[Q] Stuck at recovery mode. - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I recently got a 4g in replacement for free for my vibrant from tmobile, so I hacked it as soon as I could get the chance, I was running a GB rom and it wasn't running as smooth as I liked so I attempted to go back to stock via hemdall, couldn't get it to work since I never used it before, I tried reading the forum but I just couldn't figure it out, so I tried to odin, my phone freaked out and for about 30 minutes just was a black screen, I was able to get to recovery mode after l several attempts..I am now in recovery and only have to option to reboot, re install, delete all user data, delete all cache, I have tried every trick in the forum to get to download mode, everything I do just goes straight back to recovery, I tried to rename a stock rom to update.zip and flash that through the re install packages and it says signature verification failed..What the heck do I do to get my phone either to odin, and if I do what do I do after odin, I thought I knew but apparently not, secondly if I can get to odin what is my best bet on fixing it? Thanks all who shall help!

There are tons of threads in the Dev section about getting back to stock. With way... you need to get into download mode.

AdamOutler posted a one click back to stock using hemdall in the dev section.

Go to www.android.com, download the software development kit (SDK), install it, only install the 'tools' when it prompts you for what to install.
Once that is done open a command prompt, cd to the "platform-tools" directory where the SDK installed, and issue this command:
adb reboot download

Already did, and just right back to recovery mode..

I'm sure you've tried this, but I have to ask - what happens when you use the options you have in recovery mode?

It just goes back to recovery..

When you tried using adb to reboot it into download mode, did your computer actually recognize the phone? If so, does ODIN see the phone when you plug it in?

yes and ODIN does as well, but it doesn't doing anything but say setting up connection.

Ok, so ODIN sees it. That's a plus I think. When ODIN sees the phone, what exactly does it show in the "Message" window in the bottom left?
I'm just wondering if it's able to actually flash anything. If it can, we can probably get you fixed.

setup connection

Hmm, I know you said you tried everything, but just to verify, have you removed the battery, held vol up & down, plugged in USB then put the battery back in while still holding the vol keys down?
What about the 1-click Heimdal method? I think that's listed in the dev section.

Can you tell us what version of ODIN, what ROM you were on, & what you were trying to flash?
I was trying to install a gb rom from stock I'm rooted I first tried rom manager and downloaded rom called bsgs4gbuild2 installed it then my screen was jacked up then I tried Odin and a rom called t959vuvkf2 and Odin fail at the bottom of Odin in the info box it say successful 0 fail 0 It wont do anything then I pull battery it goes to recovery I wipe everything restart and it keep booting back to recovery I need help badly

Stay away from rom manager and the kf 2.3.3 leaks. Both are bad news. Put your phone into download mode and Odin one of the 2.3.5 leaks.

That's what version of ODIN I'm using, too. It almost sounds like you were on a voodoo enabled file system and didn't disable voodoo before flashing a non-voodoo ROM. I had a similar problem & had issues.
If you were going from Froyo to GB, I would suggest installing KG4 ((http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183413) as I *think* it was the first GB ROM to come with the proper boot loaders. After that, you should be able to flash other GB ROMs.
Try getting into download mode by removing the battery, plugging the USB cable in, holding down both VOL UP & VOL DOWN at the same time, then put the battery back in. That should get you there.

Yeah, download the Android development kit from Android.com. Make sure your phone is on & plugged in via USB & that you have the USB drivers installed. Once installed, open a command prompt & CD to the "platform-tools" directory where the dev kit indtalled. then type "adb reboot download" & the phone should reboot into download mode.
As I recall, download mode via the vol up & down gets fixed once you have the GB boot loaders installed.

Not sure. What you may want to do is a "Factory data reset". Go into the phone settings, Privacy, & hit factory data reset. Keep in mind, though, that you will lose your text messages, phone contacts, and other settings for the phone (like display settings, etc). If your phone contacts are synched with T-Mobile then they should come back onto the phone all on their own once it syncs.
I had to do that a few times to get my phone acting right after flashing a new ROM.
Also, go into Settings, About Phone, and see what the Firmware Version, Baseband Version, Kernel Version, & Build Number say & let us know.

My phone wont even connect to Keis Air, i tried connecting my phone while its in download mode and when its stuck in the rethink possible screen. Still wont connect to Keis Air.
They way I was able to fix mine was to first open Kies then select initialize firmware and connect phone to USB port in back of PC. Follow the prompts they will ask for model number and serial number it is located under battery. Select OK. Once firmware is finished Downloading it will prompt you to accept, disconnect phone from PC and then place phone in DL mode by removing battery reinsert battery press volume +- and then volume + to continue once you do that then connect phone to PC via USB and follow screen prompt on PC. It took me about one hour for mine to finally return to stock. I'm going from memory because I'm not sitting in front of computer at this time. Maybe someone with more knowledge than I can help. Good luck.

