Video Camera Not Functioning Properly - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Hey all,
When i film video on this camera, it only works part of the time. If it does work, it still has parts where giant blocks show up on the footage when viewing it back and its like the footage gets stuck in pieces.
Most of the time though, when trying to playback through the gallery, the clip just doesnt display and it says "Sorry, this video cannot be played". This happens right after shooting it. I tried rebooting and giving it another shot but the best i could get was it would show the first few seconds and then go black and display the error message.
Anyone else having this error?
Thanks.

You seem to be the only one having this particular issue. What is your current set up?

Try another memory card. Sounds like your sd card went bad.
Sent via my talk enabled Galaxy Tab using XDA premium.

I'm just running stock Sense rooted.
Mem card was sandisk straight out the package, i'll try a different one though and see what happens.
Any certain type of micro sdhc or specific formatting type we're supposed to be using?

I use a Sandisk card myself. I just used my phone to format it before use. You should always format a new card before you use it. It is formatted standard fat16.

I went ahead and swapped out the card for another sandisk 16gb. Formatted it through windows though. We'll see if this helps. Appreciate the suggestions.

I know the Answer! There's a bug in the Stock Rom. On RootzWiki its called green blocks. Just do a battery pull. I had the same issue on stock rooted.

Thanks Elgin dude, I actually did do a battery pull right after filming and the clips still wouldnt play from gallery for the most part.
They do seem to be playing better now with the new mem card, hoping that was all the problem was.
thanks all.

32 GB Micro SD card question!

I bought a 32 gb micro sd off ebay! I've heard of some people getting bad cards off there. The one I've got is a Sandisk 32 gb class 4.
I've been able to do these things:
-It reads 30.9 gb available space after formatting it.
-Format it from the phone.
-Move my apps to it and they function fine.
- record video and take pictures and view from the phone.
Now when it comes to putting MP4 movies on it, I've been able to get 3 to work. Any others I put on it it either won't read them or the video doesn't play right. I have a class 2 16 gb sandisk that has no problems at all.
My questions are these. How do I know if I got a fake one, is there a way to test it? Are there any ideas on a way to fix this?
I'm running a 32gb class 4 card in my phone with no problems.
Are you saying that the same files work on the 16gb card, but not the 32gb card? I'm having a hard time with that idea; the card doesn't care what the file is; its only job is to store the bits.
It is possible that you're hitting a bad spot on the chip, and that the larger video files happen to be the ones hitting the bad spot, but I've never actually heard of an SD card that "sort of" works; every one I've ever had has either worked or not worked.
If you're having trouble with video files in general, the problem is more likely the encoding of the video files. If you're trying to view downloaded movies, you could be hitting unsupported resolutions, bit rates, or encoding schemes. There also seems to be a wide variation in h.264 encoders, so some will work great and others will fail miserably.
One thing you could do is find an encoder that works for you, then run any movies you acquire through that encoder to ensure that you have a uniform resolution, bit rate, and h.264 encoding setting.

Hey Tom thanks for helping OP out. Regarding the 32gb card, how much did you pay for it? I was looking in amazon and they are 45 dollars. Did you find a better deal?

30.9 gb sounds right. The rest of the card is dedicated to storing a map of where the files are stored.
If you think the video files are corrupted, try playing them on your computer from the card.....they should work. In that case you just have a funky file that isn't working in your phone.
Moboplayer is my favorite media player, if it needs any extra codecs to work, it'll let you know. Just make sure to change the video decoding to "software" after that, I believe.

What are you guys using to get all of the files transferred from an old card to the new card, I have formatted it on the phone, on the computer, tried copying from the computer to the card using a USB adapter, tried copying over the same way but in 3 separate batches, The phone is seeing the card and 26G free, but none of my programs are showing up. I am now trying this, formatted the card in the phone, and copying through the phone.

I just used a card reader and copied the files onto the computer then from my computer to the new card. Also i think it was a bogus card. The guy offered a full refund but now that he got it back, I havent heard from him. I filed a buyer protection claim. I read a n article in ebay forums about bogus 32 gb cards being sold. They're only 2 or 4 gig cards made to look like 32's. Anyone else heard of this?

