Couple questions about rooting infuse 4g - Samsung Infuse 4G

Alright i am almost ready to root my infuse 4g... i just wanna make im doing this right... I got this one that i think i should do(link is gonna be at the bottom) but i wanna know, how do i put a file on the internal sd card? Is that the folder that comes up when ever you use a file manager, without root access, on the phone?
And also how do i know that i have the drivers for my phone? Because kies is **** and it keeps failing or something...and last question, Someone please tell me the procedure if im wrong...
What i think is supposed to be done for rooting is you root, with something such as the one below in the link, and then do you have to install a different rom(i was thinking of infused 2.1.0) or do you have to just get a rom manager and do enable it or something like that?
Please someone answer these questions?
This is the link for the root i wanna do, as it is aimed at rogers infuse 4g, which of course is what i ahve

As long as Kies is successfully installed you should have the drivers. That's all I had to do. As for loading rom's, don't use rom manager. Flash it with CWM.

[Q] need alittle help....plz

i just got my inspire 4g and im coming for the darkside(iphone)....this is the first android ive owned , i love the phone....but i really dont care for all the crap that at&t has preloaded on it....so my question is wats the best way to uninstall all this crap? not sure if there is 1 app to do it or if i have to root or what....any help would be great.....
To get rid of ATT's bloatware, you will need to Root. There are a couple of stock Rooted ROMs that you can flash that have the bloat removed and HSUPA enabled, and there are also a bunch of custom ROMs that won't have this stuff either. There are 2 different ways you can go about rooting, either by using the attn1's Hack Kit or bubby323's HTC Inspire 4G Simple Root and S-OFF. Whichever way you choose, make sure you read a ton before you root. The process is a little involved, but if you understand what you're doing going into it it will be A LOT easier. I can root these things in about 15 minutes at this point
so which way would be the best for what i wanna do?.....im not real tech savy with android at this point, so i guess a stock rom will serve my purpose, or whats the advantage with going with a diffrent rom?
Its actually really easy once you do it the first time. There is ClearDroid, TCP, and Dilligaf roms.
As far as which one it is your choice, you can try them all if you want.
I just rooted for the first time last night using this method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406
Just follow along with the video that is in the link and it's easy as pie.
I am using the ClearDroid ROM

Stock ROM minus the bloat.
This is what worked for me, everyone is different.
1 more question...i see everyone talking about flashing the radio also so is this something i have to do if im going to install android rev. rom or do i not worry with the radio?? or is it like if i flash the rom i have to flash the radio as well?

You don't have to flash the radio. It is optional.
wow...that was fast already rooted my phone in about 30 minutes.....thanks guys for all the help now i just have to decide on which rom i wanna install on it
one last question after i used bubbys 1 click and im ready to flash my new rom(android rev.) its says i need the clockwork mod im guessing thats the same thing as the rom manager app i have on there now....so all i need to do is put the rom on my sd card then use rom manager to install it

you use rom manager. open it up and click "flash custom recovery image" or something like that. (its the first button). if your going to flash a gignerbread rom then get the3.xxx version of clockwork. if a 2.2 rom then 2.xxx. but be careful, i hear after using bubbys method, you get black screens in clockwork. thats why i just used the hack kit

Can you root the g2x yet with 2.3.3¿

I wanted to know if there is a way to root it yet?

I believe you can, but you can't use a one click root method. Everybody still says it's easy to do, but I don't quite get it. I'm not an idiot, but I just don't understand some of the stuff they say to do. Apparantly you have to "install nvflasher through clockworkmod". I see where I can download clockworkmod, but it's just a bunch of DLL files and an exe I think. Then I saw something about installing drivers and they lost me. My only guess was the drivers it installs when you plug your phone into your computer via the usb port? I don't know. Anyway, after installing the nvflasher, I guess you can just flash roms. I don't quite understand how to do that either though, lol.
Follow the first part of this video to get clockworkmod recovery on your phone. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cy9on64jAZs)
From there you can flash roms. In the dev section there is a stock rooted ROM by xboarder.

This.
All the instructions are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847 thanks to TGA_Gunnman. I understand a lot of us are new to rooting/flashing but there's so much information just lying around that it's beyond how many times the same question is asked.
what I don't get is what to do if you only have a mac.
You can also use superOne clicks new app. Only works on windows

Are you saying this method works on the stock Gingerbread rom? I thought SOC didn't work with GB on the G2x.

Just a heads up...I don't think this will work. Unless SOC updated to a new version. Just search the forums use this "how to root after OTA " I recommend NVFLash CWM then if you want 2.3.3 rooted search "stock OTA rooted." Posted by xboarder. Or use a custom rom. This has been asked to many times. Yes it is possible to root some other way. That to is covered by xboarder also. Unless SOC has a new version out with in the last week it wont Work.....read post 4665. But I do have great news......the search options in the forums do work and even Google searches will direct you to xda. If you find a post about something read all of it. Then read the OP(opening post) 3 to 4 time looking at dates and change logs..
So to recap
1) SOC will not work. NVFlash clockwork.
2) use the search/Google.
3) if you read this and did not see xboarders name at least once befor this post, reread.
4) read and reread.....keep reading....the answers are posted.
5) read the OP. Look at dates and change logs.
If you don't like my response to this post go buy an iPhone. The rest of us are sick of seeing the same questions. That is all

Well said.
I was surprised the walkthrough provided here for using NVflash was actually really EASY. whoever made it made sure it was idiot proof. got it on my first try.

