[Q] Sensation vs EVO 3D - Ice Cream Sandwich? - General Questions and Answers

Hi and yes I've read a lot of both reviews and versus's
So.. I'm using Sensation for +/-5 months.
I'm having a chance to switch to EVO, no cost at all.
I don't care about 3D. I don't use the camera much.
I want to know if the bigger RAM will affect the usability of ICS.. Nexus just got 1G RAM, so I think that would be a standard cuz ICS is going to eat more RAM
And I really like Sense.. I prefer Sense ROM.
With Sense, Sensation has 130 RAM and EVO 280 RAM (double free RAM)
Will the bigger RAM impact ICS?

Will it impact ICS? No. Both will receive an OTA update optimized for that device.
If I were in your shoes, I'd get the 3D =)

Sense on LG

Hi guys.
I'm thinking of getting LGO3d. Will it be possible to put sense on there??
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I presume if/when custom roms come you might... but dear god why? Even when I've had HTC mobiles I always get rid of hat [email protected] The Widgets LG use are just as good if you like that sort of thing.

It will be possible if some dev make Sense ROM
I look forward to that too This is great phone and with ROM's it will be ever better
Personally i have owned a HTC Desire and a Sensation which i still have but the desire i gave to my brother. But i love the LG's custom UI and would not change it for sense sorry but would try it if custom roms came out but overall the custome ui by LG is good enough for the LG i like it alot...
LG custom IU is good, but sometimes I just want some change and something eye candy like Sense it would be nice to have some ROM options so that everyone chooses what they like
sense needs 300mb free so I doubt it will work
Sent from my LG-P920 using Tapatalk
It would eat up your ram and battery more than what the LG custom UI. ...
I own both an htc and an lg phone, though sense is smoother and well polished i still find the LG launcher better cause its simplier and is the closest thing to stock android.

No,Evo 3D has Sense 3.0...but that's not the point...the point is that if HTC Magic with 528 Mhz CPU and 288 MB RAM can run it, then trust me O3D with Dual Core CPU and 512MB RAM will own it

Sense is lush, I love the animated weather and clock etc. Should be able to as EVO 3d will have sense so it should be quite an easy port?? Especially with EVO being 3d. Will just wait for EVO. Apparently its tomorrow and better specs etc.... Love HTC phones, never fail to impress

having gone from Desire to Optimus 3D I can't say I miss sense at all, then again I always had custom ROMs or stock with a different launcher. I don't think there's a need for all the stuff HTC put on there to eat memory. I'd rather have a quick phone that did what I want rather than suff put there for me that I'll never use
I had a custom rom on my Samsung Portal because the original Samsung one was bloated and slow. The LG ui is fast, slick and works great. I'd suggest you just try first and if you don't get on with it custom roms will be here soon enough.

If you want this phone for 3d then the Evo isn't as good as the O3D, the reviews say the same the 3d effect isn't as good on the Evo.

And even though technically the specs are better (1,2GHz dualcore vs 1GHz dualcore and 1GB vs 512MB internal memory) the Evo3D scores quite a bit lower in Smartbench and Quadrant.

Exactly.. it now comes to the point which hardware design can utilize resource more efficient. It reminds me of our dessktop processors.. where an i5 and i3 processors are of same speed say 2.2 Ghz, but you know i5 will perform better than i3. So it looks like LG made a good bet on choosing the right dualcore cpu.
between, talking about UI, both sense and TW4 (SGS2) use up quite a bit of memory. So they need more memory for sure. I tried to use TW4 on SGS before, with the trim down port for SGS, I can only squeeze around 70~120mb free memory most of the time. While using the original TW3, I can manage to get 200~250mb free most of the time. There you can see why the extra 512 is needed.
You can always download htc keyboard, use sense ADW and a sense weather widget...

trade sensation for galaxy s 4g and itouch 3rd gen?

someone wants to trade my sensation for their galaxy s 4g and a itouch 3rd gen. is it worth the trade? hows the sensation compared to the gs4g? thanks
or if i trade for a g2x, shouldnt the person with the g2x put in like 100 dollars?
I'm a developer and I can't post

Gs4g is alright but you will run out of app storage if you like alot of apps, only has 344 MB free out of the box. That's like 700 MB less then sensation. And the gs4g screen does have a good screen but sensation is way better. The difference is darker colors are richer on gs4g, gs4g not dial core, gs4g is laggy even rooted with a custom rom, big step down from sensation I have to say. Personally I wouldn't trade. Sensation is a better phone and get a 8,16, or 32 gb SD card and throw ur music on it and that takes place of itouch. But its up to you.

The current Sensations CPU is the same but bogged down, just OC using faux123 kernel to 1.5GHz
Why pay double on the same exact phone besides beats??

