My phone speaker only sounds bad in a phone call. It started when i used the return to stock directions. Im rooted now and have the e3 with cw recovery on froyo. Has anyone else experienced this with their phone for any reason. I didnt want to start messing with the phone until i and find if someone else had this problem. Also is there a way to go back to stock recovery. The e3 broke my apn, i get no 3 or 4g just e. The back to stock still kept the e3 recovery. Yhanks for any help.

Try flashing the KK2 modem found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350122
That should clear the bad quality.
Also the APN you can manually restore them:
new att 4g apn
Name: AT&T HSPA+
APN: phone
skip to mms area, no need for username and password
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Proxy MMS: wireless.cingular.com
Port MMS: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
I took them from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152754
The info here is not mine, thats why i posted the original threads
ALSO: IM NOT the on AT&T so cant tell if those APN work, just trying to help
I tried that and other modems but still bad sound. I cant adjust my data setting. Or should i through file root explorer? My data is still at e and slow. But thanks so far.

Call AT&T and ask them for the specific APN for your data plan bro, sorry i coudnt help anymore as i previously said im not on AT&T so i dont know the current working APN for AT&T
Hmm and regarding to the voice quality try another rom then, just dont forget to backup your data (with titanium backup or similar) IF that doesnt correct it then go for the warranty lol get a new Infuse, the speaker may me damaged.
This is a bad sign! The speaker could be dieng. My captivate's speaker went out like this and now this is how i ended up on the infuse
I had this same problem on my infuse. I tried flashing roms, returned to stock. sometimes the static noise would go away for awhile but always came back. It was a very harsh, loud, crackling white noise sound. playing music was fine but as soon as i started dialing a phone number the noise was back. Eventually i decided it was a hardware problem so i returned the phone to stock and went to a warranty center where. I told them i didn't need to keep any data, so they just replaced my phone.

I am also having this popping/crackle issue and i remember first getting it after I flashed a ROM for the first time(gtg's infused v2) i haven't ever been on stock since so idk if it's just rom problems.
Sent from my nice little phone... or should I say huge gigantic beast
I have been trying get it back to stock to see if that will fix it. I know it was from a rom of some software. Is there a speaker or a sound file that can be edited to mabey fix it? How about getting back to stock? Everytime i try there is always remaining files. I wonder if thats it?
Sounds Like you guys are having hardware issues. I tend to get it a lot mine is caused from metal shavings getting in the speaker. I use a strong magnet to pull the metal out. I use an old XM magnetic antenna wrapped in a tissue and slide it back an forth over the earpiece while calling voice mail. It has worked for me many time in the past on several phones going all the way back to the first razr.
Well, damn. I just started having this issue after enabling and disabling bass boost in the DSP Manager. Whatever is going on, NOTHING will make the distortion go away except *enabling* bass boost in the app. If bass boost is enabled, the phone speaker sounds completely normal (no boosted bass or anything). If bass boost is disabled, there's a lot of distortion system wide. I already tried rebooting and a factory reset, I don't feel like flashing a different ROM to see if that will make it will go away.

I've had this phone since the end of Feb and it has never done this. This past weekend, my wife and I, were over at a friends house and we kept getting pestered on my phone by an idiot who wanted to start stuff with us. Point is, during that time my phone was passed to 3 ppl besides my wife and I. One of them, not my wife, pushed something and now all calls are through the speaker. Do any of you know how to keep the speaker from coming on everytime I make or receive a call or where the setting is to keep it from doing that? My phone is bone stock and non rooted. I have searched, read the manual cover to cover, and looked through all the settings with no answer. It is extremely annoying to have to shut the speaker off everytime I go to make or receive a phone call. Prior to this weekend it was never like that. Any help to resolve this will be much appreciated.

You could try emailing the HTC support site. They resolved a similar issue with me in a day, in that case it was volume always at max during a call when I had a head set on with no volume control, along with a strange status icon. I had inadvertently selected a buried setting that is for the hearing impaired. No one on this forum helped after two days so gave HTC a shot at it, and they came through.
Ok, Kool. I'll try that, thanx.

Called HTC and they wanted me to factory reset my phone. I told them I couldn't do it right then and would do it later in the evening. They said before I got off the phone with them, if a reset didn't work to call warranty and get it exchanged. Well, before I could perform the reset, my phone surprisingly stopped doing it. Dunno what corrected it but was glad it was gone. A couple days later, it returned for only 3 phone calls. What I figured out was that it is connected with the car panel app. You need to use an app like Watchdog, which I got the free paid version when it was the daily freebie from Amazon, find the Car Panel process and "kill" it and it will stop. When you close it out it just goes to the backround. You need to close the process to get it to stop. I am gonna call HTC back and let them know how I corrected it, so people who dont come to forums like this one and calls HTC they have a solution other than a factory reset.