[Q] Moving large fimes to SD thru USB

Why is it such a problem moving large files, such as roms, to the sd card from a pc thru usb. It will stop and say something about camera has stopped. I had to put my sd card in the wifes HTC tb to put the rom on the card and put it back in the SG3 to install a rom. Am I missing something?
Thanks, Mike
I have this issue too and hate it big time.
I have to move 200-300mb at a time now.
Moving more is like never gonna happen. Wish they'd fix this. Hate to have to buy a micro sd OTG USB adapter just to move files around.
Try different cables. I am constantly moving large files around with no issues. In fact it's faster than moving files from my hard drives on my cpu. 1gig from sd to cpu takes less than 30 seconds. Faster from external sd/running sd speed boost.
Sent from my VZW GS3 running Synergy/LeanKernel/Dark Horse Rises
Tried several, tried the one that came with the SG3, tried the one that came with the HTC TB, Tried a motorola. All with same result. Moving files off sd is no issue, just moving files onto sd from pc is problematic. Few songs at a time is no issue, but a ROM is not going to happen. Gets all the way done then states camera has stopped and will not go. I keep thinking I must have an option ticked incorrectly somewhere in the phone, but if it is, I can't find it.
Mike
Your in mtp mode, not camera mode correct? Loading onto sd is good for me, 800mb rom's load on I'm less than a min. Weird.
Sent from my VZW GS3 running Synergy/LeanKernel/Dark Horse Rises
Actuall no I was in (PTP) camera mode. I just saw move any files. That must be the issue. I saw the MPT and thought it was just for syncing audio and such. Will try when I get off work. Thats probably the problem I was looking for, Thanks.
Mike
I have the exact same problem (one I've never had with any other phone)
I was trying to copy blue-ray rips to my 64 gig sandisk card while the card was in the phone. I am using a brand new straight from the package cable that came with my second G3 (I have 2 phones). It starts to copy just fine, but quits 1/2 way thru & stops responding. every single time.
This is a brand new I7 PC that I just built a few weeks ago running Windows Seven Pro with 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM.
If I use a universal reader (even thru a USB HUB) the files copy just fine either from any of the three 2 terrabyte secondary hard drives or from the solid state boot drive to the card.

More than likely its as annoyingduck said, try mtp mode not ptp(camera). I think ptp is just optimized to do a 'camera' sync onto your computer. (for windows users, that annoying dialog box that pops up asking if you want to sync video, pictures, make a dvd, etc...)
I didn't realize I had the same problem as well. Awhile ago, I noticed that my data transfers would time out and I've only ever used camera mode. Thanks for the tip!

You could also give Airdroid a shot. It works over wifi so it's just a touch slower than the USB cable, but it's super solid and is wireless too!
No mention of manufacturer, class or capacity of sdcard?
Makes a huge difference.
Also make sure to be using an OEM usb cable from a major manufacturer. Knock off or cheapy dollar store cables just don't cut it for charging, let alone transfer...

I actually find it a shade faster than my pitiful USB 2.0 ports.
Takes about 5-10 minutes to xfer 700mb files on Airdroid. I think anyways, I'm guestimating from about 10 hours ago when I xferred a 700mb file. I wasn't on top of it but I'm pretty sure it finished closer to the 5 minute mark...
That fixed it, switched mode and tranfered a rom. First time it timed out, tried again and it went through fine. Was using the OEM cable with a 32 gb sd, not sure of class. I know its not a 10. Will take a look at Airdroid, thanks for that tip.
Thanks, Mike

I can take the card & stick it in my Rezounds & it loads fine, put it back in the G3 & nothing but problems so I gave up and use a card reader.

