[Q] Newbie questions - Samsung Galaxy Fit GT 5670

So, I was following these steps to install CM 7.1.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324190
I think I got around installing the clockword recovery bcoz I got into the download mode and then selected all the options and the phone did reboot.
Now, when I transferred the zip file to the card and try to go into the recovery mode it simply won't go.
1. Tried Volume Down + Menu + Power gets into some ARM9 RAMDUMP mode
2. Tried Menu + Power gets to the Samsung screen after which it doesn't go anywhere its like hung state.
Phone details:
Andriod version: 2.2.1
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] # 1
Build number: FROYO.DDKB1
Help please.

I'm quite new at this too but i believe you should turn on the phone first then, from how you shut it down, it will give you an extended power option... you should see recovery from there... that's what you should use to load the CWM...
give it a try...

First flash any other firmware like XWKQ2 by using Odin and then follow steps for Cyanogen

hey sedhasukhdeep thanks for that, I did as you said installed XWKQ2 but now I have ran into another problem.
After I installed XWKQ2 i tried installing CyanogenMod 7.1.0 build, I think I followed the steps mentioned therein but now, my phone won't boot there is just this screen which says ANDRIOD nothing happens.
any thoughts? have i bricked?

Hello everyone,
I'm not very familiar with most of the 'terms' in this forum. So I usually get confused when I see words like:
Kernel/OC Kernel;
Flash;
Clockwork (recovery/mode);
Cyanogen Mod;
...and many of those technical words that are used in this forum.
Although, I rooted my phone and later installed CMod 7(FITDroid) on my phone [and even thinking of Overclocking now]; I merely followed instructions but don't really understand what all of that was about.
I'd appreciate it if someone will throw more light on these.

1 Flashing means to simply install a Zip file on your SD card to phone via recovery
2 Clockwork --> a custom recovery With extra options
3 Cyanogen --> a Custom Rom made by people with Lots of extra features (Google em)
4 OC kernel -- A kernel which Allows the CPU of your phone to RUN at higher speeds than the default factory's Maximum speed
To learn more about flashing and all use search you'll find some guides regarding that
Hope it helped you

[Q] Nexus S 4G won't boot past Google Screen!!

I tried rooting my phone, but when I flashed CWM my Nexus S stopped booting... it freezes on the Google screen in the intro. I can boot into Fastboot, and cwm, but I cant connect the Internal memory to the computer without it booting like it is supposed to. Does anybody know of anything I can do to fix my phone and bring it back to stock??
There are guides for returning to stock stickied in the Nexus S 4G Android Development forum.
Before you do that though, try flashing a different recovery, like the one linked to here or here.
Btw, which guide did you use? You're not the first person to have this problem, and it's really bugging me (though probably not as much as it's bugging you :-o).
Maximilian Mary: I tried to post the link, but since I'm a new member I have to wait 8 posts before I can post a URL.... :/
I will try a different recovery, but how would I flash a rom if I can connect my phone via usb mount?

I'm a little out of my depth here, but I think it's
fastboot flash system system.img.
You don't need to put the rom image on the sdcard. Just put it in the same folder as fastboot.
It was titled "How to Root Nexus S!"
And I will try to flash recovery and try that rom command, thank you )

I got the link. Thanks. I looks like you flashed a boot image that is incompatible with your phone. That guide was for the T-Mobile Nexus S. (Why they're screwing with the boot.img to begin with, I really don't understand.)
Download the attached file, and unzip it to the same folder as fastboot. The md5 sum is d4a9508f9321eb25df3383f00f571e8b. Then
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You'll probably also want to use one of the recoveries listed above to
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
, but leave system alone for now. Flash that only as a last resort.

same problem with me.
but in my case, the phone not only freeze after the google logo before boot. I tried several times to pull the battery and start the phone again, it took several times until the phone can boot normally again.
After that, my nexus s can work as usual. but it only takes 3-4 hour until it freeze/hangs or reboot automatically and show image of green robot lay down with red alert triangle...
sometimes I noticed all application force closed like gmail, gtalk, etc. (its a basic apps instead of 3rd party app)
History :
- root GB 2.37 using superoneclick
- upgrade OTA to ICS 4.04
- problem happens
- root using guide : nexusshacks.com
- unroot using guide : nexusshacks.com
- back to factory setting on GB 2.34
- upgrade OTA to ICS 4.04
- Still got that problem.....
I'm using Nexus S 4G Sprint, pls help me guys...
nexus s won't boot
I had the same problem and read elsewhere that heating the phone with a hairdryer solves the problem.
I must say, indeed it did.
I removed the battery and the SIM card, then heated up the phone (so it really feels warm) put back the battery and sim and simsalebim the phone started again. and is still working since (now already a few day's)
It seems that a component in the phone is heat sensitive, the question in my mind is when will this show again and do I need to consider buying a new phone.
But sofar it works
PS I also tried hard reset factory reset the lot, but in the end only heating up helped.
Good luck, David
I fixed this problem! but I had to wipe all user data by rooting it using nexusrootICS. It finally boots up and the phone works now... that's all I need.

