On the internal SD card, which CWM recognizes and can use just fine.

Please read the guides that are already posted in the DEV section. You don't need a SD card to root nor to run custom ROMs. It is advisable to get one though.

Hey all new HTC guy here and owned a Captivate since release. I'm trying out the Inspire (Tried the Atrix but it was kinda meh). I just have a few questions that I couldn't find answers to. What the heck is a Gold Card and how do I use it? I actually made one with the prog in the Dev section and when I put it in my PC or phone it says it's corrupted or needs to be formatted, is that normal? On the cappy I just flashed Rom manager and installed CWM and installed the roms from there, I'm assuming it's the same for the Inspire? If anyone could toss me a few links or a step by step to get this thing going I'd really appreciate it! I'm sure this has been answered a million times so I apologize.
Thanks!
There are some directions and explaining what it is, I havent messed with it yet but I believe you have to format the sdcard to make it? and to root u have to downgrade roms and then reupgrade or switch to custom rom that is already rooted.
Just follow the directions in the hack kit...takes 30-45 minutes to go through the process. I made my gold card using the hex editor method but I know there is a gui in the kit to "automate" the process.
Once you get through that you just use rom manager like normal to do your rom flashes.
Edit...on your gold card corrupt question, it did not work correctly if you are seeing those errors. The card can still be used for storage after it has been made.

I had the same problem it has to do with the SD card your using. I think that the one your using cannot be edited in the way you need. Try another card. For me it took three different cards and the one that actually worked was the Samsung one that came with the phone. Hope this helps!

Alright i am almost ready to root my infuse 4g... i just wanna make im doing this right... I got this one that i think i should do(link is gonna be at the bottom) but i wanna know, how do i put a file on the internal sd card? Is that the folder that comes up when ever you use a file manager, without root access, on the phone?
And also how do i know that i have the drivers for my phone? Because kies is **** and it keeps failing or something...and last question, Someone please tell me the procedure if im wrong...
What i think is supposed to be done for rooting is you root, with something such as the one below in the link, and then do you have to install a different rom(i was thinking of infused 2.1.0) or do you have to just get a rom manager and do enable it or something like that?
Please someone answer these questions?
This is the link for the root i wanna do, as it is aimed at rogers infuse 4g, which of course is what i ahve

As long as Kies is successfully installed you should have the drivers. That's all I had to do. As for loading rom's, don't use rom manager. Flash it with CWM.

So right now I am running on 2.3.3 version and I want to Root my device. I been looking on the forums on how to root on MAC but no success. I am totally confused and unsure the steps and files I need to do it on MAC computer. If anyone could please help and give me a easier guide to do this I really would appreciate it.
Thank you
Use Windows instead. Can you use someone's Windows machine for about 10-15 minutes?

I wanna put on the eaglesblood ics rom but i need to root my phone before i can install it right? or can I root the phone and put the rom on the same time?
You can move the EB ROM to your SD card b4 you root.
Make sure you follow all the steps. They shouldn't be too difficult

You don't need to root to change Roms using ClockworkMod.

Okay so I've had a Xoom for a while and it lost its usefulness to me, however recently I've started using it again but it just feels out of date compared with my phone. I figured I'd root it and throw one of the latest roms on it, however the rooting process seems exponentially harder for this device then what I've done in the past. I have two semi-related problems. First I have a micro-SD card but with no SD Card slot on the XOOM I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to put the files on then and use CWR to load the root. Do I have to buy an attachment? Also, since I really don't have a lot of money at the moment, is there a way to root a Xoom without the SD card? I have a 4G Verizon Xoom updated to version 4.0.4. Thanks for your help.
The Xoom definitely has an SD card slot.
Annnnnnnd I'm an idiot.
Also check our FAQ. There's two rooting guides there (manual and one-click)

Hi I'm completely new at rooting and was just wondering if rooting using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332825& would cause my phone to be wiped.
I am not planning on flashing any ROMs, just getting rid of all the stuff verizon likes to put in. Thanks in advance!

When you root your phone you're merely adding administrative access to your phone. You should read more into this before doing anything to your 500 dollar phone.
That method works great! And no you will not lose anything. But like the person above me said, do your homework and make sure you know what you're doing.
Good luck, and enjoy your root access
Oh, and while using the casual root method, go ahead and unlock the boot loader and flash CWM recovery right away. Casual will do this all for you. Just choose the options from the drop down menu.
It'll save your a few extra steps in the future if you ever do decide to try out a custom Rom someday.
