In between switching roms and restoring backed up texts, I lost a few new incoming text messages. Any way to force the server (or whatever) to resend me the texts I missed?
How did you "miss" them?
And no. Your pretty much out of luck.

They came in, and I mistakenly thought that when I restored old texts (via AppExtractor) it would not overwrite the new texts.
Thanks for the quick reply.

Is it just me this happens to or do others have this problem.
When I restore my data after a ROM flash using PPCPimBackup, the text messages in the 'threaded' view type are not ordered correctly for each contact. instead of being ordered by time and date, it puts all of their messages first and then puts all of my sent messages.
(the threaded messaging acts normal for any new text messages, its only the restored ones which this happens to)
did you restart the phone? in my experience it is needed after a restore.
working
Okay just flashed my ROM to v2.2 and this time when i did the restore its worked fine.
at first it didnt have any inbox threads then they started to appear after a restart, it sorted all the incoming messages into date order but this time it didnt show any of my sent texts in the threads. so after another restart and a 30min wait for it to put my sent texts into the right place its all sorted
i guess iv got a few too many texts for WM to handle!
Everyone once in a while, I'll be unable to send messages out and I'll notice that I'm not receiving any. Is this related to the issue where people are not receiving phone calls on the Mes I've heard about? Once I reboot, it seems to work again but then the cycle repeats.
I'm on the Heinz's latest build
Did you check your contacts numbers? If there is a + sign in front, it can cause issues

Also do you have MMS? If you're SMS app is set to convert long SMS to MMS and you don't have MMS, you'll run into problems.
nope. no + in my phone numbers and no, the messages arent long. I do have unlimited MMS to so it shouldnt matter anyways.
Have you tried a different SMS app such as GO SMS or Handcent?
I'm on Orange (UK) and 2 days ago I lost the ability to text one number. I tried deleting the queue of unsent messages and reset the settings within the messaging app. This didn't help and I now can't send any SMS at all, they instantly fail. Annoyingly, they work fine with my T-Mobile Sim. I've tried updating the message centre number with the one given by Orange but it's not worked. I've now done a full wipe and reflashed my ROM and I still can't send messages. Everything else works fine.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
Is it something on the carrier side.... Seems to me if it works fine with another sim then it's either a problem with the carrier or maybe you have the wrong apn settings.... But i am not sure that effects text messages
Also this might be a dumb suggestion but maybe try downloading a third party messaging client like chomp

Thanks for the reply, I agree that it's likely to be a network issue, I was just hoping to avoid a long call to customer service!
EDIT: I got them to send me the settings via SMS and everything's back to normal again. Phew!

Title says it all...
Problems: duplicate incoming texts, forever/never downloading mms (when received with data off), and just yesterday I received a text that sent to me back in March...
As far as outgoing, other than having messages fail to send due to signal strength, I have no clue if I'm sending multiple texts or if all texts are being received. I haven't really done any testing. This problem is just really annoying and persistent.
Current Setup: Tweaked 2.2, FP1 kernel, ext4
I did a full wipe before flashing, the only thing that I can think of is that I restored mms/sms from TB. I have this problem once or twice in the past but then it always went away once I flashed a newer update or different ROM.
You guys think clearing data on the Messaging apk might help? There is also MMS Provisioning...?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I find that the double texts I get are problems from the other side (mostly t-mobile users). As for receiving mms with data off, you can only send/receive mms with data (no wifi).

I know about data & mms (and larger sms texts), but I was hoping this wasn't thanks to VZW and instead something with my setup...
Sorry I should have clarified this a little better:
In the past, if I sent/received a mms, I would need to switch data on for it to actually download/upload. In other words, the message would just sit there until I switched data on, and then it would do it's thing. Usually, this would only take a few seconds. Now, when I try to send/receive I actually have to have data on before I send/receive, or else the message will just sit there downloading/uploading and never finish. At which point it seems to slow down my phone, until I just delete the unsent/not received message.
I hope that makes more sense.
You can go into an app like System Panel and kill Messaging to reset your "Downloading..." message. Be sure you turn data on before you relaunch the app.

You've solve a mystery I've been unable to figure out for some time! I never realized mms didn't work over wifi. I could never figure out why I would sometimes get photos via txt, and sometimes not. Always thought it was stupid Verizon being...um...stupid. Why is that?
Thanks!

I tried the System Panel tip, and I also tried just force closing Messaging, but neither seemed to work. I eventually just re-flashed everything from scratch and my messaging issues are gone. Its weird, maybe it was just a coincidence or timing with VZW....?
Oh well, thanks for the help/responses guys.
Hi guys,
I am currently on Beanstalk v4.4 (rooted and unlocked bootloader)and I seem to have problems sending text messages. When replying to a text, the first text reply I send is able to go through but then subsequent texts I send have issues sending and the problem persists for about 30 mins or so at which point I am finally able to send one more message...
So all in all, I'm only able to send a SMS once in a while any ideas for a fix?

No current fix(other than going back to TW) but here is the most prominent discussion thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658572
The fix seems to be going back to TW and doing an NVrestore if you have a backup, reprovisioning if you don't. Then you can restore your nandroid and be back in business.
