TF1 International Charger - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys, Got a quick question. I'll be traveling outside of the US next month. I do not have a TF yet but am thinking of getting one. I am wondering if I need to get a power converter for the TF or if the power adapter that comes with the TF will automatically convert the power difference. Thanks.

I don't have a TF yet either, but I imagine it would be fine voltage-wise. You'll need a plug adapter, but nearly everything today is dual voltage. I have an old Eee netbook, and am using it during a semester abroad in Scotland right now with no problems. Just look on the charger and it should say "input: 100-240v", which means it'll be fine pretty much wherever you go.
Edit:
According to this post, you should be fine with a simple plug adapter.

The plug is able to take input from 100-240V 50 or 60 HZ

Yep, can confirm that. I use the TF with an adapter since day 1 because I imported from UK to Germany and we run a different voltage here. Works perfectly fine

Yep, I can confirm it as well. I just picked up the 5-head travel kit (well, two, and now I have a spare as the second was for my Dad, who typically I then found out had just given up and bought the 3-head kit the day before).
It's the same exact power supply as bundled with the Transformer, but with five different heads for the USA, Europe, Austria, United Kingdom and Asia Pacific (China).
If anybody wants my extra, give me a shout. It's a nice alternative to having to pack an extra bulky travel adaptor -- you can just take the head(s) you need for the trip along with your regular charger, and when you get back to the US, you've got a spare charger. (Now I can charge my dock and tablet separately, and get them back to a full charge in half the time!)

Yep, I've used mine in Sweden, Qatar and Japan without a hitch. Just wish it would come with plug adapters as standard, together with a longer and stronger cord.

Well, you *can* buy a kit with the charger and plug adapters (and you basically end up with a spare charger). I can see why they don't bundle the adapters in the box with every kit, as most people will never need them.
What would really be nice would be to sell the adapters without the charger.
And yeah, ditto on the longer cord. I was kind of hoping the travel kit would have a longer cord, but it doesn't -- it's the same cord that shipped with the tablet itself.

The plug adapters are something like $0.1 to make, that is seriosly cheap good-will for the maker. Instead they end up getting bad-will at the price of $30 for a travel kit. I agree that every adapter might not be necessary but depending on place of purchase you might include one extra plug adapter for the likeliest place of travel.
In Europe we have a two-pronged circular plug, in the UK they have a slanted three-pronged sturdy plug. Include both UK and European plugs, and they probably save on what it costs them to pack UK and European models separately. Just an idea.

[Q] Does the Dock come with a own charger?

Hi @all!
I was finally able to order an Eee Pad Transformer out of UK. It should arrive in the next days
Now as you perhaps know, the grid in Germany is different from the one in the UK and I'll have to use a travelling adapter or USB to charge the Transformer. No problem so far, but in the long run it's still a little cumbersome...
So do you guys know if the docking station comes with an extra charger/power supply? That would be cool because I'll order that one in Germany and I wouldn't have to use the travelling adapter all the time.
Additionally, does anyone know what the docking station will contain besides the keyboard?
Regards

In what shop did you buy it?

I won't need an adaptor but I am still highly interested in knowing which shop you used

Just to clarify - it's not the "grid" that is different in Germany; both have ~220-240 V. It's the outlets that are different. Definitely get a charger since I read that USB charging takes forever!

@funnycreature: thx for clarifying, that's what I wanted to say And yes I already read that charging via USB is a pain in the @ss. I already have an adapter, I just want to know if the docking station'll come with another one when I buy it in Germany.
@Magnesus and psinno:
Ebay First I bought via borderlinx by a subsidiary from Comet (don't know the name right now since I'm at work) but they cancelled my order because they ran out of stock (as well as Comet i think).
But I was lucky and got the only one in ebay that was shipped from UK. All others are from Taiwan right now, meaning very high custom fees and such crap.
I think how it works is that you just use the adapter and usb cable that came with your eee pad, and that plugs into the keyboard dock. And then obviously you put the tablet into the dock to charge up the main pad. I dont think there is an extra charger involved. So in your situation you will just need a normal UK>euro adapter. I doubt anyone other than reviewers have the keyboard dock yet, but from the videos/pictures I've seen this is how it seems to work.

