Before you change anything in the registry you must record the default settings on the device so you can simply change them back again. If you didn't do that, ask in these forums for the defaults for your device, someone will help you.

Hello group,
Wish me luck. I am about to start my first root/rom install. Going with Andromeda. This will be applied to my 5th replacement phone for the auto shut down issue. It just arrived. I am getting tired of getting replacements and waiting for a good one so that I can go to 2.2. I have read the guides. I have a couple questions that I can't find a clear answer on.
1) I already have a paid version of mybackup pro. Can that be used instead of titanium?
2) My phone is up and running on the stock 2.1. Is it normal to restore all apps, data and system settings from the 2.1 phone to the 2.2 install? Are the system setting compatible between the two?
3) I think I recall some mention of writing down some number from your original phone so that if you have to set it back to stock for warranty. I don't see that in the official instructions though. Is there such a precaution necessary?
Thanks in advance.

1. should owrk
2.Never restore system data. Your just asking for trouble if you do.
3. Back up your efs folder from system and copy it to your pc. As roms chnage android id and imei
cool thanks for the quick response. Nubish question from your response. How do I backup the "efs" folder I don't see it using the phone to browse the files or mounting the phone via usb and browsing via the pc. Do I have to root it first?

Yes you will need to root it first and then you will need a files explorer that will allow you to get to the system files. I use Root Explorer my self. One of the few apps that is well worth the money
good luck with the first go at it. I just did the same the other day and must say best decision I made with this phone.
What everyone else said is good. I would also back up your contacts and write down your APN settings. Some ROMs change the APN.
Contacts:
1) Contacts > menu button > Import/Export > Export to SD Card > you will get a vcard file saved to your sd card. You should also back this up on your pc.
2) You can also sync your contacts with your gmail account. I usually take the vcard from earlier and import it into gmail.
APN:
1) Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > just write down the settings in case they change in the future.

zelendel and sircaper answered his post, then you... How about: Please read the stickies before you start customizing your phone, so you know how to deal with any problems that might arise.

Would of been easier if you just referred him to it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919816
Instead of this nonsense
You will be nothing but happy after flashing. I do not mpost much on here, just read and read, but this site is excellent in finding what you need. I ran Phoenix for a while and it was very good, but I have flashed Serendipity 5.0 with the latest Speedmod kernel and its working great. Battery life seems to have improved for me with this combination.
So did you flash?? What was the outcome? Success? Check out Ceszar's continuum theme for Andromeda, just love that along with Andromeda 2.0
I'm curious too as to how everything went for you.

Yes i flashed. running andromeda for the past couple days. seems fine. much faster and the gps lokcs in seconds now. with 2.2 i can now use skype, flash, chrome to phone and use the power button for the camera shutter. All wins for me. I am not sure I get any more battery life out of this setup. I have been playing with it non stop, so I don't have any real world numbers on the battery life. I also learned that mybackup pro can't restore apps backed up from 2.1 to 2.2 I tried 3 times and every time the apps would fail at some point and I wold have to hard close them.
I have noticed a couple times that I have lost the data connections either on wifi or the 3g. Not sure it's the rom, hardware or just plain bad cell sites. but on reboot the connections were fine.
Over all impressed with the dev team for adromeda. They have an irc channel and there seems to be someone always there to answer my questions.

Just an update.
I rolled back to the untheamed 1.0 andromeda and then applied the DMT Dark Theme. did not like the battery meter so loaded modded circle one. Pretty happy with the look now. See the attached running launcher pro.
That looks really good.
I wish I had seen this thread before you installed that new ROM. I would have told you that stickies are for sissies.
Do it all from the seat of your pants and depend on luck. That's what I say. (j/k)
Do you see that business about restoring all system data? I tried that yesterday, I think it was. Got a good install of Paragon RC5. I think I then tried a full system data restore from TiBu. Rebooted the phone and it started back up so that it required a PIN to unlock it. I guess because I had been using that function before install of RC5. The PIN did not work. Tried this method not only once, but twice. Finally figured out how to use TiBu for real, I think. Makes me wonder if these locking schemes are worth using. I suppose they might buy you just a little bit of time in case of theft.
If you get to jonesing for something new, check out the ROM mentioned above.
Glad you're happy with your efforts!
.
Glad to hear it all went well for you. And I like the look you got going there. Seems like you did great for your first time

well.. the post just points back to XDA
here is the tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021135
And what exactly does this mean? Is it the same as superuser access on Android? (Sorry, new to WP7)
It is a registry viewer/editor that allows you to edit restricted registry entries.
Oh and it works pretty well.
M
in the end when the app is done it will be really nice to be able to tweak things for speed, we shall see where this app takes us and what it means
It has already helped me out a lot. Got the "never" option to show up for the lockscreen so that I can keep my phone on, charging, and keep the wifi going to update all my emails, etc. Awesome tool...many thanks to Heathcliff

