Help in here... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I am trying to perform the overclocking kernel mod to my phone.. have downloaded the zip file.. but my pc wont recongize my phone?
It does when I hook up with Kies, though..
When I plug my phone to the pc via usb.. nothing comes up.. Im trying to copy to files to my sd card...
Im I missing something, here?
* I have turned off debugging and am using Windows xp*

Have u installed the samsung driver? And when u plug in the usb an icon should apear asking you if you want to connect uab storage is that what u get? I actually just use dolphin browser and download roms and kernels with my phone so i dont have to move them from my pc to my phone
---------- Post added at 11:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:35 PM ----------
Also have u tried all of your usb ports? If none of them work have u tried a different usb cable? If that did not work id suggest delete your samsung usb driver reboot your pc reinstall reboot again then try
---------- Post added at 11:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:37 PM ----------
And i just flashed the overclock kernel earlier i got a quadrant score of over 4200 at 1.8ghz but my phone heated up really quickly and got very hot so i flashed the stock kernel back so be careful and if i go above 1.83ghz it shuts off my phone. Yours may handle it but dont be suprised if you have the same reasults

Hi.. when i plug it in it does say usb connected, but when I scroll down and hit "connect" and nothing happens..
I was thinking of only overclocking to around 1.78 or so.. I have installed the usb drivers from Samsung...
I will try some other things you mentioned..
Thank you for the heads up..
Is the Dolphin Browser easier to use? ... If so.. Im all for that!

In my oppinion yes. Its very easy. Its free on the market i use it for all my web browsing works like a pc web browser. Im on here on my phone now. I download all my files with the phone so i dont have to transfer between my pc and phone. If u download dolphin get on xda u can just download the overclock kernel right to it. In dolphin if u push menu dolphin settings data storage settings u can choose anywhere u want dolphin too save your files.

Okay.. I have downloaded the overclock and stock kernel on Dolphin..
Do I go to rom manager , next.. How do I get it to my sd card?
Thank you for all your help!!!

Open dolphin push menu then more then settings then data storage settings then download directory and change it too /sdcard/external_sd then go to xda on your phone and download the overclock kernel it wll download it to your sd card then turn off you phone and then hold volume up and volume down buttons and push the power button the release the power button it will boot into cwm recovery. Wipe your cache then choose install zip from sd card choose the overclock kernel you downloaded and flash it then select reboot system now

Well heck.... Dolphine browser is awesome, but it won't let me change the file name to /sdcard/external_sd? I'm a Powerlifter.. I have squatted 900lbs but this is killing me!..lol..
Okay.. changed the name.. went into recovery and found " install zip for sd card"
got that,.. now that next screen did not have.. "install zip from internal sd card" anywhere on the list?...
I don't think it downloaded...lol

Download it again
---------- Post added at 01:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:53 PM ----------
If its still not there change the download directory in dolphin too /sdcard then download it. Then boot into cwm choose install zip from sd card then the menu will change then select choose zip from internal sd card

I downloaded it many times.. changed the name of the file on Dolphin.. go into reboot and i navigate to install zip from sdcard" then go down to zip from internal sdcard and it has everything but that file in the list...
Does it automatically send it to the sdcard from once I download from Dolphin, or do I have to do it myself? ( manual)??

Yeah like i said if u open dolphin browser and click menu then more then settings and click download directory and change it too what i said it makes that the location it downloads all your fikes too. Andbit stays that way
.. if i was you id download astro file manager from the market its free open it and look around for the file when u see it click on it itll tell you the location it was saved too. Then just click on it and click copy and you can move the file by pasting it where ever you want. Im really not sure why ur not finding it. But if you have yahoo messenger i can get on there and talk u throught it easier if u need it.

