Hey everybody, I made a mistake and toasted the Social Networking application out of my system/app by mistake LOL! Could somebody please share theirs? Thanks all!
Hope this is the right one...
http://db.tt/KXrjRyzj
if those aren't it, i just uploaded the system/app folder
Interesting it did not work, moved the files into system/app with root explorer and setup permissions. Would not install or open, I guess I shall try to download that entire package and try that one?
Try rebooting after you get the missing apps back where you need them and hopefully you will get it squared away. Done the same thing on my OG ATRIX and learned really quick that blur ties into a lot of the operating system. Made me a quick believer n Bloat Freezer Funny what one missing app will do.
Restart did not do it either. I just want to make sure all my apps are when an update rolls around

i think it has something to do with an odex. you may have to factory reset.
Consider it done... brb gonna reset

Got pissed off at the device, Did the factory reset, and then the screen wouldn't come back on after turning off. Showed it to best buy and they gave me another. If it happens again I'm gonna keep returning it until.....?

Short answer, yes.
Long answer, yes but it's probably not a good idea to do so.

A lot of things rely on then to function. Freezing isn't the same; I freeze Wifi Calling with no issues but when I try to uninstall it I get constant force closes every second until I do a battery pull, and that's on a bit of propriety software! I sincerely doubt letting Messaging or the like exist is hurting you enough to warrant risking potently annoying problems

I just hate having things installed I don't use, like rom manager and dev tools. Never use either.

Those apps are tied to android system dunno why it wont give fc on freeze since its almost the same as uninstalling them. But ya if you did delete those you would get tons of fc on startup and be forced to do a battery pull and reflash rom or backup.

Because you also need to delete the corresponding .so file in the lib folder.

If you are on a stock rom and delete system apps you can never install any future OTA updates. The updates check all system files first and make sure they are unchanged. If you freeze apps you just defrost them before installing an OTA. If you deleted them then no chance of OTA update, period. If you are not on a stock rom then it doesn't matter. You might wind up with a continuous force close issue that requires reflashing the rom.

I got rid of stock browser and tmobile stuff off of my phone and didn't receive FC's.
The downside ro this is if you remove the browser or anything when you do a hard reset it won't be there so you have to rely on a back up and be careful what you unistall.
I learned that the hard way when i first started with android. I unistalled swype since i use SwiftKey but did a hard reset to clear everything out and well i couldn't log in to my google account at the beginning because there was no virtual keyboard to use.

Does anyone know where i can download the samsung infuse stock music app?
i just flashed to catyrom which replaced the stock one with miui music app i think, however i like the stock music app better.-i backed it up with titanium backup however its the only app that isnt showing up on my restore app list thing in TB.
I know i can just flash a different rom that has the stock music app, but i like catyrom and dont want to flash...at least for a few days lol-ive been flashing new roms everyday since last friday (the day i rooted)

Try grabbing it from Mikey's S7 website HERE
Just check "Samsung Music Player" and then "build package." Place in system/app then change permissions if a simple install doesn't work. Good luck!

Thanks dman for making it! i think it is my favorite...but, unfortunately my school took away my phone yesterday, the day after i flashed your rom, and im on day 2 of no phone because my parents don't get off earl enough to pick it up. as soon as i get it back i think im gonna flash your ICS edition rom on it
P.S. my phone wasn't even on when they took it, it was turned off and i was moving it out of my jacket into my jeans pocket...i know pretty dumb reason to get it taken away, i guess my teacher was jealous of it since hes an iPhone user XP
I am running stock 2.3.6 and it is rooted. I am wanting to change the icons for some of the stock apps. I have done this plenty of times before with a couple of my other phones and i know how to do this. I am not used to Motorola software and i am having a hell of a time locating where these icons are stored at. I'm wanting to change the Text Messaging app icon and the Email app icon. Usually they are in the system/app with the app itself. I have dug around in this location and can't seem to come up with anything. If someone could give me a location of these two icons i would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you very much. When i first started digging for the icons i didn't realize how much Motorola made their software different than the other manufacturers. I really appreciate it, thanks again.

I tried to change the browser icon and ended up with the apk in the system but missing from the home launcher and couldn't get it to show up at all so i had to flash back to 2.3.5 and start over. That's what i get for not installing bootstrap and making a backup. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of the oversized Google search bar so i can just have a normal one.

Using that app is for guys like me who have no intention of learning the guts of Android, but you seem like a guy who wants to learn that stuff so it makes sense you'd go about it the way you did. Glad it worked for you though, it's a pretty nifty app that can be used for more than just changing icons too, def a must have for any Android user IMO.
I like to actually do personal theming with roms by actually tearing a rom apart on my computer and changing things. I really don't like just getting things off of the market to do theming. It's a little too easy . Since we are limited with the a2 as far as roms go i haven't really got into it as much as i did with my infuse or my captivate. Once i start learning more about motorolas software ill get back into it. Thanks again for your help, that app is pretty good.

