Hello all, I've decided to go back to a contract phone and I'm interested in selling my Motorola Triumph. I'm wondering, is it possible to reset the phone to pre-activation so the person I sell it to can add their own VM account to the phone? I've done a little research and I can't seem to find a way to restore it to this point.
I'd think this would be possible and I hope it is because I'd much rather get my money back for it. Anyone have any suggestions?
Selling
I had a friend whom had done this. You cannot return the activate back on unfortunatly.. but whomever you sell it to can call Virgin Mobile and they can activate it over the phone.
According to vm if you port away to another carrier the phone is then clean and can be activated by another person.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
I think you can access the "activate" by dialing ##647446# , this will take you to the SPC Menu, when you activate a new number they will give you a new number, plus a MISD number. You can only get the correct MISD number from a VM operator.
Just stop paying your bill. They will cancel your account, and you're "activated" won't be activated anymore

this right here^
To correctly reset and wipe the phone:
Open the Applications Tray. (arrow pointing up located in the middle at the bottom of the display screen)
Touch Settings
Touch Privacy
Touch Factory data reset
Touch Reset Phone
Touch Erase Everything
Information direct from Motorola.
Yeah, that's a horrible idea, especially if you've done any customizing at all... With a custom recovery this will almost certainly brick your phone!
if you want to factory reset, do it in ClockworkMod only.
Oh, and dialing your phone is as easy as fishing ##847446# and manually changing min and msid to 0000000001 (that's none zeroes and a one).
And make sure not to report the handset as stolen. That's just not cool

Sell your phone
I am interested in purchasing your phone.
Are you sure you want to sell it? If you don't have a defective phone, it's very nice on VM plans (especially if you locked in the lower $25/mo rates). If you are rooted, have custom recovery + ROM, can easily flash stock ROM, replace w/ stock recovery, then remove root and it'll be back to factory settings. It's hard to brick this phone, and it's actually factory shipped with root. More info:

Okay, so my dad wanted a phone for upgrade. My sister's line had the upgrade.
He got a phone, didn't like it, so I called and got them to put the upgrade back on.
My mom calls to order the new phone, and the dumbass VZW rep says to call from the new phone when we get it and activate it on my sister's line, then to switch phones.
I called on the new phone, activated it on my sister's line, then went online to switch the phone, and it wanted me to "add a BB data plan." I said, "eff that."
I called Verizon Customer Service and the gentleman I talked to got my Dad's line set up with the new phone he ordered, however, we could not get my sister's D2G back on the account.
I am slightly concerned as it is currently rooted and running a custom rom, (Fission, I believe.) It failed activation 5 times in a row. So I booted up D2 Bootstrap, and restored back to when I rooted the phone. Still failed activation.
Anyone run into a problem like this? Any ideas?
Hmm. This is weird. Have you signed onto the account thorugh the verizon website to check and make sure the correct phone is on there? That would be my next step. And if it is.
Near the bottom there should be an option such as "Activate or change device." See what you can change in there. Such as readding the MEID for the phone and everything else.
If that doesnt' work. Make sure the phone is unrooted. when you activate. I don't know what all verizon has changed with there services but it's worth a shot.
Hope atleast some of this stuff helps. If not.. you can alway's just go to a verizon store and if worst comes to worse your sister would have to get a new phone. Just be sure to uninstall droid bootstrapper z4root(or w/e you use) and take the SD Card out. GL!!!!

I did a MASTER RESET this morning and ran into the same problem... Activation failed several times but this is what I did and I was able to activate it:
Went to settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Network Mode and changed it from GLOBAL to CDMA. Also changed System Select (under CDMA settings) to AUTOMATIC. Dialed *228 option 1 and ACTIVATION WAS SUCCESSFULLY!!!!
Hope it does it for you too... Give it a try and let us know if it works...

Just know...whether your SIM Card is present or not...doing a *228 will automatically switch you to GSM mode. I find I seem to get better signal with turned on, tried turning it off to conserve battery to no avail.
I found a lost Galaxy Note on a bench at a bus stop with nobody around it. I picked it up and tried to call home (to find the owner) and found that the phone had a passcode. I then popped off the back to check the sim and found a vodaphone SIM, (I'm Canadian so it isn't a phone from around here) I've tried a few "tricks" I read online to figure our who owns the phone such as sticking in another sim into it and calling it, then trying to access the phone from there, but all of the ways to bypass the lock seem to be outdated and not work. It is not in developers/debugging mode so I am not able to connect to it via USB. It seems like a pity not try everything to return the phone to the owner. The last thing I can think of is to factory reset the phone, but then I lose all the personal data which sort of makes things.. worse! Help?

