Ive looked through the site and found nothing about this, so i was thinking last time i made a nandroid backup,Could we instead of flashing roms just restore each others nandroids thru recovery and list all the features of the backup and put them up in a post sort of like the rom wiki? Then EVERYONE could definately find a setup they liked....just a thought. I dont have someone else's phone to test it on. Or are the number names on the nandroid backup files system specific? Any answers or info would be greatly appreciated. I think this would be cool if it works because we'd have so many choices of setups if ppl put theirs up,and it would eliminate bootloop, time for flashing roms and any extra addons. Then you can continue adding to or removing from the restored nandroid backup if you wish, or you could just leave it.
this is how the moto droid guys flash their roms. seems like ours would work...
I too have been thinking about this...
Only Problem is that is stores /data
And that is your settings and passwords for any apps you have used or market sign in etc
Also of you had any paid apps you would also not have to have those installed or the other person would get them and that would be considered warez and just flat out suck for the Devs that make them
You would have to nandroid right when you flash the update before you setup any passwords.
Or you could remove the /data part but then more than likely it will FC on multiple apps
Just A Thought.....
I think if we put up a repository for ppl do upload their fav. setups with the following specific information:
1)Rom name and version
2)Kernel if changed
3)Apps and System apps might be alot but nice
that we could all benefit and see some of the things other ppl are doing with THEIR roms. It would give the ppl like me who get flash crazy rather quickly many more options. We could just label them starting with NAN RECOVERY#1, with all the details and then go from there....
you could skip the sign in the beginning and customize and upload, minus paid apps and stuff, that way your contacts and google log in wouldnt be stored. but yea it would work
edit: guess it wont work. haha

everytime i try to rename a nandroid backup i cant get the phone to restore it...
This won't work, I've tried it. Ask me how? Well two of my Hero's died on me but thankfully I was still in the 30 day warranty period both times. Anyways everytime I've tried to restore my old settings from my previous phone but it won't take because it's a different serial number. I managed to get around that but once you flash the rom and boot up the phone EVERYTHING force closes on you. Even if you DO NOT have passwords/logins etc... There is your answer go try for yourself if you would like but don't say I didn't tell you.

NO spaces. Make sure there's no spaces in your backup name, use dashes or underscores instead
Hmmm.....

Thanks for the feedback,i did think this through way before posting. I would have become aware of those issues if i had someone else's device to test this theory.maybe if you want to upload you get your setup and set up your apps and then nandroid before you add your paid apps to your own setup. The benefit would still be the same, there are more good free apps that i use than paid anyway. So we would not be using warez and taking money from devs, and then just log into your own google account. That SHOULD work....

Date them with dashes and it will work, i do it every time to keep track. I still need another hero to test the serial number thing since you actually just named your backups the wrong way. So those results wont work. Because if you had named them the right way your results wouldve been different. Also we wouldnt change the exact backup name, we would title and then link to the file....thanks for reporting your experience

Danny, I too had to swap out my Hero and for the hell of it restored a Nandroid backup from my original phone. However, unlike your experience, I had no problems with force closes. The only thing that happened was that Gmail wouldn't send properly. I fixed that by wiping the Gmail cache. I don't think that issue is specific to restoring a Nandroid from a phone with a different serial number though as I've read others having the same problem on occasion. Also, assuming we'd be sharing backups that don't contain personal info on them, this Gmail issue would be unlikely to happen.
In any case, I like this idea. Perhaps we should be checking out how the Droid folks are doing this (as someone else pointed out). They might've worked out the kinks in this Nandroid sharing plan.
Any One Care To Help Me Test?
If anyone would care to help me test my idea,so to maybe get something going on the site for everyones benefit who like my idea and want to flash these backups, I will test someone elses if anyone is willing to send me one or a link to one;please leave the numbers unchanged for accuracy,or i can send someone one of mine becuase i have many from 1.5 and 2.1 with several different rom and theme setups that i would be willing to share to test out my idea. Anyone interested please just pm me...Thanks

Or you can pull the apps you use on your current ROM and push them back via ADB on the clean ROM. Kind of a hassle though.
ive done it, it works, just save the nandroid backup folder ie. BCDMRS-date-3463, inside the folder ie. /sdcard/nandroid/HT02yourphone/ with the rest of your backups.
then recovery, backup and restore, nand restore and select the backup u saved.
Thanks

Found a way to delete some of the ATT bloatware if you are rooted. There is an app called titanium backup that lets you delete system apps. It is nice having them all out of my app tray since I'll never pay to use them.

