Sure hope this is true. Been getting bored lately as there are no truly unique roms out there at the moment.

So seeing as google just had their conference as well as the release of the ICS SDK, will we be able to see some ROMS come to our device? I don't know anything about coding or any of this stuff, but ICS does look tasty.

I am interested to see if CM will make use of this now! I have CM7.1 on my phone right now and love it over ASOP 2.3.4. Any one know if they will work on moving to the 4.0 source now?
Well, a off-topic comment on AndroidCentral said that XDA already has it's hands on the Nexus system dump.
I have a viewsonic gTablet too, and I have tried some ROMs based on Honeycomb "dumps" from the Xoom, I was very unimpressed (by no fault of the developers, they did amazing work on porting things) so I think I will wait on roms built from source rather than a dump from phone with different hardware.
CyanogenMod 9 (yes, that's right: 9) will be based on ICS. Hopefully it's just a matter of time before we see it on the DHD/Inspire.
I was more interested in the 4.65" 1280x720 display. The pixel density is almost the same as a iPhone 4

Why not 8? Is the CM team going to skip 8 in favor of 9?
Also, from all the information I've read, nobody still makes a clear statement on this: Is Ice Cream Sandwich hardware accelerated? Because if it's not, that's a huge shame.

CM8 will be honeycomb (3.0) if the source ever gets released... which would make ICS (4.0) CM9.
Let me google that 2nd question for you
Ha - not being a ****, just always wanted to use a lmgtfy link
They could technically make something based on the SDK (something DeeperBlue did for the Nook Color with Honeycomb), but since we expect a soon-ish source release for ICS, putting all of that work into it would be kind of ridiculous
Yes it will be hardware accelerated

yes it will be able to run it, seeing as we saw it being tested on a nexus s, which has less ram and what in my opinion is a crappier processor(still pretty good though), so im pretty sure itlll run it just fine

No, the ICS Source Code will be made available to the public on Nov 17th. This means that Developers will be able to start working on ICS for a specific device. The advantage here is that the SGS II has a huge fan-fair also is quite open with development and has kick azz hardware, hence it will most likely be picked up for development right away with results to show soon after.
I won't lie, after reading this, I got really excited. For the past few weeks, I've been using MIUI, but once a stable ICS ROM comes out (I'm hoping/guessing CyanogenMod), I think the pure AOSP experience will be even better

Personally, I've been passing the time with Shadowgun on my I9100 (thank you Chainfire3D )
Wait a minute, Google are hosting a big Android event on the 16th! Good chance that that means they'll release the source code the day after the event, or on the day (if we assume the difference in date due to time zones). This adds a lot more credibility to the idea
I am a bit concerned about the date that Samsung is going to release ICS for SGS II.
Wouldn't this still be unusable on our SGS2 unless they release a device with proper drivers for the mali400?

Regarding drivers there is not going to be any big changes from 2.3.7 to 4.0. So it wont be a problem. Official drivers may be more optimized .

I think that's a lot of wishful thinking to expect it this month, at least a stable build for us to use on a daily basis.

I doubt that'll stop porting being done pretty quickly.
Can't wait for a rom to be available for the amaze!
Hope to see something cool for the Atrix 4G. Probably won't happen any time soon, but a man can dream.
Can not wait till it finds it way to my device.
Surely this will reach the Galaxy S2 before the end of the year? Have an upgrade due next month and as much as I want ICS I can't justify upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus as it's just not good enough, so think I'll wait for S3 and hope that Cyanogen ports this over ASAP! Will definitely donate a nice amount to the cause.
im hoping it reaches my gs2 asap
worth the wait!
Google really seems to be embarrassed by the HC source, but glad to see that they kept to their openness promise.
I want my 2.3.5 update for my S2 and then I want ICS by jan-fep.
Can anyone familiar with the dev-scene comment on whether this will help in porting ICS to GSII ? Last I remember, the problem with SDK port was with the graphic driver (Mail400) and the source-code release for sure does not help on that front!
its about time!
let's get it on!
Yessssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally!!! Xmas today!
Still waiting working on my phone
How does the development for other devices (than Galaxy Nexus) look like from this point:
1) someone said there are no "profiles" for other devices - does it mean that Google has still to release something in addition to this source to make it usable for the developers, so that they'll be able to make custom ROMs like CM for other devices?
or
2) the developers can handle it without that "profiles"?
And of course I understand the devs have to collect all device-specific code like drivers etc.

Ice Cream Sandwich and HoneyComb Source Released to AOSP

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/android-building/T4XZJCZnqF8/WkWhGUYb4MAJ
Hi! We just released a bit of code we thought this group might be interested in.
Over at our Android Open-Source Project git servers, the source code
for Android version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is now available.
Here's how to get it:Follow the instructions at
http://source.android.com/source/downloading.htmlCheck out the
'ics-release' branch:repo init -u
https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest -b android-4.0.1_r1
That's it! However since this is a large push, please be aware that it
will take some time to complete. If you sync before it's done, you'll
get an incomplete copy that you won't be able to use, so please wait
for us to give the all-clear before you sync.
This is actually the source code for version 4.0.1 of Android, which

I hope we get a smooth running build of one of the two. I am currently running Vegantab and its pretty smooth but it might freeze here and there or hang on the browser, etc.. It will help....but keep in mind that there are still no hardware drivers/kernel for the Gtablet beyond Froyo (OS 2.2).
The same issues getting Honeycomb running will be present with ICS though more insight in to the OS will be available with the source. Still no Nvidia "Harmony" kernel or drivers though....
Y'all work on this...
I'll be in Skyrim!!!
I would be surprised if Nvidia released anything for the Harmony board. Considering they already have an HC 3.2 image for Ventana, my guess is this is were all their efforts will go. Afraid we will be stuck with ported versions with no supported drivers.
what happened with the .36 kernel and all the current development for gtab?? are the devs going to have to start all over? why no update for gtabcomb? it ne'er came out of beta? hmmmm...why develop for transformer and galaxy tab if;they already have stable version of os?

trust me, everyone does not like it. it is a resource hog and you can not customize the size of widgets which sucks. i use launcher pro. however, people who like htc do buy their phones because of the way sense is integrated with android. to each his own.
Thanks
Thanks for sharing the info, hope you're right.

That's funny... The developers here never made perfect pure AOSP from GingerBread source... You expect wonders from ICS source?

Sense UI is what distinguishes HTC androids from other androids. If one doesnt like the Sense UI why buy an HTC phone? Buy a Samsung, SE, Motorola etc!
As a long time n1 user in addition to the senny, I will say that it will get here when it gets here.

Yet another topic with unfounded speculations on the ICS releasedate. Can't we just stop these useless discussions and just wait for it?

I don't believe that information, but I have nothing against to be positively surprised by HTC Hope that Mike1986 or Steve0007 will be able to make even better ROMs then.