Flashed a few roms on my phone and never bricked it whats so ever. It shows the IMEI, how ever it doesnt match the IMEI it have on on the back of the phone. The phone came with 2.2.1 Froyo and i upgraded it with ODIN using KJ6 2.3.6 GB rom. I can connect to wifi and such. It's not the sim card cause it works with all my friends tmobile phones. I get bars on the phone with the sim card in it. But when i attempt to make a call it says "Not registered to Network" i went to Settings>Wireless and network>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names, i went there to do the APN Manually i tried setting it to Default and it didnt help either.
Anyone know's how to fix this?

So.... you have flashed a few ROMs..... meaning you have at least ONE nandroid back up from when the phone worked?
If you do... you are good to go. If you don't..... good luck to you. You have what sounds like a generic IMEI.

Well i don't, didn't know i have to. So in other words it's impossible to get this phone back on?
I had the same issue with my phone, it just wouldn't stay on Network, and the SIM would go back and forth from being recognized or not. I flashed back to stock and it still didn't work. The ten minute battery pull was suggested in another thread and a few people swear it works. Mine played up before this was suggested so I never tried it.
I had the same thing happen with my wifes phone and all I could link it to was the Kj6 modem...see link below. I reflashed the whole ROM and it came back.
With my phone I just called T-Mo and told them that since I upgraded to 2.3.6 via Kies that my phone wasn't working properly (Technically true, but a little stretch). I flashed Bhundvens 1click to stock, factory reset, etc...etc... then paid $20 and got a replacement phone via UPS in about 4 days.
I not saying you are having the same problem as I did, but it sounds very similar.
As a side note, the replacement SGS4G (refurb) they sent me absolutely blows my original handset out of the water when it comes to signal strength. I get solid 4G speeds of 5MB+ in my house, where before I only got patchy edge. I was amazed at the huge difference in performance between two supposedly identical handsets.
I hope you can get this remedied without an exchange, but you should be able to get a new one for $20 as a last resort.

Back ups are suggested all over this forum. Now you know. It is not impossible... google 'generic imei' and look at the dozens of ways people have had success and failure trying to remedy it. There are a ton of threads in the SGS 4G forum alone.
And whether you fix it or get a new phone... make a back up of your efs folder FIRST thing along with a nandroid back up. It will save your ass if this ever happens again.

i'll give this a try hopefully it works
For some reason I cannot connect to AT&T's network for voice/data. I had been running MIUI for about 3 months and all was good. I came back from a trip Thursday and the phone wouldn't find a network after turning off airplane mode, but rebooting seemed to fix it. However, today I cannot get it to connect at all.
I have tried:
Wiping cache/davlik cache
Fixing permissions
Tried searching for a network operator through settings->mobile network->network operators, got nothing
Wiping user data and switching to ZEUS Build 6
Tried searching for a network operator again
Went back to 100% stock with GTG's Ultimate Unbrick
Still nothing for network operator under "Available networks" (Default setup is greyed out)
I'm going to guess either my SIM or 3G chip burned out? I was using the phone heavily the past few days with a ton of GPS stuff to get around Atlanta and it did get pretty hot on the car dash. I'll try taking it to an AT&T store tomorrow (ugh) but am open to any suggestions before I do so .
There are a few options I would consider:
1. Go to the apn and set up a new apn and save it. Select it and then reboot. There are a few floating around. Check my how to thread in the q/a. I posted one there. Make sure you create one and then save it.
2. Try flashing a different modem.
3. Take out the external micro sd. Back up your stuff from the internal sdcard. Factory reset from in the ROM. Warning: a factory reset from within the ROM will erase EVERYTHING, including pictures. Make sure you save everything first. Reboot. And if that doesn't work, odin with a re partition pit file or use one of the heimdall 1-click and then do a reset again.
4. Possibly remove the Sim and clean it. I've heard the Sim socket is very fragile and breaks easily. Use caution. You can always have the att guys do it and let them break it.
Gl
he said he did try flashing another rom and odining back to stock. if that doesnt work, nothing will. hopefully you still have a warranty.
Already restored to stock (and again from within the stock rom)... Forgot about my pictures :crying:
Tried I997UCKL2 and I997UCLB3 modems, with and without custom APNs.
Tried cleaning the SIM
Funnily enough I do get service bars (4/5) after the phone has been on for about a minute, but no HSPA+ icon and still can't make calls/MMS/internet (calls are about 5s of silence followed by an abbreviated dialing tone, then "Call Ended"). Yup, I think it's borked... Guess it's time for an S3! Thanks for the help though.

Sorry to hear about your pictures. I tried to warn you.
The last thing i can think of is to leave your battery out overnight. And then put it back tomorrow.
It sounds like it's hardware related though.
(Different ROM like miui and zeus have their own custom build.prop ril settings and apn. These potentially can mess with your phone connection if the partition messes up.
I wanted to make sure it was not a partition screw up. A double flash in heimdall uckj4 or uclb3 with boot loader checked or one of the Odin un-brick using a pit file would have clear this. Sounded like you did this already. Another user have reported clearing their efs in odin. I would only try this if you have backed up your efs position, either in root explorer or zen tool kit.)
Again, sounds like hw...

