nice.if run like in video that is so cool.

I saw a few photos where you couldn't tell the difference. The only photos I've seen where I can tell the difference are the ones from Sony. Still nice to have something like this though

Compared a video on my HTC Desire S vs an Xperia Arc awhile ago, never saw any real difference.
Thanks though! Might give it a whirl sometime.

Just installed. Took some photos and a video. Seems a little bit better but cannot tell for sure. Anyway nice to have. Thanks

Probably the reality is exactly this...

Since this is a Sony function, lets' add this to CyanUX

I wonder what can do to our phone two files (1 Kb each), in order to improve the quality so much. I'm a little bit skeptic on this. Is there any "technical" explanation of what it does? These 2 files are the "Bravia Engine"?
More than that, you can see the difference only on the phone's screen. That is, to compare something, you should watch a photo or film, remember all the details, then put the files from the patch and watch same photo/film again and tell the difference. I doubt someone has such a good visual memory to tell subtle differences after closing, rebooting and so on. Another way to see a difference could be to have 2 identical phones and simultaneously run same movie on both
Being a post-processing thing, nothing is improved in the way the photos or movies are made by the phone, only how they look like on the screen.

this downgraded my phone!!! not as in image quality but as in since i've done this my phone keeps turning off. I'm running CM7. Might just be me but i decided to take it off.

Hello all,
Can someone takes screen shots before and after the mod to see the differences ? (from the mobile)

I'm pretty sure BE will only work on your phone. It doesn't change the picture itself in anyway. So to tell the difference you'll have to install it

It is written in the previous posts...you can try to make print screens when viewing a photo in gallery, before and after applying the patch and check the differences. That is if you don't have 2 identical phones to compare side by side

that wouldnt help at all cause as i understand it bravia improves the quality within the device so ..the screenshot taken before will also be bravia engined after the flashing of this engine .. so without having two identical phone(see if a friend has one) its impossible!

dont think its working for me

Hi
i modified SenseMe flashable zip to be compatible with Endymion 2.2.
The image quality was slightly better than the original so you can feel that something is different/better but not too different. Desire S has a beautiful image itself.
As i tested it for some time and done some performance tests i realized that there is massive performance degradation in 3D applications. FPS is almost halved(Quadrant).
In Quadrant Standard, where Endymion gets 2200 points(no OC), with bravia engine it was around 1700 mostly. This performance degradation is not noticeable in everyday use and normal interaction with phone, so only 3D applications are as far as i know affected. So i decided to restore my nandroid backup without Bravia Engine and the performance is back as it was( Lightning fast ).
Didn't test the battery performance so i don't know if the engine itself is not draining the battery more. You have to test, but battery run-time is always very relative in Android
So definetly i recommend you to try this out but be sure to nandroid back up to have a chance to return(didn't try to remove the files and remove modifications to the buildprop).
Thanks to dev for bringing this technology on our device.
Cheers

No batt drain for me,anyway, this is only an improvement for photos and videos.how can this slow down the phone?
I think 3D games don t use it
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App

Hi,
don't know why there is such performance degradation.
As i said i flashed only Bravia and went through tests. If there's no change in usability i would have it till today.

hmmm.... I don't see any improvements...

Placebo effect anyone?

[MOD] 480x320 Recording for CM6 ROMs

This is a cross post from my mau5 ROM thread, but I think other people might enjoy it too.
I've put together an update.zip that allows for 480x320 recording via camcorder. Currently, our device only allows 352x288(high quality), this simple hack just allows a greater resolution and I think a clearer picture IMO.
I've set 352x288 as the default "low" quality and 480x320 as the default "high" res recording so that you do have a choice whenever you want. I've also changed the file format to mp4 instead of 3gp since well.. no one uses 3gp for anything.
There are few drawbacks though. 480x320 is the last somewhat "stable" res where the OMX core won't **** bricks all over the place so be weary of any force closes. Also, gralloc likes to crap out when switching resolutions on the fly along with being unable to view the 480x320 video in the gallery app (since we have such bad gfx power).
I do plan on making this STABLE at one point, but it'll require kanging some memory for gralloc to use while changing resolution.
You can check for yourself on the differences with a 352x288 recording and a 480x320 recording
(low light vs direct light)
You can see an example of a video I shot last night at a xmas party HERE to see 480x320 when it comes to more 'motion' recording. (Warning: White people dancing)

Not sure. Nandroid and find out
Why is the video quality in the CM/AOSP ROMS so bad? I know you said the 480x320 is better, but looking at both of your vides, while hte content was not fun (white people dancing never is) the quality is just unwatchable.
Just curious because on the HTC ROMs it is at least somewhat decent.
Not crapping on what you're doing here Dec, but just trying to understand what you're dealing with.

