARMv6, with 512M of RAM, EV-DO Sprint data network that saves me $10 monthly(Why I own it). The drawback to this phone is that even though it has multi-touch, the screen is a tiny 240*320 pixels. Now, I love Android, due to how open it is, but I have an Android-based phone and an iPod Touch 3rd Generation for my music needs(32GB).
When I'm at home, I don't touch my phone near as often as I do my iPod, and when I'm sitting on the couch browsing the web on my iPod, I don't want to have to keep switching to my phone. So my idea is this(And please, tell me if something has been made): If you can have replacement SMS clients such as Handcent and GO, then it should be possible to have an app on your phone that gives you access to your text messages in a browser-- But not just desktop PC browsers(Such as the access given by WebKey or PDA-net), in other mobile browsers, such as Opera Mobile, mobile Safari, etc.
I know it is possible, given the ease of using something like Handcent SMS, and I'm sure it would need root elevation unless there's a good userspace web server, but the question is, has it been done? If not, I'd like to try to get some help in the community with making it.
Sorry for the horrendously long post, but I think it's a good idea that should be attempted, at least.
As a Sprint user
I am also a Sprint user and I'd like to inform you of Sprint's great deal with Google Voice. (As a new user I can't post links so try Google for "Google Voice")
This effectively gives all Sprint users the ability to text via Web or any device with a Google Voice app at no additional cost.
I doubt that it's optimized for mobile browsers of small devices, but MightyText does work on many browsers. If you're ambitious enough, I'm sure you could write a script to optimize the layout yourself for a small device like an iPod. You might want to try downloading the MightyText app (listed as "Free Texting <-> PC SMS Messaging" on the market for some reason) and then going to "mightytext.net/app" on your iPod and seeing how it looks.
Alright, I tried out MightyText, and in the Mobile Safari app, MightyText looks like a scaled down desktop website. It would be cool if they added a Mobile view as well, but so far, it doesn't seem so.

The mobile site for Google Voice is optimized for Mobile viewing. Also the Google Voice app is much better than MightyText as it integrates very tightly with your phone number.

I don't like the Google Voice app's way of doing things. I don't like that there's not an option to disable notifications from the Google Voice app itself.