Bricked phone CM9??

Got a little question, any help would be verrry appreciated, uh I flashed cm9 on my infuse 4g from a red cwm and when I rebooted it got stuck on the samsung boot like it said it does, I battery pulled n retried it but it didnt boot up, so I booted into cwm recov. and it was all messed up, like a scrambled TV channel... I can't see anything, I tried to restore a backup just like from memory but it didnt work, I'm not sure which cwm version is used on cm9, but then I try to put it into odin mode and it doesnt go, can't connect to the cpu, doesnt go into odin mode, jus goes str8 to samsung screen and freezes. Anyone got any ideas? The scrambled cwm, from what I can make out, looks like its the one with the grey background... ne1 kno if thats the recovery cm9 comes with? Maybe I could restore my backup if I knew exactly how many times to press the volume up & down rockers and all that... idk. Again, any input'd b much appreciated

Don't remember exactly and don't have a windows computer in front of me
But, plug your phone as if you were going to download mode
Don't unplug it even if it doesn't go to DL mode
Go to "my computer"
I think you go to system properties
There should be a thing under system properties for hardware, drivers or it might be advanced...don't really remember
Locate the infuse under usb ...it will probably be gadget serial, or something like that...to ease the process disconnect all other USB that way only your phone shows up
Double click it that should open up a window of the driver settings
Uninstall the drivers
Unplug your phone, go to the ISET page which is sticked in the dev section and download the infuse drivers (don't use kies...)
Its not necessary but i like to reboot after installing new drivers
Now try to connect to download mode
Good luck, I'll try and clarify those steps later

[Q] Bricked... hard or soft?

I have an SGS4g
I had Team Whiskeys Bionix Frost updated for/with voodoo and it worked fine for quite some time... I foolheartedly decided it was time for something new...
I followed the instructions perfectly for WhiteHawkx Valhalla when I was at the restart boot-loader section my phone turned into rainbow crack,
but the rom loaded and my phone worked I was however unable to get into recovery from this point forward.
I decided that not being able to get into recovery was unacceptable so I decided to use Odin to load up the old tried an true jump off point the deodexed KD1 I keep with Odin in a folder on my PC for just such an occasion, after attempting this my phone didn't restart on it's own like it was supposed to... (I should have known to stop right there while I was still in DL mode.)
When I restarted my phone manually my phone stopped showing the rainbow crack and showed the normal splash screen (I was foolishly optimistic) my phone is now stuck at the t mobile splash screen and I haven't been able to get it back into DL mode...
Please tell me there is something I can do other than shop for a new phone.

I have been unable to get into recovery so far...
I have tried all of the alternate methods except ADB mode which I don't think i can because the phone wont go past the galaxy S 4g exclusively from t mobile splash screen.
if there is a trick for the ADB method please let me know cause if something is going to work at this point i think that's it.
Well there is hope, your phone is still turning on.
You could see if abd recognizes your phone if you have it. (usually the first things I do is make sure debugging is on when I change things over)
If you know someone with a jig that would be the easiest way but it is 1am.
I'm at work so I'm not in front of my computer.

I dont know anyone with a Jig, I always turn debug mode on.
I'll try ADB if that doesn't work I'll order/make a jig.
I had one that I had to spam the adb command at for awhile before it took..

Like many people have said, this phone is very tough to brick. I have brought it back from many of soft bricks before. First thing first are you sure it is a SGH-T959V ?
Next did you install the proper USB drivers for the phone?
Can you get into Download mode by having your phone off, holding down both volume buttons and plugging it in to the USB?

Yes its a sgs4g I can't get to download mode or recovery....I didn't know it was hard to brick and idk how it happened I was flashing like I normally did with my sgs4g didn't boot and I followed the instructions on how to recover from a soft brick and didn't work

You can't get into download mode? Invest in a USB jig.
Also I think this guy was in the same boat a while ago. Somebody suggested holding home button or something like that. Check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910774

and it also lets me flash bootloaders if i want but gives me a warning first but i haven't said yes to that....should i?
Well.. no. Not if it's not flashing right to begin with. Try rebooting the pc first and see if that helps. It should flash and reboot your phone, and then you can flash bootloaders.

it went from download mode to this
and it cant connect to kies now
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in Kies & try again
Kies and heimdall do not play well together. Stick with heimdall. All you need to get back to stock and root is here. What you should do is uninstall whatever drivers you have and start over from scratch.
