Text free really free?? - Samsung Infuse 4G

So just wondering if text free is really free. To text anyone. On any number. On any network. With any phone? There isn't a catch. And I could just go to [email protected] and cancel my unlimited texting? Ya know since this claims to be " free "
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium

I'm pretty sure all the texting and IM messenging apps use your standard messaging charges. It just works differently. Like over data.

Yes, it's free. It uses data and wifi to send then. It's unreliable at times though. I used to use it on my iPhone 2G.

Just tested it for you with my old login. Works much better than it did on iPhone.

that was a contradiction. if it uses data, then normal text charges wont apply. but to answer the Q, yes its free, but data charges will apply, unless you have unlimited data or youre on wifi. i use it on my xtra inspire thats without sim card

so if you got unlimited data then you wouldn't have to pay 20 extra dollars a month for texting because u have unlimited data... but anyway at&t doesn't have unlimited data plans for smart phones.. :// just for non smart phones.

It won't use much data. A 4 gb plan should suffice if you text a bunch.

I would recommend a 200 MB plan to start with if you do NOT use streaming media, and use wifi to update market apps. For plain emails and texts, I do not see usage crossing 100-150 MB a month.

I dont pay any monthly service fee, I pay for my plan which is 79.99+ tax. I get no service at my house so I'm always connected to wifi. Doesn't cost anything extra, doesn't use my monthly plan minutes. So what does this app do that is so special/different than the stock app. I wont be losing any sleep either. WORD.

Nope...once you go to SM you are free of T-Mo. However, if you use Wifi calling or other T-Mo branded items you will not be able to use them on SM.
I did have a data loss last week with Simple here in Sacramento. They had tower issues. But nothing else of consequence.
One issue that I have had. On virtually every ROM is editing the APN. YOu can usually edit it once, but when you go back in often the APN's do not show up. Food for thought.
Lol. Hmm thank God. I'm going to get sm tomorrow. Thank you very much.

Actually you can and do get 4g depending on where you are located. I am in Sacramento and get 4g speeds on SM.
Your plan also has to do with speeds. If yo are on the $40.00 plan yes, you are restricted to 3g. If you pay $60.00 then you get 4G.
And no you do not have to unlock for SM.
They do offer a $60/month plan that has 4G. As usual the giant word plastered all over their website and retailers is "unlimited" - which, as we all know, is a load of crap. Yes it's "unlimited internet" - however you get 1gig at 4G - then the rest of the month you're throttled to a whopping 56k (so useless you can't even stream a song with it).
As for the disappearing APN problem - if you run the CM7 ROM, and you're APN's are not in there - all you have to do is pull the battery out, restart the phone, and the APN's are back in. Also as pointed out the specialized apps for t-mobile like the wifi calling app won't work.
Anyway - all that being said - I've been on Simple with my G2X for 3 months and it works quite well for me. Only wish they offered more data in the plans - so I try to stay connected to a wifi hotspot as much as possible.
I thought there flyer says 2gigs of data hahaha on the 60 dollar
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Yes you do have to be unlocked on simple mobile. You cannot use a simple mobile sim in a locked phone. You also get 2gigs of data on the $60 plan and 4g if available in your area.

ok... well all custom roms have wireless hotspot baked into them which allows up to 5 devices to access your 3g/4g data connection. Best thing about the hotspot feature is that it won't use up your data plan since your rooted and it's usually a paid service you have to buy when your not rooted. However if your just tethering by a usb cable you would be throttled after your 2gb limit.
Have you enabled wireless hotspot in setting's before it will work as long as you have an active data plan.

Yep, only the built-in tethering feature uses up your 2-5gb data plan, i read about the wireless hotspot not eating up any data while in use somewhere. I'm gonna try and find a link real quick for my source since i know it will come up sooner then later lol

Powered by a G2x
I haven't reached my 5g cap yet. It stopped me when I hit 4g of data. I'm still fast but just no tethering is being allowed.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
You could use an app called easy tether that has a one time fee of $10 if not your stuck with limited free version. This tricks the ADB interface so it doesn't show up as tethered so it will only show up as regular data from your phone not a PC.
Also if your using tmo network there is no way around their tracking and throttling of speed. A while back we could get around data throttling but i believe they caught on. If you running into hitting your cap use 3g watchdog and give yourself a daily limit and the app will alert you that you hit it
Remember when your on a pc it doesn't know your on a mobile network so keep youtube quality at its lowest. If your watching youtube at 720p you will hit your cap easily.
If your using netflix you will hit tour 5g cap in about 3movies at 720p.
Now the trick is is getting wireless tethering to work lol

[Q] Best alternative for text messaging?

We're currently paying $30 a month for unlimited text messaging, but pretty soon everyone in the family is going to have a smartphone. Once everyone is upgrade, we're planning on taking out the texting plan. What are some of the best alternatives for text messaging that also keeps my phone number? The only one I found on the Internet was WhatsApp and Google Voice, and I was wondering if I was missing any. I'd also appreciate it if you could tell me the pros and cons of each. Thank you ^^
U can try we chat

Not sure how you feel about it but I lowered my bill almost 50 bucks by going to the family shared plan. We have 5 smart phones so it made sense for us. Unlimited texting is included.

Gosms has a go chat option. Looks like a text message but goes over the WiFi or network I believe. No sure if the recipient needs to use it too though. Also there's like a million themes for it.

Best part is you can only hand out your Google voice number and have it ring to your cell phone so no one has your real number. You can change it anytime you want

Yup. Unlimited doesn't exist anymore. When you upgrade you'll automatically be dropped down to a 2GB plan unless you specify a higher capacity.
I've heard rumors that unlimited will be back someday but Verizon has to beef up their infrastructure first. It'll be a while.

We have three people on a 10GB shared plan, and we average around 6GB of use in a normal month. We love having that 4GB buffer though, because we travel every few months and always use a lot more data when we are traveling.
This is why I refuse to use my update. Last month I used 44 gb. Mostly because I tether at work the entire time. Most I've ever used was 61 gb. Not sure if I could live without unlimited.
I have unlimited data and a unlimited tether plan also not giving it up.
Id rather pay full price for a phone.
