Just curious others opinion on this. I thought once gingerbread source was available that things may pick up some in the form of development.
Looking in the development section, I did not even notice a real ROM that was (a) on the official GB now and (b) had some tweaks done to it.
I'm trying very hard not to be a debbie downer... but what are you guys running? Old GB leak roms like Valhalla, or just plain stock rooted ROMs?
For the stability (even though I still get freezeups when I use anything gps-related: google maps, etc) I'm using the official KJ6 debloated with the KJ1 kernel. It's worked alright, though I miss my EDT tweaks and crt on and off.
Keep in mind the massive lack of devs and that a good working build takes time.
Running KJ6 with honks KJ1 kernel. Missing Valhalla a lot though. Have managed to get the 9 toggles and clock / battery EDT Tweaks working smoothly on KJ6 but still messing to get the lockscreens and power menu to work without FC's. Would love to see a valhalla with voodoo KJ6, but I know Whitehawkx will get to it when he's ready and in the meantime it's forcing me to get educated and figure some of it out myself.
yeah its a shame i hear you there no really well developed roms on this forum i miss the support the vibrant had :'(
I'm running octane, still using ki3 (it works best for me) I stole the wifi files from kj6 and noticed some improvement

Hey XDA!
I need some advice, I've been searching through peoples ROMS with Gingerbread.
Quite frankly. I don't know which ROM is best for the galaxy s 4g. As of now.
I heard KF2 Is more improved than KF1. But does anyone have a specific they use? Like A KF2 GB Rom with Root possibly? Even though I don't even know what I would do with the Root. Ideas are appreciated

KF2 is good for someone which doesn't look for a lot of performance, but likes to stay 'up to date' with the most current s/w.
If you're a performance junkie, stay away from gingerbread and go with KD1, or Froyo.
Aside from that, if this question is about either KF1 or KF2, go with KF2. I personally, along with other members have seen a few bugs fixed in KF2.

I see your point. What I'm looking for is like Very fast performance, not much lag, very small bugs in the rom and like no problems with the APPS that come with it, because when I updated to KF1 gingerbread (not on this forum) i had a problem with the call log, like it wouldn't record my stuff. and then today I reflashed to Krylons KC1 Froyo Stock+Root, and everything on it is good. no problems with any of the preinstalled apps, or call logs or phone or anything of that matter, it was a clean rom that I enjoy, but I would like to update my ROM if anyone has a better one with some of the preferences I mentioned above.
Gingerbread has fixed call logs, and I haven't had any problems with the apps. No bugs so far for me, tbh.
For totally lag free performance I'd stick with KD1 and either flash the ICBINB ROM, which has all the performance tweaks compiled for you, or flash them all on your own.

Ok Im new to this site and this phone...I have a LG G2X obviously and need help on rooting and ROM'ing. I like the vanilla style thats on the phone currently but want to get rid of all the bloatware like the car mode etc. Make it as fast as possible maybe even over clock it. BUT I dont want a buggy root/ROM. any advice?
Sorry about last post I put in wrong section. Im a NOOB be gentle.
The one I'm running is the gingerbread 2.3.4 eagleblood v.1.4. I love it the only catch is that it doesn't come with the Google apps so u have to zip those to ur phone. It totally gets rid of all bloat ware. Haven't had any problems thus far and its fast n smooth. As far as rooting look in development sections for superoneclick all u need to do is install drivers and ur computer should do that automatically when phone is plugged in USB. If you use this rom you also will have to redownload the LG drivers from there website. Sorry I don't have links for you but it can all be found in development.

