[Q] Stock Kernel - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for the noob questoin, I've searched and cant find it anywhere. Could someone please point me in the direction for the stock kernel? I'm rooted and on 8.5.5.13 with blades kernel. I am trying to update to .18 with CWM but it fails becaues I dont have completly stock firmware.
Thanks

You can get the stock kernel from the asus website. It's packaged up in the 8.6.5.13 rom in the blob.LNX file. Flashing it might be a little tricky. I think the easiest would be to apply the stock rom, then update, then re-root. You won't lose data.
If you have cwm, the update might fail unless you mount the staging partition. Roach's version of cwm might do this for you.
You can also flash the update through adb.

Worked great thanks

[Q] Rooted 8.2.3.9 to 8.2.3.13?

I just rooted (New Method) my TF version 8.2.3.9 and was wondering if there is a way to get 8.2.3.13 update installed manually without flashing a custom rom? Also is there a way to fix the rear camera without loading a custom rom as well?
Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA
Why, do you just like a challenge? in order to root.. you need to modify the system partition, adding su.. so you're running a custom rom anyways..
Prime 1.3 is just like stock... except it has a tweaks that are beneficial.. There really isn't anything truly custom that people can do with honeycomb until the source is released. which may or may not remain Google's dirty little secret.
You can use 'dd' to rewrite boot and system partitions. You just need to find a .13 blob, split it using blob tools and rewrite the partitions from recovery/adb. In worst case you will rewrite bootloader or recovery and brick your device. The hard part is to find the blob as I think the update was incremental.

I did the same, as I want to stay on stock too. To keep root extract the blob mentioned above with the blobunpack tool mentioned somewhere here. Then dd blob.APP to /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 and after that install the ZIP mentioned on
http://android.modaco.com/content/a...pr-how-to-root-your-asus-eee-pad-transformer/
to get the root binary/app back.
This way you have a clean rooted ASUS stock .13 . I couldn't resist to install an overclocked kernel though afterwards

Not the challenge really but laziness to reinstall all my games and apps. I installed about 50 games/apps with about 4 games that is larger than 200mbs.
[Q]. What happens to the paid apps when I flash a custom rom? Can I redownload them later for free from Android Market? Is there a limit on how many times I can download them?

[Q] Is is Possible to Downgrade from 3.2?

I read some posts about how to downgrade the transformer's firmware, but these were all pretty old and when I followed these steps they didn't work. I was wondering if it is still possible to downgrade from 3.2 to 3.1 build 8.4.4.11.
Thanks
one way would be to follow eepad unroot thread to go back to stock 8.4.4.5 and do microSD card update to stock 8.4.4.11
Which recovery do you have?
There is an update for 8.4.4.11 on the ASUS website. This is NOT the OTA udpate. This is a zipped blob that you can flash from the stock recovery. If you are rooted with CWM, I think it might flash through the staging partition.

I have the stock recovery.
I think you can download the 84411 update from the ASUS website and flash it with the stock recovery.
It is not the OTA, but a full system that will over-write your system files. I think you unzip the file and copy the whole ASUS folder to your SD card. Insert your SD card and it will recognize and prompt you for the update. To be clear, you should have something like /ASUS/Update/US_eeepad....8.4.4.11.zip on your sdcard. It will recognize it when it is inserted.
Double check this and flash at your own peril.... it might not let you downgrade, in which case, there are 2 unroot guides in the dev section.
i want to do this, is the SD card 100% needed? i dont have one right now
Sorta- the sdcard would make it easy, but I think you could extract the pieces and flash them via nvflash.
If you are rooted, you can "flash" them via adb by copying the blob onto the staging partition.
why downgrade? it not needed to root or anything, so am i missing someting?
Have you tried nvflash? That seems to be the best way, but be sure to backup data, I got titanium backup and coped the data to my sdcard
Sent from my revolver!
since few weeks ago my TF its been having problem of deep sleeping and will turn on whenever he wants or when battery has 0% but my friend TF which is stock and bought from the same place and time i did still has 3.1 8.4.4.5.2 build is just fine so i wanted to try downgrading
You might also consider reflashing the ROM you are using now. I did notice some odd SOD issues from a bad flash. I had other issues as well- the screen would dim if I tried to follow a link in an email. I forget the actual cause, but it was fixed when I reflashed the right parts back in.
sorry im kinda newb about this.... how do i know what kind of ROM im using and how do i reflash it?

