Powerskin Review, good pics, my charging solution. - HTC Sensation

Hey everyone
Just got my powerskin today, very happy with it! It's pretty much the only "juice pack" type of product available for the Sensation.
Here are some pictures:

The PowerSkin capacity is 1500mAh, inside of the phone I have the Anker 1900mAh, for a total capacity of 3400mAh!
Mugen 3600mAh extended battery $104.95!
My Solution

PowerSkin for $49.62 (direct from powerskin it's 59.99)
Anker battery for $8.99 free shipping
total cost $58.61
50% savings pretty much!
In terms of the case, you can obviously see it's as thick as a pack of cigarettes but that will only really tell smokers how thick it is lol, just trying to give you an idea. It's really smooth feeling so it slides in the pocket very easily. I also like the function that if I hold the button on the back for 2 seconds, It turns off the powerpack from charging the phone, I also didn't think it would show by LED light how much power the case had but it does, SWEET!
The fit is absolutely precise, although how well that fit will be maintained I cant say because I just got it, the material right at the edges feels a little "floppy" but that's not really a negative at this point. All in all hope the pics help, any other questions feel free to ask!
Enjoy!

thanks for posting this, although I'm turned off by the buldge on the side, I'm sure other uses will find this review very informative

I have a powerskin. It does a decent job. I won it in a contest though. Cost=free

I am growing to like it actually because the bulge with the divot allows my thumb to comfortably grip it

I picked one of these up for $30 with the T-Mobile 50% off coupon a while back. My complaint is that the micro USB connector doesn't have retention barbs. When I would put it in my pocket, sometimes the connector would come out just enough to break the connection between the skin and my phone and the skin would stop charging the phone. With that said, out comes in handy for leaving it charged and in my glove compartment for emergencies.

Now, that was funny.

Nope. Give it time, the silicone will stretch.

Not impressed. I bought this thing about a week after they were released & its already dead. It won't charge at all. It did stretch which caused the connection to get lost from time to time but not too bad. And laying it on the table sometimes pressed the button on the bottom to turn the case off

Daily I'd say I got an extra 5 or so hours. But the damn thing died already. I can't charge it at all anymore. Definitely won't be buying one of these for future phones.

I have and dont like it. It was a good use for a while then weeks later it gets wear out. Connection slips out of the phone so i gotta keep putting the connector back and its very annoying,....

that thing is really thick! to thick for me lol

...that's what she said.
(on topic) I had one of these for my MT4G and gave it up. It's just too bulky and I couldn't really justify the discomfort for the actual usage I needed from the phone. I found it easier with the S4G to just get the 2x1900mAh Anker Batteries+charger combo. I think I'll stick with that in the future vs buying the powerskin. My case gives me better protection anyway.

I used to have the PowerSkin... well... I still do have it, but it died in less than a week. Won't charge or anything. Just dead.

Has anyone tried both the Mugen and Seidio extended battery covers?

I'm curious which one felt better in your hands while typing with the hardware keyboard. If Mugen does I will order the Seidio battery and Mugen cover independently as I've had good experiences with this combo of parts on my Palm Previously.
Dude man like really. Why wasting my time wit you. Everyone knows seidio rules. Just look at their website they have everything then look at mugenpower and like they don't have all the accessories, they are the low down dirty skanks of the cell world
Also with mugenpower better get a condom for your phone as they are made in dirty conditions with slave labor from china

I just got my Seidio 3300 and must say the case for it is extremely uncomfortable in my hands. There are way too many hard angles which is really taking away from the the experience of using the phone itself. I ordered the Mugen cover from the link posted below and will be updating this post in a few days when I receive it.

I like it. I think I'll order one. The decision to make it a thick version of the original seems perfect.

Yeah, especially with the keyboard fix TheImpaler posted last night. Although I have become accustomed to the Epic's weight I have always found it to be a little light for my taste. Even after logging some decent time in with this Seidio cover I still don't like it. There is just way too much going on in the back not to be distracted by it. Having extra meat in the back also makes typing 5x easier. I'm thinking a thicker OE design will be just what the doctor ordered. Mugen did a good job on their covers for the Pre and hopefully they'll do justice to the Epic's design as well.
I don't really use the slide keyboard. I just like the idea of the same/similar curvature as stock.
I just got the Mugen cover and its spectacular. I had to shave the living hell out of the insides to get it to fit as it uses a thicker plastic than the Seidio but it was well worth the effort. I highly recommend it. Feels great in my hands.
Nice. Can you post a picture of the insides?
Lots of scraping with a pocket knife lol. I lined the edges of the battery with some chalk to see what areas needed shaving.

Cool. Thanks for that. How does it fit around the edges? Is it precise?
I'm OCD and my generic eBay cover bugs the heck out of me because it doesn't follow the phone perfectly. Hah
It took about three days to come from Colorado to Berkeley. No shipping confirmation was sent so don't get worried if you don't hear anything from Mugen.

