I've only had my G2x 2 months and it was manufactured 8/11/11 accirding to the box and I haven't had any bugs that were brought up when it first came out I.e screen bleed random boots etc.
The rom weapon G2x has the LG 3.0 cam that you can flash and its almost as nice as the cam on mt4g slide

I didn't get the G2x when the phone came out but I bought about 3 months ago with the gingerbread update pre-installed already and I had a good experience with it (it hasn't rebooted or frozen on me) I actually kept it stock for quite a while before starting to hack it, and about the mytouch slide...it does have a dual-core processor clocked at a higher speed than the G2x but the g2x is still pretty significantly faster than the mytouch slide because the slide is bogged down by sense and the Tegra 2 chipset on the G2x is more powerful than the Qualcomm chipset found on the mytouch slide.

Slightly old thread but I'll reply. My first phone came with GB pre-installed and it failed after 8 days. I sent it back and I got a phone back with a bleeding screen and it sometimes randomly resets. I was pretty upset at first but after doing my homework, it seems lots of people are having problems with screen bleed even today. While I think that is a bad decision as far as QC, I think I'll deal with it. As far as the random resets, I thought I would send my phone back in but I think I'll just wait for an OS update. I'm counting on the ICS release and I hope they don't fail me. I don't want to flash/root this phone yet because this is the only phone I've ever seen in real life (not on the internet) fail. I think I just got a bad luck of the draw.
If you get a working one, which it seems you likely will should you purchase it now, it is a good phone otherwise. The camera isn't bad at all, it doesn't have auto focus but you can still focus and take good pictures. The camera is still very dark though so you'll end up using flash where other cameras wouldn't need to. Install Launcher Pro on it and it will run smooth as silk. It has some pretty neat Tegra games too.

G2x or Sensation?

So I have a G2x sitting in my shopping cart on tmo(not upgrading paying outright so no contract extenstion) and I'm faced with a huge choice. Do I buy the LG now or wait for the sensation? Like sense but always run cm for speed so every phone that I had that came with sense stock always was replaced with cm. There are pros and cons to both phones
htc sensation:better display and bigger(I actually like smaller screens)
g2x: more internal memory but less ram
htc is 1.2ghx and the g2x is 1.
It's such a hard choice to make. So my question is for those of you who got the g2x why did you get it instead of waiting for the sensation? What reasons did you have on going with the g2x as opposed to waiting for the htc? I really dont know if I should get the g2x or wait it out a bit. I am itching to hit that "complete order" button on the g2x though
I'd be coming from a mytouch 4g

I don't own a G2X, only played with one alongside my NS for a bit. I don't really know that you're going to notice a huge difference in speed coming from your Glacier on CM7 at 1.5ghz ...it's a really fast phone. Are there some other features you feel like your missing with the Glacier that you could get from the G2X?
Edit: I don't have a G2x in my cart, but I'm itching too as well...!
I was waiting for the Sensation....but I only made it 4 hours on the 15th before giving in and ordering online.
Only thing I like better about the sensation is the qHD display...but the G2X screen is still nice.
I also didnt want a huge screen phone that hardly fits in your pocket, the G2X size is good.
Well, I guess I'll just list my reasons out.
1. I, like you, don't like 4.3" screens, 4" is perfect for me and the display on the G2X is fantastic, even at 800x480 resolution.
2. I figured the .2 difference in ghz wasn't a big deal considering the resolution difference in the phones, 960x480 vs 800x480. As we've all seen, the G2X smokes the Atrix because of resolution alone, despite the 512mb ram difference.
3. Ram isn't going to make the phone run any better as we've already seen in Atrix vs G2X. It will help if your running tons of intensive apps at once, but it shouldn't be making much a difference 90% of the time.
4. A lot of devs are on the fence on supporting the sensation due to locked bootloaders. Even Cyanogen has said that they may not be supporting because of that very issue. And dev support is VERY important to me.
5. HDMI Mirroring on the G2X. This feature may also be on the sensation, but I haven't heard of it yet.
In all, I'm very happy I got the G2X. It runs like a champ and that's on Froyo. I can't wait till Cyanogen7 comes out.
P.S. The Optimus 2X has already been overclocked to 1.3 and 1.4 ghz if that means anything to you.
Hope this helps man. Good luck with whatever you get.
I never want a phone that has Sense on it.
Simple choice.
Well I got it because I'm a phone junkie. And I will be getting the sensation as soon as it drops. The G2x is a great phone much better than the vibrant and when it get GB it will be better than the nexus s.