Well when I transferred my sim to my old dumb phone I left my Infuse off (about 3 hours). I just tried it again for kicks and miraculously it works perfectly now! Now I get to reinstall everything again (yay...), but I'm wondering if my sim slot is on its way out or something... Not sure why it would suddenly start working again.
Oh well, time to try out Zeus (MIUI was a little too buggy for me).
Thanks again all... hopefully it doesn't die on me again!

Good to hear.
If it starts to act wonky again, try a different battery. It is possible the heat you described may have damage the lithium cell. Idk..
Ebay has them for about $4 free shipping. Look for a usa shipper...2-4 days
For some reason this happens to me sometimes. I'm unsure myself. What I do to fix it is turn data on and off and then reboot. I do that a few times and then it starts working.

So after three different roms, several factory wipes, and all sorts of voodoo magic, it was a bad sim card.
Shame... I kinda wanted an S3 .
When I first got my Infuse 4G, the WiFi showed full strength in my house and the BT would let me roam a good twenty feet from the phone, with both the stock Froyo and after flashing to UCKK4 Gingerbread (rooted). Recently I have been getting only half strength Wifi sitting three feet from the router, and BT crackles and pops unless I hold the phone up to my ear, which kinda defeats the purpose of a hands-free headset. The BT will also repeatedly connect and disconnect if I put the phone in my pocket. Seeing how it worked fine for months after flashing, I don't think it's the ROM doing this, more likely hardware. Any ideas what might be causing this, and/or how I might diagnose it?
Upgrade to UCLB3.

Done (ROM, kernel, and baseband), didn't help. Any other suggestions?
My infuse gave me issues overtime as well. Constant wifi drops, wifi signal would always shut off, and i would get half signal as well. Definitely could very well be an issue with the hardware itself.

Whatever works for me might not work exactly the same for you. Just head on to the infuse super thread sticky in the dev section and just try all the modems there and see which one works best for you and if that doesn't work then it probably is a hardware problem. Hope it turns out well for you.

Yup. When the MitRa Rom was first ported a few of us had trouble with BT untill we changed the APN settings.
Try:
Origionally posted by locust43
create a new APN:
Menu Key, New APN.
Name : AT&T HSPA+
Important step: tap APN and enter exactly : phone
That's it! It's literally just "phone", not kidding. Leave everything else blank including Username and Password!
Scroll down to APN Type, Select Internet only
Hit the Menu Key, and hit SAVE
Your will return to APN settings, go to the APN you just created called AT&T HSPA+, tap the dot next to the APN and make sure it turns green!
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____________
Now for the MMS settings
Step 2 : MMS Settings
At the APN settings hit the menu key again and create a new APN, call it MMS
Under APN again just type : phone
go down to MMSC and fill the fields as follows
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: MMS only

Perhaps I should mention that I'm on StraightTalk...
So, I backed up my existing APNs, deleted them, entered 'phone', and got no data, not even the 'H+' icon. Changed it to 'att.mvno', no data. I added proxy (proxy.mvno.tracfone.com) & port (80) per the Straight Talk web site, no data. Cleared them again, restored my original APNs, still no data. I did reboot between every change. WTF?

Hmm. All I can really think that you could do is use GTG's ultimate unbrick and go back to stock Froyo and check it out again. Did you back up your apns before upgrading to GB? If so, try Froyo with your original apns and if it still does that then it is most likely a hardware problem.

General question about modems:
Can I flash any of them from the ISET onto any ROM? I'm running the 8/11 build of Jelly Bean, but I've noticed on every ROM I've ever ran (stock, MIUI, Zeus, Entropy's CM9, and now JB) Wi-Fi gets really weak. It's my only real problem with this otherwise fantastic device (the modifications have saved me lol)
I really don't know how modems work and are they just CWM flashable? Thanks a lot!

Oooooh thanks for that! Have to manually push it, probably would have ruined the phone altogether if I'd tried flashing.
Now I just need to determine which one...I dunno which one does what, so it's trial and error?
Anyone know waht is causing the volume level to go WAY down after I place, or receive a phone call. I love the phone very much but this is driving me crazy! I'm on T-Mobile which is working fine. I have to use the Digits app at home to make calls. But no mater if I use Digits or not, if I make or receive a call the loudness of anything on the phone basically goes away. System sounds, YouTube, Iheart radio.... Anything that uses the speakers looses all volume. I have to reboot to get it back. Pretty annoying
I am facing the same problem. It just started to happen this week.
Clearly it's boring! if your device is rooted with magisk try viper4android it's magic, believe me !
Im having a similar problem and started to notice it few days ago, mainly because I am 85% of the time using the phone on vibration only.
I don't know exactly what OP means with "goes away", if this means that the volume is low (ringing or playing music) but the controls are still to the top, then yes I'm facing it too, but, what is really strange is that for me, just the top speaker have sound, while the bottom speaker is really low.
I managed to figure out that if I cover the top speaker with my finger without "pressure" or trying to squash it, the bottom speaker start "working" again. Im lost with this situation.
Sounds like a messed up mixer math or possibly audio mod that is messing it up

Could be a botched firmware. Be my guess. Iv flashed many roms and official firmware and never had this issue. Have you tried flash tool or the new flasher?
