How many ROMS have GPU acceleration enabled. Im running Android Revolution atm and I understand now how powerful GPU can be. I see virtually no lag in browser even in the longest website while doing pinch to zoom. Are there any other ROMS that have this kind of smoothness in browser? Let me know!!!
Question 2: My mytouch 4g lasts a while on a single charge. I browse for 2 hours andplay music 1 hour everyday and with wifi on about 5-6 hours I get 24-28 hours of battery on Mytouch. With Sensation Im barely getting 15 hours.
Whatever special features a rom has will be mentioned in the changelog or rom info page.
Although you didn't ask a second question, i'll assume you meant to ask if the battery life can be improved? I'd suggest flashing Bricked kernel (usually comes with ARHD) and not overclocking. Also turn data off when you're not using it...if you need longer battery life, i'd suggest buying an Evo 3D battery (fits the Sensation but more capacity) or purchasing a 1900 ma Ankar battery.
Hit Thanks if i've helped
In regards to your first question, you can actually enable GPU acceleration on ANY ROM by adding this line to your build.prop:
debug.sf.hw=1
These next two lines will help with smoothness:
video.accelerate.hw=1
debug.performance.tuning=1
Bada bing! Hope this helps
EDIT: Not sure if a stock kernel will work with these tweaks.. also, you MUST have a rooted device as you cannot edit the build.prop otherwise!

That is SO AWESOME!!! So wait what are the limitations for this tweak? Can this be used in Single core devices like Mytouch 4g or like Incredible or other phones in general?

Back with another of my noob questions that is hard to find definitive answers to. Ok so I am running on a 1.4 kernal....is this good for the health of a phone? Now it seems the kernal side of development is really motoring....what can kernals offer ultimately to users? Thanks in advance
custom kernels mostly provide performance improvements. but sometimes they can also enable features that werent available with the stock kernel(for example... 720p video recording and fm radio in the nexus one)
Thanks I understand battery performance can be increased also?

absolutely!
A kernel with cpu undervolting could give better battery performance.
Excellent. Well the benchmarks don't lie and my phone certainly boots up quicker at 1.4. over or underclocked I look forward to more kernal flashings. Modding is a bit addictive
Hi guys I am a newbie here,i bought a samsung captivate just 3 days back and i have been loving it so far i will soon be flashing a custom rom.....!
well as i was looking for features of various roms,i felt i need a rom that has a dual performance mode
like i am a huge fan of graphics so i like decorating my phone and i am ready to sacrifice my battery life but it sometime happens that i need to go out for a day or two and my battery dies!
so here is what i am getting at,can we have rom that has say 2 performance mode one with all nice graphics text animations and all high end stuff and other mode where i get decent features and gives me better battery life....
like i should be able to swap between the modes....
i don know if such a thing is even possible but just my 2 cents...

ok, cyanogenmod supports this out of the box, under cyanogenod settings>performance>cpu settings>available governors
but if your using a different rom, just grab a new kernel, such as talon, and get set cpu and then you can change there governors as well, performance mode or on demand or conservative...

i think there are "governors" / apps you can download that will let you set up profiles and save them so you can quick switch between different profiles.

Well. A true governor is kernel dependant. And so any apps that you download to do it without a supporting kernel will just be (close this app) (turn down brightness) that kind of stuff. Where as set CPU and others like that will actually throttle the CPU down. Lower power consumption down internally. Which will actually have a real benefit.

could look into undervolting as well
Use Launchers
I dont know if this may help you for now, but what I do as a simple fix for this is run two different launchers. I keep touchwiz slimmed down with no widgets. I also put toggles and shortcuts on it to turn off multiple things on the phone that I dont want running all the time etc. I normally run ADW setup the way I like it but when I need to go somewhere for extended periods I just use home switcher to switch to TW.
Just something I found that works ok for me.
Hmmmm thanks guys !

hi
sorry for being such a nooby mcnooby-pants
but i just want to know which combination of roms and kernels will give me a great battery life and at the same time i want to be able to overclock to 1.5 GHz
i looked through the forums and i did all the basic stuff like
undervolting
setting profiles in setcpu
and removing all the bloatware from the phone
but everyone has a different combination and im really confused as to which combination to use
right now im using eaglesblood 2.3.7 with the dragon kernel and its really not working very well
so any and all help will be appreciated
thank you

My opinion:
1. Jump on a stock-based ROM with stock kernel and UC (underclock to 900-800 Mhz, you would be surprised you notice very little change in performance). Most stock-based ROM users report back great battery life.
2. Jump on a CM7 Nightly 199 or higher (Reports of great battery life, I can attest to this) with morfic or faux123's kernel (I prefer morfic's) which you can undervolt easily with Pimp My CPU (search XDA). I prefer it to SetCPU because the only profile I use is UC when the screen is off and with Tegra's DVFS CPU governor, it already does a good job of doing this. I also UC with this setup.
Delete Wi-Fi Calling (Kineto.apk) from your phone if you're not using it. I learned this from lotherius, it's always running in the background even when off and not in use. I was shocked to see the improvement.
I know it sounds stupid, but if you're in class or at work and don't need a barrage of updates on your phone, just turn off data. Most ROMs have a quick toggle setting to efficiently turn it on and off quickly and you'll be quite happy with how long it lasts. If you have to have data on or think it's moronic to have an Android phone that's not does not always have a data connection, battery drain is just the price that is payed.
woah.
Awesome answer
so do you think option 1 is better or 2?
does using cm decrease the battery efficiency?
if it does do you think the extra functionality in cm makes up for the batteryloss?
Thanks btw
Try miui 1.11.4 from whitehawkx with faux kernel cm-4.4