Yeah that's what I guessed, too. Too bad though... Perhaps I'll buy the charger serparately to save me the adapter stuff.
Thx for clarifiing!
Now something different: Can I charge my Transformer with an X10 USB->supply adapter (EP-700)? Output is 5V, 700mA, the Transformer needs 15V, 1.2A. Don't really know how this would affect the device, will it just charge slower or will it damage my battery?

It will charge it much, much slower. That output is basically the same as a usb port from a computer.

It's a little higher I don't care about the speed, but the Transformer I bought is completely drained and USB driver fails to install. And since the original charger doesn't work with German power supplies, I need to charge it otherwise. Thx!

It's not a little higher in voltage though, which is what matters. The lower the voltage difference, the less current flow.
First the power supply needs to be a high enough voltage, but not too high to where the internal circuitry cannot handle it. Then the current value is how much current the charger can supply. This generally matters most with something that is hooked up 100% of the time, like a desktop, or a laptop which you are running from the charger.
I'm not sure why it wouldn't work with German power. It should be the same as adapting to any European supply, just need a physical adapter.
A picture is worth a thousand words so... pic from the manual attached.

[Q] Can I charge without the power adapter?

Hello,
I think I am going to get a transformer, however the availability and price in Spain is insane and I will get one probably from UK, the power adapter there is not compatible with the stuff that we have in spain. Is it possible to charge via the computer USB or by using any other USB charger with a USB input like a HTC charger?
Regards,
Isaac.

Just buy a UK to EU adaptor (one of these).
Regards,
Dave
You can charge via USB from a computer, but it will take 24+ hours.
You can also charge from an iPad power adapter.
I am thinking of doing the same thing myself...
But I am trying to bring one from the US one I got there (i am going there on a month). I am expecting the AC adaptor works with 110-220 Vac and I will only need a plug adaptor (one you can get almost on every hardware store).
I would be glad if you kept me updated about any thing yo do / discover.
Regards.

Chargers left in hotel, where to buy? (retail store)

Searched around and found that monoprice.com is the go-to for cables/chargers..but I'd like to get one TODAY. At which retail store can I find the best price to replace the stock wall charger and usb cable for our epics?
Luckly you can just use your computer or laptop to recharge your phone for now.
If you cant wait to buy one off e-bay i would go to walmart. They have all kinds cheaper chargers.
Walmart has one that fits Samsung Epic (says so on the package), but I had one from there that would lock my screen while charging (took it back and they didn't have another). My other one from Walmart has always worked fine. If you don't need a wall charger, they have car chargers too. Also if you can find a Radio Shack they have them. Sometimes Truckstops have them. Anyways, chargers have gotten to be like reading glasses at my home and work, they are everywhere!
I second the laptop/computer charging for now. Don't give those retail stores the satisfaction of ripping you off!
left the charger, probably left the cord too. fortunately enough anyone that has electronics now usually has a $5-$10 USB->microUSB cord. just plug it in to your computer and skip the wall charger
IDK where you live, but in a ohio theres a chain of stores call "Big Lots" use to be "Big and Small lots".... any who, they sell universal chargers for 6 bucks. I bought one of these as I wait for my better charger to be shipped form china via boat for 2 dollars.
any dollar tree should have a 4 or 5 dollar fire hazard charger.
Pay for a charger?! Don't you guys know that all you have to do is go to the front desk of any large hotel, tell them that your mom left her phone charger in a room a few weeks ago when she was passing though, but you don't know esactly when or what room, and they'll have a box of chargers for you to rummage through. You'll be able to take your pick of micro USB chargers from any OEM you want. Except Apple. People call or come back for Apple chargers.
I have to say that I *loved* the Big Lots comment. My father went there one time and bought two Duracell car chargers for my mother's LG phone for $8!!!! He didn't even know what type of interface she uses, (it's micro USB,) but for that price, he just bought the two and figured one would work.
Fry's Electronics and Microcenter have really cheap Micro USB cables that they'll have in 50-gallon drums at the entrance of some of their stores.
Spend the 15-20 bucks at Radio Shack for a decent quality charger that won't degrade your battery faster because of unsteady voltage output.

