Hello I recently installed mini rom on my device from mini.us
And I'm getting a very slow internet connection, even after redefining the apn - on the privious stock rom I had way better connection
Now when I try to set it on 3g from the settings menu I get no connection at all... pleas help I don't want to switch back to stock!!
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
u may hv to confirm if u have a strong 3G signal for the network u r using in that area
cheers
When I change back to stock rom I have a very good and fast 3g but with this miui rom it's slow like you wouldnt belive!
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Just to be sure, are you sure it's Mini and not Miui? Because I don't recall there being a Mini ROM for Desire S.
Stupid keboard autocompete ofcourse I ment miui!
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
If you say your signal was good before installing miui then you should probably email the devs and report the issue. It might be something faulty in the rom.

I recently upgraded my phone to the new ICS software, I flashed the Virtuous Inquisition 2.1.0 and then 3.0.0 they both worked fantastically but when I turned my phone on after being on standby it would have a data connection but it wouldn't communicate with anything.
So getting fed up with that I flashed the update given by InsertCoin ICS and then flashed the ROM.
It is now doing the same thing again?
It's very finicky as to when it works and when it won't. But when it works it works well?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

same problem, it works, but not well, it used to go from 4g or H to 2g, now it goes to 3g and hangs. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Same here. Data seems really buggy on all the ics builds I have used for my tmo sensation. Not sure if it is firmware or Rom problems.

+1 I think I've had this problem with every android phone I ever had. I wish there was an option to just leave the data on at all times like home internet. I hate that it has to search for signal and connect every time I click something because it always hangs. Yea 4G is fast but if it has to dial up the internet every time I use it whats the point? The only fix I know for hanging internet is to toggle airplane mode. Which is some BS in IMHO.
Is there a way to disable 3g so it only bounces 4g to 2g?

I flashed the virtuous firmware update and formatted all partitions except for the SD card, and its been working for the last week very consistantly.
To my knowledge there is no way to turn on and off searching for 3g and only switch between 4g and 2g. Because I believe Tmobile's. 4g is just faster 3g? Idk.

Could you link to that update? One after 1/22?
Ok, after asking on various Rom threads to no avail I'm making a topic about it seeing as I'm not alone on this one...
I seem to have lost all cellular data. When I turn on mobile data I keep getting ' connection failed due to incorrect apn settings'
I have flashed different roms, re flashed current viper Rom, factory reset, full wiped, reset apn to default settings, even got a new sim from my service provider. My apn settings are correct, as have been confirmed by my service provider, I've updated radio and firmware...and still no mobile data.
Does anyone have the faintest idea what's going on?
Thanks guys.

Hi,

Just tried your suggestion malybru, unfortunately it hasn't made any difference

I'm running viper too and when I upgraded to recommended radio this happened to me. I lost all data connection ! To restore my data I used one of the five(I believe it's 5) generic ics radio and matching ril. I got lucky first one I tried worked for me! I'm not exactly sure of your situation but it sounds very similar to what happened to me... You might want to try the generic ics radio with matching ril.it restored my data right away. You will have to do some searching to find it. But it's there. This just happened to me last week. I really hope this helps you! It worked for me... Best of luck.

Realsis, I have flashed all the available radio and ril combinations and still no luck. I have full signal and can make and receive calls no problem, sms too, just no data :what:

this problem seems similar to the problem i faced recently ..i would have complete signal ..but no data
in my case ..if i change the network mode to GSM only ..i used to get Edge
the thing which caused this problem in my case is... loose sim ..yes the sim is loose ..and i kept a paper on top of sim to make it fit tight ...and voila problem solved ...just try this ..it might work
:fingers-crossed:
also check in phone testing that you are st to WCDMA preferred
from key pad *#*#4636#*#* phone settings - look for the only drop down box - hit it choose WCMDA preffered then home
I even lock on wdcma only by pressing *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information press your current channel and another menu will come up, choose your desired channel from there then press refresh. My device kept going to edge sand it drove me crazy so I locked on wdcma only
And had no problem ever since. I now stay on H. I'm sure it depends on your area also but I've never lost signal doing it that way.

Tried all the above, still no data. Thanks for the suggestions so far guys

I'm still trying to figure out this problem, no luck still..I would appreciate it if ideas to help are given, as it seems I'm not alone on this lol

WiFi Calling doesn't exist on any of the custom ROMs unless it's based off of a T-Mobile ROM. Did they change the way WiFi Calling works?
What does it take port it over?
All I'm looking for is a Vanilla ICS ROM (AOSP, CM9, something like that) with WiFi Calling.

