Backlights going out on keyboard. - Droid 2 Global General

So my friend has a d2g and had backligjt issues which makes it hard to use it at the bar and such. They would Luke me to root and rom it and I was wondering if there is a way to tweak the lighting settings and fix this?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium

The backlight issue is due to the gingerbread update. So rooting it would be the most sensible. However, after having a ton of problems rooting the new gingerbread update, I would suggest against it. Without using SBF back to 2.44 (Froyo) rooting is very difficult on the D2G. I ended up bricking my phone to the point that it wouldn't SBF.

Indeed, rooting any Motorola phone running Gingerbread is very difficult. You need to download a script or a program for your PC (called Droid3 One Click Root, or for those who like Windows and easymode, Pete's Motorola Root Tools), connect the phone via USB, run that script/program, and let it do its job. Takes a whopping 3 minutes, which is indeed soul-crushingly depressing. I also heard everyone complaining that it even fails to brick their phones. This is clearly an outrage.

Thanks guys.

how do u bricked ur phone until it wont SBF?
u need to reinstall moto driver, rsd lite, a right SBF file
after u reinstall moto driver n rsd lite, reboot ur pc
then try SBF'ing
*experience from switching apex rom to miui (GSM forced error) to CM7 (stuck at M logo bcos i was on GB - i use froyo and flash froyo-based cm7)

Rooted giingerbread leak available on TBH app

Just wanted to tell everyone that TBH released the rooted gingerbread leak on their app a while ago, here's the steps to install it:
1. Sbf to be completely stock, you must have all the stock apps and be on the 2.4.330, so if you sbf to the .29 firmware, update it to the .330 firmware
2. Root your phone and install bootstrap, don't boot into recovery yet!
3. Install the TBH app (if you don't have it, donate to team black hat to get it) and download the 2 files for gingerbread, there's a part 1 and part 2, don't rename them.
4. Boot into clockwork recovery using bootstrap
5. In bootstrap, flash part one of the update, then immediately after without restarting, flash part 2.
6. Restart, you should get the red M logo and boot into gingerbread, if you bootloop boot into recovery by holding the x button on your keyboard when you turn it on and then hold the vol up+down buttons to unlock the menu, once in the menu do a factory reset.
Rooted GB is pretty fast and stable, haven't encountered any bugs yet, battery life is pretty solid (a bit better than froyo), I'm in the process of freezing apps, its difficult now that they added a lot more bloatware that, I have to figure out which of the new apk's to freeze without breaking anything, just a heads up.
Hope you all enjoy your leaked gingerbread!
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL running Leaked Rooted Gingerbread!
I installed the non rooted version of this and it's been working perfectly since last night. No issues at all so far and the battery life seems better but it's still too soon to tell.
All in all, I'd say this is a great release and appears to be better than Froyo even with a ROM. I'm just currently waiting for a way to root it that doesn't involve me having to flash it again and starting from scratch.
You may wait a long time. ..
Any method that can root this without using TBH's files will require a new exploit for GB.
Dumb question, since I'm currently running a DINC2. What's the bootstrap? I've still got my old D2G, and want to put it to use now that this is leaked, but need to learn some of the terminology over here.
Thanks!

not gonna happen, currently the only way to get a rooted version on the other moto droids (except the OG droid) are to install a rooted version, theres no way to root from within gingerbread.
Hmm... I didn't know that last part there... I guess I should install the TBH version now then before I do any more customization on it. That way It doesn't hurt so much to SBF again.

so basically no need for the TBH root app?
I've seen that posted on some other sites as well since this morning. Apparently it's the same files from the TBH app. I believe you only needed the app initially to download them and nothing else so now you can flash them on your own.
the rooted version on the tbh app was released first, if you know tbh you know that when they have a leak, they like to release it on the app first, then maybe a day or so later release it to the public, when i made this post it was only available on the app.
I've been asking on My Droid World, but I haven't gotten any replies yet. I need the /system/etc/security/cacerts.bks from the new release, because I altered my cacerts.bks to add CAcert's root and now the checksum doesn't match, and therefore this won't install. Can someone send me their cacerts.bks?
There you go.
But this is from stock 2.4.330 version which I presume is what you actually need for the verification to complete.

