Chinese Sensation - HTC Sensation

Hey there
I know I've been inactive on XDA for a while, I'm sorry for that
My Sensation has been stolen a while ago and I wasn't able to get it at all, so I'm planning of getting a new one. I live in Egypt and not planning of buying one from here at all.
I'm currently planning of getting an HTC Sensation XE, what you guys think about it? Or should I wait for the Sensation XL?
For now, I have a friend traveling to China, so maybe he'll buy it from there, is it a bad idea? What Software Versions come on Chinese Sensations?
About the price, will it be cheaper in China or USA?
Thanks a lot guys

I currently live in China and got my sensation here 2 weeks ago. I don't think there's an official Chinese version of Sensation. All I've seen here are black market handsets (I might be wrong though).
But what I'm certain is that most of the Sensation sold here is European version. They rooted the phone and replaced the ROM with those found in Hongkong or Taiwan version of the Sensation (so they can change the main language to Chinese).
When I purchased mine, I was offered that kind of handset for 2900CNY (without the memory card though, I even doubt the phone IMEI matches the box IMEI). There's also another set (Hongkong version) which is brand new, unrooted, still wrapped in original plastic packaging, and carried 8gb TF card). They do not need to do anything to this phone because it's Hongkong version, it supports Chinese by deafault. After some bargaining I managed to get it at 3130CNY.
230CNY difference, but if you minus the 8gb TF card (goes for around 100CNY), the difference is only about 130 CNY. But I feel much safer with the brand new handset. And so far I had no complaint at all.
Hope this helps

as a chinese, i wanna tell you that most htc phones' users in Mainland China are not using phones that should be sold in chinese mainland(most use phones that should be sold in HongKong and Taiwan, and my sensation should be sold in singapore), although we just buy them in mainland china. so our phones are not legal and have no guarantee. so don't buy cell phone in mainland china, obviously HK, TW, USA, or any other contries are better choices.
sorry for my bad english, i hope my reply can help you.

I was offered 欧版 which I assume is European version?? 港版 and 亚太版 are slightly more expensive..

Actually its more important to find a sim-free phone rather than what country its origins. Cos the roms can still be flashed but if you land with a sim-locked phone, it won't be easy for you.

yeah 欧版 is european version.
港版 and 亚太版 are more expensive just because they support chinese as original language

Thanks a lot guys!
Seems like a big deal buying it from china as I prefer buying one legally and still in the box..
So, seems like I'm buying an XE from Dubai What you think about this phone?
Any recommendations? Should I go for another phone instead? what you guys think?
Thanks again everybody

I don't mind buying a sim-locked phone, I can manage it
I just need to find the right place to buy it from hahaha

I bought a HTC Sensation in the Netherlands and it seemed to be a imported united kingdom model and there was no Dutch neither Chinese in the list off languages.
However that was easy solved. You just need to download an app from the Market called MoreLocale 2
Because it seems in fact the language is there, but you can just not select it via the settings and need this app, as far as I saw it worked perfect because the HTC Sensation is not setup in Chinese.

Thank you
I don't understand Chinese, I was just scared to buy a Sensation from China and to find it fake or without warranty..
I just didn't want to find myself with a Stock Chinese Rom, as I like using Stock Rom for the first week or two then start using Custom Roms..

Inspire 4G is it made in Taiwan or China ?

Hi Guys just want to know is this Htc Inspire 4G is made in Taiwan or China? I tried to Google but cant find anything not even a clear close up picture of the batt cover removed where it says the made in . So can anyone confirm where this is Made in i will really appreciate it. The reason im asking is because i had very bad experience with the HTC HD2 from Tmobile which was made in China and then at the same time i was having Non Tmobile HD2 and its was perfect because was made in Taiwan.
The box says it's made in Taiwan.
Thanks and what does the phone says ?

Wouldn't the phone be made in the same place that the box says it's made in? The battery might be made in China, but I think if the box says it's made in Taiwan, it is talking about the phone.
Actually, I'd be interested to find out if other people see the same discrepancies between phones made in different places, but most people don't really bother checking the country of origin, unfortunately.
Well, I believe most phone are being made in China already. HTC just every other phone maker have factory in China, usually in the southern China area where they make the phone. IPHONE is made by Foxconn which the factory is located in China. The company is famous to run sweat shop down there.

Actually, HTC has a lot of phones not made in China.
This HTC Thunderbolt is made in Taiwan, as evidenced in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LraU4akIokU#t=0m33s
You might have to use 720p to read the packaging.
Similarly, this HTC Evo 4G is made in Taiwan.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83AtENRX1Fs#t=0m14s
This video below shows that this guy's Inspire 4G is made in Taiwan.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQXonzSKMJw#t=0m20s
It's the sticker on the box on the bottom right. It goes by very fast.
My own HTC Aria is also made in Taiwan.
Personally, I've never seen an iPhone that's not made in China, but if this is something that's important to you, then I would suggest looking at HTC. I know HTC makes some of their phones in China, as well, but I'm pretty sure they have their own factories in Taiwan, as well, since so many of their phones are made in Taiwan.
Guess different places have different assembly lines. I think the 4G phones might be currently made in Taiwan.

[Q] Will uk vodafone be locked?