[Q] Need help rooting Galaxy S 4G SGH-T959W from Wind

I have been trying to root the Samsung Galaxy S 4G from Canada's Wind Mobile. I wonder if anyone out there with Wind and this phone has any success. This phone is model SGH-T959W, which is different from the T-mobile SGH-T959V. I thought they were similar, but not really. This phone was just released in March 2012, and has the latest firmware.
Details:
Model no.: SGH-T959W
Firmwware ver.: 2.3.6
Baseband ver.: T959WUQLB6
Kernel ver.: 2.6.35.7-T959WUQLB6-CL965783
Build no.: GINGERBREAD.WUQLB6
I have successfully rooted several phones before and am good at following instructions. However, I have pretty much tried every method suggested on this Galaxy S forum with no success, including SuperOneClick, manually using ADB, Fastroot, Z4root, Samsung Kies Mini, Heimdall One-Click, etc. Some of them simply said "Failed", ADB and SuperOneClick seemed promising with progress messages for a couple minutes and then just hung forever. Kies Mini won't even recognize the phone even though it's a Samsung and I have updated all drivers.
My main goals of rooting the phone are to try to resolve the random shut-down issues that's been plaguing the Galaxy line of phones, and to run Titanium Backup. Eventually, I'd like to upgrade to ICS. I'd welcome any help.
thanks,
Billy
Unfortunately your phone is not supported on XDA. Do not use any flashing tools from this forum. You have a high risk chance of messing up your phone. Good luck.

Can someone push the kies gingerbread tarball to mediafire or bittorrent or something.
I'd like to collect a little more info.
I will also need someone with the phone to test for me. You need to be familiar with and running linux.
I don't play well with windows and may need to remote to your linux box and get on the phone.
Hi bhundven,
Thanks for offering to help. I'm the OP of this thread. I'd like to help you help me, but I don't have a linux box nor familiar with linux. Also, what is "kies gingerbread tarball"?
I do have the phone that I can do the test for you, if you can show me what I have to do.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, bhundven!!!
Is there a Thank You button that I can click on to show my appreciation?
I have followed your link and read your other post on the 959W. A couple questions:
1, is the USB JIG a must? What does it do exactly?
2, I was not able to root the phone at all, by any of the methods found for the 959V on this forum. So, how do I upgrade to any other ROM's without rooting? Will the use of this JIG solve this issue?

The jig will force your phone into download mode no matter what, unless you are hard bricked. Its not necessarily a must but highly recommended.
I was in irc with bhundven and the other user and as long as you do not flash bootloaders using heimdall to flash something like the antonx one click kernel will get you root. Then you can flash any of the roms. Just remember dont EVER flash bootloaders until he can get a tarball and make a Heimdall one click for the 959W.
A good way to get root using heimdall is follow this post.

Werd. The only way the JIG will not work, is if you have hosed your bootloaders (specifically the SBL).
It would be awesome if someone got their T959W unbrickable modded, so we could play with bootloaders.
More so, it would be awesome if someone could get me a kies or leak tarball for me to mess with.

Some of the kernels do not install root to the rom. So you will also need to install a rom that comes with su (root).
Most of our current roms do, including cm7 and cm9.
Installing cm7 or cm9 should be the same as the instructions in the thread, but I'll reiterate this once.
Get the boot.img (see the cm7 or cm9 threads)
heimdall flash --kernel boot.img
Let the phone reboot. When you see the "Galaxy S" screen, pull the usb cable and pull the battery out of the phone.
Put the battery back in the phone. Put the backdoor back on the phone (so the battery doesn't fall out).
Hold the vol+ and the vol-, then hold the power button until you see the "Team Acid" screen. Then let go of only the power button.
When you see the clockwork mod recovery, let go of the volume buttons.
Plugin the usb cable and go to "Mounts & Storage" and enable usb storage. Copy the cm7 or cm9 zip file to your sdcard.
Don't forget to safely unmount the storage on your windows, mac, linux box before disconnecting the cable or unmounting usb storage on the phone.
Unmount usb storage on the phone.
Go back to the main menu.
Factory Reset & Wipe data
Install the cm7 or cm9 zip from the sdcard.
Report any issues on the cm7 or cm9 thread, ask any questions on the respective Q&A thread here in the Q&A forum.

2.- I used heimdall press flash and wait until the samsung screen pull the cable and battery.
3.- press volume buttons and power button then I realize that now my cellphone when i turn on it says exclusive for t movile
and after i pressed volume buttons and power the acid screen didn't appear to me also when I'm in recovery mode there is no such option as install just the update option and when i try to put the cm9 it says that it couldn't confirm the signature

What you need to do is download this Heimdall one click that is just the kernel.

