Review Custom Rom MiniCM7_V21 by paul-xx - General Questions and Answers

i just installed custom rom MiniCM7_V21 on my smartphone Xperia X10 Mini Pro.
This rom is absolutely amazing. Thanks to all those who built this rom but i have some problems in this rom though this rom is amazing in comparision to android 2.1 update-1. Some of tiny things make SE Original Android 2.1 better than this custom rom Some of the problems i felt in using this rom are:
1) Wifi not working properly.
2) No Youtube application and Not working when installed manually.
3) No Google Maps.
4) Although Camera application is better than previous custom roms the Camera application of android 2.1 is far better.
5) Browser wont download smoothly like in SE Original Android 2.1
6) Both Tethering and portable wifi hotspots option doesnt works.
7) Very poor battery life (i.e 4/5 hours standby)
8) And The phone lags frequently.
These are some of the problems i felt in using this custom rom.

I have the same ROM... and in my SONY ERICSSON X10 mini PRO works everything!
I think you could send an email to CYANOGEN explain it all
good luck! see ya

[Q] SE Camera App port

Hi guys! This is my first thread (and post).
Is that possible to port SE Camera to froyo 2.2 or port SE Arc Camera to froyo?
I´m missing smile shutter and other good thing from this app.
Nope u cant the drivers of 2.1 camera wont match the 2.2 drivers. If i recall.

Hi and welcome
As Voelker said, drivers can't be ported from 2.1, and I understand Google stock camera isn't that beautiful
Face Recognition service (BTW it drains lots of battery!) works as a separate file (apk) you can get from stock SE 2.1 rom or from Arc rom.
You can try to port it, then implement functionnality to stock google app
don't forget SE said x10 will (!) get Gingerbread, WITHOUT Face service (it is said to be the stock Google camera). Your only hope is currently to keep official 2.1 rom if you do miss some stuff...

Custom ROMs for Daily use

USING A CUSTOM ROM FOR DAILY USE
Hey guys have been bitten by the Jelly Bug and decided I needed JellyBean on my Note NOW!! as a normal Android user  tried out a few ROMs out there. Finally settled on Paranoid Android JB:CM 10 Hybrid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871713 Its abosolutely super Hats of to Chef Utacka the daily update keeps me up to date with the developments. He has without a doubt solved the memory leak bug with JB roms. It is really smooth and the thought of going back to a TW based ROM makes me want to throw up a little
The only draw back of flashing a custom JB: CM 10 ROM on the note is that one can get a bit lost if using the note for business as all the Sammy TW Based apps dont work and some of the ones mentioned in the Themes and Apps forum are not refined, so decided to to list out a few which I personally bridge the gap on my note and help flashing the daily updates a breeze:
1) App Manager http://ow.ly/efNxe the best app to keep your apps all backed up. after a clean flash the only app you need to download is this one and it allows you to restore all the apps back. Or just download it and copy it to the SD Card so that you can install it directly after flashing the new update an re - install all the apps you need.
2) ThinkFree Office Mobile http://ow.ly/efOQn One of the best purchases I made for Rs 465/- it entirely replaces Polaris office, and is much smoother too.
3) Jotter http://ow.ly/efQ84 Does a super job replacing SNote and worth the Rs. 211/- asking price
4) Photo Editor Easy Photo Editor http://ow.ly/efQGo or SketchTalk - Drawing & Editinghttp://ow.ly/efQPD work really well replacing the sammy photo editor. I have just found Sketch talk and first few hours testing it out produced quite impressive results
5) G Tasks: To Do List http://ow.ly/efRqy syncs with Google calendar and provide the integration which is somewhat lacking in the Sammy Organizer.
6) SMS Backup & Restore http://ow.ly/efRMp for some of us who keep valuable information in our messaging app, please remember to back up all sms before clean flashing updates.
Enuf Said... our NOte is close enuf to the original but somewhat better because we dont have to wait for the high and mighty Sammy to give us the latest software
UPDATE:
App Manager failed me Twice. So shifted back to the Time tested Titanium Backup http://ow.ly/eDHzI
To find more apps to improve the functionality of our Note and make the functionality similar to stock i came across this lovely port of the samsung app store for CM 10 / CM10 based ROMs by XDA Member Amandeep Parmar http://ow.ly/eDHLD
This app store gives many App options which are not available on Google's Play store like Sketch! http://ow.ly/eDHY2 by XDA member Wabz and
Photo Desk : which allows doodling and annotating screen shots and photos, although this is a two step process unlike the single step process on the stock ROMs it is pretty easy to use and the apps do exactly what they need to.
The only thing missing was a good replacement for S - Memo which is required while taking on call memos, for now Papyrus http://ow.ly/eDIbn will have to do.
Still sticking to the Lovely work by Utacka and Paranoid Android team as my Daily Driver.. Super stuff
UPDATE: 10th Nov
Utacka's PA rom for NOte now has Stylus Gestures http://ow.ly/fb1I2 Configured them on my note as under:
Left Swipe => Emulate Back Key
Right Swipe => Recent Applications
Up Swipe => Emulate Menu Key
Down Swipe => Invoke Search
Long Press => Go TO Home
Double Tap => Jotter
Works super
I personally Love the CM 10 PA experience and just cannot bring myself to even try TW based ROMs anymore. But i was pleasantly surprised with http://ow.ly/fb1Qm The latest Stock XXLS7 Samsung JellyBean ROM by eybee1970.. I did not like that the dev says "Kernel is PROBABLY brick free. Flashed it anyway... It is smooth and stable !!
Please dont forget to Thank the Devs
Thanks
Thanks Boss really helped... wanted to flash a custom rom which was vanilla Google now thanks to this post i can do it with fraction of the time required for research :good:

