Throttled...solved!!!! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Wow...just got hit with the Throttle. I've only used 6 gigs (had iphone before) this billing cycle and my brand new LTE Skyrocket (which was getting around 58mbps in Tyson's Corner) is now getting about 100kbps. This is some straight BS. My contract is only a week old, so thinking of returning this phone and switching. Whats the point of having unlimited if you can't use it.
Edit:
This is what has been working for me to "bypass" the throttle. It at least gets me HSPA+ speeds.
I'm using the Rocketeer ROM and I changed the APN and also forced the Network Mode to GSM/HSPA (Auto Mode)

Most of that is from my iphone.

Nope. Standard. Been streaming a lot of netflix..slingbox..etc. They sent me a text warning yesterday to watch my usage or I could have reduced speeds and then throttled me the next day. Didn't even give me a chance to change.

I know exactly what you mean about the throttling. I'm actually here in DC as well (Arlington) and use the Skyrocket and it ate up 500 MB!
Tried loading of all sitesTwitter and got a message. "Rate limit exceeded."
I'm on a 4 GB plan so watching the data usage really closely.
Have you tried switching to one of the lower grade signals? I've been having trouble doing that since it looks like the LTE radio is locked tight and can't be changed at all.

On LTE, you can use 2gb of data in 20 minutes.

Ugh that sucks man, they should really relax those rules for us LTE users. Why give customers all that bandwidth only to keep the same rules as their slow 3G network? Doesn't make much sense to me

Overage fees are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Wow damn, surprised that they haven't throttled me.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium

Throttling was put in effect to limit us who are grandfathered into the unlimited plans. The only way to stop it is to switch to one of the tiered plans...which no one should do obviously.

I think that 2GB limit is absurb for LTE users. You really could blow through that in a matter of days with regular use (or minutes if you really wanted to)

I'm gonna call in and complain, though I'm not sure it will do much. I mean 6 gigs isn't anything. I've got 10 days left in this cycle so more than likely I will only use 3-4 more gigs. Plus I'm still within i'm time to cancel my contract. We'll see how this goes. One of my biggest gripes is that they gave me ONE DAY WARNING!!! I mean, ok I get it, but send me a text and then throttle me the next day.

Wow, this is depressing. I don't want to switch from AT&T for the sole reason that I have unlimited data. I'm going to see what happens in the near future and maybe just say **** it and switch. No point in staying for unlimited if it isn't unlimited.

Tmobile is "unlimited" but you still get throttled as well
so there's no point switching
no carriers will offer true unlimited now in days

I know, sad.

if there is any benefit, throttling is better than reverting you to a tiered plan...
either way, it sucks. it is disappointing that wireless networks are getting so advanced that their speeds rival home connections... and yet, carriers hamstring us so we can barely take advantage of these speeds.

Ok..here is where it get even more F'd up. I called in..*****ed and complained and they basically told me too bad. The first too people I talked to couldn't confirm I was actually being throttled. The last person they spoke to (told me they deal specifically with this situation) told me that yes I have been throttled and I could either choose a tiered plan and pay extra per gig or use wifi. I told them I was going to go to Verizon because they are doing 10gigs per month for 5..and they said, "I understand your frustation and am sorry" but wouldn't do anything to remove the throttle.
Mind you I average about 10 gigs a month when I was on my iphone 4...and NEVER received a text. Within 5 days of me getting the SKYROCKET and going on an LTE network I get these texts and am now throttled..but here is where it gets interesting.........
For the past few days I was having trouble accessing certain sites, the phone would often just clock. I would disable and reenable the data radio and I could some how get on them. I read on here about changing your APN to force HSPA and this would fix it...it did. But I wanted LTE and I left it alone. Today I get the whole tethering fiasco and speed test are showing 120k..all day on LTE...
Earlier today a friend of mine was having the same slow loading sites issues on their SII and I walked them through setting up the APN and while walking them through I put mine back on HSPA. About an hour ago, i'm in DC and do a speed test for the heck of it and BAM....7mbps. I'm like WTF!!! I notice that i'm not on LTE and remember that I left it on HSPA. I switch back to ATT APN and the LTE symbol comes back and BAM 120k. So either LTE in DC is jacked or they are only throttling me on LTE. Some straight shady stuff by ATT.

And people were questioning me on why I thought this phone would be more desirable for people that have Unlimited Data. Throttled or not, at least you can still go above and beyond 2GB and not spend a ton of cash. I only use about 250MB as it is and I'll never give up my unlimited - but something tells me AT&T has a plan to down the road.