I get bored. You can only push the framerate so high on either quality, and the hero itself has never had that good of recording capabilities.
The htc roms are 'decent' looking because their encoding is handled better and optimized for the proprietary omx libraries which we have no source too

Hay decad I'm on asop and flash this the only thing I see so far is that after taking video it fc no big deal. When I got to video info it shows mpg4 for mat like it should. I think. If I go to video setting it show some thing different and can't change it. So it works for the most important part the video. Zoom works too

WISHLIST to the DEVS

Hello guys... had my Sensation for almost 2months now, but most of the time just in my drawer coz i also have S2...
after i knew about the progress of S-off, i did it on my Sensation...
ok, im spoil with lots of custom ROM of S2 and numbers of Kernels to choose from... though S2's board is a bit messy because of "politics" among devs/mods/admins...
I understand that we only have S-off for a short time (compared to S2) thats why mods/tweaks/etc isnt as much as S2... im considering using Sensation as my main phone now, S2 have to rest
Here's what i want to see in the future:
1. Better battery management - i dont know about 2.3.3 builds because started mine with 2.3.4 ("Insertcoin" specifically)... im approaching to 30hrs of my moderate-heavy usage on my S2 (You can check Batista's latest build with Ninpehtamine 2.0.2 Kernel)... I know the fact that the display takes most of our battery and its S2's SAMOLED+ forte specially when its dsplaying most of the UI in black... so im not expecting it to be in line with S2, but we can optimizr the whole system to be more efficient... I want also to be able to Underclock and Undervolt the CPU like what i did with S2, though there are ways through Daemon, but i want it with graphical interface like that of Set-cpu...
2. Make use of the Internals - So we have 1.2Ghz Dual Core cpu (old architecture) + Adreno 220... its powerful and more than enough, though not as beastly as Exynos+Mali combo... i dont know if its possible but the Devs here are able to force GPU for handling the UI (thats what i read), why not push the bounderies and make it able to assisst the browser and the video player (stock or thirdparty)... I dig some infos that Sensation also do also pack descent Audio chips (Wolfson-but not the variant we found on Tab and S1), why not make a mods to make most of its potential... (Hello Supercurio) I know we have some progress on camera specially on videos, keep it up guys...
3. Software/Misc - How about an Odex system? (for quicker initial bootups of custom ROMs, less memory consumed, less storage used in /data due to the fact that pre-optimised dex files are stored on /system already [save space and boost performance]).. De-odex is just useful for themeing, but hell we have the Beautiful SENSE...
how about Phone.apk with voice recorder embeded to record the conversation? Mods to make the volume Key as a shutter in camera app? and etc?
Is this Thread serious? Guy you call for features that need time to develope and the Dev´s are on it. Like using the GPU in browser.
deodexing is not only for theming! Go on reading!
go back to s2 guy..... I dont want anything to be like this plastic ****! Software or Hardware!
we have more pixels that need lights so battery consumption CANT be the same!!
And who told you that the Hardware in the S2 is better? The Snapdragon chipset´s are better! Go on reading before anoying us with **** like this!
Go to S2 forum´s and cry there!
Ps. Mod close this please... we are loosing DEV´s with stupid threads like that!

I think the Sensation can be way better if devs:
-Put back scrolling wallpapers so we can use 1080x960 wallpapers, and don't tell me they can't unlock it, it's easier than all the mods they did on Rosie
-Boost volume like they did on N1 by kernels, volume+ wont help

+1.... Sound output is good enough for me (IMO)... what i want is to lessen the too much mid-bass hump on the sensation... what headphone are you using?
Some of your requests are already granted. Oc Daemon Controller being one. Do a little research.
Also, it's SGS2.
All we need is a sound tweak if u want scrolling wallpaper download another launcher most of the people I know don't use the default anyway. Sound seems to be the main issue that hasn't been resolved with any rom

Well, i love HTC's sense but sometimes i get bored with it.. i always have ADWex on mine, use Home switcher if boredom gets in... i
Scrollable Wallpaper = Launcher Pro Plus, Dunno why you'd want to switch back to Rosie though. Get beautiful widgets + Animation package from the market if you really miss having windshield wipers eat your battery when it's raining and all those other animations. And it's already been mentioned that most of the things on your wishlist already exist.
If you want better sound you should write HTC and ask them to send you a pair of BEATZ audio headphones, it should be covered under warranty now amiright!? =P
JK but SRS BZNS but some ROMS actually do have external speaker volume boosted, and whilst volume plus has been reported as a battery drainer, or a legit solution or some combination of both by others, there are some DSP packs and at least music players (like Player Pro) who's extended EQ settings come with a Pre-Amp that does a pretty good job if you have half-way decent headphones.
Also, you might want to just edit the gain of your MP3's to normalize them around 89 decibels or higher if you prefer.
What's on my wish-list you say? Support the devs monetarily and thank them for their hard work, methinks it goes further than these threads can.