Thanks to JimmyMcGee and Jared Burrows i found this app to replace Titanium backup I personally think App Manager does the trick for me but yes Titanium backup is usually the choice for Flasholics
I use Titanium Backup too....On GB first,on ICS and now on JB.
I take pro version on playstore but i not use pack restore on JB.
This app works fine everytime......
Thanks for the dev!

Its a known issue. I think he might have solved it in their 21st OKT release but if you switch off "Automatic Brightness" it should not Blank out

[Q] Reasons to use ICS or JB instead of GB in my i9003?

Hi,
I wanted to know if there are reasons of why we should try IceCreamSandwich or JellyBean roms for daily usage that still have bugs, other than keep with Gingerbread, and in my case, Frankenstein´s rom.
What I really want to know are if ICS and JB have some benefits, or we just want to use them because they are new.
I only have my SL phone, and that´s the reason I don´t want to start flashing lots of roms again... just want one that works well and in which battery lasts reasonable time.
My normal daily use is:
· 1 hour speak
· mostly 2g or wifi connection. Almost no navigation.
· lot of whatsapp
· 30 min average of bluetooth
· sometimes some gps
With this use, my battery lasts aproximately 2 days.
I don´t play games, I don´t watch movies... I just use it as a regular mobile + whatsapp, gps, adidas micoach, jefit, and small apps.
I think it would be good to receive some advice of those who tried different roms.
Thanks for your time, and hope this thread is useful to solve other questions also.
The reason is that people get bored of same old UI.
So we try ICS and JB.
They do support UI flexibility.
Also performance of phone increases in games[That's not for you]
And They also support more number of apps than GB.
But be sure that you won't get same battery backup though.

some apps dont work on GB (google chrome, google now, etc..), thats why i switched to JB...
battery wise, mine last a day (using an internet simcard and switched to 2g), used only for updates, whatsapp and viber...
if you were to switch to a custom rom, i would suggest you use jellybam...
But jelly bean and ICS have lower autonomie than GB
About 1 or 2 day

That's the risk to use JB or ICS, but if you use Jelly Bam the recommend version + Revolution Kernel = your phone live about 1,5 day or 2 day (I'm on Jelly Bam)
Of course, your phone still need some setting in the performance menu, suggested governor: SmartassV.2 with min speed 300 and max speed 1000 or 1200. That should give you no lag but battery saving phone. If you think your phone taking too much power, use CPU Spy, you can found it on Play Store

According to this, there's no reason to go for ICS or JB (Plus, these are NOT totally stable/reliable/functional).
Stick to good GB kernel/roms.