Okay looks like I got it..lol... now to test it.... What is the best way?.. I am running a benchmark now... can I adjust the cpu?
You are awesome my friend!!!
Well.. something is alittle strange... ran benchmark before this and got 5783 @1512 mhz.. now I get [email protected] 1566 mhz... . it went up but not much? lol

Lol hey im sorry i told u wrong ignore all that lol it needs too be /mnt/sdcard/external_sd lol sorry tomd ya wrong forgot the mnt part make that ur download directory in dolphin
---------- Post added at 06:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:23 PM ----------
To adjust your cpu clock. Download the app called setcpu on the market open it and it allows you to change the min and max speed to over clock just change the max to higher then what it is. When you first open it click autodetect speed. Thenbyou can manually make it higher. A warning though dont check auto set on boot because if you get reboots and have it set on boot youll get very frustrated

Thats cool .I got it.. .. .... looks like it kicks me out of running benchmark at 1890.......
cpu test only goes from 1566 to 1890.. needs something inbetween...

benchmarks are completely worthless....does your phone FEEL fast?

Yes they are but he seemed pretty set on it soo.... i know i am happy with stock rooted rom pleanty fast enough for me. Haha my sgs2 was better but i like the bigger screen and lte. My womans evo 3d seems like a major step down in comparrison. Im content until we get our ics update

Yes Gameloft HD games work on our devices
to get it to work you will have to download the games+data via PC and then copy it your SD card (If you do it via phone it wont work)
Some game have issues others work fine

W0w thanks but 1.64 gb is a huge size are there any methods other than this i googled found the glzip method but it is not working
Dude don't download any HD you games you find on the net your just wasting your time if you download any HD games you find. If your going to download any HD games it must be in QVGA resolution. Try searching it on google ex. "HD QVGA games for android" or anything like that.
Tip: go to the websites that are related to blogspot.com. Well that's all good luck, happy gaming
Well i need the gameloft games any method on how to get those

just search for it and if you find it download the apk and data files (be sure it's QVGA before you download it) and follow the instructions on where you got the game that's all.

You can find some qvga gameloft game here
thanks i am on that website right now
Here is similar site

Dont forget to press thanks button if I helped you
Well Its not like that out of 1.64 gb you can select which game to download (haven't used torrent before?) and these games worked without any hassle the game data is equally important which in my view should be downloaded via PC

In order to OC your fit you will need clock work recovery mod (cwm) and Cyanogen mod ROM and installed in your fit. If you don't have them get them installed. You will get cwm from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339640
Follw the instructions given there to get cwm installed.
Then get the latest CM7 rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382461. Try the link for rc3 it's very stable.Install it in your fit by following the steps given there. In order to reboot to recovery you could just turn off your device. Then turn on by pressing home button and power button combination for a while.
Once installed you are ready to OC .
In order to have google apps (market, gmail etc) you will have to download and install them. The link for them is given there. Go to the link. Select the universal link for cm7. Download it and flash it.( Copy the zip file to SD card. Then reboot to recovery( just press power button and then tap reboot it will then show an option for recovery). In recovery select "install zip from sd card" and then "choose zip from sd card" and then select the zip that you copied for google apps. and press 'yes'. By the way, In order to select an option in recovery use volume up and down button and home button).
Get the OC kernel from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1333883 Use the 3rd link that is for OC upto 801MHz. Then flash it via cwm. Once the kernel is installed install no-frills cpu control app from market. (or you can get it from the link given by squadzone in his post right below the OC kernel mediafire link). Then use it to select your desired frequency.

It worked fine for me. You just have to follow the instructions laid down by the developers. You won't have to root your device . When installing CM7 you get your fit rooted automatically.
And it pays to be cautious. Just follow what the developers say in their posts. It's actually pretty easy. I have done these many times in my fit.

[Q] Way to reset SetCPU if you O/C too much?