Ie Could I buy sim free and put O2 sim in it??
You won't be able to buy simfree from Vodafone, but once it's out at places like Amazon, you will be able too put any SIM card in you want, yes.
It won't be sim locked. they say none of their phones are.
I thought all of Vodafone's devices were locked. Great news if it's unlocked.
I bought my HD2 directly from the Vodafone UK website about 18 months ago and it's unlocked.
But my DHD is locked to t-mobile
Vodafone haven't locked Contract phones for years now. PAYG however...
I ordered mine from Vodafone today, are we expecting this to be a standard version or a Vodafone infected version.
Vodafone rom, with their super fast update schedule- not. Without doubt.
Thanks for reminding me on that one. Im definately waiting till when I return from honeymoon in mid june. If I buy it, definately getting it sim free with maybe a 3 mobile ayce sim. Vodafone lag way behind official updates.

Given the speed it's coming out, I kind of expect a stock ROM.

Having said that mate, Vodafone have an EU release clause with HTC, so when an update goes live in the EU, it goes live in the UK too. Not like other carries. Vodafone got the official GB release before anyone else on the DHD

I'm also betting on them sticking to stock ROM to get the initial batch out as early as possible.
Even if it's a branded ROM I won't mind too much as Vodafone have recently been getting HTC ROM updates out before unbranded updates (as crazy as that sounds) and their bloatware seems to be reduced as of late too.

Silly question perhaps, but even if the vodafone handset is unlocked, will we still have to wait for vodafone to release updates or will we get them straight from HTC?

With the Desire, it had to come from Vodafone unless you debrand it and flash a WWE RUU via Goldcard. The initial batch were unbranded though. There was much noise made when Vodafone delayed the Froyo update and initially released firmware which had a branded splash screen and various other useless bits and pieces (eg links to dating services, Vodafone Live, etc etc). It was then retracted and an unbranded Froyo was subsequently released. This whole fiasco was even reported on TechRadar UK
I think Vodafone pay monthly phones are all unlocked. It says so on their website. If I remember correctly, their phones did used to be locked but you could request an unlock code once your contract was up (or I think pay a small fee). The only exception was the Blackberry Storm, but let's not reopen old wounds I think I threw mine hard into a brick wall

Europe WWE vs Asia WWE

Hello!
Maybe it's a stupid question.
Official sales of Sensation did not start yet here in Ukraine, but you know, I just can not wait. I can buy gray imported Europe WWE (401) or Asian WWE (707) (I also have seen 701 CID, do not know what it is?).
The question is, if I purchase Asia WWE device, will I have problems? Looks like it have different radio versions.
Main question is: Will I be able to flash it with Europe WWE after we will get unlocked bootloader, or it may have incompatible hardware?
Current operation frequencies is not a problem, my carrier does not have 3G, I'll be using EDGE connection.
Asian ROM won't have European locales so unless you wanna use English I'd get the European handset
I plan to use English interface (it just looks better than cyrillic).
Interesting thing, device with 701 CID had Russian locale as well. I assumed, that 701 is Asian too, but I may be wrong. I did not find on XDA any mentions of x.xx.701 ROM versions.
Can I tell form the box what version of phone is inside? Nonofficial devices sold in sealed boxes, and nobody would open it before purchase.
You can't unfortunately, you can only assume that where it's being purchased from will dictate the version

not necessarily...mine was shipped from Hong Kong and i actually have an Indian version with a 720 number, different to the 'asian' number
(yes, i know india is in asia )

x.xx.707 had Russian.
But, I think it safe to assume that all ROMs contain large amount of locales. Correct me if I wrong.
I bought an asian version and the seller told me to get the app more locale 2 from the market. With it you can have any languages you want!

Hi
I have also asian sensation (1.35.707.1) and also using it in Ukraine.
Can someone tell me do I have any good _technical_ reason to flash a European rom? Don't care about locale, i'm using English anyway.
How about radios or any other core software? I'm concerned with reception quality, maybe with EU rom i'd have a better reception?
I had HTC Incredible S, and after updating to EU rom from Asian reception was terrible (might also be a common Android 2.2->2.3 upgrade issue)
Thanks!

[Q] Sensation XE made in China

Hello,
I tried to find an answer in the forum but couldn't, sorry for the new thread.
Well, I received my HTC Sensation XE today (Orange UK), but when I looked at the black sticker on the box I was frustrated to see that it's made in China
(with all respect to China)
The label inside the phone says that too.
I was hoping for a one made in Taiwan, as my current HTC HD2 is made in Taiwan, and HTC is a Taiwanese company.
I'm wondering, are most of the Sensation XE's made in China? Or did I get a bad deal here?
Are the ones made in China 2nd grade or something?

Labor is cheaper materials are cheaper, but a company like HTC will maintain quality.
Just because it's made in China, doesn't mean that it's a substandard product.
Nowadays almost all phones are made in China. It doesn't matter if it is HTC, Samsung or Apple.
It does not affect the quality of the phone.

Thanks guys. Yeah I know that iPhone for example is made in China... But still hoped my sensation was made in Taiwan.
Does Orange UK usually ship Chinese phones or it's just my luck?

Hong Kong vs UK

I've read that the UK version will get 6GB ram bump up from 4GB and 128GB storage over 64GB elsewhere so if you see one look out for a 6GB version.
Only 6GB ram version is sold in HK
Do you know if the radios will be any different?
I am also interested in this, particularly if a HK handset will covered by HTC UK warranty?

2) Are the radios for the HK version compatible with Vodafone 3G and 4G networks here in Australia

The U11+ selling in Hong Kong are eligible for local warranty only, so think before you buy.
Thanks for responses I have picked one up in HK. Radios should be all good. Warranty is local but I knew that before purchasing.
