Referring to the announced WinCE-based EP2501 watch phone / this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393226 I wanted to ask if there are already implementations of Windows CE/Windows Mobile for watches or similar devices? For the EP2501 they seem to use a customized WinCE, if the pictures of a prototype I found on gadgetcraver (http://www.gadgetcraver.com/worldsfirstwindowsmobilewristwatchphone-p-177.html) are adequate, that is (not that it would seem to be finished yet). Now if only you could use WM-apps without much hassle...

Just found some new pictures of the EP2501 on centraltronics.es (http://centraltronics.es/tienda/pro...d=125&osCsid=21c4919626513ca030bc8c1b3b193942). It seems to be exactly the same prototype as seen on gadgetcraver.com, though. The clock shows a different time on the photos from these two websites, btw, so it really seems to be a working prototype...

Update: I found a tidbit somewhere that says the newest video driver updates should be cooked into the newest ROMs.. but how do I figure out which ones have all the bug patches and hacks installed, and etc. like I mentioned above? I know there USED to be a list of pre-cooked ROMs, but I can't find it now.
Hmm.. Am I maybe thinking of a list of pre-cooked ROMs for the Wing, or some other HTC? If I am, I'm DEFINITELY going to need some ROM recommendations.

he DOESN'T WANT a cooked rom he is looking for a pre-cooked rom.
@op did you check the kaiser wiki or htc's website?? 'cuz that is where you will find all the latest roms for your device that aren't cooked by a chef.
Also, look around for mbavrian's Kitchen Elements.
The "Base ROMs" on which our Chefs makes their gourmet meals are difficult to locate. Some chefs refuse to share like little playground children.
Others, Like NotATreoFan, have released their base for other people to use to make ROMs. Great Contributors.

Actually I DO want a custom 'Cooked' ROM. My main purpose of reflashing the ROM is to get rid of all known bugs and bloatware. So I WANT all the custom registry hacks and patches to make everything run smoothly. I want the hacked video drivers (as they appear to currently be stable) and etc..
SO.. I'm looking for:
1) 6.1 OS with fast drivers and all known hacks and patches to have as few bugs as possible. UNLESS 6.1 has introduced some known bugs that can't be fixed (wouldn't surprise me with an MS product). IF there's a bug free FASTER version 5 OS, that will run on the Tilt, I'll be happy with that. One time I installed Win95 on a 1.6Ghz T-bird. Power on to fully loaded desktop was like 2 seconds flat.
2) bloatware removed so as to free up space, and I assume cleaning crap out of the registry wouldn't hurt with speed. Is there a system cache, and would it be beneficial to move it to the SD card? I've read that moving the IE cache to the SD card is asking for trouble, not sure that there's a concensus on that or if it's just opinion though.
OK.. that's going to get confusing. Scratch that and start over:
1) All known bugs hacked or patched.
2) All known speed enhancements (that don't compromise system integrity).
3) Rip out MS (or HTC ..or both?) crapware that COULD be replaced with faster / more functional counterparts.
4) Optional: pre-installed or at least packaged (cab?) applications to enhance functionality. My priority in applications is utility enhancement. Example: I can download 200 Flash / Java / MAME games to the SIM card some day if I get bored, don't need it in the OS. However, if there's a remedial photo editing utility that will allow me to edit my pics before I upload them somewhere, I want it.

I suppose I could try to gather all the available info into a giant spreadsheet, but the fact that about half the ROMs link out to a feature list is slightly discouraging. I think dutty's list of registry hacks ends in '.. and a bunch of other stuff I forgot', which is TERRIBLY discouraging (when trying to compare features).
Anyway, sorry if I'm rambling on here. Please don't take anything I'm saying as judgemental, I'm sort of thinking out loud trying to decide how best to proceed.
Say, has anybody considered building a CVS tree of sorts? I don't suppose you could have actual CODE stored in a repository without violating some sort of copyright or reverse engineering crap.. but a list of known code changes and etc. would seem to be a good idea. Since neither MS nor HTC has stepped up to the plate over the years, due to corporate greed, some sort of XDA-Dev code change tracking system seems like 'the last best hope' to get a decent OS. Ever.
That's why I'm jumping ship to try out the G1 after this. I don't believe MS will ever invest the effort to give us a 'business class' reliable bug free solution. ..let alone one that's innovative or even exceptional. They're style would lead me to expect them to wait till we have 800mhz handhelds, then 'patch' over top of everything they don't like to make it appear to behave better. ..and of course they would deem it necessary to add another programming layer to the OS to 'increase functionality' (read: bog down the OS).

I guess my bottom line questions are, Is there a more complete list of ROMs anywhere I should be using? ..or one which already compares all the features, so I don't have to?

Hmm.. there is no Windows Mobile revision list is there? I have no way of knowing which older versions would be good, and when bug patches were introduced and etc.

I've never seen one and I don't believe one exists. You'll just have to do your own research.

You have to spend some time and TRY each ROM and see which one is suited for you.
Again, READ and spend time.
Read WIKI especially.
There is no 100% perfect ROM even if it is official one.

