Yo bro , how did the ROM flashing work out ?
I mean, I just got this phone too and I can't install any tweaks and mods on the custom ROM even though I am rooted and have CWM.
So I believe you just installed the ROM through CWM eh ?
Also are you using SGH-I727 ROM's or SGH-I777 ROM's ???
Thanks in Advance

personally i haven't flashed anything yet. Havent seen anything that makes me want to make the jump yet. thinking of Alien as I did have that on my atrix. but still having a good time with just stock.

i727r slim bean
Hey, I found this thread pretty helpful. I have a i727r with slim bean rom and I cant get the LTE logo to appear in the notification bar (it does however display 4g). I ended up downloading a network monitor widget and it displays the LTE logo. Does any one if theres a way to get slimbean to display it in the notification bar, or is this just how Slim bean works?
Also it seems to not be able to send mms text messages. I checked the apn settings again and theyre configured to whats pasted above. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Cheers

Im running a i727r with Slim bean 3.0 and Go Launcher

4G = LTE. Try downloading a Speed Testing app and you should get getting 10-30+mbps.

I figured 4g and LTE were the same thing. A friend of mine is running stock os and his says LTE so I figured I would ask.

Unfortunately Hspa+ (sp?) was popularized as 4G, but it's really 3G.5. LTE is "true" 4G. That said, "4G" will vary from Rom to Rom.
I'm on Rogers and its ics stock Rom labels hspa+ as 4G, and LTE as itself. Way back when I switched over to slimbean I was concerned at first, and then I noticed that it labels hspa+ as itself and LTE as 4g. Technically this is correct...so..good times!

Cool, thanks for the explanation. I was a bit confused about this so its good to see how it actually works.

I've done speed tests and was never sure what the readings should be, so thanks for this. I knew for my computer but not phone LOL :good:

Quick question, I noticed I wasn't getting LTE so I went into Phone, typed #*#*4646*#*# and set my radio to LTE only. It completely stopped. The radio was fully off, couldn't even text. When I set it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA it turns back on and HSPA+ starts working. Why is this?
I'm on Rogers. I should also add that so far no 4.2.2 ROMs have had working LTE for me.

For those of you who cannot get these settings to stick, try using exactly the info posted, BUT, put in 80 as your "Port". Not to be confused with "MMS Port:80", though you leave that the same also, should work. And the asterisk(*) should work better for "APN Type".
:good:

Samsung Captivate on Rogers network

Hey all,
I searches but I did not get find an answer. Anyways, if to get Captivate from States, will it work on Rogers network with 3g.
I saw that to change APN setting. Do those work?
The reason, I have Xperia x10 and looking to get this phones as well. for Xperia x10, I had to root in order to change radio frqs to get 3g connection.
Therefore, is it same with Samsung or just unlock should do the trick?
It should work. Rogers android phones work on AT&T. they use the same frequencies. You'll have to unlock the AT&T captivate first though, and then change the APN settings to work on Rogers for data.
perfect, less headache then. thnx for the reply
Hey Man
I have an at&t captivate on the rogers network and it works great the only thing i had to do was enter the apn. other then that everything else works perfect outta the box
i too have att's captivate on rogers. had to set the apn for my data and mms to work though. a few of the apns i found on google didnt work for mms, so if you end up having trouble later let me know and ill tell you which i used

I have Captivate on Rogers, works fine, just type in APN settings (Google rogers APN) and you will be 3G without issues. I would suggest also making sure you grab the file on your Captivate to decode the unlock codes before you apply any cooked ROMS and write down those codes in a safe place.
Great to see positive replies. I had Storm with no 3G, kinda sucks, main point for me for getting phone plus all other good things
Rogers will be releasing the captivate next week, but anyhoo mine works just fine on rogers.
I know, I have to wait for upgrade option for this phone until Xmas but desire to have it now

That's because you used the One click Odin. Grab the full Odin3, and use http://www.megaupload.com/?d=R4XRLA5X in the PHONE slot.
Also, make your own thread next time.
Thank you very much, sorry for the post issue, new to this whole thing!
I just installed cognition for 2.1. And for whatever reason when i go to add my APN back in, when i change the MNC from the default 72 to 720 it cannot save the settings and instead deletes any information that had been already saved.
I saw a way to edit the build.prop file in the hopes of hard coding the apn number in there, but for whatever reason i cant find the entry the post talks about.
Any help would be appreciated.
Oh, i installed the v2.1.7 Unhelpfuls Kernel from cognition. Trying to revert back to stock now.
if u use odni3 on a rogers phone this works to enable 3g
thx guys , i recently used odni to restart my frozen phone but my 3g wasnt workin but it is now thx

[Q] i9020a on AT&T gets only 70Kbps

I recently got a used i9020a for AT&T and for some reason it continually drops its data connection. I immediately put Koush's latest CM9 release on it, I am not sure I even have stock firmware for it (got it used with other custom ROM on it). The bars do not drop, the bars stay at full connection, but the data completely halts to and from the phone it seems like. I cannot even download a 2MB file without it stopping half way. Then after a minute or two, the data connection will come back only to drop again.
It basically makes the phone entirely unusable.
It is using my iPhone 4S SIM card (I would like to switch between phones).
I tried to run a speedtest.net speediest, and here are my abysmal results:
Code:
Ping: 1333ms
Download: 77kbps
Upload: 10kbps
What??????
I am running Koush's latest CM9 release:
Code:
Network: AT&T
Mobile network type: HSDPA:9
Baseband version: i9020xxkb3
My APN is setup as:
Code:
Name: ATT
APN: wap.cingular
Username: [email protected]
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Does anyone know what is going on here?
EDIT: tried a second ROM, still the same speed issue.
More then likely a different radio would help this.. Check stickys in dev thread for a list and how tos.. May even be something with the phone too?