So I O/C'd a bit too much before running a quadrant test and my phone crashed during the test. Upon reboot, phone lasts about 20 seconds before crashing again due to the settings being a bit too high for the processor, just like with quadrant. Is there a flashable .zip I can use to reset SetCPU rather than being in this endless booting process?
EDIT: I just let it sit and cool down for a few then unchecked set on boot when I made it back in so I'm fine for now, but a .zip file that I can use would be nice though if such a thing exists.
If it happens again wile dalvik and cache and flash the rom...sometimes that works.
Otherwise you can use adb
Or start from scratch
Or
Always create a nandroid beforehand...gives you a safe restore point
Sent from my SGH-I727 using XDA App
Yes always keep a nandroid backup. And never check set on boot in setcpu thats exactly what happens when u do and your clocked to high. Sounds like u need to wipe data factory reset in cwm.
---------- Post added at 08:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:01 PM ----------
Theres no zip file. Just dont ever check set on boot, and youll be fine homie
press menu>safe mode instructions>extract zip
that will create a cwm flashable zip file that will either enable or disable setcpu safe mode (safe mode just over rides your OC settings)....
Sweet! Good to know

you can boot into recovery and remove the setcpu application:

the number might be different to you'll have to ls first probably

out maybe the problem is that the usb drive is not bootable, if that is the case, maybe we need a usb iso, instead of just the files....
I think you can create a bootable usb via pc settings. then put the recovery files on the same usb. try that.
can you believe I am still downloading part 1 at 77kb per second? only 31% done and 3 parts to go. uploaded.net is not very good
have you managed to upload it anywhere else please arqueiro?
my upload rate is very very low, 100kb so will take a lot to upload it too, pm me and i send you my account name and password, since i buyed a premium accont just for this
Got it in dropbox, split into chunks, I'll upload it to a torrent later as well..

Got it sat in dropbox but it wants contact/email addresses for sharing it, I'll see if I can make it a public folder, not sure if thats a "pay" option or not tho, never really used DB for that before..
The Torrent option would require me to upload it to a site of some description which might be a bit dodgy as far as rules etc go this end..

[Q] LG P500 not booting up

I rooted my phone (Android 2.2.1) yesterday using superoneclick. The rooting process went through smoothly. After the phone was rooted, I installed setCPU. Then I installed root explorer and used that to delete some stock apps- various apps including 'LG Installer'. Phone was working fine till then.
I thought the phone response was slow, so I thought of rebooting and switched the power off and then on. Since then the phone refuses to boot up- I get the flashing android sign, and this goes on and on forever. I read somewhere that a hard reset might help- so I pressed the volume up key, home key and power button simultaneously- the phone then booted up in recovery mode, but the screen is blank and I cant see any icons/ apps etc.
Please help- how do I fix this? Did I set some wrong settings in setcpu accidentally, or did I delete some critical stockapp?
Thanks
Vishnu

first of all search for kdz updater and do an stock rom update and start all over again with new stock rom

I need to correct this. First of all.. its VOL DOWN you have to use. Hold HOME + VOL DOWN then power to be safe.
@vishnuagni
You shouldn't use apps like setCPU on stock roms with 'Stock Kernel'. Stock kernel dont support overclocking and other things.
You dont need to use kdz or other things.. hold home + vol down then power for few seconds.
If your phone has recovery.. it will enter recovery and you can flash any rom you like.
Or if you dont have recovery.. holding those buttons will hard reset your phone.
Never delete things in stock rom because it will be in odex format and you wont know which file to keep and which one to delete.

Thanks rroyy and grigtm
I realize that I have embarked on this process without understanding many things and gotten into trouble- I didnt realize that setCPU would not work with the stock kernel....Also based on various sites, I had understood that rooting allows one to delete stock apps one doesnt want and will also help to create space. In fact, there was a page describing how to use root explorer to delete stock apps- and I followed that. Didnt realize that some critical files may get deleted....anyways....
When I press the volume down + home + power button, the image of an arrow coming out of a box with the android below appears (I guess this indicates recovery mode), and the phone finally boots up- but doesnt show any apps etc. (as I mentioned earlier).
So do I need to get a new rom now by following the steps in one of the links grigtm has shared? Mine is an Indian version- was running 2.2.1...the steps look complex- I guess I will have to very careful...not sure what an nv is...
Thanks

No need to be sorry mate.. let it be vol up/down.. its fine if you are able to enter recovery!!
@vishnuagni
That arrow out of box is Reset in progress.
You might have deleted LG UI launcher. Try if you could open settings.. use menu button (extreme left hard key). If that works.. connect your phone to data or wifi. Add your account. Tgen open play store in PC.. login and install any launcher.
After that is done.. press home button and select that launcher as default.
Or
Connect your phone to pc and use ADB to push a launcher in /system.
Read.. how to use adb.
If all these look difficult.. get it updated from service centre.

