Getting Samsung Infuse - Some Questions - Samsung Infuse 4G

Okay guys, so I have decided to sell my nexus s and get the samsung infuse 4g. Some questions I need to ask -
1) I read the specs and found that this phone didn't get the gingerbread upgrade. So if I root this phone and flash a 2.3.6 ROM, I can definitely upgrade it but will I get the TOUCHWIZ 4.0 launcher??
2) How good is the battery for you guys?

battery life is consistantly decent but not exceptional. as an example of what i mean. my captivate could go about 3 days if i ran it down completely but i could also run it down in one day with a lot of web browsing. my infuse seems to last longer under use but i never see the 60+ hours under light use like my captivate.
also you can run the tw 4.5 launcher with no modifications. there may need to be a framework mod and some .jar or .so files needed for the stock tw4 launcher. also not all the funtions of tw4.5 are 100%. lanscape mode can cause crashes last i used it. but if you stick to a conventional setup (4x4 home screen, no weird options) it works pretty good. but the infuse launcher seems to be needed for hdmi support at least on froyo. i havent changed it on 2.3.6 to test it yet. if you dont want hdmi you can run a custom kernel built off 2.3.3 rogers sources with few issues and any launcher you want.

Trying to decide which ROM to go with, hoping it fixes my issues

Ok, I was an early adopter of this phone bought it the day it came out July 18th. There are a great many things that disappoint me about this phone, main thing being lack of Froyo at the moment. I'm tired of waiting for samsung, I have little faith it will truely resolve my issues which are the following
In order to use wifi I must reboot my phone, this only occurred after the official JH7 was loaded on it through the over the air update that ATT did.
Constantly having lag all the time, and having apps running that I never ever use and dont want such as ATT Navigator, ATT Family Map, etc. I was able to root the phone and get rid of those but it really hasnt helped.
My stereo bluetooth headphones must be paired EVERY single time I want to use them, its not the headphones because they work perfectly with 4 other devices.
Of course the GPS, it sucks for everyone, any of these or all fix that? Samsung seems unwilling.
So maybe I'm wishing too much but I've watched almost every youtube review of the ROMs that are out there and theres a few details that stick out for things that I want in a rom so I'll detail them here and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction as to which one has the best combo.
1. froyo based, I need 2.2 for certain apps
2. I've heard theres different modems that can affect HSPA, I want fastest download and upload.
3. No wild color schemes, I dont like orange or green. I quite like the look of the phone I think samsung did a great job with the touchwiz and I know theres alot of you out there that perfer the "vanilla" versions of Android. I'm not one of those people. I really loved the look of the cognition rom and some of the things it had visually.
4. Overclocking would be nice but not at the expense of battery life, I'm right in the 24-30 hour range just as most are on here, better would be great if possible.
Go to romkitchen.org and build your own there. There are many threads about the advantages of one modem over another, and you can pick pretty much everything yourself. Then search for CLShortfuse's GPS fix and you'll be set.
Don't worry, its extremely easy

24-30 hours of what kind of use? There are a couple roms out there with stock appearance
Cognition
Perception
Precision
Andromeda
Docs
30 hours, you have to consider what you are asking. I want faster dl, no lag, better gps, but I don't want to eat any more battery. It is possible to get 30hrs of light to moderate use. Heavy use will yield 12-18
Andromeda v1.2 is a rom that is pretty vanilla....simple and has the things your looking for. You have to try roms that you think will be what you want.

+2 for Andromeda 1.2.
You can fix all of these if you root the phone. The best ROM out there is the Rom Kitchen (aka "Doc's ROMs") over at romkitchen.org. You can "cook up" your own ROMs using the specifications you want. This is what is so great about the ROM kitchen, especially when compared to the other ROMs like Cognition: you can pick what you want, and don't have to take whatever it was that someone else decided was best. For example, if you want the benefits of rooting but want to keep touchwiz, the ROM kitchen has an option for that. It also lets you pick things like the theme, boot animation, apps, etc. There are 5 captivate modems, and you might just have to experiment to see which one is best. I did this, and it was well worth it. The one that worked best for me was the XXJPP modem. Just load a seperate ROM with each of the different modems, flash each, and download a few things to see which is faster. Also check and see how well the GPS works on each.
Rooting will fix the lag, although one of the ROM kitchen kernels (Glitterball's Voodoo) will improve it even further. There is something called "Project Voodoo" which is a community of developers who build a kernel tweak called Voodoo which completely fixes the remaining lag issue (this is caused by the inefficient way the captivate organizes its folders), and also improves a few other features such as resolution.
You should go try out my ROM its small and fast and stable. I'm getting great battery life and DL/UL speeds. Give it a shot.
Here.
Well I decided to go with the serendipity 5.9, I love the speed, my upload and download speeds almost doubled, bluetooth and wifi finally work like they are supposed to!!
I do have a few complaints though, like the keyboard for texting, I loved the samsung one, I hate swipe any way i can get the stock one back on there?