I feel the same way. One way or another, they will get us out of our "unlimited" plan. In fact, I was really surprised they let us keep it, switching to LTE.

T-Mo have a data plan change?

I downloaded the "my account" applications this morning to check my usage. And something came up pretty odd.

any know if T-Mo changed their data usage policy ?
When I bought a couple of MT4Gs in December, I moved to a 3000 minute Family plan, with "unlimited" data. So my info looks similar.

Yea but t-mo "should" be throttling after 5Gb of data usages. And i haven't got any text, email, call or anything about being over that by 2Gb.
I'm just wondering if they heard the masses scream and listened.
i have unlimited data and such, and my data usage doesn't show up under my usage if I use the "my account" app... weird
*edit*
I'm using the one that was pre-loaded on the phone, not the one from the market... doesn't look like the screen shot though
The my account app is very inaccurate. Not sure about data, but it ALWAYS gets the minutes wrong.
Let me shed some light on this for you guys. Yes TMo has changed the dataplan which now include $10 for 200MB or $30 for unlimited. Now keep in mind Unlimited does not truly mean its unlimited as the soft cap is around 5GB but its not always enforced but only to those top 1% heavy user who are throttled to EDGE 128kbps until next cycle restarts.
BTW option94 the update is not real time as its periodic which consists of few sessions and thats how they post the data. As TMo sometime share towers with 3rd party for those can take up to 30days yes 30days to reflect on your bill. It even shows up on your next bill if you even used it on this bill.

Considering on official TMobile forum I saw 19gb/month screenshot and another 17gb/month without any TOS with standard $19.99 unlimited data plan. So IDK they make treat it case by case who knows or they don't care, did policy change? This was just 4-5months ago.
First of all thats Carriers way of making money extra from same bandwidth. Hence the whole bandwidth crunch BS? They sold the service claiming its unlimited then they couldn't define unlimited and stated is subjected to TOS for excessive use without clearly defining it. It wasn't until ComCRAP's fiasco they had to legally come out or face same fines by FCC. Now from what I read in that thread and man that was long thread like 7-8pages or something. The user used torrents, downloaded XXXX lol, did light tether but mostly bandwidth quota was hit by P2P.
P2P FTW always the reason you should have seen my FServ spec and stats my ISP wasn't very happy me hosting my own server and pulling 3.5TB TX bandwidth.
TMoUS has 5GB soft limit far as I know but what I am saying is as I had asked those folks if they were contacted by the Abuse team they told me no as they were never notified or given warning. Normally when you get passed there quota which I myself believe 19GB is high on mobile device. I don't think TMo simply enforced it, now if everyone keep doing this they will. I myself have never personally went over 2.5GB/month usually is at 250-500mb/month.

I can attest to that-got a text from them the other day saying I was over the 5gb cap and my 4g is now throttled until the day after my billing cycle ends...lame....wish they could offer true unlimited without it affecting their network....

So basically

The soft cap is still in place.. I know, since I'm still running at 50kbps as of this morning.

Ya don't worry about it. This is done to target the heavy users in to switching them to plan which they will implement for the tethering, basically they are milking the cow for whats it worth lol with same service before but for higher price. Always trust the Bandwidth Guy
Anything over 5gb you are throttled, if you have a plan after 11/3/10...... prior to that it was 10gb. All carriers are coming up with phones (Iphone 4) to get you to renegotiate the contracts so they can phuc you.
You may go over 5gb and still have unthrottled speed but as I was told by a t-mobile field technician you will only be slowed when the tower is seeing high usage, ie. you will be the first to get slowed to EDGE speeds. So in my case, I love my new Mytouch 4g half the month and the rest of the time its my Mytouch 2g....... great selling point huh??
It pisses me off too because it goes back to the American way....If you had enough money to get your new phone at $500 dollars you could have kept your TRUELY unlimted data plan like the congressmen, movie stars, professional athletes, yes and even the trust fund babies...LMFAO

I'm hoping the government breaks them (att) up again like when we were kids. It is still a monopoly and that government apparently cared about the citizens more than the money lobbyist brought them.

Lmfao yeah lets bust his cap and show him how bad it sux. The only plans that aren't caped are old accounts that haven't been upgraded in over 2-3 years or if you are in the "elite class" and of course tmobile dealers/select employees. There is more too I'm sure....