Thanks, bud. I flashed Radio UCKF1 and that has me up to 1Mbps down and 200Kbps up. Gives me hope it's not a hardware problem. I will try different radios now. Thanks for your response.
EDIT: Beautiful, with this tweak I now have 3.5Mbps down and 300Kbps up. That's just about on-par with my iPhone 4S. thanks again.

Hi.
With Gingerbread and radio XXKF1 the data connection worked very fine.
After I updated at ICS (wipe and flash the rom) with XXKI1, the data connection is slower than with XXKF1: why?
Sometimes it don't connect.
It is a i9023 with ICS stock, unlocked and rooted.
Thanks.
Bye!

It works very fine now.
Maybe there were some problem with the antenna in my zone.

Fully working Verizon S3 on T-Mobile

Ive seen a couple thread that claim to get you up and running using a Tmobile Sim card in a Verizon Galaxy S3, none of them worked, either no data connection, dialer crashes, or no signal. I really needed to get this working, and i finally have!
Requirements:
Must have this ROM installed (This is what i used, you might try other JB ROMs) ---->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974114
Root access after flashing JB factory image
APN Manager PRO (Must be pro)
Titanium Backup PRO (also must be pro)
Process:
Flash the Jelly Bean factory image as outlined in the link above, make sure to follow through the entire OP, phone will NOT be rooted after flashing so take care to install CWM after rooting in order to Flash SU and unlock the bootloader.
NOTICE:
At this point you can stick a Tmobile (Possibly AT&T?) sim in the phone, go to mobile networks and you should get a message saying "Switch to global?" hit OK. You should then have bars. if you dont get the "Switch to global" message click around in mobile networks, or switch it yourself (options are GSM, CDMA, or Global. Not sure if choosing GSM will work, I only confirmed Global)
Once you're all set and rooted on the JB ROM, install TBP and APN manager PRO. Using TBP convert APN Manager pro to a system app (Under backup/restore click APN manager pro and select convert to system app). Open up APN manager pro, Select Insert APN, and plug in your T-Mobile APN info which are readily available on the web (make sure to include the MMS fields if you want MMS to work) I used these:
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1979
Restart Phone, go back to mobile networks, should get a message asking to switch to Global, hit yes. Congratulations, you now have a Verzion S3 woking with a T-Mobile SIM! At this point only Edge works, i might mess around a bit more to see if 3g/HSPA+ speeds are possible.
Credits:
Credit goes to open1your1eyes0 for the wonderful write up explaining how to flash the JB factory image.
Credit goes to lair12 for the original guide to use the S3 as a global phone, didnt work fully for alot of people but is a great starting point.

Hey MustangFTW, I'm still having trouble getting any network connection happening. Not even EDGE.
EDIT:
Nevermind! I got Data to work!
Follow every step of MustangFTW, but put these values in for full functionality on a T-Mobile sim:
Name: T-Mobile Data (or T-Mobile US)
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy: <Not set>
Port: <Not set>
Username: None
Note: For the Username, enter "None" with the keypad. Do not leave it not set.

After reboot, to make sure, enable that APN by selecting it from the APN List of the APN Pro app.
Then check APN Settings under Mobile Network to make sure it is enabled, then Global. Then, have fun!
As you can see in the Screen Shot, I currently have Data and it works!
Hope we can get full 4G fix in the future, plus T-Mobile is merging towers with Verizon by the end of 2012, so hope for better connection.
EDIT----------------------------------
Add the following...
MMS proxy: 216.155.165.50
MMS seems to be working for me on the latest CM10.1 with the following APN and added MMS proxy.

All you would need to do is get a US Cellular APN,
---------- Post added at 06:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:47 PM ----------
I'm not sure, but I do not think this will work with CM10 or AOKP, due to that they don't have the Global Function even with the Phone Info app.
If someone has a fix for this, please tell! Thanks ;D
You can only use US Cellular phones on their network if I am not mistaken. The CDMA networks (sprint, verizon,us cell) don't allow eachother's phones on their networks.

Nibbles 1.6 - No Data/Data Intermittent

I just installed Nibbles 1.6 - installation went smooth with no errors. I haven't installed a rom in a while and I was coming from a gingerbread rom that was on the phone for about a year.
Everything seems to be working except data. I've tried UCLK4 and UCLF6 and both radios do the same thing. Sometimes I get a data connection for a short while but then it goes away and it never was LTE in an area where I was getting full LTE on the old rom.
Any ideas?

I installed UCLL3 and it hasnt dropped the data connection yet (~20min). But it still isn't LTE. Under phone status it lists network type: "HSPA:10".
Signal strength: -89dBm 12asu
Gonna give this modem until tomorrow to see if it's any better.

ok, got it.
When I had my previous att phone which i unlocked and put on a t-mobile prepaid sim, I could swear it changed the boot screen from ATT's to TMO's.
On this ATT G2, I still have the ATT Bootscreen. also under Mobile Networks I still have Search for ATT Microcells. I figure this is just part of the stock ATT Rom.
What I really find weird is if I to go Network Operators and do a Search Networks it will find both TMO and ATT RATs.
Are you also experiencing this? Everything seems to work fine, including the TMO visual Voicemail app, so I don't think it is really a problem.
