According to the phone specs, it doesn't support NFC.
But there are two metal contacts in the back, near the battery, that connect to the back cover.
Removing the back cover doesn't seem to affect gsm, wifi, bluetooth or gps reception.
So I am wondering if it could be some hidden NFC support and whether there is a way to test it.

Doesn't seem...If there would be NFC support in the device, then Samsung would surely reveal that feature when the phone was launched..because it will directly increase their sales. But they didn't..no chance for NFC..

Seems to NOT be the case....
List of NFC-Phones
Would be neat if there's a possibility to get it, some how....
Yes, I know about the specs, but what about my photos? What could these metal contacts to the back cover be?
The kernel source (released from Samsung) hasn't any NFC driver related code apart from the chipset's support for NFC chips.
In the ROM there is firmware for the PN544 (the NFC chip of Nexus S) but libnfc.so is missing. I tried copying it just in case from a Nexus S 2.3.4 ROM but it didn't work of course.
Since some i9103s are supposed to be NFC enabled, I guess it may just be that part of the NFC hardware is there because differentiation in some parts would make for bigger manufacturing costs but some other parts (like the actual NFC chip) are missing.
I still hope though!

May be NFC not annonced cause it ICS feature, so it will be revealed later, when galaxy royal will be upgrated to ICS. For now they dont actually need to increase 9103 sales, they want to sell galaxy II as much as possible first. IMHO.

Your metallic pins are used for inductive charging pads (usually stick inside back of the case or over the battery).
^^^ is right... Galaxy s3 has it too... It's for wireless charging.... I think the methods to add wireless charging (using the palm pixie back cover) to s3 even works for this...

Friend of mine asked me to repair his galaxy s4 screen, well after taking a good look at it i think it might be a knock off or (clone). My concern is if I purchase a OEM part for a galaxy s4 im pretty sure its not going to be the same part.
The screen is cracked where i cant get into the settings menu so unable to tell the version of android it is on or verify the phone model. I included a few pictures hope i can get some help.
Basicly my question is what phone model is this if it isnt the S4 or how can I find out.
Thanks,
Kory

Highly doubt it's real. A real S4 would have Samsung branding on the battery. It has dual SIM capabilities so that says it was made in, and for a Chinese area. The micro SD on an official S4 is not in that position. The front screen looks cheap, as well as the back plastic. I am pretty sure it's a clone, or Samsung just dramatically reduced its quality for its lower-income markets in foreign countries
Edit: Also, the font is not stock. Course one can change the font, but I assume the user didn't. Fake phones tend to have different fonts
a real galaxy s4 doesnt look like this .....I found an s4 with triple sim slots and , again , it doesnt look like that . I agree.... its fake

There are plenty of them around. Just search "proximity screen" or something related in the play store. Some are feature-rich and some are very simple. Just depends on your taste.
BTW, I think this should be in Themes & Apps, but I'm not a mod, so, we'll see

Yea... But i want to know if these apps use more power because of proximity sensor instead of that magnet which is used in original case

In speaking out of experience when I say they do. The proximity sensor is usually off when not making a call.

One's that rely on sensors does not work well, you need to enable extra sensitivity as the touch does not work too well, although they don't work too well, the menu has much more feature than the OEM. I have a few from different brand lying around, they come with a scratch card with a code and a link to download a app, the code is used to enable to app.
photo's are not in order, I have also the remax to work with the chipset just like the OEM one.

Damn those look kinda cool! Is it possible these apks would work for the oem case? If so could you post them here as well?
The APK does not work with the OEM, the OEM rely on the magnet located at the bottom of the cover, these cover has the magnet at the top, the remax also has the magnet at to bottom, and a cut out for the chipset just like the OEM, so I have added a chipset on the cover and it will work just like the OEM.
The APK also needs a code to activate it, otherwise it will not work.
I tried using a 3rd party s-view case from spiegen and holy crap it was horrendous. I'm not really sure which manufacturers might actually have a half decent app s-view app, but it certainly wasn't spiegen. Ended up returning it and going for the genuine Samsung one.

I've tried many apps for the s view covers, non of them are acceptable, too much lagg and most of the time does not work, just stick with a good non oem/oem cover using the chipset.
I know the phone is still not in the hands of everyday usage. But im worried about the antenna signal, particularly with LTE, I have the m7 now and in my house i get lte as long as im not holding my phone. This is partly due to metal framing of the phone and im worried if i chose the s6 im going to have similar issues.
Im really hoping that the metal design on the new phone does not impact lte signal significantly. I need fast lte at home since i dont have internet at the house. Does anyone know any specfics on methods or design that should hopefully let this phone have great signal
The phone doesn't have a metal back like the htc phones, it has a metal frame with a colored glass back.