Thanks for that man! Is that true that Cyanogen really might not support the sensation? Dev support is also very important to me. I never rely on carriers, always the community. I too am iffy about a 4.3 inch screen. I think my screen on my mt4g is pretty big enough for me especially since I have two android tablets for when I need a bigger screen android experience

Every sense phone I have had has only had sense on it for a first few minutes out of the box. I love sense for it's eye candy but it's such a resource hog. So I always replace sense with CM
Overall you guys are happy with the g2x? build quality is solid? any issues like bad displays or any nonsense like that?
Im in the same boat. im kinda leaning towards waiting though. The g2x is an awesome device but the larger and higher res screen on the sensation is enough to make me hold off.

if this is indeed true then i would get the g2x also. higher res screen (960x540) is nice but not as important as dev support. Btw, where did you read that cyanogen might not support it?
I'm still going back and forth if I'm going to order it or wait.. part of me really wants to just click that order button.. god I think I've made much more important decisions quicker than this one..

Honestly the g2x is an amazing device and couldn't see myself using the sensation for the sole reason of just sense. I had a mytouch 4g for about 2 days and returned it for the g2 all because of sense. Now from the g2 I'm on the g2x and couldn't be happier. It's a choice you have to make but to completely honest it will be one you won't regret

So all these hours that I've been deciding... I decided to do it. It was in stock when I first put it in my cart, when I went to check out it said it wasnt available for immediate shipment. I looked at the main site and sure enough, it was out of stock Guess I will be calling the closest store in the AM seeing if they have any in stock. After looking at some vids of the sensation I think it's just too big for me. I think the biggest I would go is 4" Hope I can pick one up tomorrow
Hopefully! I'll tell you now my store was pretty well stocked and I was there about 2 hours after they opened. Funny thing is the sametime I was going in I counted about 5 or 6 other people going in for the same thing...good luck! =P

I'm personally waiting on the sensation I have a g2x its a nice phone I only use it for HDMI mirroring only use for me. I'm not scared of lock bootloader just be harder to crack. People said the g2 was unhackable and look at it now. Motorola signs thiers and uses encryption. The thunderbolt was hacked as well. If their is enough support it will be broken. Alot of developers are going still get this phone. The evo3d will be hacked as well once either phone is hacked well have an opening.

Thinking of getting rid of Sensation for g2x....

The sensation is a great phone, but there are some things that bother me about it. Sense 3.0 is just too much...uses too many resources. The screen is decent, but I still can't figure out why the g2x screen I saw in person looks better (maybe because the g2x is an IPS screen?), and the speaker on the sensation is terrible (how is the speaker on the g2x)?
I've been reading that the official gingerbread update has (so far) fixed some issues that the g2x had, which is why I'm thinking about making the switch.
Any opinions on this?
honestly as this recent leak is, cm7 is still better and more stable with alot of extra features, until t-mo releases the official ota with upgraded baseband and upgraded to a gingerbread kernel, this update is still inferior to cm7 imo
gingerbread is still far off, if this is the latest rom LG has, then i wouldnt say its close to being pushed to t-mo for review wich still leaves us a few months away from anything official, unless they really plan to make the final update run on a kernel that doesnt even fully support the tegra 2 chip.

Both phones are great. Had the G2x but switched it out for the sensation. I have no regrets because the G2x was very problematic. I guess I was one of those unlucky ones that got a bad g2x (reboots, freezes, shutdowns, etc).....and I had 2 G2x and both phones were bad and I didn't want to wait for the update lol. However, a working nondefective G2x is a beast phone nonetheless. It's faster than the sensation imo.
The sensation on the other hand is also a great phone. And im Lucky that I got a nondefective one from the start. I prefer the sensation over the G2x but it all comes down to the user itself.
Im not boasting or bragging or putting down any phone, just stating my personal experiances with these phones.
Hope you get the phone you want...

