Hey guys I spend a good part of Friday trying to install a custom Kernel to my infuse. I tried using clockworkmod and odin to install the zip from my sd card. I had no luck. Every time the install from zip option was not available. I'm puzzled. Has anyone had this issue or see anyone else that had this problem. Thanks for any help.
Try moving the zip to your internal card if it isn't already. I know that CWM doesn't really like using the removable card.

He is correct.... CWM ONLY reads the internal card....

Stupid mistake on my part. I transfered the files and REMOVED my phone from the usb cable and vola. Flashed. Thanks for the help!!

hi folks,
i have been facing a serious issue with my samsung captivate it looks like i have bricked by Samsung Captivate i 897 i have read all the threads related to "Bricked" issue but not able to sort out this issue which you can see in attached image. my set boot after AT&T logo and Samsung galaxy screen its keep on rebooting (Bootloop).
but the lines in red below is some serious issue it looks like partion is having some serious issue as i amgetting internal stroge error.
error is:
"E:failed to mount /sdcard (file existing)
E:Copy_Dbdata_media:can't mount /sdcard
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions."
Please note i can go into recover mode and download mode.
What did u do to get it to this point ?? Just curious.
To fix...u need to use Odin or Heimdall to flash back to a Stock Firmware. See the Stock One Clicks Master Collection Stickied Thread in the Development Forum.
i897ucKK4 is the latest for the at&t captivate.
If u r good after that and want to proceed further to flashin some dev roms then see the Guide by TRusselo in the Q & A Firum. It is a stickied thread as well.

i have already flashed this firmware and many other GB Firmware but my issue is still the same after flashing my set goes into reboot loop
secondly can you please share the link the guide you are referring.

If you can get recovery or download mode you are not bricked. Looks like you are on 3e recovery. You cannot flash a rom from there. You need CWM recovery. Just flash any kernel in the dev section with Odin or heimdall that has CWM. ReBoot into recovery, Then flash anything you need to.

I'd recommend a one click to stock, i've never had issues with that when i have trouble, upgrade on up from 2.1 or where ever your one click takes you.

thank you every one for support i am now using CWM 7.1 and its working fine but the issue which i highlighted earlier is still the same, internal memory card is shown unmounted and i cant use any internal space available in in internal memory.

Did you try reformatting the internal SD card? --> It will remove all the files on ur SD card, but you could check if this is the issue, once you do that, I guess the only way to flash another ROM is going back to stock, moving the new ROM to ur SD card and then flashing it from CWM.
Your phone is not bricked. Just reflash to stock.
So earlier i attempted to do the 2.2 root.
i managed to get as far as rooting, installing superuser and CWM
now, the problem is when i went to flash the rom, i tried to run the super wipe, but was getting errors about the sdcard not being able to be mounted. and the wipe was not performed/failed/aborted etc
i tried to run flash the rom still, it loaded, but still gave an error at the end and did not work.
reboot the phone, and i get the HTS quietly brilliant screen with red text that says"this build is for development purposes only...." and from here it does nothing but constantly reboot to this screen.
i am able to get to the bootloader screen, and fastboot works.
ive tried factory resetting the phone, as well as using the CWM recovery. i am unable to do any. as the CWM cannot write to e:\sd card
its not mounted, and i cannot mount it, when i try to reformat the sd card, it says it is unmounted.
mount usb storage was not working either, and said files were missing.
i read on other threads about needing the sd card reformatted, but the one x has an internal card.
please help

If you can mount then connect to computer and try reinstalling boot image and the rom you were trying to install. Or adb

so from mounting
im trying to install the Android Revolution HD 9.7.2 Ice Cream Sandwich
it allows me to choose settings, and such and start install.
after starting install, it goes through the files and such, but when it gets to /system/lib/ it just closes on itself, and goes back to twrp screen and recovery home. the rom never finishes installing. right now im gonna re-download the rom and see if that works.
if i cannot install the custom rom, how can i go back to stock exactly?
do i need to find the stock ruu?

turns out im stupid and was using a rom not compatible with this phone.
i flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907324 so far, and it seems to be working
however, i prefer something closer to stock. can anyone suggest a rom?
hopefully you aren't using cwm anymore and flashed twrp for the evita.