I got hit by softcap once on laptop plan during the experiment (pushed hard to pass the limit), so the softcap is real. A buddy of mine got hit a few times (he got 12-14GB) too.
The only reason I haven't been throttled is because I use Wifi at home. I'm at 2.5GB for the month but if I had service in my room that would easily double.
My phone is my main computer. As people become more dependent on mobile devices they should be increasing bandwidth limits. It would be nice to see T-Mobile increasing bandwidth as well as speeds. What good is a 42Mbps connection if it's only that fast half the time?

Using G2X on Straight Talk

Well, its come down to economies. Dishing out 80+ bucks a month is starting to get to me. Believe me, it hurts lol. 79.99 yeah right, after taxes, misc charges, I'm paying more like $90 a month.
So I read that Straight Talk GSM SIM will work on unlocked phones. I happen to get a Nokia E71 on Craigslist. I was pissed that I didn't thoroughly test that it was a Straight Talk phone and impossible to unlock. So, I did some research and turns out Straight talk plan is super cheap, will work on unlocked Android and Jailbroken IPHONE 4.
Out of sheer amusement, I went ahead and activated the Straight Talk phone and tested the SIM on my G2X. Also happen to unlock it a few days ago. Did some digging around and you have to Modify the APN for Data and MMS to work. I got it to work. Its edge......
I might just switch. Tmobile has been awesome. Kinda pissed that I'll be stuck on Edge, but my bill will be cut in half. I'll port my line to Google Voice, and use my G2X with ST prepaid. Just wondering if anyone else tried this?
Still doing some testing, and this ST runs of AT&T towers. My brother has AT&T from his job, and I swear his calls drop after 5 mins. Its a nightmare, and honestly if I run into that kind of crap service, I'll have to stay with Tmobile. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
Only bad side is doing this **** violates TOS with Straight talk. They'll kick/bann/kill my account if I'm caught. I don't mind the E71. Also heard not to abuse their unlimited data. Anyone with a AT&T phone, its like giving them the finger cause you get same service, except ya pay less.
EDGE sucks. I wouldn't worry about abusing data over EDGE. It's OKAY, but you won't have a problem abusing it. If they do provide 3G data services, I would want to get an unlocked ATT smartphone for use rather than the G2X.
Yeah man I thought of this. I pay nearly 250$ a month for mine and my mothers phone... I was told by someone else that thought of it and tried there would be no more 3g or 4g data speeds and I just can't live like that. I'll just keep on keeping on. Cheaper than big red
Sent from my MeGaBoT Transformer!
Yes, AT&T Phone is what will work.
Did speed tests on E71. Its the only phone I have with 3G AT&T Radio. Speeds were great.
And you know the sad part is, the other phones for AT&T aren't that great. Granted, G2X has problems but its a way better phone. Samsung Galaxy SII is only phone I could possible leave for.
Still testing and brainstorming this. I have an idea what to do, but it all means moving to Edge
Well just spoke with T-Mobile Rep and signed a 2 year plan.
Wow can't believe I did that eh. But I got the 49.99 unlimited everything and at 4g speeds. Didn't have to get two lines or anything. It applied to my single account only. Pleased in the end, kinda sucks I had to sign a 2 year contract but for comparable rates to prepaid straight talk, forget edge. Was ready to leave.
Guess I am here to stay. Also got my 3500mha extended battery arrive. Hell, and my g2x wont have a battery problem.
Guess should have checked all this before doing this straight talk experiment. Dam I feel like fool. Oh well

Not Exactly. He got the value plan that comes with out any discounted phone. With free phone the same plan will cost $80.
Yes, what he said, I had the plan where I pay full price for my phones.
Anyhow, I called this morning and turns out the customer service rep messed up and misspoke. That 49.99 was in error and did require 2 lines. I had one, an was pushed to the 59.99 actually it was more like 65.00
But whatever, going to T-mobile prepaid. I reversed the contract. Wow that was quickest back pedal ever. I used to need 4G but rarely use it now a days. I'm really looking to pay $50 a month. Prepaid is my only option, until I get a AT&T phone and revisit straight talk.
But whatever. Just looking to not have expensive bill each month.
Wow I didn't realize how expensive plans were in the US.
My I pay $30/mo for unlimited data, text, and talk (voicemail+call display, etc. too).
Only downside is the coverage area is relatively small (but thats okay, it has it where I live and work)