The g2x is an awesome gaming phone with all the tegra games and stuff.
The sensation i feel is a little more boring but more reliable and professional looking. Also i noticed that by disabling sense and the bloatware that cane with the phone, ive been able to make it as fast if not faster than the g2x. Specially the browsing. I dont have the problem where it takes a while for the browser to open abd once it opens its seems to reopen the last website, which i belive was due to my g2x running low on memory.

I traded my g2x for a sensation, them back to the g2x. The g2x is way better..
Sensation wifi was horrid..
Kept my G2X but use my Sensation as my daily driver. The only time I really pick the G2X up is to play Tegra games or flash ROMS. Like someone else said, if you keep Sense on the Sensation, your phone will be laggy. HTC did a horrible job of optimizing the new version of Sense. If you load ADW on the Sensation, the UI will become as fast, if not faster than the G2X. Loading apps, using Google maps and browsing the web has always been faster on the Sensation than on the G2X whether your running Sense or not. Getting rid of Sense and stopping it from running makes the UI as responsive as one could get.
Can't go wrong with either phone. I didn't have a bad experience with either of them (until I loaded GB onto my G2X). Some people had a bad experience with the G2X and went to the Sensation. Some people had a bad experience with the Sensation and came back to the G2X. To each his own.

Well, looks like I'm keeping my sensation.
Installed launcherpro, and for some reason it even opens up apps quicker now (even though sense 3.0 is still there running in the background). I also love the fact that I can still use the sense 3.0 lockscreen with launcherpro. Phones feels like an entirely new beast now.

Yea man...Sense sucks anyway. The only things good about it is the lock screen, sms app, contacts and email. Everything else is just annoying eye candy. Good part about using a launcher is you get to keep all of that without the eye candy.
Check your available memory now. It should be somewhere around 300. Also, if you think LP is fast, check out ADW.

If you are a developer then get the G2x, but if you are looking for a overall solid phone for day to day use, keep the Sensation. But if you don't etheir one, then can't go wrong with either phone. The Sensation is more powerful as it uses a better GPU.
The screen on the sensation is superior in some ways, just overall looks sharper and alot more more detail. But the G2x, colors look more vibrant.
WiFi issue I notice to, if you touch around the top area and when signal is fair, then drops, but with a stonger signal, not as bad. Notice it doesn't affect the other radio's inside.
But the G2x seem quicker, but battery last more longer on the sensation, I guess theirs tradeoff's ethier way you look at it.
Long term Sensation is a better choice, In quadrant test score lower due to screen resolution is higher and does affect the score, but CPU/GPU is better in the Sensation as it use a powerful 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor with Adreno 220 GPU, which is known to outpreform the Nvidia terga 2 chipset, only thing lacking is the ram which is 768MB LPDDR2, which is good, they sure have when to 1gb. Alot of people think the Samsung Galaxy s2 is going to be faster, it's not, it only use a Adreno 205 GPU, but the ddr II 1gb ram helps but screen resolution also make a big different, put the same screen in all and see who wins?
I didn't have any problems with my G2X to begin with, but updated to the GB update and it runs even quicker and the battery life is also better.
One thing that deterred me from getting the Sensation was the locked bootloader and only 1gb of internal memory. Not all apps can be moved to the SD card. Plus I think the G2X looks sexy with it's curved Gorilla glass edges and sleek body. stock Vanilla is a big plus, and the dual speakers at the bottom of the phone and not on the back that get's muffled was another deciding factor. HTC always has crappy sounding speakers.

might trade my g2x for a mytouch 4g slide

like the titles says, im thinking of doing the trade when the phone comes out.
what are your thoughts of the MT4G slide? and should i do it?
i had the mytouch 4g and in my thoughts was one of the best phones i had.
also like to add the phone comes with netflix preloaded already, and the g2x has nothing yet.
If you love the option of having a keyboard then I say go for it. The myTouch Slide 4g will most likely continue to get updates in opposed to the G2x since LG is struggling with the software update. Its so sad that this hardware is being wasted by lack of good development on LG's part. The G2x is a great phone hardware wise, but it will easily be left behind if LG doesn't release some grade A software.