I vote for EB 1.05. It is not GB, but you retain 100% of phone functionality. Everything works including BT, GPD A2DP, HDMI HD Out. I cant recall if it has Faux UC/OC Kernal, buy I use that in combination and get good battery life. No reboota, no battery pulls, phone just works. Overclock it and I post some great Antutu and Quuadrant scores. Also like Ultimate with same Kernal, but Dev stopped updating, but that Rom just works too.
I vote Ultimate Rom with faux123 kernal. Everything works, looks great..speed with kernal.
Okay, first of all, bloatware can be eliminated without a custom ROM. Just use Titanium Backup. Secondly, overclocking is done via a kernel, not a ROM. Faux's and morfic's are IMO the best; faux if you want performance, morfic if you want battery life.
Once we're past that, the best ROM for features is CM7. If you're concerned about what your phone can do, Cyanogenmod is for you, especially paired with one of the above kernels. Buttons on the notifications menu that let you change system settings, theme chooser support so changing the visual style is much easier (Honeybread is probably the best looking I've ever seen on a phone), lockscreen gestures, the list goes on and on. It's fantastic.
On a completely different tone is Eaglesblood. It's pretty much the exact opposite; as much as could be stripped out has been stripped out. As a result, it runs like a dream. It comes in Froyo and Gingerbread varieties, but most go for FY. After all, 2.2 has better support from LG so the drivers are better and performance is improved. That combined with the streamlining of the system means that Eaglesblood is probably going to be the most efficiently your phone will ever run.
And of course there are others; faux made a ROM, Ultimate is popular, and there are a bunch of others I've never looked at. I've only ever run EB and CM7 for any length of time though, so I'll only comment on those.

So if the OP said "I like the vanilla style thats on the phone currently but want to get rid of all the bloatware like the car mode etc. Make it as fast as possible maybe even over clock it. BUT I dont want a buggy root/ROM. any advice?"
I still say EB 1.05 (Froyo) with Faux Kernal is the best choice. It is vanilla as you get, same boot screens and menus. Get TB and free or remove all bloat. It is also stable and fast. Plus, like I said before, you have 100% phone functionality with no missing parts (imo buggy means stuff don't work -so CM7 is out since A2DP and HDMI HD Out don't work). Add in the fact that EB still has LG Camera and you are golden. Best rom out there IMO.

Trial and error is how I've done it. For some reason eagles blood always makes my phone go crazy...but on my sons it works perfect. Try them all try differant kernals find a combo that makes your phone work.. cm7 and faulks kernal worked for me...but my sons rebooted and heats up...but eBlood makes his run perfect..dunno why but it works...

I think Im gonna wait for CY7 to finish testing...Thank you for the replies.
So I'll be coming into possession of a G2X very soon and I was wondering how the stock Gingerbread OS is performance wise. I was gonna root it and remove bloat but that's it. I'm not sure I wanna get into flashing ROMS like I did with the Galaxy S. So performance wise, not customization wise, is it worth flashing or am I good with stock Gingerbread rooted with bloat removed?
Best off using a stockish rom actually. Stock on the g2x is very stock.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
There is a stock gingerbread which people have good luck with. One of the best roms, Weapon, is stock based. I use CM7 and MIUI cause the features are hard to live without.
You'll be in good company regardless.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
Telnav and qik are the only bloat which have running procs under stock. Runs more stable than froyo did.

I think you'll be happy with it, though I agree with player911, a large driving factor for me to use CM7 is the features.
Not only is it very stable, but there are plenty of fixes and some nice modified versions of stock, like xboarder56's tweaked 1.2.2 build (My father and I have the same phones, he prefers the stability of stock and xboarder56's ROM has been flawless.) that is to fix any problems with the OTA build and nothing more.
If you want stock GB but want 2.3.4 instead of 2.3.3 check out my two new roms.
Regular: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325403
LG Colorized: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334819
They are based on a stock 2.3.4 build from LG. Colorized has colors and icons taken from P990's new 2.3.4 GB rom. The kernel is 2.6.32.9 built by LG for 2.3.4 on our hardware.
Go with custom roms. No reason not to.... they are way better. Especially for battery, customization. Rooting your phone is the only way to make it truly yours and make it perform the best it can. I wanted to stay stock actually, but once I tried a custom rom, there was no going back.... ever