[Q] Atrix 4G can i get ICS OTA if i rooted?

ok , so i rooted my Atrix 4g running 2.3.4 . i didnt think i was going to get ICS so i was like ok ...and did it.
however now that i hear that it might come out on the atrix and that because moto was bought by google the chances are higher i was wondering if the root will stop the OTA update and if so is there a way to fix this?????
Thanks for the help i do appreciate it.
If you go back to the stock rom, it will not stop the update.
If you accept the update, you will lose root. If you want to root again, you will have to wait until a root solution is figured out again. And the fact that the atrix is an older phone and the dev community is shrinking, you may not get root again at all.
however accepting the update wont brick my phone? And yes I know its an older phone but im going to wait till quad core phones come out because my phone still can hold up to most duel core devices . and it has the finger sensor. Also I should mention I am still running regular 2.3.4 with moto blur because im one of those odd balls who like it .

It is different for every phone. Most phones won't even receive the OTA notification if rooted.
ugh <.< well if it does actually happen ill figure out exactly how to UN root it and then get ICS and wait till someone discovers a root for that. im sure someone will.
I wouldn't hold my breath for ICS even if Google and Motorola finalize everything by June.
The phone is going on a year old and the ATRIX 2 is probably not going to get the update to ICS in my mind.
I would keep your root and if it does come out then throw a custom rom on and you will be happy because you have ICS and root

How to revert Atrix back to Stock ROM Hi Guys and girls, I have put together this guide to help anyone who decides to install a custom ROM (Like i did), but dislikes it or finds issues and wants to revert the phone back to stock again.
I recently installed 'Gingerblur' and had issues with: GPS dropping signal frequently Security functions not working at all Dialpad not responding when used during a call Refused to set date to UK format (DD/MM/YY) Work and play dock not displaying screens as it should Tricked phone into thinking it was a AT&T handset (My handset is on Orange UK) And a few other niggles.
Please note, I am not saying that everyone will experience all or any of these faults, but I had them and it ruined the enjoyment of the phone.
Ok, so here is a list of what you will need:
Up to date drivers USB and PC Charging Drivers - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA RSDlite 5.3.1 RSDLite5.3.1.msi 7-zip 7-Zip Correct Orange SBF file (Select correct ROM for your network) Atrix Firmwares Superthread (Official Firmware Team of M3) - xda-developers
And you will need the USB lead that came with your handset to guarantee compatability.
Once you have installed the programs above, download your SBF file to a location you can find it on your hard drive.
Once the SBF file is downloaded, open 7-zip and locate the SBF file (name will read something like OLYEM_xxxxxxxxxx.sbf) and extract it to your desktop.
Open RSDlite and select the extracted file, and the 'file properties' box on the right will display all the details about the file.
Turn off your handset (or pull the battery) and press the UP volume button and POWER button together, and hold them both until the phone displays 'Starting RSD protocol support'
Connect the handset to your computer using the USB lead, and the RSDlite should display your handset details. It will either read 'NS olympus' or 'SE olympus'. This is fine, and is evidence that the phone is recognised.
On the RSDlite program, click 'Start' and find something to do for 15 mins.
The SBF flash will go through a number of sequences, and your handset will go on and off as the files are written. You may also hear the PC making the connected/disconnected noises for the USB, but ignore them. Don't mistakenly disconnect the handset or you could brick it.
At the end of the process, you will notice that the phone is turned OFF, and RSDlite is instructing you to manually turn the handset on. Turn it on and it should look the same as it did when you turned it on for the first time.
Please remember.... you are fully responsible for any changes you make to your phone's firmware, and I am only offering a guide to help, not a guarantee that it will help. This is a condensed version of the help I received from das8nt, and it worked for me.
If this has helped you in any way, then please feel free to click on the 'like' button.