Yeah, this pretty much sums it up. Don't delete any of the google voice or google talk apps though, as another user mentioned this caused problems for him. (Not 100% sure on the specific apps involved though)
I got rid of all of the ATT ones and haven't had any issues.
Ummmm okay, I open the program, select "Backup/Restore" and it gives me:
Accounts
Application Widgets
Bluetooth Pairings
Country, Language, Time zone
Wi-Fi Access Points
If I select "Application Widgets" I get an option to "Backup!", but "Freeze!" and "Uninstall!" are grayed out. I don't even get a list of installed apps.

You should get a list much longer than that.
Try pressing the problems button at the bottom of the screen and letting it download the "known good version" of busybox. Not sure if this will work, but I did it before doing anything else and everything is working good for me.

rooting
rooting positively absolutley voids warranty, correct? Also....ANY possible way to remove AT&T bloatware w/ out rooting? I'm prob guessing no.
Thanks for the pointers - I just removed all the AT&T apps and the phone definitely seems to approve as much as I do.

I think you need root....
One of the few apps able to remove the bloatware is the Titanium backups but this one needs root to install.
I think if you have adb/sdk and able to console in, you should be able to uninstall crap like that. Then again i think you need root permissions to access those file.
Don't quote me.
pretty sure there will be an unroot so if thats a concern id wait.
I'm new to the whole android scene. I just rooted my phone and currently have Titanium Backup running doing a backup of Apps + System data. Is that all I need to make sure I have a backup of those AT&T apps should I need/want them back?
I believe it is saving them in a folder called TitaniumBackup. Should I transfer that folder to my pc just in case something happens to that backup on my phone?
Thanks for the list of apps to get rid of as well. Will come in handy.
I am new to this thread and rooting phones in general. I know you probably hate dealing with people like us, but you have to start somewhere...
anyways... I have a motorola atrix and i had recently rooted it just to delete the unwanted pre installed apps... and then i "unrooted" it? ... i beleive... i just dont know if unrooting it actually unroots it. well now i just tried to install the new update that came out yesterday, but it fails on installation. i was wondering if that has something to do with the uninstalled apps? if so... that brings me to a second problem. i did back up the apps with titanium before uninstalling. but it wont let me put them back. and i believe that is because the atrix wont let you install 3rd party apps? please correct me if i am wrong?
well i was just wondering if anyone else was having this problem or if any one could help. thanks! and sorry for being a noob

I just hate it when people use USELESS thread titles...
How is "UH OH" better than "[Motorola Atrix] Root & Installing/Deleting Apps"...
Use the edit button and change it so other people with the same problem can actually find this thread.
To know if you have root or not there is actually a free app on the market to check this and tell you if you are rooted or not.
Depending on the apps you uninstalled, yes this failed update could be caused by this.
If you can provide the names of the apps you uninstalled i might be able to tell you more.
Installing third party apps can be turned on at Settings/Applications.
Depending where the app was, Titanium Backup might need root to put it there.
You don't have to be sorry for being a noob, just use a good thread title so people know with a look at the title, if they can help or not, and provide as much information in the post as you can, to help people help you .
Not everyone looks into every thread, most if they don't have to spare alot of time (skilled people usually don't have too much free time ), just take a look at the thread titles and decide if they look in it or not.
The apps i deleted were...
Talk 1.3
Help center 2.2.1
Task Manager 9.0 (performance manager)
Home screen tips 2.2.1
Yes you are correct, phone does have to be rooted to put the apps back. It actually has to be rooted just to run titanium. I did Reroot it and try putting them back, but when i do the restore with titanium, its puts all apps back to their setting at the time of the back up, but the missing apps dont install (basically everything on the restore works but the apps i deleted)
i do get the warning when opening titanium saying i will not beable to restore apps with my current settings on my phone and to do what you said (settings> applications>) but from what iv found. it seems the atrix does not have this option.
if you need any more info please let me know. i just want this update because it is supposed to fix a few bugs.
Thanks!
I got it taken care of.
thanks!
I had Skype on my phone but it stopped working after it updated. I could recieve calls no problem and had video/voice chat. But everytime I tried to send a call it would fail after 3 rings.
So I decided I would uninstall and reinstall. Unfortunatley I am getting this error - "Insufficient Storage Available" when I try to install the app.
My internal SD card has 4.21GB of available space. My internal phone sotrage memory has 792MB free.
Why am I getting this error?