[Q] GS3 corrupting single image on reboot/MTP?

anyone else have this issue? i can't remember if it started when i got my new 64 gig card, or if it did it on my 32 gig as well.
basically, upon reboot, it seems to just corrupt one of the last images taken. in the gallery it's just gray, shows as 0kb, and says unable to load image. so the image is completely gone.
this happens pretty much on every single reboot, and every time i plug it into the pc.
i've used exfat and fat32 as my sdcard format, and it did it on both. my friends GS3 completely corrupted and ruined his sd card, to the point where he can't even format it on the pc and has to buy a new one......and i've read horror stories of the GS3 just eating up SD cards like crazy.
i don't understand wtf causes this? any insight?!

Having a weeeeird SD card issue.

Alright so I recently bought a 32gb sd card so I could put the rest of my music on my phone. And I transfered all my music on to it. Put it in my phone. And all of the sudden half of it is deleted? So I thought I was crazy and put it back in my laptop and sure enough half of it wasn't there. So I transferred the music again by selecting all the music instead of just moving the folder.. Waited till it was done. Checked to make sure it was all there and put it back in my phone.. Sure enough half of it has been deleted again. I'm on Embryo 6.5, I use player pro as my music player, and the card is a SanDisk 32gb.

Sounds like you're either trying to move too much at one time, or you have a bad card. The ROM is really irrelevant as you have been putting the SD directly into the computer.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I've moved a lot more to different storage devices and never had a problem. Like I said, it disappears when I put the card into the phone. I did it again and threw it in my tablet this time, and it all showed. It's definitely a phone issue. The card is fine.

Sounds like it's not rebuilding the database. Are you trying to read it with the player or with a file explorer?

Both. The music files are gone. It shows them gone when I put it back into my laptop also. As soon as the card goes in the phone, it deletes them for some reason.

Yep, sounds that way. There is a huge problem with counterfeit and sub-quality SD and Micro SD cards these days. It is so huge of a problem that many of the cards that are sold from Amazon, E-bay, and Brick-and-mortar stores are fakes. Its so hard to buy a legit SD card these days because the fake or altered cards are actually in OEM packaging or at least it looks very similar to OEM packaging. Many times defective cards or lower capacity / lower class cards are being physically altered to appear like more expensive cards. It seems to mostly be a problem with the class 10 cards. Sometimes people don't even know they are getting screwed because the cards usually work for the purpose that they use them for, but if checked (and some never do) the actually specs of the card fall way short. Many of these cards fail quickly as well. To add to the problem, certain phones "like" certain cards better than others. So one card may work well, and another card (same manufacturer, class, and capacity) doesn't work well at all. It's a crap shoot even if the card is good quality and legit. So, sometimes you just have to go through a few before you can get one that works well or just get lucky with buying one card that happens to work well. I purchased 2 cards that were counterfeit before I learned of the problem. Both were supposed to be 32 GB class 10 San disk cards and were marked as such. One was from Amazon and one was from Radio shack. I noticed a problem with both because while I was taking video in very fine mode, the phone would lock up when recording to SD card. Both fine and normal video modes worked and very fine video mode worked with no problem when saved to internal or when saved to another SD card I have (16 GB class 10 PNY). The problem was that both of the San disk cards were recording data at a rate that was too slow for very fine video and certainly way slower than a class 10 card. So, they were fake or altered to appear to be a better class card than they were. Just check Amazon reviews for most 32 GB class 10 cards (manufacturer doesn't matter) and you will see several benchmark reviews that show how bad these cards can be. Good luck, the best advice I can give is never trust an SD card with important info and ALWAYS back all data up...TWICE!
That's way when it comes to these things I always buy after I make sure I can return a defective item..
A bad sd card doesn't explain why it works fine in my tablet. Then music deletes when I throw it in my phone.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
It was definitely Embryo. I switched to Rogers latest CM fix and everything is working fine now. All music is there, nothing is deleted randomly.