Good question, and I think that is totally up to you.
For example, my father and I both own G2x's, he runs a modified stock ROM (xboarder's ROM) and I run CM7. Without a doubt he gets better battery life than me, but at the cost of not having the features I have.
That may be a rough way of putting it but yes, using CM7 with all it's awesome features come with the price of not being as battery efficient.
The real question is if being less "battery efficient" actually means it's a bad thing. In my case it doesn't matter to me at all. Using the quick panel toggles in CM7, I only turn on data when I need it and I easily pull 15+ hours a charge because of it, assuming moderate usage.
Consider lotherius's tsugi rom, currently in version beta 3. It is my daily driver, stable, faster than 2.3.3 based roms, and excellent battery life. He has included a 2G toggle app that can automatically switch to 2g radio when screen is off to save lots of juice.

looking in the samsung infuse's super thread i saw some tweaks that could improve the battery life of my device. One is thunderbolt tweak by pikachu01 and the other one is Universal Adrenaline Shotv13 by dsexton702.. Which one has better results in battery life? or if i could use the two tweaks and if it would be okay? i flashed catyrom and infusion kernel about a week ago and already calibrated the battery but i still want to get more battery because it doenst last too much any other recommendation to improve this would be all right too
Try ZEUS ROM, The best battery life i have got on any infused rom so far.

Don't calibrate the battery. It does nothing to your life, I promise. Studachris posted a link to a Google Engineer saying it does nothing but mess stuff up. I'm with the guy above me, Zeus. Take the jump.
Oh.. Define: Bad battery life

Try NumasX v1.1 Has the same battery life Zeus. Battery life mostly depends on use and user.

Avoid USAS - Some of the changes it makes trade off data integrity for performance (without notifying the user of this fact - probably because the creater doesn't even know what the hell he actually did). So I would avoid it.
In general, most of these comprehensive tweak scripts are bad news - very often the creater throws crap in there that they don't even understand.
v6 Supercharger nearly destroyed a few Tab Plus users' batteries by screwing around with kernel reboot-on-panic settings.
When it comes to tweak scripts - research tweaks, learn what they actually do, THEN apply them individually.
Quite a few of these are also valid for Infuse (but not all) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378080

Thanks for the info haha i will give them a try
So i just got a deal for a cheap Sensation and decided to give it a try. After a few days, i really like the Sense UI + ICS but find the battery is pretty bad compare to my GS2.
The Sensation drains about 8% overnight while the gs2 drains 2-3% overnight, both with nothing on. When playing music (doing nothing else, screen off) the battery drains a whopping 5%/h. while i dont think the gs2 would drain more than 1%/h just playing music. I thought the battery life on both phones should be more or less the same given the same specs and battery capacity (1650 vs 1520).
To be more specific, my ROM is ARHD 6.5.0 ICS, i havent installed any new app yet, i have the follwing widgets on : email, messages, weather, contact, task, music. I'm not sure if the drainage is coming from those widgets.
One more question, is there any way to quickly change brightness ? (like sliding the status bar as with the gs2). Auto brightness may be draining more battery but going through setting->display->brightness every single time is painful.
Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you.
download just defence i got a good result of it underclock your phone a bit to
Is there a kernel that allows undervolting which is fully compatible with ARHD6 ICS ?

something like this should do im not sure havent seen any other kernel for sensetion 3.32 base UV'ed
Juice Defender is a good option to test out, even using default settings it's pretty good with helping battery usage/drain.
Otherwise ARHD is using Sebastian's kernel at this point and you have the choice of using the 1.2 or OC'd 1.5 Ghz speed when flashing. If you're concerned you can use the 1.2 version or flash the 1.5 and just set the clock speed using something like SetCPU, available here on XDA, or System Tuner, from the Market.
As far as I know right now, the kernels are not allowing UV because the official source hasn't been released yet. Once source is released/obtained then things like UV and other deeper optimizations can be done by the awesome kernel developers here.

Actually didn't realize it would do it, awesome and thank you!
I normally perform my UVing through System Tuner Pro, but the options are not available at this time, I just checked, so I didn't realize another app that also allowed UV would still allow it. See what I get for assuming...... lol

So you have finally made your choice in choosing between HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S II? Found yourself having to recharge your new Android device every 8hours? You’re not alone. Some users reported to have a poor battery performance for their Android phones. Older device ranging from HTC Desire, Motorola Droid, Samsung Galaxy S, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to the latest dual-core Android phones; LG Optimus 2x, Motorla Atrix, HTC Sensation, and Samsung Galaxy S II, are not sparred with complains of poor battery life. However, Android itself is not a power hogger, or call it battery juice sucker if you like. Many users were able to get their Android device up and running in a single charge up to 3 days(gosh I missed the good old Nokia 3310-era).There are many factors in leading to poor battery life. The very main reasons are the display and unnecessarily turned on features, which some users don’t have a clue in turning it off. If you are happened to be one of the Android users not happy of the current battery performance, or you simply just want to improve the extra mileage of your Android device’s battery performance, here are some tips in improving the battery life of your Android phone.

because its for sound boost only, idk what u seek but it wont handle your volume into time but just boost it, i also noticed it doesnt work on sense but will on nonsense roms
Battery problems absolutely solved with "3g off" widget, on the market. I don't need anything more than basic phone and sms for hours at a time so I just hit the widget. Takes a few seconds to sync latest mail when it comes back on but less time than that to just find a 4g link. Great when I'm at the ofc where my mail gets pushed to my laptop anyway.
Very useful also in a weak-signal area, stops drain due to signal-search.
Juice Defender is very good for battery life but this solution is even better although the widget does require manual intervention when the screen comes back up. I use both. Possibly JD paid app automates the whole process.