There is no exact method of knowing, but you can looking in settings/about tablet and look at the kernel version and build number. Then cross reference them with this thread. You might have a custom rom, in which case it might have the name in the build number.
You might have a bad flash. You could try charging the batttery completely (overnight) and then reflashing. If you are having issues, it might be easier to flash a custom ROM such as Prime 1.9.

Be sure to back up any important data since nvflash will erase everything.

[UPDATE][WW] CWM Rooted Update to STOCK 8.6.5.7 from STOCK 8.4.4.11 WW only

Here's a stock rooted clockworkmod update for 8.4.4.11 WW users who want to upgrade to HC3.2 8.6.5.7
8.6.5.7_FOTA_WW_root_rec
MD5: 74522fb41d4a61c518814532a4d04332
I've included CWM recovery packaged with the new recovery kernel so there should be no issues getting into CWM after updating like there was with my US update.
This is not for users of custom roms. STOCK only.
Also, any changes you have made to the system folder will likely cause this to fail so you may need to edit the updater-script file to suit your needs.
Can this do pure root only for 3.2ww??
There are two pre-reqs:
1. You have to be running 8.4.4.11 WW
2. You need to have CWM recovery
Meet these criteria and this is for you.
Can't get it, login and password needed.
Also anyone know how to kill the Asus updates? My rooted 3.1 stock is asking me to update!!!
Oops, Link fixed.
After installing this just attempt the update, it will boot you into recovery and fail, then the popup is gone.
Thanks, updated fine, and the attempted update cleared the update. (Had to long-press Off to turn the tablet off after the failed update).
Is there a way to remove/disable the Asus update checker in stock rooted roms, so I don't have to do that again?
Sure, just use a file manager to rename Dmclient.apk in /system/app
Noob question...
what will happen if from prime 1.6 i flash stock 3.2?
i want to go to stock for this period.

I'm guessing it won't work. You will have to flash a full rooted stock ROM via clockworkmod, then the incremental update(s) all the way to 8.4.4.11 (WW), then this...
Each of these seem to be a patch over the previous, and all the files are CRC checked, if any of them fail to match, the update won't proceed.
Since the update, i'am unable to play a HD videos .... :-(
Allthe time i hear bad remarks and comments for 3.2
what do you guys believe?
to upgrade or not?
im on prime 1.6 still but no problem with anything.
I am at pure rooted Stock WW 8.4.4.5 ROM. How can I get the Stock 8.6.5.7 the easiest way?
Thanks a lot

Let me know how this goes if you try it out. I'm on Prime 1.6 as well
how can i get back to stock from Prime 1.7 Beta??
Sweet thing!
Just to confirm before I blow up my tablet, I'm running:
HMJ37.WW_epad-8.4.4.11-20110711 (rooted with CWM, of course)
This works, right?
Also, no mods, but I did copy the tun.ko driver to the /system/lib/modules directory. From what I've read, this won't stop the update, will it?
Thanks
anyone?

Yep, will work no problem.
Could somebody make a thread & upload 3.2 ww stock, no root? OTA failed and refuses to appear again... would be much appreaciated.
The ASUS update zip format would be perfect.
@[email protected], did you found an easy solution? I tried to flash the WW 3.2, but the patch checks are failing. But I also realsized, that I'm on DE_8.4.4.11 and not on WW.
@Roach2010, any chance that you build a CWM flashable 3.2 update coming from DE_8.4.4.11 ?
Cheers,
Matthias
So I can't flash this if I am on 8.4.4.5?

[Q]how can i install original firmware?