Yeah, I might look at it again and give it a try later on. There's still a few things i'm confused about though.
I didn't know you could flash roms without rooting first. But I guess flashing a rooted rom technically does root your phone? It's just a different way of achieving root? Also, if you are gonna flash roms, I thought you had to do the nvflash routine.. which would root your phone anyway.. lol.
I believe some cases that could be true. Root could be needed to install a flash recovery. Our phone use nvidia. The nvflash utility makes it easy. Some one please correct me if I am wrong. When you nvflash you are replacing the factor/stock recovery with CWM. At that point you could put any Rom you like. I kind of see it like a boot disk. Root allows you to see system folders and such. Kind of like having admin rites on your computers operating system. Root also aloes programs to modify system information. To compare this to the common computer root is like an admin account in windows. Unroot is like a user account that companies give you on their computer. CWM is like having a boot disk. I hope I cleared that up for some one.

Hey I know u mean well but I would first ask doniqcc since it is his rom ya know
Root first?
So with this whole NVflash thing, does that mean you really don't need to root first, because NVflashing is already rooting it for you?

Yes and no, in that order. You can use nvflash to replace the stock recovery with a custom recovery, such as clockworkmod recovery. Using custom recovery, you can flash any rom that's compatible with the phone. Most of the roms have superuser privileges (root) built into them.
Good news i found a root for and it works i am so happy and now i dont have to mess with the eaglesblood rom (now offence) but you do have to flash clockworkmod recovery in order to flash the su root package for my info go to facebook and search LG G2x (official)

Huh? The info has been on this board for weeks how to do that already.
Thanks for the help everyone, I get it now!
Hey everyone, I just want to let you all know that I was able to do the NVFlash, backup everything, and install CM7.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE HECK I WAS WORRIED ABOUT!!!! It was so incredibly easy.
CM7 is installed, however I'm having issues with my APN now working and losing its information, I've posted for help on that in another thread.
Thanks again, and to those out there who worry like I did...have no fear....CWM is a neat tool, ESPECIALLY for backup of your entire phone.
Thanks.
John

[Q] Rooting & rom noob - help needed

I have few question and dunno where to start. First, I downloaded some custom ROM and I want to install it, is installing new ROM same as rooting ? If not, how to install that ROM which I have already downloaded and ROOT my Galaxy Ace ?
P.S. I'm kinda afraid of rooting I get it as some sort of scary **** to do :S But since I can't update to 2.3.6 since this stupid Polish firmware doesn't let me to do it, I want to change to another one. And I want to ROOT it so I can move some apps to memory card so I get more RAM
I would really appriciate some useful advices

Thanks I should have searched first >.< Btw after I install some other firmware and root my phone, would I be able to update it via Kies ?
Thanks for the answer again
No buddy, once you root Kies will be useless. You may be able to find the most up-to-date rom and root it.
If you go for a custom rom usually developers update it to the latest firmware version.
Just be careful on what your doing to your phone. Read the tutorial 3-4 times before starting the process and make sure you have everything.
Also.. make sure you check task manager and end task all KIES apps. (KiesAgentTray KiesPLR etc)

I have the same phone and i had the same problem that i couldn't find a way to root the thing but after digging for two weeks i finally found a flashable .zip file that roots your phone and installs superuser and gives u root access. I have attached the file all u have to do is download it, put it on your sd card(not in any folder) and then boot into recovery. From there just go to install zip from sd card -------> choose zip from sd card--------->> then just select the file attached then go to yes and it will install the package and root your phone and there ya go!!! Enjoy your rooted phone! (btw if u want to update to ics i can help u out with that)

Gingerbread update force ota

Ok so I was wondering if anybody could figure out to make the infuse 4g update ota (over the air) since it is not already available because samsung didnt make it ota so I was wondering if anybody knew of a way to make the gingerbread update ota or to be able to update without a computer because I dont have on and im not going to be by one for a long time. Thanks.
I would tell you to download a gingerbread ROM, but I don't know if they flash bootloaders. You could try flashing boot loaders and a GB ROM using mobile ODIN if you have root
See but thats the problem I dont have root acess either I dont habe a comp and I also have tried those one click root apk's but none of them work. People say I need a comp but I dont have one and wont have one or be by one for a long time. Im trying to update to gingerbread to be able to root much easier. Any ideas
What app did you use? Z4root?
Yeah I used it and it stayed on the screen forever it didnt work I also used gingerbreak and universal androot to no avail.
The only way of rooting I know, other than z4root, is to actually use a pc, and either flash Gingerbread with Bootloaders, or use superoneclick just to root. Sorry that I couldn't help more. I also have no clue that the GB update isn't OTA either... Weird.
Yeah I guess ill wait it out and see If anybody finds a solution. Yeah I know about the gingerbread update its dumb that samsung didnt make it ota for the samsung infuse 4g
But thnx for trying to help. Ill wait and see if anybody can find a solution
Yeah, it doesn't make sense why they wouldn't publish an OTA, probably because of the Bootloaders though. I would say you could download CM7 as it is signed, and then you could have install a custom froyo rom and have root, but you don't have GB Bootloaders, and that would make it difficult to see anything
Yeah I know I guess ill wait for another phone
Or for a solution
If you think you know something reply back
I vaguely remember a zip you could flash in stock recovery that would root pretty much any device, but in have non clue if it would work on the Infuse. If you want to try it, Google "root update.zip"
Ok thank you
GB is actually harder to root than froyo... not easier.
Yeah but froyo is pretty hard to root especially if you dont have a comp like me.
still ill keep looking any ideas