Works out about right...
30 dollars Canadian = 80 dollars US.
[added in case the attempt at humor isn't seen. But its damn close. The dollar is in the toilet.]
I had the $79.99 1500 min, unlim text, 5 gb 4g data, but signed up for the Tmobile Value Plan and paid a $200 migration fee.
Now I get 500 mins, unlimited wifi mins, unlim text, 2gb 4G data then unlim throttled speed for 49.99 and a 15% discount which makes it 42.50 a month. Not bad. They charged me a second $200 migration fee the second month and had to speak to a manager who took care of the bogus fee. Thank god I caught that and canceled my autobill with Tmobile since then.
You have to use your own Tmobile phone with the Value Plan. I was lucky enough to have ONE full upgrade available on my account due to the problems I had with the G2X. Don't know if I will use it for the Samsung Hercules. If you want a new phone with this program Tmobile will give you a payment plan of 21 months on the phones purchased at Tmobile retail or online website with the value plan. $500 full price phone would be 21 monthly payments of $23 added to your phone bill. I would rather get a used phone from Ebay or Craigs.
Unlimited WiFi Minutes? You mean you didn't have unlimited WiFi minutes before?
Yeah, get a ATT android phone (I like the Atrix) if you want 3g on straight talk.
I'm using Simple Mobile. $60.00 unlimited everything. It's a real good deal.

The value plan is only better if you have a good device already and don't care about not getting any discounted upgrades ever...
For one person i'd go classic plan for 69.99 unl everything, 500 minutes and free wifi calling and you get a much cheaper phone, especially if you go somewhere else than the corporate store.
2 people you could get 1000 min and all that for $120

Questions regarding g2x and ST e71 Sim
Hello every one here.
I'm new to the site and have learned a lot just reading posts here already. I'm posting here because this thread was most related to what I have to ask. I have been useing Straight talk for about 3 1/2 years now and I bought an e71 when they first came out. I did not know I could use the sim in different phones until recently. I got a Tmobil G2x from some one my wife knows thinking that its on the att network and i could use the sim card in it. I paid to get an unlock code and am able to make calls and sms but i have not been able to get data(web or mms) to work. I have searched google as well as the search button here. according to what i read here I should be able to get edge speed connection but apparently im doing something wrong.

And finally I had another question about the G2x, on mine I can't seem to get a decent volume out of my ringtones. I have tried several apps but none will let me get any thing better than the 7/7 on the volume slider. Does any one have a sujestion for boosting the ringtone volume? or am I just out of luck on that too?
Even though I dumped straight talk, now you don't even need to buy their E71 phone. They sell the SIM
Here are the APN Settings. I'll tell you, the G2X has some weird, and I do mean very weird settings. You use 1 APN for MMS and Data.
DELETE ALL APN then create a new APN

Here is some Extra Info:

Here is the thing, Create the APN with the settings above. If it doesn't work, look at the Extra Info and play around with those settings. I had to mess with this settings for few days before I got it to work.
The G2X refuses work with import APN Settings that are out there. I found APN settings import on the Howard forums. They will work on any other device EXCEPT G2X which sucks. Works fine when I imported to G2
The point is, the most StraightTalk settings use separate APN for MMS and DATA. G2X is special (LIke CRAP!!) and uses a single APN for StraightTalk to work.
Try it out. If I still had the SIM or the service active I'd give you word for word what the settings are.
Hope this helps. And when it does work, most you will get is EDGE so no 3G/4G

Switched from AT&T to Straight Talk!!!

For those of you who don't like shelling out the gobs of cash to AT&T...I have the link for you!
http://www.straighttalksim.com/
I received my AT&T sim in the mail from Straight Talk along with the new APN information...and voila...I'm getting the same (if not faster) download speeds than I was with AT&T. Actually, I've been strangely getting more bars than I was w/AT&T. Not sure why...since it's the same network. Anyways...this transformed my bill from $130 per month to $45 per month for unlimited talk, text and web. I don't work for Walmart or anything...I just wanted to share some savings info with those who are interested! When they say on the website "cut your phone bill in half" they're not kidding! I wonder how Wally World can get away with sending AT&T roms...offer the same service...for half the cost? I dunno...but I'm not complaining!
Now...I doubt you'd get 4G speeds....but I've never truly had 4G speeds...so I'm not missing anything.
Thinking about doing this just to activate the inspire I have laying around with a cracked screen. Its between this, and redpocket

I did this last month. Best decision I ever made. The only catch I've found is that the data isn't really unlimited, it's a use it but don't abuse it policy. I believe they will throttle you if you hog too much.
What radio are you using? I think I need a new one, mine keeps switching between 3G and H.
Been thinking of doing the same thing as soon as my contract is up.. Any activation fees or anything like that? What'd they charge for the sim?

