Hi all,
I just bought the Kenwood KDC-BT50U for my car. I plan to use it with my HTC Desire via Bluetooth, mainly to play my mp3s. It paired and plays mp3s just fine, but it does not show the track names on the device and I cant skip tracks. It also does not sync my contact names from the phonebook, except for the call history.
Did anyone get it to work, and if yes with which firmware? the kenwood website sucks and they do not list the htc desire on their firmware update pages..so I have no idea which one to get...any help would be great!
I've got a BT60U and a Desire and it works all fine - it didnt in the beginning though.
My problems were that there was no adressbook sync and that I got random disconnects while driving.
But at some point it just started working. I remember that it was around when I started rooting (the first hacked 2.2 on the Desire) and then later the first AOSP roms. Dont know what made the deal for me but might be a hint.
At some point I also did a complete reset of the headunit.
I know it is a bit vague but I'm running fine with the BT60U (which got the same BT kit as yours) and my rooted Desire running DeFrost 6.1 (but also with OpenDesire and MIUI, don't know about Sense Roms though)
EDIT: forgot to mention: It is normal that the head unit doesn't show track titles etc but the forward/play/pause keys should be working...
What you can try is that you delete your phone from the BT50U's Bluetooth menu (at least mine got an option saying 'Delete BT Device') and deleting your Kenwood on your phone to start it from scratch again.
Hi.
Which number firmware of bluetooth unit is it?
I had the V 3.11.0 but the last is the V 3.12.0: this add the only forward/play/pause keys but doesn't show the track titles (in fact the A2DP protocol doesn't support this).
To upgrade it: manual, software, firmware (or go here and select "HTC Tattoo").
It's very simple to upgrade but, if you can wait, during this week I'm uploading a video about it: I did it last weekend.
Unfortunately, this last firmware doesn't resolve any problems like doesn't sync contact names from the phonebook neither the call history.
Moreover I can't use the "red button" because it kills the app "phone" so I have to reboot or enter again my PIN code.
I have a Wildfire with Froyo 2.2.1 stock.
Bye.
! !
Ps.: my unit has some problems so I have to bring it at assistance.
It's normal that there is always the "FAV" icon at top right of the display?
Thank you.
The protocol for track names is AVCRP rather than A2DP, but unfortunately the result is the same, the bluetooth stack in Android does not appear to be 1.4, rather 1.3 which doesn't have the feature.
Do you have an import via bluetooth option on your Kenwood. At first my JVC wouldn't sync and I just had to export the cantact list and then use a bluetooth transfer app to transmit it across manually. One day it just started working as mentioned above.
@400ixl: there is an automatic sync of all datas every time that the phone connects to the Kenwood radio but with Android it doesn't work, unfortunately.
I hope there will be an another Bluetooth firmware upgrade.
Thank you.
Bye.
! !
I uploaded a short video about the upgrade.
If you would like see it, I'll write the link.
Bye!
! !
thanks very much

Guys this totally depends on Sync, not the phone. Depending on which version of Sync you're running will affect whether you can do this. The Sync website has a list of phones that work.
I am currently running the latest version of sync gen1 v3.2 .The ATT phones that are listed at Ford site, you can no longer get From ATT,That allow text. I have a Captivate, it is not listed because under bluetooth settings there is no box to enable text.the phones that work have a box to enable text in the bluetooth settings.Like the HTC Phones. So it does matter what phone you have. so my question is there any roms that have text in the blue tooth settings for the captivate?
Interested as well, my gf has a newer Ford and would like to see if my phone would work with it on Ford Sync...
I have an '08 Focus with the latest version on Sync available for it. I have yet to have any phone that will support the text features provided by Sync. But I have had success with apps that will read the texts out loud over the bluetooth. It's also a built in functionality from Froyo itself in the Voice Input and Output settings. Just turn on "Driving Mode".
I have a One X with the 1.85 update and a 2009 F-150 equiped with Ford Sync. The phone connects to bluetooth just fine for calls and media streaming. I am having an issue getting the text function to work. Sync tells me that the phone does not support text which I know is incorrect. The function seems to work great with my wife's iPhone. I think the problem is with the one X. When I go to the Bluetooth menu under settings, then to the advanced settings, and click message access, it gives me the option to select sms or email then the option disappears. It still allows me to check message access which still doesnt work. Any Ideas?
after you update your should delete the phone from the car and sync it back up again...
Did you notice the date of the original post before posting here? This thread was long buried, being 18 months old and all. Please don't dig up old threads like that. It's safe to say in the 18 months since he posted this he's found a solution.