I recommend an iGo Charger from Radio Shack. Best investment in my opinion since you can just buy the interchangeable plugs and never have to get another charger again, at least until the thing poops out. Have had my two car and one home charger for several years now. Plus I like the Y-adapter that lets you charge two things off the same charger.

Amsterdam: where to buy charger?

About to board a plane to Amsterdam and just realized I left my charger and cable at home Can any of our friends from the Netherlands suggest where I might be able to buy one when I get there?

You'd have to look for a TF201, 300 or 101 charger, because the TF700 isn't sold here anymore. All chargers work fine on a 700, though. Or a USB charger with a 15V output. But those are even harder to come by.
Try looking in Media Markt or Saturn. (You can't miss there stores, they're huge (by european terms.. They're the world's second largest after Best Buy.) I'm not sure if they're sold separately, though.
Your original charger wouldn't have worked anyway; we use entirely different power sockets than the US, in both shape and power. 220-240 Volts as opposed to the US's 110-120 Volts. It would not have fitted, and fried your charger. Keep this in mind for everything you bring!
For pretty much all other devices (phone, etc) you can buy a cheap 10 euro USB charger at Mediamarkt or Saturn (Look for the brand Hama, it's reliable.). These plug into the power outlet, and accept all USB cables (regardless of country and brand of origin.). Alternatively you could look for a USA-to-EU converter plug. (might be cheaper) Not that laptop chargers will also not fit into the socket, so you may need a converter plug for those as well if you bring one.
If MM or Saturn doesn't sell the converter plugs, you can try asking at the VVV, (The Tourist Office, it's at the main train station. You may want to stop by there anyhow if this is your first time, since if you're planning to use public transport you'll need a Chipcard for it (We got rid of paper cards a few years ago). They can tell you where to go for that.) the ANWB store (ANWB is our national travellers union, simply put.) or a camping store. They should be able to help you, or at least point you in the right direction.
So in my wanders (awesome city BTW, I found it almost entirely by accident) a man in a camera shop suggested paradigit computers and sure enough they had one. Also, all modern (like every item I own) including my US and the Amsterdam chargers for the tf201 are"auto ranging" meaning they can use either 110-240v ac at 50-60 hz. I brought the"prong adapter" and I work with electronics so I check everything first (except my surge protector, whoops, it's OK it only blew the surge protector and the fuse) but literally every other device I have is 110-240, with the physical prong adapter of course

Paradigit still exists? I thought it went bankrupt last year... Oh well. At least you found one

Offical Razer Charger Question

I live in the UK and currently using a the offical razer charger (that plugs into the UK socket) going away next month to the US and wondered if i would need to pickup the US version of the adapter. I was never a fan of using travel plug like devices and now that my travel kit is all USBC i was just thinking its best to use the right plug for the main device which would be the phone.
I have the RavPower 26800mah power bank so can always output power to other devices if needed such as bluetooth headphones as it has USBC PC in/out and standard USB connections which is more than i need
£40 is a bit of a price but didnt want to buy cheap "travel like chargers" also because the US power runs at 120v and UK runs at 240v i believe as the phones quick charge shouldnt make a difference as the lower power in the US is still way more than the requirements for quickcharge meaning it will charge at the same speed.
...would it be cheaper just buy a new power cord??? Mine just uses the standard 3 OOO plug. I have a spare US cord from a previous Toshiba Laptop that works fine on my UK power adapter.

Look on the plug to see whether it states "100-240V, 50/60 Hz" , it will work fine with an adapter.
The Razer charger is a 100-240v (50hz-60hz) adapter, so even though it only has UK prongs on it, the internals of it are capable of running on the US power grid.
All you should need is a standard UK>US adapter, something like this.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/ShaniTech-...1524758367&sr=8-1&keywords=US+UK+adapter&th=1
Hell you might be able to find one in poundland or the US store equivalent.

I'm sure your question has been answered, but I have the US version in Korea. The charger works fine on 220v with a 110 to 220 plug adapter. Also, I think I saw mention above of a power bank. I have a GIGASTONE model PB-7824, 24000mAH. It has USB-C and it supports fast charge.
