Anyone know waht is causing the volume level to go WAY down after I place, or receive a phone call. I love the phone very much but this is driving me crazy! I'm on T-Mobile which is working fine. I have to use the Digits app at home to make calls. But no mater if I use Digits or not, if I make or receive a call the loudness of anything on the phone basically goes away. System sounds, YouTube, Iheart radio.... Anything that uses the speakers looses all volume. I have to reboot to get it back. Pretty annoying
I am facing the same problem. It just started to happen this week.
Clearly it's boring! if your device is rooted with magisk try viper4android it's magic, believe me !
Im having a similar problem and started to notice it few days ago, mainly because I am 85% of the time using the phone on vibration only.
I don't know exactly what OP means with "goes away", if this means that the volume is low (ringing or playing music) but the controls are still to the top, then yes I'm facing it too, but, what is really strange is that for me, just the top speaker have sound, while the bottom speaker is really low.
I managed to figure out that if I cover the top speaker with my finger without "pressure" or trying to squash it, the bottom speaker start "working" again. Im lost with this situation.
Sounds like a messed up mixer math or possibly audio mod that is messing it up

Could be a botched firmware. Be my guess. Iv flashed many roms and official firmware and never had this issue. Have you tried flash tool or the new flasher?

No one else with this problem?

My phone seems to be shy. The volume on notifications and rings is so quiet as to not disturb an ants slumber.
I have cranked the sliders that (supposedly control) this setting within the sound menu all the way to the top. At that level the sound is about 1/4 of what it used to be.
Does anyone have any idea what I may have done? I am using infused 1.5.3 with the default kernel and modem. Perhaps the speaker has gone to pot...but I wonder if there is some software solutions I might try.
Thanks for your consideration.
Hmm... Could be that your speaker decided to randomly go out... Never had that happened before, so I don't know what to say. :/

You could try flashing to stock and see if the problem persists. If it does, your speaker may have blown or something. Haven't seen anyone else report an issue like this.

The problem seems to stem from something in the VooDoo controls. If I chug the analog gain thingy all the way up...it works as expected.
IDK why. I know VooDoo is only supposed to affect headphone usage. Three trials can't be wrong though. (or maybe they can...either way its persistent)
Hi,
I have been having a problem lately with the headphone port on my phone.I don't use it at all for anything but for some reason, my phone randomly says that there are headphones plugged into my phone. This stops me from being able to hear sounds out of the speaker so i miss phone calls and texts. I also can't hear voices when I phone someone.
I am currently using the latest version of the "CyanogenMod (CM7)" port on my phone. Was wondering if anyone else was having this problem.
Sorry if it has already been posted, I have searched and couldn't find anything.

I have never seen anyone report this problem nor have i had it myself. I think it is a hardware problem so try sticking something in there if you want to experiment yourself or take it to a repair shop.
I have tried that before and it didn't help unfortunately. I did again just to check and it didn't help.
If I re-boot the phone it stops doing it but only for a short time.
I plugged some headphones in after the re-boot and they didn't show.
Maybe there has been something spilt on it and no one told me
Thank you for your help

Try flashing another ROM, preferably a Froyo ROM and see if it works then because it seems the problems stops for a while then appears. Hopefully that works.

Hello guys,
Just recently, my speaker option stopped working and I am not sure how it happened. I've been on barebones for a couple months now and I was curious if it was just the rom, so I flashed cm9 and slimics, but still no luck. Any suggestions how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

When you say speaker option, do you mean putting it on speaker during a phone call? Do you hear sound out of your external speaker when you play music or do anything else besides phone calls?
I would suggest going back completely to stock using the GB one-click: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498. Or, maybe even giving the gremlin remover a try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500427&highlight=gremlin
If you don't get sound going on a completely stock ROM, you probably have a hardware issue. Has the phone been dropped or has anything been spilled on it?
Yes, your right, the speaker option won't work during a phone call. When it is at max volume its just a scratchy sound from the person when they talk. I think your suggestion may be the best way to go as far as trying to get my speaker to work again. Thanks.
So after a few weeks of using Digital highs GPE Lollipop build I ended up having this issue where my bottom speaker will just stop functioning entirely and I'd have to reboot to fix it, I decided this was a software issue and not a hardware issue so I flashed a new ROM, Liquid smooth. Now my issue is less annoying but still unbearably frustrating, instead of a reboot required, when I listen to music or higher pitched songs it will just give out again but I can fix it by killing my music app and restarting it. I believe this has to do with lollipop and isn't related to my phones speakers being broken but what do you guys think? I'm frustrated as hell about this.

just a thought have you tried reverting to a 4.4.4 rom to see if it fixes it? just to be sure it is not a hardware problem, i am curious how you came to the conclusion that it was not a hardware problem. if you think this because restarting the app or phone fixes it you may be mislead, could be the amp or some circuit is cutting out and then resetting have seen this in other types of amps. i could be completely off about this but it is something to consider.
if you were running 4.4.4 before and did not have the issue then that would be my suggestion. and if you find out that it is definitely software then you might want to try re installing the latest firmware again if you have not already tried this.

First off thanks for the reply, secondly, I haven't tried converting and it only started happening a month after Lollipop use so perhaps you're right and I was wrong to jump to the conclusion. However I only thought this because using a dif ROM the issue changed from reboot required to fix it to simply restarting the app im using. Leads me to believe it is ROM related. And I'll fix my MultiROM n boot up the old 4.4.2 rom i have n see if it works properly in a bit. Will report back when I'm done.

No problem, I understand how frustrating these things can be and i seen you had no replies thought I might share my thoughts.
You may be correct about it being The Rom, since after the change of rom changed what it took to reset it. Only thing that bothers me is why did it take a month before the problem surfaced, unless you added some other app that is somehow causing the problem.
Have you tried putting phone in safe mode and see if problem persists, if not it a app or something you have installed after that first month.
Hi there everyone. i need some help with a used nexus 4 that i recently purchased.
The mic does not work when i use the speaker phone in phone calls only.
i can make voice recordings in whatsaap, and other functions using the speaker mic works.
But when i try to use the speaker phone in a phone call, the other person cannot hear me at all, its as if i pressed 'mute' on the mic.
i searched the net everywhere i could think of, but only found people with the opposite problem, where the mic only worksin speaker mode for them, but not for regular calls, which is the opposite of my issue..
also another strange thing, when i plug in an external headset/mic, the whole phone becomes like one big mic, and any way i touch the phone, sounds like crumpling paper extremely loudly.....
does anyone know of a solid fix for this issue?
thnks!!!!

No, i havent tried that. i tried googling about that but found so many different instructions and ways, i wasnt sure what to follow.
heres the current details on the phone: (donno if this helps at all)
currently, its on ANDROID 5.1.1
baseband version: M9615A-CEFWMAZM
Kernel Version 3.4.0
BUILD LMY48T
could you please include a link, as a good trustworthy source for me to read as to how to do that on this phone? Im new to this... good wtih computers, but just new to flashing phones. last one i tried was on my doogee titans, and it completely bricked, it wouldnt even recognize being plugged into the charger. i wasnt succesfull in bringing it back to life. i want to be careful with this one.

well i never own nexus... what i can suggest just install minimal adb from xda... And then download last known official factory images from google or http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4 here... You can ask anybod here in general section.... People are willing to help just try to talk...
i was more like looking and hoping for someone who actually owned a nexus 4 and know about this specific issue and how to solve it......
it might save me hours of trying different things that may or may not work.
thnks though if i dont get any other replies ill just start by trying your advice.
