[ROM Idea]Dual performance mode

Hi guys I am a newbie here,i bought a samsung captivate just 3 days back and i have been loving it so far i will soon be flashing a custom rom.....!
well as i was looking for features of various roms,i felt i need a rom that has a dual performance mode
like i am a huge fan of graphics so i like decorating my phone and i am ready to sacrifice my battery life but it sometime happens that i need to go out for a day or two and my battery dies!
so here is what i am getting at,can we have rom that has say 2 performance mode one with all nice graphics text animations and all high end stuff and other mode where i get decent features and gives me better battery life....
like i should be able to swap between the modes....
i don know if such a thing is even possible but just my 2 cents...

ok, cyanogenmod supports this out of the box, under cyanogenod settings>performance>cpu settings>available governors
but if your using a different rom, just grab a new kernel, such as talon, and get set cpu and then you can change there governors as well, performance mode or on demand or conservative...

i think there are "governors" / apps you can download that will let you set up profiles and save them so you can quick switch between different profiles.

Well. A true governor is kernel dependant. And so any apps that you download to do it without a supporting kernel will just be (close this app) (turn down brightness) that kind of stuff. Where as set CPU and others like that will actually throttle the CPU down. Lower power consumption down internally. Which will actually have a real benefit.

could look into undervolting as well

Use Launchers
I dont know if this may help you for now, but what I do as a simple fix for this is run two different launchers. I keep touchwiz slimmed down with no widgets. I also put toggles and shortcuts on it to turn off multiple things on the phone that I dont want running all the time etc. I normally run ADW setup the way I like it but when I need to go somewhere for extended periods I just use home switcher to switch to TW.
Just something I found that works ok for me.

[Q] Best Kernel for battery life/stability

Hi I am flashing this phone for a friend and I come from the Samsung Captivate so its fairly similar. Only question I have and I hope someone can help without flaming me is which Kernel would you suggest? Im going with Infused 1.5.2 as the rom and I am just curious what pairs with that best? Thanks in advance.

if you're one of those "set it and forget it" types... i was incredibly pleased with the latest release of gtg's infusion 1.5.2 rom/kernel combo. very responsive, smooth and snappy. by far my favorite of all his releases to date for this phone.
if you're the type that likes to do a bit of fiddling for an ultimately rewarding end result, i recommend installing the above mentioned rom with bedwa's OC/UV kernel. i've had nothing but a smooth and stable experience with the two paired together. nothing but good things to say about both of these. having voodoo lagfix alone makes a huge difference. when you combine that with overclocking you get a device that feels much more awake and ready to perform. undervoltage allows you to use less battery power, even though the cpu is running at a higher frequency. really, makes a HUGE difference. cannot express how pleased i am with these two running together.
*i might also add that i've never installed any of the other roms. i have tried the defuse kernel with BLN was introduced(it has since been removed due to buggy issues).

It was for a friend.so set it and forget it was my best option. He instantly noticed a speed improvement in the responsiveness using infusion. Thanks for the help.

cool man. no problem. infused rom makes a world of difference in itself.

I've had the best battery life and stability on Infusion 1.5.0
Overclocked to 1.6, with the right undervolting i lost 3% battery over night (9+ hours)
I tried the 1.8 infusion but "OnDemand" stops working and thats my favorite setting so I went back to 1.5.0

I never had good luck with ondemand, along with most other users. Ondemand always FC'd on me

Best kernel to keep things simple, stable

I'm really very happy with my Nexus S 4G. It's unlocked and rooted, but otherwise pure stock and I really like it that way.
Coming from the Hero it's a pleasure to have a phone that doesn't require heavy modification to make it perform properly. Still, I miss the thrill of flashing ROM's and kernels.
I would like to try a kernel...mainly to simply o/c a bit, but I don't want it to suffer stable and reliable operation. I recall with the Hero, some of the kernels would adversely affect things like the GPS, making it something I couldn't rely on.
So my question: what kernel can I use that is uncapped, but will otherwise be as close to stock as possible?

Kernels are pretty different over here. I don't even know what's closest to stock. They pretty much all have mods in them. Matr1x kernel is pretty popular. You may have to up the voltage for it if you oc to 14xx. 1200 seemed pretty stable to me with default voltages. Currently franco kernel is pretty popular. You can't oc it, but it seems pretty snappy without oc. GLaDOS is also being used a bit but i've read some mixed reviews and for me at least it did seem a little lagging at times for the short period I ran it. I tried Trinity kernel when I first moved over from the hero and it seemed kind of flaky though it's possible that could have been due to the kang I was running. There are a few others out there. Cm7 kernel has a lot of the same mods cooked in though it's likely not the latest updates. You will see a lot of mention of BLN and Voodoo. There are apps on the market for those features and there's an app nstools that has some kernel config settings you can adjust depending on kernel. Mainly just try to read a lot. Most of the roms and kernels haven't given me any major issues beyond the random reboot, which coming from the hero, just means "normal" lol.

Searching the forums would help you more than anything. You will get more info by searching, rather waiting people to reply here. These questions are asked on daily basis. And get the same replies everyday. I don't sound to be mean but seriously there is more info than you can get by starting another thread, only thing is you need to dig the info.

I have tried a few different roms and kernels and for once cm7 runs perfect for me w the supplied kernel. No reboots. Has been stable at 1440 performance for testing but I usually leave it at 1000 on demand.

Yeah they all have this blinking light crap in it now by default which I hate, and the lights turn off and I don't like that either. I want the light on when I'm using the phone and off when I'm not, not the other way around!