Awesome, thanks for the responses guys. Can always count on the community with a little help
I've heard some real horror stories around here about this phone, but I've never had any real issues with it.
I ran stock GB out of the box, and never had any of the plaguing issues that some users see.
I flashed almost all of the roms and kernels, and found Weapon 2.8 with faux's oc/uv kernel to be to my liking. Everything works, and the phone its quite a bit snappier oc'd at only 1.1GHz.
Flash until you find what you like. There are a lot of combos to try, and a great dev community here.
Just my 2ยข
I have been using Xboarder's stock tweaked for the longest time and have settled on Weapon G2x.
Great stability and features

My Infuse is rooted, to improve the GPS, but stock otherwise and I can't get the stock GB download; stupid device not registered issue.
Anyway been reading a ton of threads and I want a stable ROM to try and seems most people like Zeus or R3velation. Would you recommend R3velation and why or is there some other ROM that might be better, more stable.
I would like to get ICS themes too which I've seen some for the Infuse or an ICS ROM which I haven't seen yet for the Infuse.
Any help appreciated
thanks

very helpful. thank u...
I have yet to try Zeus 6, (I had GPS issues with the last release) but I am currently running Revelation on my phone right now, and LOVE it. The only change I had to make to it was to flash the KL2 modem over the LB3 modem that comes with the rom. For some reason the LB3 modem was EATING my battery life right in front of my eyes.
I have the odd issue where a call will drop when it's ringing when I'm calling out, and other issues where I can't get my bluetooth headset to connect, but they don't occur too often to make me upset.
Out truly is a matter of taste, in my opinion. Zeus will soon be updated to contain some ground breaking stuff. Revelation will not be getting those mods. I am working on a new rom, which I hope to include some of what zeus will have, just not all. Roms like Aeon and Vagabond are also solid choices...maybe even keep an eye out for Revolution. Try them all...then decide.

I recently acquired an sgs4g and previously owned a Vibrant. I understand that the sgs4g is specifc on roms, but can't seem to find one that is 100% working. Can someone explain to me what the common issues are and the history/likelyhood of them being fixed?
I understand the following may or not may not work:
GPS (used to this being wonky, assume there are workarounds and it can be made to work)
Notification Lights (just got mine back with Paranoid, really would miss them)
Video Recorder (I am ok with this as a causality, I never use it)
HotSpot (I love this when traveling, it's part of the core functionality of the phone for me. I could get by with a straight tether though).
I ran Paranoid Android on my Vibrant and loved it. It was the reason I chose to stick with my Galaxy and not upgrade to the newest model.
Thanks
JB is still in alpha stages, especially if you care about stability and location services.
ICS is mostly working. You will probably need to patch your build.prop for GPS unless you decide to use Ultragen.
GB is fully working.
GPS - Problematic as listed above. Not working on JB, works on ICS with build.prop line added, works on GB.
Notification Lights - Phone doesn't have a notification LED. Sorry.
Video Recorder - Not working on JB, works on ICS/GB.
HotSpot - Not working on JB, works on ICS/GB. May work on JB with third party apps like Barnacle.
The JB bugs above are likely to get fixed if we don't annoy the developers too much and provide useful logs when requested. Other bugs may or may not get fixed depending on how annoying the people requesting them happen to be and whether or not the developers want it themselves.
If your goal is just 100% stability, go with Barebones GB. It's a very nice debloated stock and about as stable as you can get.