I compared the code of the One S and X cameras and it was 99% the same. I have added the few code changes and also some images had to be resized for the One S.
40/30/20 Mbps are now selectable from the settings menu of the camera.
Image Non Forced and Forced 100% is the same.
Video Auto mode = 30 Mbps
Image Quality non forced = 100%
UPDATE 05/09 :
V2.3 ( For roms with 2.31 base, eg ViperOneS 1.1 )
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* Added optional Volume+Up Camera Shutter ( in Camera app only. Normal functionality when not using Camera )
* Fixed JPEG 100 bug. Thanks abo_mara7
* All in one installer. Choose from
Quick test I did. I zoomed in on my monitor and took some video, these are two screenshots from the stock camera and 40mbps. Tried to keep the zoom level the same to make it a fair test.

You got it.
you'll need camera.apk modding to remove caps (but it's very simple)
media_profiles is not used at all, so video bitrate will be 10mbps with this mod.
i was trying to hack some camera libs to have higher res on slow motion recording before release. I got some problems and only 800x480 is working at 4X recording, it's almost impossible to debug *.so libs, if someone can help me i'll be happy to learn (i can do 2x slow motion recording but 720p is not working like HTC Sensation, only 800x480 at 4X)

I don't pretend to know what I'm talking about, but trying the 40 mod gave me a bit rate of 39Mbps so I'm guessing you're mistaken. Tried the twenty but still had 13Mbps (same as 'stock')
The 40 only recorded for 11 seconds then froze. The file still saved though.

Wow, this sounds exciting. I was a bit let down when they did a match up between the Galaxy S III and the One S/One X video recording comparison. The One series video seems noticeably inferior and exhibit what seems to be some choppiness. Hopefully this mod will make the One S bar none the best camera phone (well pure view and N9 will still be better). Now my other grip with the One series camera is the overuse of filtering like sharpness and over saturation. Hopefully there will be a mod to solve that issue.

Just tested 20Mbps and getting around 19. I think it depends whats in the scene, if you tax it enough and shake the camera I think you will get 20.
Stock I think 10Mbps is the limit.
good news then! i found bitrate values hardcoded in camera.apk too so i was thinking that they was capping media_profiles
What about higher bitrates on 720p? The video would be smaller and the 1s just has a qHD screen, so 1080p is useless, unless you watch them on a FullHD TV.
This is a great mod though!
is this for Sense or Vanilla Roms? or should it work on both of them?
This should work with no issues coming off a fresh wipe right?

[MOD] HTC One 1080p Front Camera Video Recording (for AOSP ROMs)

This is very similar to my hugely popular mod for the Nexus 7 that I did. I did this because it seems CM on the One doesn't support 720p or 1080p, so maybe some vloggers or people who like to take videos of themselves (vain people?) would enjoy this very simple modification.
I got 1080p video recording working on my One under CM and felt you guys should know about this too. It's a simple fix as it's not a limitation of hardware or a kernel function or anything, rather for some reason HTC is using a weird way to enable 1080p in the stock firmware that doesn't carry over to CM. They aren't using the media_profiles.xml. This mod includes 1080p recording for the front camera, as well as some alterations to the bitrate of the audio and video to give it slightly better quality in the output videos. You won't really notice it unless you're really trying, but it's little things that all add up to give a better experience.
This is NOT needed under stock ROMs
Somehow, HTC have made their camera application NOT need to read the media_profiles.xml, and as a result the stock ROM does not need this modification. Only CM based ROMs need this. I don't know if it's needed under the Google Edition firmware or not. You'll have to let me know.
How To Install
Download the zip (M7-1080p-Camera-for-CM)
Reboot to recovery
Install
Reboot to Android
???
PROFIT!
The Mod
It's the same deal as on the Nexus 7: simply use my attached pre-modified file and push it to /system/etc/media_profiles.xml. I expect the permissions will be 644.
How It Works
I had to explain this on the Nexus 7, so I'll explain it again. The hardware already supports this functionality as the camera itself just sends RAW information to the processor, and then based on the settings the processor is given by Android, the processor encodes it in the format it's been told to, for example for the rear camera it would be told to record 1920x1080 @ a certain bitrate to H.264. The processor itself doesn't tell Android what the hardware is capable of (and considering the Snapdragon 600s enormous video encoder capabilities, they're very high), Android is told what it can do by the file media_profiles.xml.
No this will not improve video quality in Skype/Hangouts/whatever other thing you want to do, this will only work for video recording applications.
Download Link
Check the attachments below. There are two files: media_profiles and M7-1080p-Camera-for-CM - media_profiles is JUST the XML file, and M7-1080p-Camera-for-CM is the installer for CWM/TWRP. Most users will want that. Just install it from in CM.
Video For Your Delectation