It comes with the Gingerbread keyboard as well.
However, if you're still interested in the Samsung keyboard, it's in here:

I just found that, wow, short of having a flash on the camera and video chat this phone is now everything I could have ever dreamed of
Holy crap what a difference. Everything actually works and is super fast. I would be on cloud nine right now except for the fact I'm probably soon getting the Atrix, this will def hold me over till then.
Im using Precision 3.5 with the monochrome 3.5 theme. Its running the latest suckerpunch kernel. For sure my favorite combo I've tried so far. Its really amazing, not to mention dev'd by ryude, who is one of the best!

Samsung Captivate running Serendipity 5.12 Paragon6 1200-100hz (uv'd and slightly oc'd) and I9000XXJVE modem. Almost have it edited/themed up how I want it. Need to get started on custom icons and I think I want to try my hand at a completely custom framework. Anyway, I was perfectly happy with 'dipity out of the box, but since I've flashed Paragon this phone is AMAZING. It's quite fast and the battery seems to last forever. Just now recharging for the first cycle after having to reflash my rom w/o a full battery, so after today I'll know for sure how long the battery last, but initially it seems like I'll get a day or so with my daughter constantly playing video's and games all day.
I have tried the team phoenix roms. I'm currently running phoenix 7.0 and am happy so far.

I am running phoenix. 7 with latest paragon 1200 rom using uv and this is by far the best combo I have had yet. Using jl3 modem and call quality is great. I change roms almost daily and this one will be here for a while, I am happy with everything this combo has to offer and speed and battery life is excellent.

I wouldn't mind knowing either. I'm thinking it's a different launcher, but I'm only guessing. Still kinda new to android.

[Q] Droid Charge Future

I tried to research this everywhere in the forum but was unable to find anything. So, I apologize if this has already been covered. Additionally, I've tried to research this across the rest of the internet, but I have a few questions:
1.) I really don't care for the way the current touchwiz version looks on the Charge, but I really like touchwiz 4.0, which is running on the Samsung GS2. Does anyone know if the Charge will get touchwiz 4.0?
2.) If it's not going to get touchwiz 4.0, and it doesn't look like I should get this phone if I want Cyanogenmod, but I would be happy with a rom that took it down to stock android. I had an Incredible (before I broke it) that was running Cyanogenmod and loved it. What are the chances of getting a pretty stock version of android running on the Charge?
3.) For those with a Charge running Launcher Pro, how has the battery life been?
Thanks for all the help and sorry if I missed something in the other threads.
We probably will get cm. Recently galaxy phones became supported and the charge really is a galaxy phone just called a Droid.

Development is very slow on the fascinate side. The problem is Samsung code. Also, the new ril is a hack job from my understanding so cm is a ways away.
Getting touchwiz 4.0 is just a matter of porting and I believe that's already done or in the works.

the GSM galaxy s phones have official cm...the fascinate/epic have fairly good unofficial versions...however none of these phones are dealing with lte ril...also they all have a lot more people working on cm for it
so basically cm is a longshot, at best
1. I think that TW4 is coming with Gingerbread, or that is when it may show up. If it doesn't come with the GB update that I'm going to assume we're getting, it can likely be ported over much easier then.
2. We may get AOSP/CM at some point, but it could be a while. I do think that as time passes and more people get the phone, and I and others have more time to work on it, we will get a pretty good debloated ROM that is about as stripped down as possible.
3. I don't think most launchers will affect battery life so much as what you have up as widgets on the launcher. If you have TW up without widgets that require data, you'll probably use less battery than LPP or ADW setup with widgets that require background data. The nice thing about using LPP or ADW compared to TW is that they use a less resources usually, and tend to be more configurable.

New Rom on SamFirmwares.com: I9000XXJVR (2.3.4)

I9000XXJVR is up! Looks like another iteration to follow up JVP and JVQ.
From the post:
"Its a great weekend! SamFirmware released yesterday special bada files...
And today we release some nice firmwares for the Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S II together with DarkyROM.
What are the new roms?
I9000XXJVR and I9100XXKG6.
Both roms running Android 2.3.4"
Running an Apex version.of it right now testing.it.out. Seems pretty stable so far. I am using.it with the i897 gingerbread bootloaders.
Sent from My 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 Captivate Test Phone depending on what Gingergurl I am testing.
As far as I know, Apex (V8.3) is still running JVQ. JVR is new as of this weekend, and I haven't seen any Captivate ROMs incorporate it yet.
Im running it right now and as far as i can tell i have no reboots and this morning i took it off the charger with 98 battery. No charge bug i dont think....at least not yet. Im using darkcore with ext4 by the way.
The csc is not jvr,(was not included in the leak) so this one is from jvq so it's kind of incomplete as a whole and is a hybrid of the 2. And deodexing breaks the browser, it doesn't show up as installed even though all the files are in place.
Don't flash ROMs not designed for your phone. That's the number one cause of bricks here on this forum. It takes special handling to go back to the way things were.