[Q] Rooting updated GB Infuse

Okay...
So I accidentally dropped my phone, and it was a TOTAL loss. It would not even power back on. I received the replacement phone today and followed through with the GB update via Kies Mini. Now when I attempt to root the phone, Superoneclick stops responding. Any suggestions?
Check out the threads in the dev forum for info on how to root. You will need to flash a rooted kernel.
I've attempted to root by several different methods, and no matter how many times, or which method I use, it will not root. I made sure that the phone was checked for USD debugging and for unknown resources. Anyone have any suggestions?
Edit: My apologies, as I thought that I posted the thread in the Q&A section where it is supposed to be.

If you want root back, you're gonna need to flash a rooted kernel through Odin. Currently Superoneclick doesn't work on GB. Hope this helps.

There is no root method for stock 2.3.6 yet... period..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
you can root it but gasp, you wont be able to flash the "official" kernel back to it since we cant dump the kernel without root... but you can flash the kl2 leaked kernel to it (same thing) but with sdcard workarounds and voodoo lagfix you need to consider a few things and its alot to say, but why bother, just use the rogers root kernel with cwm to flash a yummy rom from the dev section...
as far as rooting it without a kernel replacement well good luck with that. i will likely make a rooted heimdall package in a few days but it will have the kernel from the leaked rom (same thing) if that scares anyone with their irrational rationalizations...
why heimdall? well the mac users need some love since samsung and att wont give it to them.. its more reliable that that crappy samsung software be it kies or odin. and with the package system introduced in version 1.3 it is idiot proof..
if you must have an odin version make it your self.

...... what's whit these people .....let it go for some time then try ....... I'm sick of these people asking for there problems to ... be solved ASAP
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
weve know this would be a problem for like a year when the rogers infuse came out.
the rogers method works but it's just so many considerations and annoyances to tell people how to do it problem free. you have to assume they can creaet a file to disable the lagfix before hand and that they can extract and compress another file and depending on the kernel they use to root it they may need to edit one charachter of text. it all easy stuff but it becomes a lengthy post explaining it and then the next guy doesnt read what you already answered. ill wait for source code and fully compatible kernels with cwm so we dont have to worry about the extra process of reverting to a stock kernel, till then im burnt out on saying the same thing over and over and over.

new/used atrix soft brick issues.

Just recieved an 865. Came with "lithium 1.3" for the ROM. and had CWM recovery.
So i d/led the new Numa ROM, and flashed it via CWM recovery.
Now Im soft bricked. on the "M" screen
Need a fix that doesnt require a windows computer.
Im no noob to android, I know and prefer adb/fastboot.
But Im reading everyting about FXZin and RSD Lite, flash n Backup. all windows crap.
Lithium is based on 2.3.6 to flash numa you have to already be on a 4.0.4 base which it's built from. Fxz back to stock ota to ics then root and flash numa.
Edit: If you want the option to revert to gingerbread don't update via ota instead follow Jim's guide to ics in the general section.
Thanks man.
So cant flash from GB to ICS via CWM. Thats some BS. knew there was a reason I never got a moto android device. they suck balls.
So reading the guide you stated, it states a 2.3.5 fxz file, but states doing so "from ICS"
I'd think it'd still be safe, but would like to double check.
----------------
No i dont think I can.
God this device is a mess.
I found.
But still would like some clarification.
since I attempted to flash ICS, and soft bricked should I use the ICS to GB fxz or the GB back to stock FXZ?

So if you was on 2.3.6 GB and tried to flash an ICS ROM, then yes you need to use the fxz for GB.
But this will save you a step and put you from GB 2.3.6 to GB 2.3.6 instead of 2.3.5.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32113181
Be sure you grab the correct one though. If you have AT&T grab the 2.3.6 XML. If international, read the notes before getting your version needed.

You should be able to just download RSD lite, download the fxz XML for 2.3.6 to desktop, drag and drop into RSD lite, then put your phone into fastboot mode and then start RSD once it shows device connected. I'm not too familiar with Linux but this will do the trick.
If you insist on using Linux though, maybe someone else can chime in on this.
Sent from my MB865 running a beastly CM10
RSD Lite is Windows only...
Edit: I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu, keeping a Windows OS for things like this. It's a PIA, but does the trick just about every time with the correct .xml files.