I am currently just updating the phone with Kies to GB. I may try the debloated Gb first and maybe ICS after. I ran ICS on my Vibrant, it was great. I have a feeling a lot of the things I liked were aesthetic choices and could be duplicated on GB. (Ex: Home screen, newest gmail widget) provided they are supported in GB.
" Notification Lights - Phone doesn't have a notification LED. Sorry."
Er, I meant the keys at the bottom, they light up on missed calls etc.
Thank you for the input, that's exactly what I needed. Any suggestions on GB and ICS roms (names)? I know it's kind of up to the user ultimately and expect opinions to vary.
Thanks
Ah! What you need then is the BLN Control app for BackLight Notifications from the Play Store. And either ICS or GB and a kernel that supports it... most do, just avoid the Proton ICS kernel, as Beastmode doesn't like BLN. Proton may eventually get it, but if that's something on your "want. want. want." list, may as go with a kernel that supports it now.
Alternatively, the NoLED app will give you an on-screen notification that's configurable and works without any kernel modification needed.
GB Roms to try: Barebones. Valhalla. Valhalla Black.
Barebones is very similar to stock. Minimal skinning, everything just works, and it's a slim/sleek ROM as well. The one I generally suggest for people starting out.
Valhalla is the beautifully tweaked ROM that many GB people still love as their daily driver. It's farther off of stock, but does work very well.
Valhalla Black is a further-tweaked Valhalla. Some parts may be more difficult to see, but in general if you like the look, it's great.
For ICS: AOKP, Slim, HebMIUI, Fah-Q CM9.
AOKP is my general fav ICS ROM. It's highly configurable, and I love the laziness of weather on my security screen without needing an additional lock screen.
SlimICS is a slightly-more configurable CyanogenMod that takes less space. What's not to love?
HebMIUI is great if you're a fan of MIUI ROMs. Since it's MIUI, not CM based, you'll need to do a full wipe between installing it and any of the other 3 I suggested, but it's one of the most updated ROMs for our phone.
Fah-Q CM9 is good if you're a fan of straight CyanogenMod, put out by this month's current active development team. The caveat here is that since it uses the Protean kernel (and HebMIUI might as well), there's no BLN control.
Personally, my daily driver with GB wandered between Barebones and Valhalla Black. For ICS, it always came back to AOKP. Right now, I've been running PACman JB for the last week or so as it implements portions of Paranoid Android/AOKP/CyanogenMod, but the lack of GPS in JB continually brings the ICS AOKP siren song back to my ears. We'll see where I fall back, but...
I do hate bln but the reason I disabled bln was because when I fixed the lights issues for the capacitive keys I eliminated any bln crap lol I might work on putting it back this week but not sure for now it doesn't work but then again the kernel fixes deep sleep and battery life so...

I recommed you to Heimdall one click and then put Barebone ROM. It will already give you a debloated rooted stock.
Leave Kies aside, waste of time.
So I finally rooted this phone, and I have ODIN and I also have this HEIMDALL along with an abundant amount of other files Ive been suggested to download yet I cant seem to change the rom still. I am on 2.2.1 any ideas suggestions or guidance would be helpful.
Odin and heimdall drivers may clash. I would uninstall all drivers (&kies) and stick with the heimdall if you're already having issues. Link in post above yours is good place to start.
Pc or Mac?
Find lumin30 or bhuvden one click guides. Follow and you shouldn't have any trouble.
Thanks for all the advice. It's exactly what I was looking for.
I am going to go with AOKP for now. I have been using GB with the heimdall kernel and it's the little things I miss, (like the ICS dialer, lock screen and status bar). I have tried to use alternatives like hololock etc and it just doesn't feel the same.
Cheers! Thanks for being a great community.

I have been running AOKP on both my SGS4G as well as my wife's for 3 weeks now, and my phone is the most stable it has ever been. Very snappy and not a single crash. I did, as the poster references above, tweak my GPS file in my build.prop (it has been working great, much better than stock) and I would also recommend updating the modem on your phone to the LB6 padded modem. If you want an easy way to tweak your GPS, as well as install the AMR-WB codec for HD Voice, install Pimp my Rom from the Play Store. My wife likes it, and she is the first to complain about a slow phone or constant reboots. Was like getting a brand new phone. Team Acid did a bang up job. Great work.