I'm heading for the aspirin bottle just now. I spent like 3 hours reformatting the info on the wiki page into a spreadsheet.. when I discovered that some of the authors are still releasing, but it's not on the list!

I currently own a stock RC30 UK T-Mobile Dream phone. I have come to terms with the fact that I dont have root access (yet) and have purchased a new ADP1, which hopefully will arrive next year.
When it does finally arrive I plan to make a generic build of RC30/RC8 firmware without all the T-Mobile junk in the ROM (web'n'walk etc) and no default APN's/MMS/etc. I have read through the re-packing sections etc and it seems possible to do without a lot of effort.
My question is; would this be something that other users would be interested in using? If so would you like to see it posted on these forums? Also, please post any comments with any functionality you would like to see added (default apps etc).
i think if you can incorporate new features into the rom such as auto rotate browser or any other tweaks to improve the G1, I'd think it'll be extremely popular. Case in point custom cooked Windows Mobile roms on this forum.
default apps is probably a hit or miss situation. I would stick to the only essentials (ie: Klaxon for alarm clock).
Good idea. We need to start building custom ROM's like all the other WM phones... Here's how I would go about building an Android ROM:
1. Start off with a generic build of android from source. Obviously include all the drivers for the dream.
2. Make a nice, clean skin. If you have knowledge of C/Java, don't be afraid to mess with visual structure of the platform,.
3. Add all the proprietary Google APK's (GMail, Calender, Amazon MP3 etc).
4. Add some 3rd party APK's based on user popularity. (Steel, Power Manager, Locale etc)
5. Add some hacks that require root (auto-rotate, improved tethering functionality)
Yes this will be very interested. All i need is to get bloody root!!! Soon though. Theres alot of smart cookies here
And rework the basic features such as sms's mms's picture viewer. contacts section ( add more input data points. like WM offers )
i guess as any rom you will never please everybody but i agree with "Datruesurfer" steel is a great app.
Onscreen keyboard like in steel or such its not to big and small. but a system wide onscreen keyboard. working in a very dirty industry the onscreen keyboard comes in.
Some other programs i find invaluable and should be an option in the default Android or i at least i really thinks so. are Smspopup, Missed call, Dgaway,Dgprefs, Rings Extender.
Power Manager as well is a good program to help better manage the battery and default network settings.
if there is a way to rework those and remove the default browser and add such options into the android rom itself i would be very pleased.

It'll probably require some form of MAM (Mobile Application Management) product to be able to manage the applications within this 'sandboxed' environment. Applications will probably need to be specifically written to utilise it so its probably early days yet mate.

Working for a large organisation that requires this level of security - I requested further information from samsungs website but havn't had a single response yet. I'm assuming its still in development.

But Im not working in that environment. Its more like I want to keep my personal data apart from the enterprise environment.So, I want to have my business data under KNOX and personal data on the normal Interface like shown on this video.

And on the box itself, it DOES have the "SAFE" on it. (Samsung For Enterprise)
That vid is a very brief overview mate. Looking at the feature list for knoxx it seems to me to be an enterprise level function. Integration with Active Directory, single sign-on and other MDM products sort of implies that, thats what it will work with and not just for normal end users.
For normal end users - it would just be 'another profile' feature which I don't see much benefit for, as android phones/devices tend to be personal devices. However for the enterprise where we regularly deploy BYOD solutions and corporate devices it seems much more fitting
Sorry bud - probably not what you wanted to hear but until we get further information from them theres not much we can do to utilise it (i'm sure i've seen a knoxx.apk on our devices already)......
If anyone else knows anything else it would be great to hear from them.....
PS - You might want to recommend either Excitors DME product or Good's BYOD one to your IT department
I also work at a large enterprise shop and we are looking at deploying Samsung devices with the Knox functionality. However, I read somewhere that the Knox software was not ready for the worldwide release of the Galaxy S4. It will be available later in the summer on the Galaxy S4 (later for other Samsung devices) on what I assume will be a firmware update. So there is no way to get it on your device right now. Hope this helps.

And it offers no value to an individual user even if they managed to get it set up. For basic remote device management Find my Mobile (ex-Samsung Dive) offers what most users are looking for without all the complexity.
Ok, well thats that...
Anyway, even if I did have it installed and working on my phone, then I would be concerned of more memory use and more battery drainage with this KNOX feature enabled.
Think about it, its like running two versions of Android on ONE phone. So this might be draining even more battery.

Good news for me and for the android community, my company decided to replace all blackberry devices by android devices (Normally by 3 model Samsung.)
Of course, this must be done quickly.
We have around 1000 devices to replace.
My question is : How can we create a "master" to industrialize the process ?
One device needs a lot of "tuning". Like applications of course, launch bar shortcut, desktop to personnalise... I guess one device need at least 45 minutes to be ready for the user. This is not really good
We have BES10 has a MDM. But as you know, BES10 can't totally manage Android devices.
Is there a way to clone a device ? With all applications and custom settings ?