Atrix 2 ICS update failed

Hello, I'm new to these forums and I have tried to find a helpful answer to my issue but cannot, so here it goes. I have an Atrix 2 thats running Android 2.3.6, the phone was rooted with SuperOneClick last year. I updated to 2.3.6 OTA and had no problems at all. The ICS update is out I cannot get it OTA. I can download the update then the phone restarts, it appears to start installing but then stops and a triangle with "!" appears and the phone restarts. Once the phone restarts it says "Update Failed".
I have seen several others with the same issue but I do not understand how to fix it. And I am not sure if my stock ROM has been modified either.
I would greatly appreciate some help, I don't understand what I've done wrong here, Motorola says its because the phone is rooted, I've un-rooted it with no luck...

You do NOT use odin on moto phones.
Please take a look here, it will explain all of the ins and outs that you need to know.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650
Updating to ICS on an AT&T phone even without the bloatware is very easy, just flash the ICS FXZ for AT&T, using the latest version of RSD lite.
AT&T ICS FXZ:

You will need to find RSD lite from moto on your own though, as it has been posted in the dev section a few times, and we do not usually link to the moto site since they are like nazi's over there about XDA.

I have it running on my "dev phone" (Galaxy Nexus) right now, and it is nice, but a ton of things are not working yet, so I would not advise trying out just yet. I will try and get it working for the A2 in time, but a few things need be addressed first, mainly that it takes 500+MB of /system space, and the A2 is limited to 475MB in /system, so.... in getting it working, it is a meld between CM10.1 and the ubuntu UI on top of the CM 10.1 device files and drivers, but... to get the 100% real thing ported, will probably not be possible since the a2 has a locked bootloader, and the boot.img is very important to the ubuntu phone os, so.... we will see as time goes on, if I and others in here can get working on the a2 in at least the hybrid with cm10.1 format.
Also you do know that the webtop included with the A2 in 2.3 is ubuntu, right? I have a hack to get all the ubuntu stuff running in webtop, if that is something you might be interested in, but it does not work in ICS. That is why I stayed on leak 1 and never went to the official ICS version, so I could go back to GB for webtop when needed.

I updated mine the day it came out and I had a terrible time with it. The FXZ was not available at the time so I had ATT give me replacement phone. I used 2.3.6 for a little while, then I updated it again. This time though I did a factory reset before updating and everything went great. So I'd recommend doing a factory reset before updating and maybe you will have better luck. Or do as Jim suggested and flash the update yourself with RSDLite.

usually updates fail when bloatware or some other stock apps are removed. I believe the best way to get ICS on your phone is by flashing FXZ. But first we need more info about your Atrix 2. Is it an AT&T branded one?

Yes mine is ATT branded and yes I have removed all the att bloatware with Root Uninstaller once I rooted it.
I honestly don't care what pigs motorola are, I just asked about getting my phone to ICS because I keep getting the update failed message.

Yeah, I have already done a factory reset. Still can't get the OTA update to work. So my only option looks like I need to flash it myself.
One other thing that's completely off subject, One thing I don't like about this forum there are too many restrictions regarding spam...although I understand it needs to be completely filtered and not allowed the admins have too many restrictions on this forum. Why should there be a restriction were a new user has to wait 5 minutes between posts? That makes absolutely no since. (BTW thanks to the admins for the 5 minutes between posts I had to kill, I got to mention this)

As long as it's an ICS FXZ, then yes.

I guess you did some tweaks with it like installing CWM. You remove it and files associated with it, you can take update OTA with no probs (i was through it and finally could take the update like a noob ). An fxz would be a much easier choice.

No, RSD is not showing its connected. This error occurs before I even open RSD lite, I have tried opening RSD and then connecting the phone still windows keeps looking for drivers that it never finds.

Maybe uninstall/reinstall the Moto drivers. Also, which version of RSD lite are you using? I think 6 or greater is recommended.