It fits great. I'm OC too and spent an extra 20 minutes shaving it down so that everything was nice and tight. I took off maybe 1/16" off when all was said and done. I'll post pics of it once I get home.
Thanks. I placed my order the other day. Do you still like it?
It was a little too much for me to be carrying around as a daily driver. I didn't mind it with my Pre but the Epic was just too big for my preference. I'm keeping it around for roadtrips however incase I need some intensive GPS usage. I ended up going back to the stock battery and lucked out when my phone bricked on Vision's 1.2 kernel. The sales rep at Sprint was nice and slipped me a spare battery. The girth of the extended battery cover definitely made typing a little easier so I ordered a protective case off ebay. Some guy is selling the same (supposedly) cases that Sprint sells for dirt cheap. They're the ones made by Otterbox. I picked it up for $7 shipped.
So for you it's a size issue, not fit or finish?
Yeah, fit and finish are perfectly fine. Expect to be shaving for a loong time. I think a pocketknife will work best.
I just received mine about an hour ago. Interestingly, the fit & finish is fine as you said but I had to put a spacer inside...not dig it out. I cut a business card in quarters, folded one of them in half then taped it inside.
I don't know if that's because of my batteries being eBay cheapies, or variance in the cover.
My only real complaint is how tight it is once it's on. Those little tabs make removal extremely difficult. Folks who never or rarely change batteries might consider that a good thing.

Same here, it seemed a little loose, and when I shut my KB to hard, the phone reset. Took me a while to trace it back to the loose battery, as I didnt notice it for the most part until I went to check my phone and it was off

Yah, I use my license to slip under and edge to get it off the back, but it sure is a PITA otherwise.
Overall, I LOVE it (once I fixed the looseness of the battery)
I really enjoy the way it feels when typing now, and I love the extra protection the camera lens now gets

Maybe your router is crappy? You live in a castle with 3 meter big walls?
I fully covered my sensation with both of my hands and the signal did not drop a bit.
Use a TPU case with my Sensation without any wifi issues. I'm running a very simple Netgear router, Have everything running off it, two computers and several phones without any issues.
i have a clear tpu case. doesnt bother my wifi at all. maybe its ur device.

It messes with mine as well. Really only notceable where my signal is very low. I HAVE noticed that I get better battery without a case. I think the phone has to work harder to maintain a signal.
I'm leaving mine off for a bit.... I started having screen issues with the clear TPU case as well as the body glove kick stand case. Could be coincidence or something else. I had also been leaving the phone off the charger at night and using the extra wall charger that came with my CHICHITEC battery. Once I left the phone plugged in all night it's back to a perfect phone.
I didn't leave it on long enough to see if actually degraded my wi-fi signal for sure.
I know the TMO gel case that was recalled destroyed my wifi signal, and the tmo body glove case didn't seem to do anything to it.
I think this phone is just meant to be naked.
AND.. my router is a dual band $300.00 media streaming gigabit monster, mounted in the center top level of my 2300 sq. ft. 2 story home!!
Well after a couple days of flawless operation I've just put the clear tpu case back on for some test time.
Also just ordered the gloss black tpu case from the same company. ...... Damn I know ill end up naked .... Oh well.

A slightly different question, also related to the tpu case. I was going to order one and pre-order a cradle as well, but I just realised that might not fit. I don't want to have to remove the case when I place my phone in the cradle. Do you guys perhaps have an idea of whether the phone would fit in the cradle including the case?
For reference, I'm preordering the official HTC cradle, HTC Sensation CR S490.
Wish I could link it but my newbie status on these forums won't let me...
Thanks!
I ordered a similar cradle from expansys, and am hoping it fits.
They are so far out on shipping I wont be able to answer that question for a while...

I mean a charging dock yes, but HTC specifically calls it a cradle
As for removing the tpu case, I dunno, it just seems like a hassle to remove and replace it time after time. I'm also quite a messy person and likely to forget. Good to know, though, I might consider a different type of cover. Thanks
What color is your case? I have a smoke color one from eBay and it's causing my WiFi dropped out completely. After removed the case the signal restored.

HTC Desire Z desktop dock?

Hey
I was wondering for a recommendation for a HTC Desire Z desktop dock with a AC adapter to use it as a clock and also free up the USB cable that came with the Desire Z. I perfer official but I dont think there is any for the Desire Z, only the G2.

This is exactly what I did. Though, once the lights are out its surprising how much light still gets through even that. Granted its barely noticeable but just shows how bright the damn thing is.
I have that dock, it's so messy to attach the phone that I stopped using it - scared of damaging the USB port.
This is the "Official" one from T-Mobile. I love it. Works great as a daily alarm clock. Matches great with the phone.