The galaxy has an amoled display that is pretty much far superior to the one we have. The sensation just has a higher resolution. Although the amoled has a weird bluish tint to it. As far as software goes, the galaxy s ain't nothing unless you root it and throw ... Cm7 for example, on it. The graphics rendering is faster on galaxy as well. Sesation has better battery life and build quality.
As far as processor goes, people just got to stop buying into the while 1.5 ghz or 1.8ghz bs. Our sensation wouldn't be $h*t without faux's kernel. Plus, our phones being dual core and all don't mean much as well until android is written to fully take advantage of two cores. Hopefully android ice cream sandwich will do the trick.
Samsung has the worse software support on the planet, I came from an epic 4G, I know trust me. The sensation is better because of the awesome software our devs put out. Still a long way to go, but it gets better every day. I just can't wait for cm7 on this bad boy

trade for the g2x if u get a 100 bucks, its a faster phone w/ better graphics
but if u like sense and htc's build quality stick with your phone
(i switched to the sensation from a g2x but if someone were to offer me a g2x and 100 bucks w/ no issues i'd trade in a heartbeat)
GS4 is a waste stay away!

(Q) New phone. Sensation or Evo3D?

Yeah, need a new phone, but should it be the Sensation or the Evo3D? Gonna root the sh*t out of it, so I will keep that in mind
What do u prefer a 3D-screen or Full-HD camcorder?
I would say both phones are almost the same ... let the dice decide
Sensation comes with a dice app which is handy for choosing

I would agree with this, ultimately you're getting the same device under the hood. The Evo 3D does have 1GB of RAM, where the Sensation has HTC's favorite, 768 MB of RAM. Dual 5MP cameras to one 8MP cam. Both qHD, both 4.3 in screens, blah blah blah. Evo's battery life is worse than the Sensation's IIRC.
I have an Sensation on AT&T here in the states, and I'm extremely happy with it. But messing around with the Evo 3D at the Sprint stores makes me want one of those too lol. Both awesome phones, you can't go wrong really.
They are almost the same phone. You should ask yourself if you prefer Sprint or T-Mobile.
HTC Sensation. Period.
If you want Sense 3.0.. Then for sure Evo 3D Due to higher ram..
I assume Evo 3D is better. But its also more expensive.. But seems that sensation have more system support
.. evo 3D has 1GB of ram .. is the "more" really noticable ? i dont think so!
sensation will be better

Does Jellybean make a performance difference?

The sensation has always suffered from lag here and there compared to its rival the S2. Does this even the playing field or is project butter just a gimmick?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda app-developers app
Yes it does. Try the Jellybean rom from Bruce's thread, it isn't anything eye catchy, but project butter does make it feel smoother whether it's placebo effect or not.
Just gotta wait for that rom to become stable and it's good to go.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda app-developers app
Yeah the jb rom by bruce is quite smooth i can feel the performance boost when switching between apps/multitasking or when opening apps..
Not fully stable yet but good enough for daily drive
Sent From My Sexy Sensation.
Jelly bean should make a difference compared to ics.
But the S2 is always gonna be faster cause it has 1Gb of ram, senny has 768 mb. Ram makes a difference
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
Just wait for a stable rom, too laggy right now...
I don't know if JB is especially builded for 1GB ram... maybe our Sensation has not enough for running this well... This is a handicap to consider.

Android 4.0 RAM Requirement

What is the optimal amount of RAM a phone must have to run Ice Cream sandwhich efficently?
I think ics requires at least 1gig. Custom roms may be able to run on less but it's not ideal.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Having used a Droid OG with 256mb of RAM on ICS, I can honestly say it sucks balls. There's virtually no multitasking, everything closes.
But 512mb seems to be good nonetheless. The HTC Aria with 384mb of RAM has a pretty good ICS ROM as well...
As long as its stock ICS, it doesn't require too much RAM at all. 512mb seems to be a good, solid amount however.

Optimus 2X is coming out with ICS soon (finally).
It has 384MB ram available, 128 goes to the GPU.
Will report back after it's out, but it should be fine.

I know, but more attention to finer details never killed anyone
Plus it's worthwhile mentioning how much is restricted to GPU usage, some phones might use less, or more. So saying 512MB as a blanket statement isn't going to cover all phones.

You can say that again. My x8 is barely coping. 168mb of ram on a good day
Ics runs smooth on legeng with 300+ ram. Don't know the exact value.
Mororola mailstome had 512 mb of ram and this enought for ICS and JB.
While there is no official requirement (and there are ports to the G1 with a beefy 96mb of ram) its accepted that 512mb would be required to run it well
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
i think that the requirement is approxymatly between 300 because my galaxy ace work very nice with 278 ram 4.04