Factory data reseting the phone is definitely a last ditch resort and the phone probably will be unidentifiable by then. Did you look at the grease stains on the phone? I've been able to unlock phones with about a 60% success rate just by looking at the grease.
I should have looked beforehand! That would have been the smart thing to do haha.. When I popped the backing of I accidentally wiped the screen so there isn't much in terms of clues from the grease. Is there any way to access the saved emails on the phone? If I could see an email, the to/from email, I could email the owner that I found his phone.
Try googling how to bypass android pattern lock or another similar search term. Something could come up
call VODAPHONE have them check SIM to account

Oh that's mine actually....
Not it's not, I jest... Yeah,.call Vodafone. They should know the owner by the imei.

My wife's phone was stolen yesterday. We didn't have insurance or that silly lookout security on it. I bought it on Craiglist last december for her Christmas gift. It was already unlocked and rooted. So the person who stole it can just through any sim in there and use it (we disabled the sim on it through tmobile immediately.) Tmobile is happy, they got a new phone sale and a 2 year contract extension out of it.
But they refuse to block/blacklist the IMEI!
I've called customer support *multiple* times and get the same answer every time - company policy is to not block IMEIs on lost or stolen phones. WTF? The only time they block IMEIs is if you buy a phone and don't pay for it, or if you have insurance (and even that part is not clear, it sounds like they just use the Lookout security program to lock it, which any savvy user can disable in minutes).
I've filed a police report, and when I finally told them that by not blocking the IMEI they are aiding and abbetting a felony theft. They said to write to the legal department.
The police report they gave my wife doesn't even say phone or the IMEI. I asked her to go back and get the full report or get the officer to write the phone model and make on the little slip as well as the IMEI, and I'm going to take it in person to every carrier and see if they'll block the IMEI from their system, just in case this person has another carrier (since it's unlocked).
Does anyone have advice on what to do? I know I won't be tracking or recovering the phone I just want to make sure it's unusable.
Well until you blocked the sim you could have used lookout's plan b to attempt to find the phone. You are pretty much screwed unless the phone shows up in a pawn shop. Did t-mo give a reason for not blacklisting the imei?
You can install androidlost remotely from a computer or another handset. Go to wwwDOTplayDOTgoogle.com sign into the account email that is on the phone that was taken and search for (androidlost) and click install. It will install the on the device when it connected to a data network via wifi or GSM. Then go to wwwDOTandroidlostDOTcom and follow the instructions on their site. I hope this helps. "Since this is my first post I am unable to put web links so Dot is used in place of (.)

The phone's sim has been disabled. My wife already has a new sim and new phone. I don't think I can remotely install apps anymore. And before blocking the sim, lookout hadn't been installed. I suppose I could've tried to push lookout, but it still has to be run and activated before it can be used. And I doubt the thief would've done that.
The reason they gave was A) they don't disable IMEIs on stolen and lost phones and B) they have no way to do it (which I called BS on and said connect me to someone who can, they wouldn't)
Ok I was able to install androidlost apparently. At least it said it could send it to the phone. However I go to the website and it says the program needs to be run on the phone first. Like I said, doubt the person will do that. And I can't send an SMS to it to start it, since the sim has been disabled. Now if I knew the phone number of the SIM they plugged into it then maybe I could do something. I also put lookout plan b on. Again I can't send it a text and I don't know if it will really even install. If they've thrown a new SIM, MAYBE plan B will work and send an email to my wife's gmail and MAYBE it'll have the phone number in it, from which I can text to start androidlost.
Edit: God I wish I'd known about plan B before we disabled it
Edit2: Anyone know if the person plugs another sim card in, will Google Play still be able to download to it?
If they dont change the google account then yes it will install. Otherwise mate your screwed. But as a aside you now know about things that can be done to help find the device. I suggest looking into cerabus for your current phones. You can set it up to remain through a factory reset/data wipe on rooted phones. Im sorry this happened and we cant offer much more help.
That's sucks man! There is a way to track a phone via imei and what tower they are connected to but i think that software is only available to certain agencies (the feds...lol). No matter what SIM is in the phone, or if there is even a sin in it, when you send an app to it via play store, it installs as long as your Google account hasn't been removed from the device.