Posts on XDA don't have to be approved .
(Not for now at least *looks at SOPA*)
XDA puts trust in their users not to abuse this privilege.
Read up on what rooting is here.
Okay, now back to topic.
There are more partitions(areas) on your phone than what you can see with normal apps or in the settings.
It is possible that one of these is full and causing that message.
I'm not too familiar with your device but "/cache" could be on an extra partition and be full with half done market downloads.
But that would probably stop skype from downloading , not from installing.
Your internal storage which is "/data" might have space left, but it is possible that "/data/data" is on an extra partition that is full, and "/data/data" is where applications are usually stored.
You could go to Settings->Manage->Applications and tap on some apps and select "Clean Cache" (the internet browser is a good place to start).
I cleared browser cache, market cache, and market data but that did nothing.
anymore suggestions?
well I read around on google and apparently this a very common problem.
the only method I have read though to fix it is rooting. I don't know anything about rooting as I stated in my OP. I know that rooting voids my warranty with rogers though and I don't want to screw anything up. I cannot afford another phone.
if anyone has another idea how to fix this problem that would be great.
does this look like a legit answer?

Does factory reset wipe the apps that came with my phone?
tons of apps came with my phone like facebook, twitter, rogers navigation, google navigation, angry birds, voice search, etc.
No factory reset will wipe everything you installed and changed.
To get rid of preinstalled apps, you will have to root -
This is going to sound ridiculous but I had the same problem installing several apps the last time I put on a new rom. It was resolved by rebooting the phone.
Should have been step 1 but it was not listed.
if you mean turn off/on I tried that.
has anyone tried this temporary root thing I posted above. does it look legit?
I also had this problem with my old "desire". resolved with the installation of a2sd +.
Which needs root....
So you either have to get comfortable with rooting your device or nag the manufactor / provider about it .

Ok so I bought a Note 4 used. All is good with the phone. It's on Marshmallow 6.1 (who cares)
Now I've rooted the phone and it's all good ... but .... oh yeah. "facebook scum of the earth" have now several apps (3) on 6.1 yup AND I cannot remove them !!!!
F. No. I'm rooted. I'm running Titanium Pro and still that isth comes back, time and again. These barstewards are circumventing Play Store. No matter if you're set to "do not update apps) it just keeps coming back. I've tried to nuke this **** 3 times now. I had to do a restore from TWRP every time. If you shut them down they come alive again.
I detest FB and all the rapc they stand for and trouble they cause. I want that s/w off my phone but how do I go about that? I've always relied on Titanium. Not this time.
So what now? I even tried to take a screen-shot but got a security notice "telling me that screen-shot WASN'T ALLOWED. what the duck- in - hell is going on.?
The gaul of these people. What ever happened to out privacy?
If I can't nuke these apps, I'll need to find an earlier ROM from 5.....?
Any brains out there much appreciated helping me ****e on these dickheads!
Thank you
sounds like bloatware from your provider not fb

First off learn to do this yourself
Titanium and other apps are a crutch..
You can never be sure it's done right unless you do it your self.
Get the oem image for your Rom
Learn how to open it up and remove or add things
(That how custom Rom masters do things)
Remove what you want and flash away..
Or find a debloated version of your Rom and flash that.
And understand.
As time goes on Google, samsung and everyone else are trying to find ways to stop you from changing things on your phone..
They make money from it..
(And they get less support calls about problems from noobs who mess up their phones)
One day.. You will just be stuck with it.
this is good apk may help
try this app
create a blank app with the same package name, then facebook won't be able to update it due to unconsistent certificates
Thanks all. I don't currently have an OS so I can't install anything. No matter how long I let the phone sit it does nothing. Somehow I feel like the phone is not wiped completely as I thought it would be using TWRP (twerp) I'm guessing this is why I can't simply replace an image twerp made for me.
I've tried to use Kies to re-install a basic OS but it had a heart attack and its toes curled up and it died RIP Kies!
Ideas?
Well, I thought I'd update this thread. I got a copy of Lineage 14.1 and a copy of Gapps Nano 7.1 and flashed the pair of them.
WoW finally someting that works .....? NOT
Sadly everything works but the phone bit. uckf, it never ends! Whatscrapp, Viber & Skype the screen goes black and I've no control. The regular phone is black screen too but works bi-directional. Whatscrapp just calls yet no voice transfer either way. Viber & Skype connect with voice both ways but the screen is black no control, no soft keys or home button. WTF is going on?
ANY help would be much appreciated. It not my settings as far as I can tell. Everything else on the entire phone works. Well except the pen bit, not that I'm bothered about that.
I've a Note3 and I can say, that Whatscrapp will not do voice just like the Note4. Note3 did WA voice a loooong time ago but packed up never to return. All the rest of WA works though. I can't help wondering what WA hooks onto to make voice because it'll ring and I can be called but that is where the fun stops. Seems the world has forgotten just how robust Skype really is with Viber being a gillion time better than WA WA sadly rules for now.
Ideas anyone?
Cheers
No takers on this? Where do I go for xpert help? Please advise. Thanks