Just get Spider podium bend it the way you like, and use the cable that came whit the phone to dock, since this is just a phone stand. And since you need a micro-usb cable for smth, just crab one from a local store for couple bucks.
http://www.breffo.com/product-information/product-info/
And here is my Spiderpodium: https://www.dropbox.com/gallery/11374881/1/Spiderpodium?h=d7c0f4
Best part, works whit every phone out there. so when you get a new phone, this is compatible whit it.
Rubber coating is great, and crabs on nicely. You could use this to mount your phone to bike, at least that's what they say, and it really is so firm that it would probably hold just fine. tough @ first glance it totally looks like its not going to hold it that well.
ust purchased a G2, waiting for it to arrive, but I always look around for accessories and gadgets. Those official T-mo ones are on ebay for decent price. Have some Hk knock-offs for cheaper as well.
I've got the cradle charger that was shown earlier on ebay earlier. It's also on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/GSI-Quality-Desktop-Charger-Data-Sync/dp/B004H6N7XA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
It worked great except for the problem with plugging it in every night. There are no guides to help aligning the USB plug. I have to fiddle with it for a little while before it seats. This has done some very minor damage to the usb port over a year.
I upgraded to an extended Seideo Innocell 3500MAh and now the phone can not dock in the cradle. Also the 2nd battery charger can not accomodate the extended size battery.
Docking this phone is an absolute nightmare. Had a car holder for mine. Took some nerves the first couple of times to fit it.
Has anyone recently bought the genuine T mobile dock show in this thread? Tried eBay, Amazon and google but just get many knockoff versions - any help appreciated thanks.
The one mentioned in this thread is kind of clumsy as you all say.
The spider one not only looks weird but not sure if it can do landscape.

Thanks, but I think the genuine one is exactly the right size so should be easy to use. The knockoff ones don't appear to have any guide so the lining up the phone with the power jack is guesswork. I think the genuine one should work fine.

There are no videos or reviews on the internet of it. If anyone has this case, please post pictures.
I'm a little hesitant on buying this because i don't know how long i will have the sensation because of the One S.
wooo it loooooks sooo coool. found two reviews and they say that the charging port hole is too small. other than that its awesome.
I have this case. I love it. Feels nicer in the hand. Charging port is tight but it will fit. and it attracts quite a bit of lint.
All in all Its a good case.
Sent from my Sensation 4G using XDA
I've also got this case- looks really cool but found it hard to access the charging port.
Also though the texture was good in the hand and felt quite non-slip it made it difficult getting it in and out of tight jean pockets.
Attracted a lot of lint too.
Changed back to my casemate pretty quickly, really love the way it looks but all of the above my it a bit of a pain to use daily IMO.
Annoying that this one is the only one available for the sensation- there are lots of other cool ones in the range that fit the iPhone.
If I knew charging port is so uncomfortable - I would not buy.
Unfortunately, the coverage has been purchased, I will give it to a friend.
It is really narrow and difficult to use?
I bet you could take an x-acto to the charging port? If you're careful I bet it would work. And if you already have the case and aren't going to use it why not at least try to fix it so you can? If you mess up so what.
dremel out the port. tape it off first so you have a guide line.
make sure that when ever the phone is hot (playing games, charging) take the cover off. mine left stains on the back cover because it kind of melted from the heat and left those stains.
And for the charging port, the easiest solution for me is to use a Nokia cable it fits perfectly
Shame....it'd such a good looking case smh

Saw it on The Verge. I'm wondering if the magnets will be able to hold it up with a bumper on. The image shows that the diameter of the orb is larger than the width of the phone meaning a bumper would stop it from touching the base of the orb... meaning the magnets might not be as strong. I would much rather wait for a video review of peoples experience.

From the other thread, it's Battery Widget? Reborn!
Already have two LG chargers but figured one more can't hurt so I ordered mine and went through right away. Already charged on CC.

You need to take the case off to use this? I also like to use my device while its charging on the cable so this is not that great of an idea imho.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you do. I tried using the phone (and the case) with the Nokia Lumia wireless charger in an O2 Store and it worked fine.

I'm thinking you might need to take off the case for the magnets to latch onto the phone though. I'm worried even with the OEM bumper the phone won't sit properly.

I really hope the magnets will still work when using a case
I'm going to go out on a limb here and speculate that the magnets will still work with the thin TPU cases out there. Reason being, the Nexus 4, when nude, is as slick as greased moose poo and is going to require a fair amount of magnetic pull to keep it from sliding off of the Orb. The TPU cases will probably lessen the pull, but will instead add additional friction, so I'm guessing they'll cancel each other out.
Pure speculation, but that's how I'm rationalizing buying one

I assume they made the OEM bumper the way it is (thin as heck with very little lip) so that it would work with the OEM wireless charger. Only makes sense, but I wouldn't put it past Google/LG to mess this up.
What is the Battery status app being displayed? maybe it comes up when connected to charger 0_o

I laughed at the moose poo! It really does try to slowly sneak towards and edge if you leave it on a glass table or tiled area. I've had a few near drops.
Does anyone else question the usefulness of wireless charging? I think it's quite cool and all that, but it's hardly like plugging in a micro usb cord is especially time consuming. Does anybody know if it charges faster than micro usb? This may be a silly question, but can you charge the phone using both the usb and charging org, in order to charge it quicker?