Well I installed both Plan B and Lookout but no emails from plan B At least I know if they do put a SIM card in, even for another carrier, I can still install stuff to it as long as the google account isn't changed. Of course I have no way of knowing if the google account is changed. Actually...if the google account is changed, will it disappear from the list of devices I can install to on the Google Play store? Does the fact it's still listed as one of my devices I can install things to mean the google account hasn't been changed?
Cerberus looks awesome. Actually, what if I just go ahead and buy and install Cerberus to it remotely? Does it need to be configured/enabled on the device itself before it starts being able to be tracked by the cerabus web site and give me the new phone number of a changed SIM?
Edit: Aw nuts. Cerberus DOES have to be configured on the phone itself and granted permissions. DAMN I wish I'd thought about this issue before. Also wish she'd at least put the PIN or pattern lock on her phone. I put it on mine but she didn't put it on hers. That would've prevented someone from getting into the phone unless they wiped the ROM, right?
Edit2: I went ahead and put Cerberus on my own phone and bought a license I was so impressed.. This is way better than Lookout. I hid if from my app drawer, but how do you make it so a person can't uninstall it? It still shows up on the list of installed programs.
I think you need to be rooted for that. I would ask the support for cerebus Im not real sure I just know people on reddit speak very highly of it.
All they have to do is factory reset it.....all gone.....and if its got a security lock when you wake the device all they have to do is the 3 button combo into recovery and do factory reset.....either way....your phone is gone and tmobile dont care cuz most likely it will be of use to someone else hoping with thier service....plus hey they just made a few more bucks from you
With celebrus it will persist through a factory reset/data wipe. The only way it will be removed is if they wipe system.
I guess they will do that too.
I always neglected these anti theft apps, since they appeared too heavy and RAM consuming..
I decided to take the chance, but I agree - it's a real bummer, our entire lives are in these devices.

I'm pretty impressed with Cerberus. It consumes <1mb RAM, it has a disguised version, if your phone is rooted it will survive a factory reset, if the person change SIMs it will send you a message with the new # (which you can then send secret cerberus commands to), if the person changes the gmail account on the phone it will still work -- it's a SLICK program. It has an SMS command method and a web dashboard and you can do all sorts of stuff - track location, lock, display a message, sound an alarm, wipe SD, record video or audio, all sorts of stuff. It has a disguised version too (need root though) and the person can't uninstall it.
God I wish I'd installed this on my wife's phone. It's only $3 too, one time fee and you can install it on 5 devices with that license. No monthly fee. Just for comparison, Lookout has a 21MB RAM footprint.
I've not tried the Avast anti theft program but it sounds nice too. I'm not trying to shill for Cerberus here, I'm just really impressed. And damn I wish I'd put it on there before it got stolen...
Unfortunately no carrier will be willing to block a stolen phones imei

disabling sim is one of the worst things you can do to it, cause you block communication to it unless the other person puts a sim card with a data plan in it.

Indeed very true. I learned that the hard way.
To elaborate - you can remotely install tracking software from the play store to give you a chance to recover it, wipe it and other useful tools.
Hello guys,
After loosing my HTC ONE X on the street a week ago, I bought from some guy an almost brand new GALAXY S3 without knowing it is a VERIZON version.
I live in Israel so i had no idea what is the meaning of buying a device that will work only on Verizon network, we only have GSM here.
The guy i bought it from also had no idea what it means as his father bought it on the US and brought it here wishing to sell it as he had no use in it.
Without realizing the mistake I've made, I then made another one, Taking out the VERIZON SIM CARD and giving it back to the owner!
I thought to myself... well... that's his SIM CARD, not gonna be using that one...
Well, i got home to find out i'm in trouble with this deal I've made, i searched for a way to unlock it for GSM networks and i saw that here in XDA someone made it possible.
As i started working on it i had to download from Google play an application, when i was asked to pay for it i saw it's running on the old owners google account, so i decided i don't wanna pay with my credit while he might get the receipt for it and i figured i should do a Factory Data Reset for the phone and start from point zero the whole process.
Sadly i had no idea i'm doing another big mistake because when the phone finished the reset it asked for a VERIZON SIM CARD in order to run, well you know where that SIM Card is - back at the previous owner and i'm not even sure i will be able to track him down again.
I wish to get this device working without any traces of Verizon, maybe beside the name on the back panel of the device.
Now that the device won't even run without the SIM, what should i do ?
Thanks in advance,
Ohad.