Interesting. It appears to work in the stock firmware, but not on CM, but even in the stock firmware it doesn't have the 1080p media profiles. I'm guessing HTC are doing something sneaky to make it work. Well this mod still works for CM nonetheless. Guess I need to add this to CM like I did with the N7. Of course the purpose of this mod is slightly killed by the front camera working like *** on CM.
Good to know though.
Seeing this mod is rather pointless on the stock ROMs, I will make it useful and max out the encoder capabilities. Be back in an hour when I find the full abilities of the Snapdragon 600s video encoder.
EDIT: Updated first post to now include my updated media_profiles.xml for 1080p front camera recording and increased bitrate video and audio.
Just realised why CM doesn't do 1080p for the front camera. They use a common media_profiles.xml for ALL MSM8960 HTC devices.. which means older crappier phones have the same profile. Effectively, this limits CM on the One a lot. Lemme relearn how to make a commit to CM so I can add this into their repo.
Does this get rid of the green hue in the front camera too in CM?

Unfortunately not. I'm not sure what causes that, but I want to look into it because it's really odd it only happens to the front camera. I suspect the sensor has a weird colour profile that isn't being set up right? Could be wrong.

In my case, that green hue is related to light surrounding (I ain't sure what's the term for it, but it's that sun/cloudy/AW/bulb thingy in camera settings circle).

Yeah I find it changes depending on the lighting as well.
Glad to see you over here

Port Xperia Z4 camera

I found this post:www.xda-developers.com/xda-external-link/how-to-port-fully-featured-sony-xperia-z4-camera/
However I'm just a flash junky and can't be sure I will be able to do this without messing up something, but it seems easy enough for anyone with a little code-knowledge.
So if anyone has any spare time, maybe you can get around to porting this. I for one, would love this on my G2.
Me too, but I think it needs to be incorporated in the ROM you're flashing instead of just flashing a zip through TWRP like you would normally do. I don't know how to do that..
Jishnu Sur porting it but as I know just for AOSP based roms.
it needs framework.jar editing which is different in every AOSP, CM Roms
Well,if somebody could do it for the official CM12.1 nightlies, and update it frequently,it would be awesome.
There is a guide to port the Xperia SystemUI/Lockscreen to CM12.1 too.
Official CM12.1 would be a good core, since it has the biggest probability of working with guides(with the fact that it's framework isn't filled with as much junk as the one in other ROMs).
We have the Xperia Z4 CM12.1 themes, the Xperia Z3+/Z4 Launcher, the Clock Widget, the Media Apps, the Xperia Keyboard. With the SystemUI and Camera,we could have a pretty good Debrand ROM.

This would actually be really awesome I'm a huge fan of AOSP roms, but they all lack a good camera app, since we cant port our LG G2 camera to aosp(the one port that currently is ported to aosp has to much bugs), this would be an awesome port/app for aosp roms so pleaserr devs, or anyone who knows how to do port please make it happen....
Thanks in advance

Not sure what bugs you have with it. Been using it for months without a single issue. Mind you I dont touch CM roms just AOSP based roms like Slim and DU
out of curiousity, i ported it to my current ROM Dirty Unicorns.v9.5
played with it a little.
Sweep Panorama gives you Error,
Creative Effect not working (you cant click or shoot or record)
FC on Main Camera App, the solution is to Run it via Widget.
@xperiaz2
i'm just curious inside the original updater script which is to set permission to "display_color_calib" in /system/bin that nowhere to be found in the flashable Z4CamPort.zip and i double check my D.U Rom.v9.5 /system/bin its not there too.

that image is not good for judging the photo quality...
1. it's too small, and probabbly compressed when uploaded on xda
2. it doesn't have much detail to judge color/sharpness/contrast quality
suggestion:
1. put a full resolution image somewhere and share a link here
2. take a few pictures of several lighting situations inside and outside the house with prefferably more details apart a power bank and nestle chuckie - so people can see how it works in real life... and also put the link to full res pics here...
thanks in advance...
Well,I tried to port the camera to CM12.1 nightly 12.8.2015. .
The thing is that I had to backsmali and smali the classes2.dex file as if it was classes.dex .
Although I was told to use the Backsmali-Smali Manager,I didn't know how to make it even recognize the .dex files,as it would only recognize framework.jar files.
So,I did it with the ApkTool. But I guess it was made for parts of the lower Android OS versions, and after backsmaling, editing, recompiling framework.jar, moving it back into system/framework and fixing permissions, the phone entered a boot loop.
Any suggestion on how to make Smali-Backsmali Manager recognize .dex files?