@vishnuagni

Thanks grigtm for your tips.
Thanks rroyy- I think what you are saying about having deleted the launcher is very likely correct. I get the message after the phone resets- the application com.android.lgsetupwizard (process com.android.lgsetupwizard) has stopped unexpectedly. please try again.
I couldnt get into settings by pressing the menu key (nothing happened).
I am now trying to set up adk....hope that it works- will keep posted. Thanks again- has been very useful

By the way, I am able to copy files between my pc and the phone. So would it be possible to simply copy the needed files for the launcher into the correct directory on the phone to make things work?
Just try and let us know if it works.. dont know if dex app wil work on stock rom.
Later download and extract LGsetupwizard which you deleted. There are stock Zip roms in this forum.
Kdz would be risky but simple.
And next time remember to make a nandroid backup before experimenting!!

Also- any way to restore deleted files through the pc connection? Could that solve the problem? Havent managed to install adb properly yet- getting stuck after installing android sdk at the step of installing platform tools....
you can try to copy launcher app from an downloaded rom into your phone system, but you need to use adb, directly from pc cannot copy anything in phone memory, just in sd card, you need write rights to system
download any rom, open zip and navigate to system/app folder and extract the "launcher" .apk whatever launcher is there if you recognize it by name, I use dinamiterom and the launcher is TREBUCHET.APK
by the way, for data from pc-->phone I use an app named SwiFTP and copy/paste files through wifi and first time I used this it has shown me phone memory folders but it was only then, now it shows only sd card, this app is an wifi FTP server very simple to use
one question?can you access status bar if you swipe down? ?can you access system settings by pressing menu physical key? ?what ROM have you in that phone?

Thanks
Vishnu

Try learning about KDZ, is dangerous to play around it without knowledge but if you learn it up, it can help you to fix some (not all) of the bricked phone situation:

Simple tut for cwm

Okay first ima start off by saying the obvious I'm nor responsible for your phone or the actions you take with it nor will I ever be you want it rooted? You want cwm working? YOU want the roms? Then it YOU are the one who is responsible
On that note you can odin if something goes wrong an is a good thing to have such files on your computer just in case
Time for the tut c:
Root
Download cwm via sidekick android development sticky(can do this with phone)
File explorer (root browser)
Now make a copy an put in different folder
Extract the copy to same location
(Should be a recovery file) now move that file to /system/bin (to get to this folder you must have root an you must go as far back as you can as sd card is a sub folder in the phone)
After that you want to
Go to original cwm file
Rename to" update.zip "
Move to the sd cards main folder " / "
Now reboot phone
Reboot into recovery
Reinstall packages
Wellcome to orange cwm
From here to custom roms
Download rom you desire to use
Put in findable location on sd card
Go into recovery
Reinstall packages
Wipe everything an wipe everything in advance menu
No go to mounts
(Mounts) only need to unmount system!! For mostly every rom if you don't your phone will mess up
System unmounted
Now after mounts are in looking like that
Back out an go to install zip
install zip from sd card
Find the rom you chosen to install
Click it
Wait for it to finish then press back button
(I check mounts again because of habit)
Reboot phone
DON'T TOUCH IT... LISTEN TO THE VOICE
Don't touch for about 5-10 mins if they system mounted via voice
Will include my files in a bit

I had A LOT of trouble flashing but fortunately they are all fixed.
So far, I have glorious overdose installed. Know of any other good ones?