I have been using Straight Talk for 6months with a sim card from a Nokia E71. This is known as the old sim swap method. Works great roams and all. From everything I've researched this uses the AT&T postpaid network.
The new sim card program they have charges you $14.95 for the sim card, and they had free shipping. NO activation fees or anything else.
This is the best data speed I've gotten though it's not usually this good. I'm using the 12.56.60.25P_26.10.04.03_M radio

Been thinking of doing this myself. But I have some worries. What happens when one day you decide to stream some video or audio and Straight Talk up and cancels your account? I would hate to lose a telephone number I have had for the last 12 years.

The word is if you keep it under 2gb a month and 170mb a day you should be good. Just use 3g watchdog and monitor it. I stream stuff all the time, just be aware of how much data you are using. I've had no problems though I've never exceeded the so called limits.

WOW! That's a lot of data! I would think they will have to come up with some limits if they are going to cut off service because you are using too much so called "unlimited" data. Guess we'll have to wait and see once this thing gets going full bore. If you can keep your usage to 2gb a month and 170mb a day then this is a great deal! If not I wouldn't risk it at this point..
A few months ago another carrier said unlimited data was unlimited but they could make changes if they saw fit for the network. And everyone thought it meant nothing then. Straight Talk says no media streaming and only download from their network. They could turn on you tomorrow too. I see nothing in writing about 2GB.

UR right nothing in writing about 2gb, but it has been good for me for the last 6 months. If you read the terms they say they can cut you off at anytime pretty much! You're right they could turn at any time. Guess it all depends on your situation, for me I'm willing to take the risk. lol

I looked at Straightalk, too. Wish they had a pay as you go plan, rather than monthly, with similar discount. I like options. There are several of of these non-contract companies but not much chat about them. Thanks for starting the thread, op. I have also heard similar talk about the 2Gb. cap, so that poster didn't just make it up. It might not be in writting but it seems to be what the users are experiencing.
I have decided to go Verizion as soon as my contract is up, ATT sucks. No 4G network and I cannot even get service at my house.

ATT sucks because they don't have phone service in your area? No phone carrier has service everywhere. You never should have stayed with ATT in the first place if you didn't have service. And ATT has a 4G network, at least as much as T-mobile does and as the FCC now defines it. They also have LTE which is faster than Verizon's LTE. And what does your post have to do with Straight Talk?
I too have been thinking of going to ST. I don't go over 5gb. I wonder if that is still to much for them. I don't like att as much as the next person but I do have good signal and do get 4G in my area. Has anyone found anything about the 2gb?

For the record, AT&T's is like that too. They throttle you if you're in the top 5% of data users.

T-Mobile

Anyone here using T-Mobile? I have been using Aio Wireless, but since I generally go over 2GB I have been using the PRO option. It's $70 a month and you get only 7GB of usable data(then they throttle you so bad you can't even read an email). If i switch to T-Mobile pre-paid account(which are identical to post-paid now that they killed all contracts) I can get Unlimited LTE for the same price. So my question isn't about the network which I know varies by town, it's about the carrier in general. Do they throttle? Cap ya? On AIO for example I am hard-capped at well below what post-paid AT&T people can get. How are they on OTAs? I don't know how that works exactly with a Nexus device on a post-paid carrier I have always used an MVNO. Any insight as to how they operate and do business would be very helpful!
NO
Well maybe.

AWESOME that's exactly what I needed to know! They just turned on LTE here in my town recently so I'll find out about the coverage. The map is telling me its wall-to-wall city wide with no blindspots. At any rate it won't hurt to check them out for a month now that I know the speeds aren't throttled and they don't yell about hotspot usage.

Go prepaid for a month. I checked their coverage map and it said the same thing about my area. Bought the N5 from them as soon as it came in. Haven't seen LTE once at my house. I called plenty of times, but no progress.
What's this about them killing contracts? I signed a 2 year plan that I'm currently trying to get out of because their service is garbage, despite what their coverage map says.

As I understand it, T-Mobile contracts no longer exist. But if you got into one prior to this change, you are probably stuck.

stream music(high quality), stream and download an occasion movie, download rom/kernel uodates often, hang out on xda, download rom/kernel updates for my nexus 4/nexus 7, keep my apps updated(2gb games too), keep my two other nexii apps updated.. i can go on. basically i use my nexus the way its meant to be used. and on top of that, i have 25-40mbps download/23mbps+ upload lte speeds. thats why all data plans should be unlimited, so people could use their devices how they were meant to be used.