I was referring to the rumor that samsung is ultrasonically welding the antenna to the chassis. Obviously its not a metal back i know the difference between metal and glass fortunately!
Do we know for sure if the lte modem will be ultrasonically welded to the chassis or is it just going to sit under the glass?
So I just found this which is concerning, looks like m9 shows better rf signals for lte bands . I hope this phone doesn't have modem and signal issues
s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-3...rock-out-with-their-flagships-for-the-season/
So the M9 has way better signal... Wonder how this plays out in the real world. This does worry me though I frequent places with low (almost non-existant) signal coverage...

Yea which is making me nervous, one of the main reasons i was ecstatic to get rid of my m7 was signal issues and figured the m9 wouldnt have fixed much but now it seems i may have similar issues with the s6 compared to the m7.
I was dead set on getting an m9 simply for boomsound and the fact ive been with HTC for quite some time now. Never thought i would consider a samsung phone, but then they changed my mind by ditching the plastic and adding fingerprint scanner which ive been wanting since the atrix.
Has anyone out there found a decent desktop cradle? I like to stand my phone up on the night stand while charging.
Got this one a few weeks ago for $8...worth it IMO, the quality and construction are both great esp for the price: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0126HG28I/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Any pics of it in the stand/connector/power cable etc? Thx Would be nice to have one at work to stand the phone up instead of it sitting on my notepad flat.
Maybe at home as a charge stand at night as well.
I bought one of these a while back when I had the wireless adapter for my M8.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M4OB1WG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00
If anyone is still interested in this, I ordered this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018PJ6EBG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
*****UPDATE*******
This will NOT NOT NOT work with the A9. I sent it back to the seller with a rant. Obviously they didn't test it, the USB connection is 180 degrees out.

I use a cheap business card holder, it is black and mesh and my phones have all fit very well in it on their side.

Anyway, can't find a desktop cradle worth beans anywhere. Pretty sad how the A9 support is so limited.

The problem is HTC don't make the charging in the middle but they keep moving the port in/out a little in the side from model to model. For example, the dock for m7 won't fit the m8, the dock for m8 won't fit the m9. While the dock for m9 has same width as the a9 but the port location is off just a little. If they would just put the freaking charging in the middle, we can use the dock from the m8 or m9.
This one would work if you don't mind the phone is off center: http://www.amazon.com/First2savvv-d...&qid=1455986552&sr=1-10&keywords=htc+one+dock
I used one of the dock for the M9 before and the problem is it disables the Quick Charge feature. It takes a long time to charge the phone. But I only tried one. If you have one that work with Quick Charger then please let me know.
Someone just need to make a dock where the charging port slides back and forth.
I have seen some articles saying there was no ir blaster on the S7. Is this true?
From the pics I've seen, it looks like it is there... But I can't find it on the spec list.
Thanks

A review I read yesterday said this is the IRBlaster. Not sure if it was right but it looks in the right position and if it isn't the IRBlaster, what else could it be? A microphone? Perhaps, but I'm not sure why. Anyway, I wouldn't write off infrared just yet unless it's been confirmed by Samsung as definitely not having it.
@Beefheart
thats the second microphone, since many years back most phones does have dual mics...
Solution for IR removal
About the missing IR blaster, I have a solution for that.
It's a Kickstarter campaign soon to be launch,
We will support also the S7, and then you will have the IR blaster on S7. That way you will enjoy the wonderful S7 and still have IR in your smartphone.
You can check it out here:
eyekickstarter.com
It's been removed since the Note5 / s6 edge plus. In reality it's a pretty obsolete technology, but wouldn't have minded if it stuck around.

Far from obsolete.. Samsung still ship their new 4k curved TVs with infra-red technology as do all TV manufactures. Air-con and home theatre systems use IR too. This is just to cut costs.
It really shouldn't be a deal breaker for anyone, unless of course you lose your remote control all the time..
No Infrared in S7
It is a shame that samsung has not included IR Blaster in Samsung S7 because the phone of this caliber and price should be well equipped with all advanced features.
great for switching channels during football match in pub.??
