Gps services - Verizon Droid Charge

When turning on the gps services is there an way to not have to click "agree" to every one and just have it turn on when u hit the check mark? I'm lazy and don't like hitting extra buttons if i don't have to. I mean, if I'm turning it on then obviously i agree to whatever it's trying to tell me, right? Haha.

I dont have my phone up as Im flashing right now but either A. leave it on as I read conflicting as if it hurts or not. B. when you pull down cant you just toggle on/off and not get the message or C. have the power control widget which lets you turn on/off wifi , bluetooth etc.. As I said my phone isnt up at then momoent so just throwing stuff out there.

I don't want to just leave it on as to try to conserve battery life, and whether u use the notification pull down or they power control widget u still have to hit agree.

Yeah I got my phone up and saw that. Sorry , maybe try a market app.

I'm kinda thinking it might have to be a framework change. any devs up for it?

It just took me 22 minutes to get a GPS fix. Sad.

leaving GPS on uses 0 battery unless you are using an app that requires GPS

Still doesn't explain why it took 22 minutes to lock on to a signal.

it took 22 seconds because the GPS in Samsungs arent that great...they work but not very quick or accurate. It works better for some people than others.

GPS and Battery

For the entire time I owned a smartphone (two years), everyone says to disable GPS to save battery and enable it only when you need it. I been doing this the entire time and just now I read a post somewhere in these forums that only when a program needs GPS, it'll affect battery life. If this is the case, then I'll just leave GPS enabled.
So the question is, if GPS is left enabled but no program uses it, is battery life affect?

Right, if nothing calls the GPS then it uses no battery so really there is no reason to disable the GPS at all.

Juice Defender

Is it worth it?
I use the free version and swear by it. I have exceptional battery life when using Juice defender. I have gone 16/17 hours before without needing to charge with moderate phone use. The only difference between the free and the charge version is that on the pay version you can create your own profiles. I just use the standard profile and it is awesome. Download the free version and give it a try.
Totally worth it.

thanks, I'll ive t a try. I read some palces it does mroe harm than good
How does turning the data off, then turning it on every 15 minutes do more harm than good?
I use it if I'm in a 4G area or really trying to stretch the battery out. It does work wonders!
I use the free version and notice the gains. usually see about a twenty percent gain
Absolutely, although I have a strange issue with the service getting killed since I got the G2x, still love the app though. I have UltimateJuice btw
i bought the ultimate version and i never know how to do the settings so i ended up giving up on it.. and just manually turn wifi off and 2g on when i stop using the phone >_>

I installed the free version and it unstablized my phone. There are some Wifi apps that will turn off your wifi, when you leave your home automatically. Search WOOFI in marketplace. Or Auto Wifi Enabler.
Ya I had issues with reboots and instability while using the free version, it would also cause GPS to shut off and I would need a reboot to get it back. Just as easy to toggle it my self.

I uninstalled also. I was having issues receiving POP email in a timely manner. I had it set to check every half hour but sometimes four or five hours would go by then a ton of emails would flood in. I am going to spring for the next step up because you have more control over individual apps and how they connect. I will post back with results.
for those saying it works wonders are you saying this as someone who keeps wifi and gps on all the time? wifi crunches the battery so if all this does is periodically turn it on and off it's not going to do much for me. i only turn it on when i need it.

Do you know what your time since charged was? (I wish it would display total time since charged there...) The "since charged" definition seems weird and hasn't reset on my phone in ages... I've tended to use "since last unplugged".
Pandora appears to be your #1 wakelocker. eBay mobile seems to be pretty bad too.
NetworkLocation wakelocking can be eliminated by unchecking all of the location features in Settings except for when you want network location/GPS.

I assume you were listening to Pandora during that time, in which case, that wakelock is normal. Playing music from your device will also hold a wakelock when the screen is off. If you weren't listening to Pandora at all, then something is wrong.
Whoa. Why the heck is eBay holding that wakelock . Check your notification settings and if it's still holding it, clear its data and try again. Otherwise, I'd uninstall it. I always use the browser to access eBay anyway.

No. In the device settings, turn GPS off until you need it and leave network location checked/enabled. Go into Fancy Widget under weather settings and UNcheck/disable GPS location (GPS is unnecessary for weather updates), verify that network location is checked. Then, I would recommend changing your refresh settings (to update less frequently). I'd bet you have it set to update more frequently than an hour. I also use Fancy Widget and mine is set to 3 hours. This should take care of your network location wakelock (unless another app is also updating with network location).
BTW if Wifi is on but not connected, in Froyo it seems to scan way too often regardless of build.prop setting. Netloc should wakelock less if wifi is off.

I installed BetterBatteryStats because I was curious as to why my phone always seemed to drain so quickly. I am rooted and running infused 1.5.3. I have very few widgets, one that actually accesses anything, and don't do much but surf the net or the forums in the morning. I would unplug it at 6:30 and go to work. By about 8 or so I would already be at 90% or less. That was me hardly using it. Well I hope I got my answer. Apparently Beautiful Widgets was KILLING me on the wakelocks! I wish I took a picture of it before I uninstalled it but jesus it was bad! Thanks for the good info I'm gonna keep an eye on it and see how it does.
Oh funny thing is, I was not even running Beautiful Widgets! I use Fancy Widget instead lol.

No, slow charge is a few other things. ALL android phones wakelock when charging.
The phone shouldn't count CPU/screen/etc usage against charge current at all but it does. It seems to do it less so on GB. Still does it, but the spikes seem lower even if I crank stability test. Gonna be a while before I can test a navigation run.
Seems like on GB, difference between screen off and running stability test with screen on is about 200 mA. Haven't tested in that much detail on froyo. Another way of putting that - putting the screen on and cranking CPU will reduce charge rate by at least 1/3 of the 600 mA charge limit.

[Request} Wifi Calling toggle widget?

It would be super handy to be able to toggle on and off without going into the app. Anybody up to it?

While that is an option, it's not quite the same thing. There are times when I simply want to toggle off wifi calling quickly and keep wifi connected. Am I alone?

thats a very dumb solution considering how much wifi calling running drains the battery.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098687
I wrote some Tasker scripts that provide an "Enable" and a "Disable" button for wifi calling. They require Tasker and the Locale Execute Plugin.
It essentially freezes/unfreezes Wifi Calling so it doesn't drain battery when not in use. It also toggles wifi on when the app is enabled, and when disabled (if necessary)... it gives a few seconds after WIFI changes to allow for the app and phone radio to not cause force closes.
An enterprising individual could *probably* combine the two scripts into a single widget.

On the Vibrant, at least, the Wifi Calling App is frequently the #1 user of CPU time even when Wifi calling itself is disabled. I don't know if it has the same problem on the G2x, but if you check with SystemPanel's logging, you might find that it does. This is why some of us go to extreme measures to freeze/disable the app when not in use.

Gps always on?

Will leaving my standalone GPS on all the time actually drain my battery, or does it only get powered on when something requests it?

Turning off GPS to save battery is one of the biggest myths of the Android world It only uses GPS when an application requests it. Otherwise, it doesn't use it at all. All you are doing with that toggle is making it unavailable to apps.
I have noticed that Facebook likes to fire up the GPS every time I open the app. Annoying, but it is also the only app I use that doesn't "need" GPS that tries to use it. Any way to disable that?