I knew what you did the second I saw the words "Android Revolution", as that ROM does not exist for our phone.
Stick to the ROMs listed in our section of the forum (AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL) in "Android Development" and "Original Android Devepment" here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538

I didn't even have to use the search function. 2 are near the top of General. The remaining has slipped past the first page, but its still pretty high up there.
People who flash a ROM for the international version are simply neglecting to do any basic reading and learning before flashing things willy-nilly, that's my point.
thanks for the help guys. i flashed viper xl yesterday night right after, loving it thus far. i was just so used to the sense keyboard already, and hated the cramped jb keyboard, and this rom has simple little tweaks
i did read, but i guess not thoroughly enough. in hindsight, i wasnt aware that the one x was different than the xl, its fairly easy to miss that the other roms are not compatible with this phone. and is completely different alltogether.
if i had known that, i wouldnt have flashed cwm, and would not have need to post a help thread. all "solutions" i attempted on my own were based off readings of the hox, rather than the evita, once again causing more problems. it was easily enough fixed once i figured that bit of information out.
i am a noob, but this phone is not my first time rooting, so with my prior knowledge i felt i was more than ready to tackle this rom flashing, im sure plenty of others will make the same mistake as i did.
the other phones ive rooted and flashed had their one model of phone only, so all the roms available were compatible.
im just glad my phone is not bricked, and i now have root access

Do not use CMW it causes lot of problems(not recommended for our device) . Use TWRP recovery instead

Dang you guys are slipping through the cracks in the bricks lol, excuse my pun. You are lucky. You're the only person I've seen that has flashed android revolution and not overwrite boot and having a beautiful brick lol.

From what others are saying, the newer hboot that came with 2.20 is write protected. Hboot can't be overwritten by flashing a ROM for the international One X. ROM just fails to flash, and you get a recoverable condition like this one, as opposed to hard bricks on the older hboot.

How do i ruu back to stock 2.20? I unlocked my device. Tried flashing the boot.img but after I couldnt mount my sdcard to flash the rest of the ROM. I can enter recovery and bootloader though. Really need some help

If you want to ruu grab the ruu file...lock your bootloader from within fastboot and run the ruu

Where do i get the ruu file? I can't mount my sdcard
Hey guys,
Just experienced what I think is a soft brick. I know that this has been talked about a dozen times, and I have searched. I just want a more experienced yes or no to be sure.
Basically, last night I tried flashing PAndroid on my skyrocket and I went through the format system, format data, factory reset, and wipe cache. Then when I went into flash a zip it said something to the effect of "E: Can't access SD Card". So then I tried to use my band road but that also gave me the error. I then tried to mount the SD card, but it gave me another error. So, guessing that it would just factory reset me, I rebooted.
Now, my phone will vibrate and flash the Samsung logo before going to a black screen (but the screen is on). It also had the symptom of sticky power button for a while with the few second interval buzzing, but I jammed the power button and it seemed to stop doing that and is now doing the aforementioned thing instead.
Should I go use Vincom's soft Brick guide? Also, does anyone have a link to a 7zip extractor that isn't riddled with viruses? (had a hell of a time getting rid of them the first time I rooted haha)
Again, I know this is probably a fairly obvious answer, but yall have just been so helpful in the past that it makes me want to come here before just winging it. And I'm really nervous with this being my first time haha.

Use vincoms guide and Odin back to stock. I just googled for 7-zip and didn't get any viruses. Don't have the original file or I'd put it up on dev host for you

You wiped system. That's why nothing is happening. You should still be able to enter recovery. Now why your recovery was giving you that error is a different story. Go to recovery and copy the version down here.

Okay, I managed to get into recovery, but I'm still getting the error about the SD card not being mounted. I was looking on Google and I found two different solutions. One was to re flash CWM with Odin, but would that mess up my phone because it already has CWM on it? The other was to reformat my SD card on the computer, but I have no honest idea how to do that haha.

Re-Flashing cwm won't mess anything up. Formatting the sd card will remove everything on it including the rom you're trying to flash.

it has super user also, so we are good there
when i try and load most roms i get an error on the "instal zip from sd card"
its a status 7 error
the only one that hasnt had that error is the
Slim-i727-3.1.0-OFICCIAL.zip
but this one gets stuck at the boot screen
i have cleared chach, bat stats, chache partition, factory reset, dalvik chace...
nothing seems to be working, anyone with some ideas?
FYI..i rooted my straightalk samsung galaxyu precedent..so not my first root XD
Try formatting internal memory? [Sd card] have a backup on your pc of whatever you want to keep as this will erase all data like pics and music.

First off that's a really old version of CWM. Either install sk8's CWM or the most recent twrp. I bet that's ur problem. If u still get errors google status 7 error, I can't remember exactly what it is but I think it involves a compatibility check issue or something.
ya status 7 is the compatability check..ok so the newest cwm should fix it...ok hopefully that helps