Well it's got good specs and htc makes good phones. Just depends if you want a little smaller of a screen and a thicker phone due to the physical keyboard.
And what's this about G2x not having netflix? I watch netflix all the time on my phone... Check the themes/apps section.

i know you an get netflix to work by rooting and installing a new rom, i have done it. but the roms are unstable to me and need more polishing. so i go back to stock each time.
i dont think i would mind the smaller screen sort of reminds me when i had the g2 days. also i think the specs are up to par with the g2x and im hearing the camera might be better and also records 1080p.
the one thing i might miss is the hdmi even though i only used it like 2 times its still a good feature.
also i like to add that my g2x is flawless, no reboots, no screen bleed, no over heating etc.
Sad Netflix has you by the balls...

question on flash
I watched one of the youtube reviews of the 4G slide and it showed that the flash wasn't working when they went to a WEB site. The reviewer mentioned it, so does this mean that the 4G slide isn't supporting Adoble Flash?
the mytouch 4g slide is probably the only legit mytouch there wil be it is running on Sense 3.0 and the camera app is AMAZING! ive never been a fan but this phone def. will be good.

I watched one of the youtube reviews of the 4G slide and it showed that the flash wasn't working when they went to a WEB site. The reviewer mentioned it, so does this mean that the 4G slide isn't supporting Adoble Flash?

Of course it will support flash. The myTouch 4g which is the version before the myTouch 4g Slide played flash video/content.

Oddly enough, I am also considering the "myTouch 4G Slide" as a replacement for my G2x. Granted, the G2x is a great phone (so was the HD2), and CM7 is pretty good even for nightly builds, but I seriously wonder how much effort LG and T-Mobile will put into supporting this phone as it has more than likely cost them bundle.
I left the HTC family for the Samsung Vibrant and then to the LG G2x. Those were my two big mistakes. I really liked my HTC phones and it's about time I went back "home"... especially now that HTC has officially stated that they will unlock their bootloaders.
My options are between the Sensation and the mT4G-Slide and the "real" keyboard is swaying me towards the latter even if it's a notch below the Sensation ;-)
Yea the phone is going to have flash, but I have no use for it. I'm really considering getting the phone because the MT4G was a solid phone and never had trouble with it. But seeing that the g2x has no Netflix and you need to root and flash a new rom to get it to work. I think I'm sold with the MT4G slide having stock Netflix 1.2 CPU and a keyboard.

Here's a Mobile Tech Review http://www.mobiletechreview.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Number=40970
The screen may be 3.7", but when using the keyboard you will have the entire screen for viewing. If you think about it, virtual keyboards take up half your screen.

i know you an get netflix to work by rooting and installing a new rom, i have done it. but the roms are unstable to me and need more polishing. so i go back to stock each time.

Gonna have to disagree with you on the whole unstable roms statement. Almost any recent version of roms for this phone are stable and very usable. Even the CM7 nightlies are very stable.
G2x - July baseband/radio, Cm7 Nightlies, Faux OC/uv Kernel, Launcher Pro, Straight Beast Status! No Bugs! Smooth as my ps3 or 360 on gaming... gameloft is making some killer gamez... I love this phone... It's a sense or no sense issue if you ask me... I like both.. My last phone was the htc glacier i gave to my momma, it was a good phone... I wanted a senseless device and im glad i got this one.. not another 6-8 months down the road when the next 1.3+ Ghz batch of phones comes out i might go back to sense, but im completely content where im at right now with the g2x with the games and now netflix... dont get no better.. maybe the sgs2 but that's the most powerful phone in the world as far as buyin out the store... but the sensation.... NO!
Well seems netflix is a major selling point but every talks like we'll never officially support netflix.
Netflix are *****es anymore and they pick and choose which who gets what. Even the Asus transformer doesn't officially support it. Big deal though. All they have to do is add the device tag to the supported device list and we'd be good.
It will happen sooner then later though. I can't see netflix on a phone though aside from managing your queues which is what I do now.
Between the two phones though its between keyboard and power. My sis had a MT4G and she loves it.
But I'd wait it out for a few more weeks. See what's up with the Slide before jumping ship. Lots of people did that for the sensation and ended up regretting it. HTC may unlock bootloaders but look at the sensation. The slide may be locked down too.