I like the bln mod, but I do not like the one that turns off the backlights when using the phone. It's just easier to use the buttons imo and gives a quicker visual reference for everything. Otherwise I mostly am left wondering what is up with all the black space.

I hear you on that, and spent a lot of time reading comments and concerns and problems about the various kernels available. They all seem to pretty much be experimental, with various idiosyncratic problems and lots of bells and whistles such as aforementioned BLN, Voodoo, deep idle, etc.
I thought maybe I was missing something in my search for a kernel that would allow o/c, but not have the stability concerns of a the feature-rich, highly customizable kernels.

I think the Matr1x kernel will be your best option, u can OC it till 1400mhz, what I don't recommend to do, but at 1200/1300mhz its pretty stable.
It also got many options like BLN, BLX, Live OC, touch wake, etc.
But if you don't want them, why you just don't use 'em?
Like just flash the kernel and keep it like it is, and maybe do some overclocking.

franciscofranco's kernel (link) works best for me. It's fast (no lags even without OC, I'm running at stock 1000 MHz), reliable (I've been using it for at least month and I haven't got any random reboots or application hangs) and battery efficient (thanks to deep idle and other tweaks).

Never found a more stable kernel than Pete's. However, I've been on Glados for the last week or so and am seeing excellent battery life with Deep Idle.

personally i think overclock is totally unnecessary , why ? 1 GHz is sufficient to handle all job you require to the phone...

Best thing to do would be compile your own stock kernel with oc.

True again. I love 1100mhz because it gives you a bit more speed with no lagg, and you batterylife is still awesome.

with deep idle OFF, the difference between the two is minimal, idle stats displayed deep idle has been 0

Downloaded and testing peter alfonso's kernel now. Its very minimalistic, no options like deep idle etc, and u can OC it up to 1400mhz. Running 400-1100mhz for a day now and the battery life is just awesome.

Best Kernel for Hellfie Phoenix 2.1

Well I'm in love with Hellfire Phoenix but I'm looking to extend my battery life to the fullest without affecting stability I do gaming and such but not too high graphical as to need a overclock or any of that.
I am currently testing the Trinity kernel that runs at 1100mhz I understand that its undervolted and still overclocked by 100mhz seems nice yes but battery still drains rather fast I mainly use it for internet browsing and that consumes a lot of battery.
I've been reading on how wifi calling pasively drains your battery just for it being there so I backed it up and uninstalled it with titanium backup.
I might say some dumb stuff or unreasonable or stuff like that .I am inexperienced at this I've been at this stuff for about 3-4 days since I realized G2X stock 2.3.3 is **** lol.

Im running the Trinity ELP kernel and it works fine for me. Battery is pretty good, I just realized I can't play games like PvZ, I don't know if its a kernel problem or an app problem because I flashed T15 and it still didn't work.

Just make a backup and try them all, there's really only a few.
also, don't be afraid to not use a custom kernel. in some situations your better off without one

[Q] Best ics battery life rom/kernel?.

Hi, ive been searching trough isc roms and kernels trying to find one with a good battery life, but there isnt, they all talk about customizations, power, performance but not about battery life. I flashed CM9 with its own kernel and its nice, but it got crashed some times when i was websurffing and the battery life gets like 13hrs of standby and 3 hrs of usage (wifi, network, display), so i went back to GB stock. im not sure if its an isc problem or just becuase of CM. Well id like to know if there´s an ICS rom or kernel that gives me atleast 24hrs of standby and a good stability.
And what about the CM9 crashes?, its isc´s bugs?
Im wating for a JB release, as it seems to be bettter than ICS. Thanks for reading , and sorry for this questions, is just that xda is the best place to find information as im a newbie in android c:

try the hefe kernal or one of the newer ones posted by team Fahq. Might help with stability.
Then flash the battery mod posted by itzik2sh. That made a very noticeable difference for me.

I was running ultragen with hefe kernel+itzik2sh's battery mod and was getting very very good battery life and the phone was stable.

Also changing the governor to SmartAssV2 can result in great battery life, even if my phone is clocked to 1.2 or 1.4 GHz.
But if you do not understand overclocking, do not try it, I read a couple articles before I actually OC'ed my phone.
If you want performance and battery life pertaining to kernel, you can try Hefe or Lightning Zap.
Other than that, you can try tweaks around OUR forums and see the results. You can also install Pimp My Rom to install tweaks.

, dont worry about overclock, i know all the risks and even CM9 from team acid gives you that option. But just let me know man, what is a governor?, never heard about that, and how much time you got of battery with that?

There is no answer to that, because everyone uses the phone differently. Obviously if I say I get 2 days out of my phone and someone else gets 2 hours, maybe I only sent 15 txt messages and they watched HD Youtube off data for 2 hours while their GPS was on.

Wifi and GPS use a lot of battery when always leave on. Turn it off when u don't need it. Hefe kernel seems to help with the battery drainage issue.

Dont get mad man. About the search, ive done that, but here i can find a better and smaller answer. And about the battery,as you suere read in my first post upside i was saying in standby and a light use, and how much it lasted for me (a very short timefor a new battery). Anyways, thanks for the link .

I'm currently on UltraGen with Hefe-KOD kernel. Great battery life with good performance. Attached screen shots is with lite usage. Came from AOKP Milestone 6 latest build. Great battery life as well. Will probably go back to AOKP in a few days.

Thats a really great battery life . I have another question, that battery life is because Hefe Kernel or Ultragen?

That battery life is because he doesn't use his phone.

Ive noticed of that, but even when I was on CM9 i got only 15 hrs on standby, either way, what thing really provides that battery life?, Ultragen or Hefe kernel?