Corrupted photos (1 out of 20 times)

Hi everybody,
I open this thread because I'm desperate. The Galaxy S7 is my 4th Android device and I had a problem of corrupted photos at least with the 3 last devices. I bought the S7 partly with the hope of say goodbye to this fuc**** problem.
But here we are, I have the S7 since a month now and it gave me already tons of corrupted photos. On my previous Xpiera devices I use various AOSP ROM and now I use King ROM on my S7 and the problem frequency still exactly the same. (I was expecting a solution by using stock based ROM.)
Speaking of the problem, here is the descption of it:
- About 1 out of 20 times (to be nice) I got corrupted photos with a varible sized grey rectangle. (See 2nd picture enclosed)
- That's new with the S7: sometimes there is no grey rectangle but a big problem of colors. (See 1st picture enclosed - I just add blue rectangles over faces)
I hope you have ideas about my problem. :fingers-crossed:
I don't understand why this problem still persists over different devices. I also already tried few microSD card.
Don't hesitate to share any idea or ask me for details if you don't understand my average English.
Thanks in advance! :good:
Pretty weird... did you try shoot with selfiestick? I guess you`ve high EM field emitted by your hands.
P.S. I`m not kidding at all!
Have you tried a different ROM? formatted your phone and /data in TWRP?

Hi and thanks for this (surprising) idea. I guess EM meanselectromagnetic.
I didn't have a selfiestick but I just tried to take photos with a big magnet next to my phone and all photos were ok. So EM doesn't seem to produce corrupted photos.
It's a ramdom bug, sometimes all is ok for almost few weeks and then (for example yesterday) I got 4 corrupted photos in the 15 photos I took.
There is some threads on internet where people complain about grey rectangles in there photos but nobody seems to found a solution.
I have to say that I'm a bit frustrated to pay over 500€ for a flagship smartphone and still have this kind of issues...

No I switched to Stock based Custom ROM because I just can't support Stock ROM.
It's not conceivable that I use the stock Samsung ROM daily, I prefer sell my phone than have to use this kind of heavy and no-functional ROM. I would prefer a AOSP based ROM but Samsung high end devices doesn't offer that.
Nevermind! :silly:
I sould try a stock ROM for a couple of days but no more. Maybe next weekend.

This is exactly what I thought.
Try to save the photos in phone memory, not in the external SD card and see if this still give you corrupted photos. If not, then the SD card is most likely corrupt (should not be repaired with just a format. Buy a new one instead)
Had exactly the same problem of corrupted images. Even worse, my phone just crashed on the gallery app, requiring reboot with power+volume down.
Remove the sd card. The sd card is causing it, either get a good new one, or use the internal memory of the phone.
Havn't had a corrupted image/video or crash since i removed it, and in general its faster too.
I used at least 3 different sd cards in my phones.
First I used a 16GB card with no precise specifications and I don't remember if I had this problem of corrupted pictures with this card.
Then I bought a 32GB Samsung card with (in theory) a reading speed of 70MB/s and a writing speed of 20MB/s. I used this card in my 2nd and 3rd phone and I get corrupted pictures with it.
Currently I use a Lexar 64GB card with real speeds of 43MB/s in reading and 36MB/s in writing. I used this card in my 3rd and 4th (the S7) phone and obviously I get corrupted pictures with it.
Did you think that the Lexar's speeds are too low?
It's strange because I can shoot over 100 pictures in burst mode or 4k video without any problem.
Concerning internal storage, I bought the S7 in part because I want to save my datas in external storage. I want to be able to get my datas even if I crash my phone.
So I will not adopt internal saving as a solution.
You're not using an aftermarket flip case with a magnetic latch on it are you?

No I use a silicon case without magnet.
I just noticed that my Lexar 64GB card gives a reading speed of 41MB/s and a writing speed of 24MB/s when I use "A1 SD Bench" app. So my card seems slower in my phone than in my laptop benchmarck.
I don't think 24MB/s is realy too low but it is 10MB/s less than laptop benchmarck.

Of cause not, but to narrow the problem you have to know if it has something to do with ROM, camera, SD card, etc.
At least you can try! Maybe after checking the files aer ok, you can move them to SD card. That would be another test if SD card works in the device. Maybe the connection is partly broken?