I totally understand where your coming from. But in my defense i am currently running it with the i897 ginger bootloaders and.not having.any issues so far. Plus this is my test/backup phone.
I cannot add the android 2.3 keyboard i usually use since.it not a deodexed.rom yet. I have read about the browser breaking if it is deodexed. I even ran for a bit with the tegrak overclocking app and.it seemed.to work. Again it is my test phone so i like messing around and seeing what.i can do with it. The test i got already has put out a small update to add the battery mod. Looking forwad to more.testing.

Do you think we will get touch wiz 4 in an update?

I doubt we will , samsung doesn't care nor does any other manufacturer, not even the droid x2 or the photon is running the new motorola application like the droid 3

There is a TW4 launcher you can install but it's VERY buggy, I installed the apk and about 15 minutes later just reflashed Eclipse to get rid of it. I knew my homepages would get reset but i couldnt handle the amount of glitches.
On topic, we probably won't get TW4; in-fact we probably won't even get ICS but we can hope. They did just release and OTA for TW4 to some tablet(not sure which one) so....

I only had a couple of minor bugs with TW4.5, certainly nothing that was a deal breaker. I've been running it for a couple of weeks now and am very happy with it. I'm just running a stock deodexed EE4 ROM that I debloated to my liking. Different people have different experiences with it. It's a keeper for me, though.
I use TW4 and it works perfect, well mine does at least. I always use the stock apps but re-imaged them so they have the same icons as TW4. Works good.

I used it on Froyo and did not like its alignment , but with GB EP1Q its resolved.
What bugs did you find in them?
As far as I know, TW4 is meant for Samsung's SGS2 lineup, and is built around the hardware offered in the newer device. Doubt they're going to back-port it themselves.

How to optimize the I9023?

Hey guys!
I'm new to android and just got my I9023 on tuesday this week.
Before the Nexus S i had a samsung wave s8500 and i was absolutely dissatisfied with the bada OS, so i switched to the Nexus S and i like it!
All i want is to optimize my smartphone -> the best possible battery usage, a stable and fast system.
Plus the control over apps, don't want crap like facebook app being able to send sms (lol)
(there are so many possibilties with android, so much to read etc. didn't know where to start, so i though "just start your own thread on here!"
and here i am!
As you can see, i'm a quite simple guy.
All i did until now was to download apps i wanted to have, like whatsapp and stuff like that + go launcher ex and the touchwiz 4 theme (as i came from bada i'm used to touchwiz style and i liked and still like that actually). What i also did was to get a new keyboard (Go keyboard) because i did not like the stock keyboard.
that's all i did. not much if you ask me.
So what can i do, to get the most out of my new nexus? (most important would be a good battery life)
custom rom? some other kernel? and if, what custom rom? what kernel?
are there any, that are good for battery life and still get me a smooth running, fast system? (stock version does work quite fast, fast enough for me atleast)
Any app suggestion, that could bring some improvement, too would be appreciated.
what about root? i know i need it for the apps permissions.
would method would be the best? i saw a working 1 click version, which seems promising.
and if i do root, do i need to do it again if ice cream sandwich is released? (which should be in early december, which is almost here )
well i thought about all that. should i wait till ICS? if i need to flash new roms, root again, save all my stuff for what i want and then need to do it again because of ICS, that sure would suck a lot.
And as i am here, my display sucking up 54%, is it normal? seems quite high to me and i already reduced the brightness manually to the lowest... :/
i get my phone at 100% battery power around 7:30 in the morning and it's almost dead now, at about 22:30 (i live in germany , even if it's new and the battery is still not on it's highest capacity, that's seems quite much. and i did not use it like crazy.
Any advice? I would greatly appreciate your help!
Thanks a lot!
Man i wrote a lot, hope someone can get me some help!
check trinity or lucid kernels + cyanogenmod or MIUI
Sent you an PM
if you wanna have longest battery life , then stock ROM may have it , at least it seems to me
about optimization , i have been here for 2,3 moths , but i didn't see much tweak , only one about HSDPA network connection ... so my suggestion is use some ROM that alread tweaked , like Brainmaster's MIUI
Check your pm, because i may just be repeating here but i think the best thing to do is research how to get fastboot working, then execute
fastboot oem unlock
Then download clockwork mod recovery from the market, flash the recovery, download a ROM then reboot to recovery and install it. I think most people would recommend oxygen for battery life and speed
Try this one http://db.tt/LaL8bmc4