Well..
I tried to install CM10 Alpha 4 with no success. I don´t know if it is some trouble with my modem (I´m from Argentina), or what, but I tried 4 times to install it and couldn´t make it work fine.
Now I´m on CM9 Alpha 14, with Alpha´s 11 Kernel.
I like it, but I find it a little bit laggy.
Is this just a characteristic from ICS in our phone?
Any other Kernel to recommend?
Now that I´ve tried ICS and JB, I can say that a big difference I find is the way some shortcuts work.
For example, when you pull down the notifications menu, you can access the setting from there, and in JB, you can go to alarms or calendar.
Also I like the new recent apps.
What has to do with the design, I find ICS and JB really pretty. Spaces between things in menus, and other stuff look very well.

Defntly for daily usage i strongly recommend GB over ics/jb.. The main issue with later 2 os is battery. I m nt getting even half day with moderate usage..(at present i m using REMICS 1.7) bt still m using it bcs it is more user friendly, support more apps finally, atleast to my frnds i can say "i m running more advanced os than u"
Some user have good battery life with jelly bean (2 days) !!!

For me, I use Jb instead of Gb because:
-Video call with Gtalk. No Gtalk vid call on Gb.
-Beautiful UI. The spaces, the consistency of usage of colours, the fresh new look of android.
-Built in Data Monitor. I can track my data usage and warning if almost reach limit.
-Expandable volume control(we can set media volume, ring volume and alarm volume just by pressing the button)
-Great keyboard.
-more apps supported.(apex launcher, some games, Chrome, stuff)
-settings button accessible in notification
-Swipeable notification (I like this because i can keep my text message to be read later while deleting other notification)
-Quick reply text messages using button on notification area without opening the messaging app.
-Google Now cards. It shows stuff without having to search for it.
-Very organized system settings.
-Different Widget displayed.(eg. Google+ widget in GB is a text bar to post new statuses. In JB, it shows people from our circle's posts.)
-Fast stock browser. (Updated html support)
-Can save web page for offline reading.
-can place shortcuts on lockscreen.
-apps on the market had given guidelines on the app layout.(not making apps that looks like iPhones and Windows phone apps)
-No pre-installed bloatwares.
-Can show to s2 users that I already have JB while they still ICS
Benefits of Gb over Jb(at this time):
-Tethering (tethering in cm10 is not yet possible)
-Have FM Radio in stock rom. Good to hear free music when bored.
-Have UMTS Video Call in stock rom. Can Video call using carrier charges(its the same price as voice call in my country. Very good to have)
-Can create folders INSIDE the app drawer.(value packs only)
-Good battery usage.
I would prefer JB more because I could use my phone more effectively. About the lag, I used the performance tweak and the Project Butter enchanter mods by Top Droid and the lag is gone!

amifiq which rom are you using & how good is the battery backup?
Im using cm10a3. Usually it last like a day if i use it like sms, whatsapp, calls. But if you want good battry life, use gb. Cm10 isnt stable yet so have not as good battery as stock.
Sent by my Galaxy $
As rightly pointed out by amifiq in earlier post
My views will be similar to what he said.
But to be frank Battery lasts only for a day at the most.
leaving it I would rather prefer the JB instead of GB.
Above all it is the firmware created by our devs.
That is more important to go for JB.
My SL is currently at -->
Jelly Bam v.4.0
SIRI KERNEL rc2
Performance Tweaks - Version 1.4.1
issues found as below ,
1.whatsapp
-heavy lag at times while switching from other apps (5sec delay)
-hang / or black screen when using camera , have to remove battery and reboot
- force close
2. MX video player
- phone reboot after watching 25 mins
3. copying files in debugging mode connected to pc
- become slower in day 2 and 3
attached is the catlog when i experience reboot while on MX player
sorry i have to put it here because my post is still less than 10

[ROM REVIEW]AOKP V9 Nightly By RHB ROMS Review.