That story makes me want to do business with them. I know they had little choice in the matter, but their desperation for our business has forced them to be so nice and easy to deal with that comparing them to Big Red or Ole Blue there is just no comparison anymore. I find myself pulling for them, and who would have thought I'd ever pull for a wireless company?

While the plans are the same for pre and post paid, they are a little different in that post paid plans will take preference when there is network congestion. The T-Mobile web site tells you that. I found the download speeds were generally the same for both plans but the upload speeds were a lot faster on postpaid. The upload test on pre paid would start fast then quickly switch to a much slower speed. Not a big deal for me as I think most apps benefit from faster download speeds. No caps as far as I know.

[Q] Leaving Verizon Unlimited Data for T-Mobile and N5

So I've been really thinking of leaving Verizon and my grandfathered unlimited data to switch to T-Mobile and the Nexus 5. I am extremely reluctant to leave the grandfathered plan because I know I won't be able to get it back once I leave. I live in Los Angeles and T-Mobile has decent LTE coverage here. Thought it's still very sparse compared to Verizon. I would be switching over a total of 4 lines, 2 of witch have unlimited data. On Verizon I use about 15gb - 20gb of data (mostly tethering).
The main reason for me wanting to leave is cost savings and available devices. I'm tired of waiting on Verizon for updates to the limited amount of phones they do offer. It seems unless you have an iPhone you're at the mercy of Verizon (even the Galaxy Nexus couldn't resolve this).
I'm looking for anyone who has made the switch and how it's been going? Is it worth it? Any regrets?
I am currently testing a Nexus 5 on T-Mobile and love the phone! The service is decent also. I have a Moto X Dev Edition on Verizon which is no slouch either, but the guaranteed updates on the Nexus 5 are very appealing to me.

do it. i had verizon. but just the bare minimum. 2 gb of data. 450 minutes and unlimited texts. i was paying 90 a month and thats with a 22% discount. with tmobile im at 85 a month with unlimited texts and minutes. 2.5 gb of data with gets throttled down to 3g when i go over it
and thats not even counting my 15% discount i get from my job. verizon has good coverage but the money was just too much. and i didnt even have a crazy plan. since you tether you should be good
Sounds as if you have the answer. You're testing a T-mobile line and can do a direct comparison. I moved from a Verizon unlimited plan to the T-Mobile unlimited everything plan and have been happy with it. LTE coverage has been good where I live. The only difference I've seen so far is T-mobile generally has EDGE or GPRS when traveling highways outside of populated areas where Verizon might have LTE on the highways.

It will be gone soon just hold on, atleast its better than Sprint
I did the same. I never had any complaints about Verizon service and loved the unlimited data but even with a 25% discount it was still expensive. I was also tired of their strict device polices. I always had to make sure the next phone I got was hackable before purchasing just so I could run a current version of android. The fact that I'd also have to pay full price for each new phone just to keep unlimited sealed the deal. If I'm going to pay full then it'll be for the device I really want. Not the limited, locked down devices they offer. I've been using TMO unlimited. In my area, it's fine for the most part. I have good coverage in the places I spend the most time and the data speeds are good. The only time I miss Verizon is on the rare occasion that I'm traveling or in rural areas. In those cases I may be stuck on 2G or no signal at all. Overall, it was worth the switch.

We made the switch last month from big V to T-Mobile and are glad we did. Better service faster speeds and lower price, plus the ability to use a pure Google phone without any carrier bs. it was pure win for my wife and I.

I guess the thing that worries me is the coverage. I've been carrying around both phones for a week now and I've been doing speed tests almost everywhere I go. The result is Verizon consistently has higher speeds (for me pegging out at about 57mbs). Now I don't know if that really translates into Verizon being "better". Do I really need all of that speed if all I'm doing is streaming netflix or youtube and tethering? Or is that speed only relevant if I'm downloading things?
Thank you all for the input you've given so far.
I made the same switch yesterday and couldn't be happier. Bought two nexus and am glad I did. Best part is we bought them flat out. Just have to pay 80 and taxes and fees. service is excellent and call quality is superb. I don't mind staying with T-Mobile for a little bit but plan on switching to Aio because it's cheaper and more data per month.