Switching out Mytouch 4g for G2x

Just wondering if anyone on here has switched from the MT4G (the HTC version, not the latest re-mytouch release) to the G2x.
My MT4G has been having issues with mechanical buttons crapping out.
I know if I get another MT4G, I could get one with a crappy screen, misaligned FFC, creaky button, etc.
I know the G2x also has some issues with reboots, GPS, battery, etc.
Any thoughts on whether I should stick with MT4G or not?
I switched from mt4g to g2x. Hated the mt because of the mt ui, including wasted search button. Hardware did feel more robust than g2x at the start but g2x is entirely adequate. My g2x has factory GB and I have not had any of the publicized problems with it at all. Used Launcher Pro to remove the few bloatware icons from the app tray. Phone feels faster than mt, and I've grown to like the touch buttons for menu, home, etc.
It is true the camera app on the g2x stinks compared to the Froyo version, although good pictures are possible nevertheless. Maybe that app will be improved on ICS.

i think they are the same. Both have hardware problem. G2x has dual core but only 512mb ram, mytouch has single core but 768mb ram. G2x has bad support from LG...The point here that tmobile offer g2x for just $100, so g2x is definitively a good choice .
Yah the nice thing about G2X is that its pure AOSP android that doens't come with any manufacturers take of different skins or home launchers. Its just the basics.
If you want something like the G2X has you would have to go with a AOSP rom like Royal Ginger for MT4G. Basically you would want a Senseless ROM.
As for physical keyboard those problems of it going out has always plagued these types of phones. I remember my sprint mogul needed like 3 keyboard replacements LOL
i came from a mytouch 4g which i just gave to my gf. the g2x is a big different in terms of speed in every day use. i think the g2x is much better overall even with its issues. the only thing the mytouch 4g has that i think is better is the camera picture quality. i think pics look better but the g2x video is much better. also the mytouch 4g is more dependable phone imo. ive had 3 g2x phones till i finally got a good one. so i think u would love the g2x. u will love the speed of it and u will love it much better with gaming or using the hdmi out.
edit: also i have no issues with gps and i never have and i have no issues with battery. my battery last a long time for a duel core phone.
Broke my mt4g (power button stopped working, pulled it apart and ruined it) and got a g2x. Haven't looked back. Had my doubts about an LG android phone but the g2x is solid
Can't go wrong with dual core

thanks for the info guys...
I too have some doubts to LG since they dont have good support, etc, but I'll just run CM7 on G2x and be good. Currently using Royal Ginger on MT4G.
Been really disappointed with HTC quality lately so hopefully, the G2x should be good.
Well alongs your not having random reboot issues like earlier g2x users had then your pretty much golden no matter what rom you use.
I would try out fauxs Aosp GB rom that is based on stock OTA rom and cm7 code. Pretty much a middle of the road rom till ICS is perfected for us.

How is the G2X treating you?

i have had the g2x for a while
and it is a great phone!
love it!
but im kinda coming from a Mt4g, im missing sense :[
anyways,
i just wanted to start a thread asking users....
HOW IS YOUR G2X TREATING YOU?
Mine has been flawless, (little screen bleed) got it 4/20, its just tha everybody and they mama got a g nexus makes me itch for one, other than that patiently awaiting ics.
NVIDIA NEVER AGAIN!
Never eva again lol

I love my g2x it was the phone i really wanted to get coming from a g1, but i settled for a mt4g first(also a great phone btw) Theres not really any other phone i would be interested in except maybe the epic 4g touch on sprint, but now that ive already decided not to go that route and wait to see what beasts of phones come out early to mid next year i have grown to appreciate my G2x even more since ICS will unlock all of our phones true potential and prolong its staying power.
I will admit some specs of the galaxy nexus are decent but the main dealbreaker for me is its no external sdcard. I feel like Samsung gimps the nexus line of phones so they can put most of their ideas and technology into their own galaxy s devices. The 1200x720 resolution display is awesome but i can achieve that as well on my g2x with lcd resolution or lcd density apps. HTC needs to make the next Nexus imho as they did the best job of all three so far.