Hey guys i have installed the AOKP v9 Nightly By RHB ROMS custom JB rom on my Gfit.I have reviewed the ROM here
AOKP V9 Nightly By RHB ROMS Review.(GALAXY FIT GT S 5670)
I have installed the custom Rom by RHB roms on my Galaxy Fit last week.I used a lot of apps and games on it and also tried different settings to suit my self.I found that this ROM is very stable considering the other Roms which hang and reboot my phone frequently.
The Rom gives the amazing Android 4.1.2 OS UI and feel.It has many pros and quite a few Bugs.
Some bugs can be over comed by using alternate apps but some are really irritating .
Read the full post to see what bugs are involved and how i tried to cure them.
Pros:
1)Lots of Android 4 apps work smoothly.
2)Stable-Does not hang frequently.
3)Gives lots of settings to suit your liking.
4)Changes your UI completely with amazing JB styled status bar and toggles.
5)new widgets that would not work on GINGERBREAD.
6)Comes with a Preinstalled Music player called Walkman.(preety good)
7)The old screenshot shortcut (HOME+POWER) does'nt work BUt downt worry they have provided and onscreen shortcut for taking screenshots of your phone
GO to settings>Rom Control>Power Menu and Enable the Show Screenshot option. Then long press power buton and select screen shot for taking picture of your current screen.
8)Cool power off animation.
Cons:
1)Major fault-GOOGLE apps not working .I tried to install the Playstore app.But i could'nt use it because it did not open up.I thought it might be a problem with the package so i tried downloading from a different place but still the same thing. The next thing i tried was to go to the Google play website and download from there directly, that too didnt work.
Alternative: I had to depend on the 3rd party websites like The 1Mobile Market.or the 4Shared app to download apps and games.
Another Google app that i installed is Google maps. That worked but it showed me somewhere in the Indian ocean while i was sitting cozily in my bedroom in India.
2)Camera app : The preinstalled camera app is faulty. The video mode is extremely slow.I tried to Use a different camera application like the Camera 360 but that turned out to be faulty troo.
Finally the Pro capture application worked properly for still photos.
I could not find an alternate app for Video recording.
3)INTERNET ON/OFF-I had problem in enabling the internet connection directly from toggle.Every time i have to go to the settings and enable the data.SOme times this too did not work.Them i have to go to the Mobile networks settings and try searching for network.
(NOTE:This may be my carrier problem.)
4)Some minor app crashes.
5)Does'nt come with the navigation bar if you dont have root access.
Overall i liked the Rom .If the developer colud eliminate the above bugs it would be absolutely perfect.
6)Gallery takes time to update if pics are copied from pc to SD card.
7)SOme apps take time to start.
_________________________________________________________________________
EDIT 22/3/2012:
I am experiencing frequent reboots since i installed the n7music player and also astro file manager takes time to load. Some apps take time to load. The Cut the rope game also crashes and runs very slow.
I think i have to try another ROM
________________________________________________________________________
I have covered all the details pros and bugs of the ROM in the review.PLease have a look and tell me if anyone of you have tried that ROM and found a solution to the bugs.
Thanks in Advance.
So far , and for me,( this is a personal evaluation) the best JB experience its con cm10.1 of erikcas, still have some memory issues so demanding apps wont run as usual or fc, camera works fine and also link2sd so no space problem, and it have gapps preinstalled so dont wipe data after install.

Not bad
It worked pretty much fine for me other than the occasional reboot when i turn on/off my WiFi. Camera worked fine :good:
Waiting for a final release

Stay stock rooted or Aria's OdexLite?

Some questions about Aria's OdexLite ROM:
I rely on my phone a lot for work & I need at least the same stability as stock rom. Is the rom that stable?
Is the ir remote working in the rom? I don't have a physical tv remote. The S6 is my universal remote!
Do you use Edge panel in the flat s6 & does it drain battery?
Is Roboto Light present in Mini Font pack of Aroma?
Are the bloats like play movies, newstand, Skype, ms word present?
Do u guys know any recent videos or guides showing the initial setup features/options of the rom & aroma?
My problem is that my phone is currently stock rom June patch with root & everything working good enough for me with acceptable battery(3.5-4h sot) & stable. Being unable to update any ota, I'm having update withdrawal symptoms.
This rom looks perfect, but I don't want to start having fc or inconsistent performance or bad battery.
I'm kinda addicted to flashing & use my other devices for that urge, but I always spare my s6 from that & hence it's my most stable device. But OdexLite looks so tempting right now
What will u guys suggest me to do? Stay on stock rooted or enter OdexLite?
As always, I'll get most likely 0 answers since I wrote an essay
Even if you like to try OdexLite wait for a day or two, I will upload OdexLite 4.1 to try and fix 4.0 issues.
Some of people are experiencing stability issues such as no root or TWRP bootloop with 4.0