I've installed prime rom on my tablet, but now I need to go back to the original hc 3.2.1
what can I do?
Try this. It worked for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154947
but now i've hc 3.2.1 not 3.1 >_< and i've an EUR version,not US
I think you have a few options:
- find a flashable zip that installs the stock firmware
- make a flashable zip yourself to install the stock firmware
- use nvflash if you have a low enough serial number
- flash the stock firmware using the staging partition
- there might be a way to use asus-backup, but I haven't tinkered with that.
The first two options usually require the command line and blob tools, although some of the rom cooking tools might work. You could probably mod one of the asus stock roms to flash via recovery.
The nvflash option requires the blob tools and nvflash.
The staging partition option can be done via terminal, but can also screw things up quickly. You'll also lose recovery unless you use the blob tools.
You'll have to mod the stock firmware to be pre-rooted if you want to keep root, which will require slightly more advanced android-fu.
All of these options would start with the EU/WW asus stock firmware. You'll just be modding it to install to your liking. My choice would be a DIY flashable zip or the staging partition, but that is just me.
Do you want to keep root or recovery or just go bone stock? Does nvflash work?
so many questions lol. But that just means alot go look up first. This sounds cool. Thank you.
Why go with nv flash? I only ask because ive always used cwm. But iguess i was rooted too.
Lets say i wanted to go stock on the rom but rooted? With CWM, superuser, maybe an oc kernel.
Or just stick with Prime!
Thanks.
I'm not sure there are any clear advantages to nvflash- it's easier to load the stock firmware with nvflash, but you can also load custom roms/recoveries too, but they have to be converted for nvflash. nvflash isn't available to all TFs because of the SBK issue. We only know the SBK for the low serial numbers, which allows us to use nvflash.
Any of the first four methods can be used to flash a rooted stock rom with oc kernel and cwm. I don't know anything about asus-backup.

Question about CWM before ICS update

I just rooted my TF101 using ViperMod but now I'm not sure whether I should install CWM recovery or not if I want to install further OTAs. I have read some threads but couldn't come up with a clear answer. I read somewhere that only stock recovery can receive OTA updates but also read that CWM can receive them too. If I can't install CWM then what ROMs can I install with stock recovery? What's the best way to go if I want to be ready for the ICS? Thanks!!

Technically you'll still receive the OTA update you just can't apply it if you have CWM or a custom ROM installed.
You can't install custom ROM without CWM (if you have an older SBK tablet you can use NVFlash with a compatible ROM).
So I shouldn't install cwm until the ICS drops right?

If you want to update to ICS via OTA don't instal CWM.
As you have been told, you will get the OTA message but the update will fail.
So you have two choices (or three):
* Keep stock recovery and update to ICS when the OTA update is available
* Install CWM and update to ICS as soon as a DEV publishes an ICS ROM
* Install CWM and remove it as soon as you know the OTA is due (pretty lame, but you could do it).
Regards.

Thanks, I think I'll just wait for the OTA as I want to update as soon as ICS drops in.

I have a question about removing CWR. Actually 2.
1. Can't we just uninstall and wipe data with Titanium since it was installed as an .apk- from Gnufabio? (pretty sure this won't work but thought I would throw it out there anyways). Where is the recovery located on a tablet (what folders) Same as in phones?
2. Can we just flash the stock recovery by itself and not reset back to .13 or younger? If I am running stock ROM, it seems that I should be able to just reflash the stock recovery and replace it w/o changing the ROM or factory reset.
I have no problem doing it the long way but if it doesn't need to be done and we can replace the CWR with stock and not tamper with the ROM, it seems logical.
Clearly I just got the tab recently and have been reading and reading but they seem so much different than the way phones work. I am very comfortable flashing ROMs/Kernels/Mods on phones, but just a little intimidated with the tablet (for now).

1- The RecoveryInstaller app only help to flash the recovery image so no you can just delete it.
2- You can flash a stock recovery image via CWM. You can get a repacked version here.

I figured that would be the case with the executable part of the apk.
I read that thread but wasn't sure if only the stock recovery by itself could be flashed w/o the prepacked ROM.