Thanks but i was able to track down the previous owner and get the verizon sim card.
I found away to use it on GSM but still im very disappointed because im not sure there´s a real way to remove any trace for the verizon stuff installed here and there are few errors like it is connected to the provider but it says no verizon sim card connected.
and im not so sure all the device's frequencies are "open" for my provider.
I was wondering if there's any option to burn an international galaxy version to the device and it will bypass all of these issues.

not unless you want paperwieght for a device.
Why don't you just flash CM10 or similar to get rid of all the VZW stuff.... that's what I did.

Not sure how to do so, but either way i'm not sure i will get the device working completely normally with my local SIM card on a gsm network, without bugs, without asking me to put a verizon sim card all the time, without having any option to update the device...
I dunno, i thought i could easily get this Galaxy version to become unlocked completely and get it running like all the other guys around...
Unless anybody here have a good recommendation about what should i do to overcome the verizon and networks issues, maybe i should just sell this guy on ebay and get a normal version...
Do you think this would be a smart move to do ?
Beemer - after you flash the CM10, do you still need to unlock the device and do you still get issues running on other than Verizon providers or do you enjoy a device that is similar to the worldwide versions ?
Thanks,
Ohad.
If you flash an international ROM on a Verizon S3, your phone will no longer power on or do anything useful. That's why it will become a paperweight. Flashing an international ROM on your Verizon S3 is one of the easiest ways to make it useless.
International=quad-core us=s4 processor, very different guts.I'd listen to the ppl on this forum, unless you want to end up with a paper weight.

Know it works on Touchwiz roms. It may not be in AOSP based roms.
Well, i flashed CM10 successfully, i was able to receive and send SMS before with the Stock ROM, and also to make/receive phone calls but i had sim card issues and errors and also some unwanted Verizon apps and stuff.
After updating the device to the latest Verizon version, i couldn't make phone calls, just receive and i could send and receive SMS.
Now that device runs much faster on the CM10 and i can make/receive phone calls but i can't send SMS.
*UPDATE: I have updated to the latest CM10 version, now i can't connect to the provider at all... no internet/phone/sms at all.
SOS
Ok, Im going to try a different tactic, i saw some people tried flashing At&t Roms on their verizon devices and they done it with success.
So far i tried doing it twice, one time with CM10 ROM for at&t, the 2nd time with stock at&t ROM.
I've tried doing it through CWM.
Both times i got an error while installing... it just didn't move on.
Luckly i had the CM10 for the verizon Zip file over there aswell so i installed that ROM again just to get the device running.
Any ideas how to flash the AT&T ROM on the Verizon Device ???
Heya folks,
My mother had an evo shift, but moved on. I'm thinking of putting it up on swappa. To that end, I just want to make sure I've left nothing behind for the next owner.
I did a factory reset, then I booted into recovery and factory reset from there as well. Here's the thing... when I look into the phone identity, it still lists her old number. Now, on my thunderbolt I fixed it by removing the SIM (because it had a LTE radio). The CDMA shift has no SIM though.
My mother has left Sprint and went to T-Mo... so how does one reset this piece of information? Does it even matter?

I would just wipe the phone and reinstall a new rom or install the RUU. As for the phone number @sprintpcs.com info, just go to a sprint store and have them deactivate the account. They are going to have to provision the phone again. You may be able to call Sprint tech support too. But they are going to do it on their end. Their is a dial code, but I can't think of it off hand. If you can find that dial code and MSL, you can do it. But just call.
Best, and easiest thing to do is to call Sprint as Ivpre said. Have them Deactivate the account. Make sure your on a Sense Rom with working ESPT before you call. Just in case they have you do anything. That is if your not going to run an RUU. Which I would recommend.