I have another question regarding the apk itself this time. I am a big swype person and I have a big collection of swype apks that are themed. I am wanting to get rid of any traces of Swype from being a system apk, that way i can install any of the swype apks that i store on my sd card without any hassle. Now, i have uninstalled the stock swype, i got rid of the com.swype file that is in the data/data folder. The phone still sees it as a system apk. Does anyone know where there might be a file or a text telling the phone that it is a system apk?

Well I dont know if it was an app i downloaded or what because it did not start happening dirrectly after a download or installation but my phone about every week adds what appear to be app shortcuts to my desktop (launcher thing). one is titled Search and has a picture of the android guy. The other is always some game. These appear to be just links. Also in my notification bar, if i pull it down, there is an add there too. "Meet hot singles" was this week. Is there any app or method to detect which app is doing this? I already downloaded Adfree and Airblocker hoping that it would deny this suspicious activity.
You may need an app called AirPush detector. I would start there. Otherwise, retrace your steps and uninstall whatever you have only had on the phone for a little while
Or just wipe data and start fresh. Get rid of the junk you never use while your at it.
Or there's that
Well i have not tried the airpush detector and it is the kind of thing i wanted , i am considering wiping data soon too, i was thinking of doing that. I end up downloading so many programs and I'm like, I will so use this. Then i never use it.

Yeah >.<, I have been very busy and haven't read the replies yet even. I was planning on just factory resetting after backing up the apks' with titanium backup. I was then going to install the apps as I need them to get rid of ones i don't use anymore and also find out which one is doing all the adds. I have been removing adds i clearly done use first and that is what I have been doing. But I'm pretty busy around this time of the year >.< Up until December.

here is a step by step guide for removing carrier IQ, you will need root
download android tuner play store link
click on application manager
click / pivot to apps tab
click the button on the bottom that says user and it will change to system
longpress on android system
click open
click details
pivot to all the tabs and uncheck anything with carrier iq in it
uninstall (MAKE A BACKUP) LADDM.apk (it may be in system or user, check both)
remove lib files "libiq_client.so" and "libiq_service.so" from /system/lib (use a file explorer like root explorer with rw permissions)
install a ciq checker (voodoo's is good) and see if anything is left
presto!
credit to sn707 for making the original post, i just added the step by step for people new to removing ciq
Thanks for this. I got all the same info from a couple different sources... good to see it all in one place.
Nice! funny I never saw the Att specific forum. I spent a long while figuring this out so I would not mind a little credit but im glad the info is out there

the biggest benefit i had from removing it is stopping the useless processes from running and eating my battery life away. personally i don't really care about the data collection (that much) but the wakelock induced by it was driving me crazy.
it being so easy to remove (and to revert if you want to for warranty or ota purposes, so long as you back up whatever you remove) is also a pretty good reason to get rid of the spyware.
nice make sense. thats why my Android under battery keeps being like 5-6 hrs keep awake. nice!

I wish I would've seen that guide earlier. I have a G2 and removed the 2 /system/lib files first and I'm getting the nagging "diagandroid.iqd has stopped working" message.
Is there anything I can do now to gain access to my phone?
Thank you worked perfect

Tried to do this and am now stuck in infinite boot loop.
In android tuner:
unchecked 4 references in Activ
unchecked 2 references in Receivers
unchecked 1 reference in services
In titanium backup:
Froze LADDM.apk
Rebooted, stuck in boot loop. Also doesn't look like the 855 methodology for recovering from boot loop works on the 850. Any ideas how to recover from this, or am I hosed?

You have to flash back to stock. I did the sane thing last week. There are files and instructions in either this thread or the generic g3 thread for what you need to do. It was an easy fix.

Flashing back to stock was the solution I resorted to. I'm back up and running now which is a relief. My question is why does this seem to happen in some cases and not for others when taking the exact steps outlined in the OP?

If you took the exact steps as in the op... I'm not sure. When I had your problem I had just gone in and disable those two files, rather than all of the files.
Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk
Went through the steps again and no bootloop this time. I am going to lean towards user error the first time, though I usually check things twice.
I actually managed to get everything running without flashing. Mind that I do have a G2, but CarrierIQ works very similarly on both the G2 and G3 as far as files/services are concerned. My problem was that I deleted the 2 files before disabling the apps/services themselves.
With a good bit of time and finger tapping, I was able to get the Disable Service app installed and was able to disable the CarrierIQ services. That removed the looping dialog box.
This might not work for everyone, especially on the G3, but it's worth considering if you deleted the files and rebooted without disabling the services and don't want to reflash.
Worked flawlessly for me. Thanks