I'd like to know too. Same applies for HTC Message Uploader. Since I have a HTC phone with Android 2.3 HTC added quite some applications and services to the background which are to say at least a bit doubtful.
Maybe someone knows the answer to this one: suggest removing/uninstalling would harm the functioning of the device, would hard-resetting the device reverse to its initial state?
If you're trying to remove these things, my guess is you have root?
If so, do a Nandroid backup and remove it. If everything's still functional, awesome! If something isn't working right anymore, restore to your backup
I have installed link2sd it allows you to freeze a perticular application. Once you do that no service or application or user can run this app.
Try doing that and you ll come to know if your phone can work without it or not. and then you can uninstall to save space.
Is there a way for me to change my Windows Live account credentials without wiping my phone? I changed my login email address, and now my phones freaking out. I'm dev and interlop unlocked.

It's not supposed to be possible, no.
I've heard reports that you can change it by using the Supreme Shortcuts app to re-run the Out Of Box Experience, which will allow you to specify a new primary account. This is totally unsupported, though - for whatever reason (don't ask me...) Microsoft decided they really wanted to make you hard-reset before doing that.
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19187155&postcount=626
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=626
follow the post will change the live account without reset your wp7
Thanks, that looks promising. Now that I have the provxml file, how do I actually load it on to the phone? I can't find anything about that.
Ahhh it's killing me that I'm so close. I can't figure out how to find the GUID I need for the provxml file, but I think I figured out how to load it.

Thanks, worked perfectly
Just out of interest, will apps bought with the original ID work if you change it to another?
about to give my old phone to a family member and wondering if there was a way to keep navigon on the phone for them!
Recently tried installing 9 innings baseball and upon startup of the app it prompted me that "Device is Rooted, Please try again when Unrooted". First, is this legal? Second, is there a way to get around this? Third, How does this app even detect my root?
I'd love to play this game as I heard good things about it!
Thanks in Advance!

been looking for a good baseball app - but I guess I cannot use it now. found this forum though - might have better luck there:
http://global.com2us.com/forum/showthread.php?p=424792
Why would it not be legal? Note, this is the not the same question as whether or not it's the right thing to do. They can stop anyone they want from playing, it's their right. Apps typically block root when they used some type of shared scoring or leaderboard system that is susceptible to client-side hacking. It's a cheap workaround to prevent rooted players from playing rather than having to actually make their app secure.
As for how, a quick Google search turned up this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1101380/determine-if-running-on-a-rooted-device
That's a very simplistic way to check, and even it would be difficult to hide from. I've no doubt companies that are doing this as an anti-hacking measure are doing things more complex than this.
Yea I did a google search too and nothing seemed to help. I tried the temp unroot but that doesn't work. Was wondering if the XDA community knew some better way as I didn't find anything on the forums.
Legality side of it, Yea I suppose your right. But it's like saying I can't install WinAMP on Windows because I changed some registry files. Companies should defiantly not use rooting as an "anti-hacking" tool against their app. Either way they got a bad review because of it, hopefully they will take it into consideration and fix it.
It's the first time I've ever heard of an app not allowed because of root, is that a common thing?
Not really common, per se, but I've heard of it on a couple of other games. It's almost universally games that are susceptible to some type of client side hacking. There are some other apps that will do more specific things, like block you if you try to run an ad blocker, but very few will outright stop you for only rooting.

Hey it WORKED!
What I had to do:
1) Installed SuperSU
2) Went to Settings>Apps>Manage Apps>All and Force Stopped Superuser
3) Opened SuperSU, Settings, and unchecked Enable Superuser.
This app must use the 3rd method listed on shrike1978's link where it checks for su binary. Thankfully because the other two checking methods would be impossible to get around without unrooting. (I'm sure it's not impossible, but more work than I care to do)
Thanks for the help AgentFour20
No problem . Just hit the thanks button , that would be greatly
appreciated .