I have a 2013 Honda Accord which has an infotainment system that supports MAP. My phone asks if it wants to give it access, I said yes to all double checked in the settings that all are checked but it still doesn't do anything when someone texts me. It is supposed to Auto Read them and I made sure that setting is on on my car as well. This system should be the same as some Acuras as well.
Some additional info: When I choose select account it says this phone doesn't support this feature.
Same problem here with an aftermarket BT deck.
Has anyone got MAP to work with anything?
Works fine with 2012 BMW
MAP is flawless on my 2012 BMW iDrive system.

Did you do anything special? Or does it just work after connecting it to Bluetooth. I fear this is a Honda issue but that doesn't make much sense since it does support some Android phones that probably had MAP before and the iPhone.
I received a similar prompt asking about the car accessing my calls and another about messages. Accepted both and it just works.
MAP was added to CM 10.2 awhile ago, and it worked the same on my LG Optimus G (basically a Nexus 4).

Doesn't seem to work on my e90 my10 Idrive. It used to work with sense ROM but not with cm 10.2 on my HTC one x

Anyone have any luck getting this to work? I get an envelope icon on my iMid screen, but an error message stating "the connected phone does not support this feature" when it attempt to read out the message. I have a 2014 Accord EX-L.
I'm in the same boat as OP. I've got a 2013 Honda Civic Si and a Nexus 5, and they don't work well together.
From my research on this, I believe this to be a flaw within the Hangouts app, and not a communication problem between the phone and the head unit. After playing around with it for a while (deleting the pairing profiles, repairing the two devices, clearing the system in my car, etc.), I noticed a few things that lead me to this conclusion. After a few connection attempts, the car only successfully read me one message. Afterwards, the text message functionality on my i-MID was selectable, but clicking the enter button wouldn't do anything. Checking my phone, Hangouts was also frozen. The phone was telling me (via ringtone and notification popups) that I was receiving texts, but I couldn't read them until I disabled BT and force closed Hangouts.
Is this a common problem that we are all experiencing? Can any of you confirm or deny these ideas? Also, which messaging app is everyone using (I don't want recommendations, I want to know if this is Hangouts' fault or not)?
Got a 2014 accord same problem. My fix was stopping hangout.. Works fine now I have a nexus 4 running 4.4.4
I think the Honda only uses Sms only and hangout tries to convert it

So did you end up having to use a different SMS app, then? If so, which one worked for you?
I used the stock Sms app that came with the phone. My problem was I saw the text come thru on my accord , but was unable to hear or see the message.... Same problem with my old texts also. I do not use hangout so disabling was not a problem

Ah, well, that's a bit different that the problem I've currently found myself in. For me, the text messaging functionality is permanently disabled in my i-mid display. I'll give getting rid of hangouts a try, though!

I can confirm that my car's Nav system is able to notify me and then read SMS messages from my hangounts app on my N5 without any issues (Toyota). I can also send SMS messags from the car (thru' N5). Works fine, everytime. So, I don't think it is a hangouts issue.

I'm struggling with my Toyota... I have the Non jbl system with Nav. When I click on Bluetooth settings it doesn't give me MAP as an option to check (even tho I granted access to view messages) but I unpaired and repaired a few times and it did give me the map option and it still wouldn't receive my msgs

The message access option should have been there every single time (unlike what you described). I'd suggest deleting the pairing from the phone and the car, and to try again. If the problem persists, try to pair it to another car (Toyota or not) and see if it works with that. If it does, that means it is an issue with your car's system. If it doesn't (and the other car can pair to other phone's with message access properly), it may be an issue with your phone.

Went and messed with my dad's avalon and it worked no problems with his on the first attempt (MAP was there and it asked and was granted access). Going to try to repair one more time with my car before I take it to Toyota.

Kinda glad to hear that it is working ok with another car - but at the same time, I'm not sure how helpful the dealership will be (assuming the problem d1oesn't get resolved by re-pairing) - automotive firmware is basically written in stone - very hard to get them to fix it. They usually keep blaming the phone. Good luck.

Well you were pretty much right. They kept blaming my phone. So annoyed it doesn't work but not the end of the world. Maybe the Nexus 6 has a better shop

I assume you told them that it works with the Avalon - and they stuck with "it is your phone"... UGH! Funny how it works fine with one car, and not with another (even though both cars are made by same manufacturer). Yes, it must be using a different BT stack/hardware/software, but why not use the same one across the board? sheeeeeeeesh
Anyone else having an issue with BT MAP support? Running stock rooted, connected the phone via BT to my 2013 Ford Taurus SHO. The phone asks for permission for the Sync system to access calls, messages, etc. However, when I get texts it almost never shows them on the Sync system. I tested the other day and of 10 texts, only 2 ever came across the system. The same car has no issues with an S4, my old Nexus 5 or several other phones. I checked the BT settings on the OPO and messages is checked. Wondering if this is a CM11S issue because the hardware should definitely support it.