This phone is just a misunderstood beast
If we had the proper support of source codes or drivers im sure this thing could of gone to the moon and back, but that's neither here nor there. In my experience and still to this day im glad i chose this phone. I probably be like others and really hate it if i had the reboot issues and etc though.

I got mine used about 2 months ago, and while I had some minor problems at the beginning, I wouldn't trade it for anything else in T-Mobiles lineup.

I like it much more after finding this website and flashing a rom. It has some sweet power, but LG's quality control is... lacking.
Not to hijack, but how long does cell phone hardware last? Does the cpu, internal memory, etc go after a year or 2 or should it work for a long time?
Well, the phone, hardware wise is great, and throw in a custom ROM and kernel, you're good!
I love this phone. And when ICS comes out it'll unlock even more potential.
i have no major complaints about this phone except for the fact that i have to restart it twice a day because it gets "bogged down" too quickly. i don't even use many apps so it should be able to handle my light usage a lot better. once i restart it, it's perfect for like the next twelve hours :|

cant use it as a phone lol
everything works great i get a slight popping sound in call drives me nuts brand new only used for 3 days so i use my nokia 3711 no reboots or or anything
To be honest, I liked my Nexus One better than this phone. Tech specs were (are?) beast when it first came out, but due to software limitations it's pretty much outdated at this point. Maybe I am hating on it too much but it's just not perfect in my opinion.
Bought mine in June and loved it! and currently, still loving it! im one of the Blessed few that got a perfectly working G2x out of the box minus (a instalock functioning GPS) which is now fixed thanks to the updated baseband. this phone is a SPEED demon. with all the necessary accessories to keep it cutting edge HDMI, 8MP Cam w/flash, FFC etc. i tend to go in and play with all the new "flagship" phones currently in the stores, and yet to see a phone that makes this phone look/feel "outdated" screen even still looks amazing even compared to the beastly SGSII. So the G2x is treating me AWESOME and im sure will continue to do so until my point of upgrade (if i even feel necessary to do so). Also special shout out to all the AMAZING developers that allow us to get a "new phone feel" with all the custom roms/ Themes and development etc.
Starting to appreciate it more. Wanted an htc amaze badly due to wanting to experience the sense ui. But after some comparing I would rather stick with this phone bcuz its perfect for me since running cm7 on it. Waiting for ics to blow my mind on this device. This phone is very underrated, I don't kno why but it is.
Tried the miui Rom and liked some of the features (mainly pop up texts that I can respond to without leaving a game or video) but switched to cm7 shortly after and am very satisfied. Phone doesn't lag anymore, runs smooth and I don't have to pull the battery out 4 to 5 times a day any more. In fact I may have to do it once or twice a week. I have a new fondness for my G2X now. Got it on 420 when they thought I was in line that morning for the sidekick lol. I may use this phone longer than ive ever used a phone before. Normally would switch every 4-6 months... almost did with the amaze 4g. But 500-600 bucks def not worth it.

I've had mine since late April and it's never let me down. I switched from a Galaxy S 4G, which I exchanged for the G2x, and I don't regret it one bit. This phone handles anything I throw at it with no problem. My GPS was basically broken until the new baseband update came out, now it locks in seconds. I've only had one random reboot since I've had the phone, and that was because I was messing with UV settings in SetCPU. I'm not looking to upgrade anytime soon.

Try using the handcent app, it does the popup feature as well. Usually for a 3D game like most Tegra 2 games it will take like five seconds to reload but you won't lose any progress.

Do you still get the same instant gps locks running bionix?
I came from a MyTouch 3G 32b. 528MHz processor, and 192mb of RAM... Talk about an upgrade!
No complaints at all. Came from an HD2 to this phone and it was worth it. Fastest android I've ever had.

Amazing phone! Came from an HD2 (which was also an amazing phone) and I'm just loving the speed in the G2x. I haven't had any dropped calls or random reboots.