The wifi calling is built into the framework its not just an apk like it was before

Does it run off of drivers or something? Can't we port it over from another device (that has WiFi calling) running AOSP?
Sorry for the noobiness.

You need to enable it in the settings:
Settings > More > WiFi Calling
It allows you to substitute your actual cell signal for WiFi. For instance, if you're in a dead zone, and you can't get any service, turn on WiFi Calling and you'll be able to make calls and receive texts!
It's an absolute necessity for me.
I used the sim card that came with the phone, and whenever I try using wifi calling, it says that my sim is not compatible and to contact tmobile to get a proper compatible sim.
Have you tried calling T-Mobile about it?

What ROM are you using? If you're not running a T-Mobile ROM (for now), you won't have this feature.
You also need to have T-Mobile.

I'm using leedroid Rom I am on t mobile is it only available on T-Mobile not available on o2? And does that mean I don't have the feature?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Leedroid doesn't support it. It's only for T-Mobile customers.
Does anyone know what from the framework is needed to port it?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
Nah, I'm too lazy. On my Sensation, the feature wasn't so great. People couldn't understand what I was saying, so I figured it must still suck on this phone.
Every report of wifi calling, even in stock, said it sucked. It's built into the framework of TMOUS ROMs and there's little incentive to try and port it into others. Try Skype.

The feature is great on this device (according to my experience with it). I'm able to learn to understand whatever you have to teach me / I can help you with if you're willing to help port it.
What do you need help with?

It's not a "port". You can't just take the sense framework and tweak some configuration file or platform variable and have it work. Wifi calling is part of Sense now... No Sense, no Wifi calling, just like the Sense clock or any other widget.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Someone on the Trickdroid thread had the idea of taking the Sense framework and incorporating it into an .apk. Is that possible?
Why not just run a de-sensed Trickdroid with Nova or Apex launcher? Mostly the same experience as AOSP if you don't notice the performance hit.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
I could do the same thing with Axiom S-Less (which has WiFi calling built in and is updated) but I want the full AOSP experience.
It might be mental, but I've always had a smoother experience with full AOSP versus de-Sensed ROMs. I'm speaking from experience with my T-Mo G2 days.
So if I use WiFi calling will it still use my mins?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Yes it will. It's good for situations where you have no cell reception.

hey there I/'m living in St. Kitts in the Caribbean.
LIME the network provider upgraded from EDGE to 4g on Friday, but I realise since then my phone is only showing H (3G) and not H+(4G).
i am wondering if this has anything to do with the rom i'm currently running (trickdroid) or not?
I was in the city centre friday night where they had the launch and pretty close to the cell tower so I know distance isn't the issue
Thanks for the help in advance
Most roms don't display the +. Its purely cosmetic. Only roms I know that display it are based on the inspire 3.20 version.
Again its purely cosmetic and does not effect speed. Heck the phone is only capable of 14mbs Max. I would say 3.5 g Max
Thanks for the response I was just wondering. Makes sense with what you are saying. And I just realise something I tried another Rom, it wasn't even loading so had to restor this on and realised that while booting up it went from E to 3G to H. But I don't think I'm getting even 2 mb from this will take a screen shot and post to you.thx again for the response.

Depending on what ROM you're using, I've found Speedtest to be somewhat unreliable for whatever reason. For example, I'm running Sabsa Prime 7.0. When I do a test on wifi, I get 15+mbps down and around 4mbps up with 30 ping. When I run it on 4g, I get 7kbps down and 2mbps up with 150 ping. Obviously my actual 4g speeds are not 7kbps. On ARHD with the same radio the test showed 6-8mbps down and 3.5mbps up with 70 ping.
In summary, unless you feel that your real use speed is really that slow, forget what Speedtest says.
Ok cool got you.
But I can tell it's really slow as well. I will try one of those other rims cause this one iy takes a while to switch to programs etc. And I don't have a lot running in the background. The only thing I've realise though is that I've not yet learned how to bring over my settings ( WiFi and apn etc even my contacts ) when going from one Rom.to the the next.

Actually...
If you edit your build.prop, faster speeds can be obtained.
Also H+ is 4G, but its not like LTE speeds or anywhere close. It is more like a couple mbs above 3G.
Speedtest is fine. Your data icon will sometimes lie to you. No joke. It'll say H+, but in reality it is 3G. All depends on your signal strength.
- hit my thanks button if i helped you -
Thanks, how do I edit my build?

You'll need an app like "Root Explorer". Through the app you navigate to "/system" and long press the "build.prop" and edit. You may encounter an error message with something like "file is in read-only" which then you will have to change the settings to "write only" or something like that to edit which can be done in the explorer app. Once you get that far you can edit the build.prop to your liking. For settings that people have found useful search the forums.