Run it just like you did the other one and then you will have a custom recovery. After that you will be able to flash the roms you want.

download framaroot install it in phone choose first option install superuser when done choose second option reboot phone and bingo its rooted
I had never heard of "framaroot" before and I always like to know where software is coming from before I run it.
It looks like there is an XDA thread for it: [ROOT] Framaroot, a one-click apk to root some devices, which may have more recent versions, as well as ones that have come directly from the developer.

No ROM, stock recovery, need help!

So basically, to save time, I will cut the story time and get to the point. Basically, right now my phone is able to boot into the STOCK recovery mode, but has no ROM installed. when powered on with just the power button, the samsung splash screen shows, then the screen goes black, and thats it.
I am limited by the fact that the stock recovery requires a signed update.zip package to execute it, and have tried to get things to "sign" my own packages but it has not been working. I have the CWM ver. 3.2 update.zip and it was working before with a modified stock recovery that did not check for signatures.
So far it seems there is not a single ROM out there for my phone that is signed that I can flash. If someone knows of one that will even let me get rom manager installed and get things sorted that way that would be awesome! That is really my last idea here, not sure how to flash a new recovery from the terminal or using odin or the android SDK or whatever.
any info is appreciated!

BlindArtisan For providing the stock recovery, thanks man
I can't use the cwm because no matter what I try I can't get my goddamn phone to be recognized properly in download mode. It's seen perfectly when powered up on com3. When I go into download mode it's listed as an unspecified device and the usb modem driver doesn't turn on for the phone like it does when it's on.
Thank you for doing this it has been long overdue. Do you think you could provide the recovery image (and other files needed for installation?) without having to use the exe?

Thank you. An alternate way to install for those who are rooted and don't want to use Odin.
Create a copy of the recovery on your sdcard.
In the android terminal or adb with shell type dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
To make the recovery permanent.
Find /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Rename the file install-recovery.sh.backup
Reboot into recovery and enjoy the glory.

I had the same issue, and I narrowed it down to this: If you installed the samsung usb driver WINDOWS UPDATE then you are screwed. What you really need is a laptop with no phone drivers on it, and just plug your phone while it's on download mode and then it will be seen by ODIN. I had to use another laptop to install the recovery correctly.

You could always uninstall the drivers then install fresh ones from Samsung. Or use the in phone method.

Anyone else's recovery think it's march 13, 1970?
Also, I'm curiuos as to why it tries to fix root when I reboot and what, exactly, would it do to fix it. After reboot, root is not broken, so a fix is apparently not needed.

I have the exact same issue with the date.

Someone needs to make a video about this root method to spread the word and upload it to youtube!
Worked flawlessly on a new phone. A 6 month old one, all appears ok, it sees the phone, odin loads the image, phone reboots ok. When I try try to reboot into recovery mode I get the stock recovery, not CWM.
Any ideas?
guys i am so sorry, i had to reinstall linux and thought i lost teh device t ree, anyways i compiled a new version of OUDHS recovery for yall. and finally uploaded source
Carpboy,
Did you delete/rename install-recovery.sh as referenced earlier in thus thread?
Shabby,
Thanks a lot. What changes are there in this new version? Also are you still planning on making the source public?

source is at the link
and there is a good deal different in the latest version. honestly i suggest everyone upgrades
Just tried it.
Two things:
1.) The colors are off. I'm guessing it's identical to the issue rdawson detailed in the earlier debugging process. Also, the display jumps from side to side with each display change. I.e. each scroll up or down in a menu, also when the backup moves from file to file.
2.) The date of the backed up file is still 1970. Although, oddly, the properties of the files are dated 1979.

You're talking about the display corruption?
Your previous version worked fine. Something must have reverted.

cwm 6.0.3.3 is out for I9505

hey all, as the title states. cwm 6.0.3.3 is now available to flash through rom manager. just flashed a few new zip's and did a backup and restore without issues. I thought I would create this topic due to the fact there are so many questions floating around about different and stable recovery's for this model. happy flashing!
Thx.
Used SGS4 Flasher to flash it.
Everything works.

Available through rom manager? Bull. I get the "blah blah unsupported blah blah" message.
Downloaded manually from http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
It shows 'ClockworkMod 6.0.3.3' (after restart) and it works.
Hi,
I just bought ClockworkMod ROM Manger in the google store, simply to support the great work done.
But now I'm a little disapointed, the 6.0.3.3. supported for my I9505 is not in there, even if it is an official release (not as touch nor normal)
and
I can not find things like the cyanogen mod stuff in the ROMs area like I was used to even in the freeware for my former I9100 before.
Is the support/update within this tool so slow or even have you stopped updating the content of the ROM Manager?!
As I said I'm a bit disapointed now!
Around 5€ for that is a bit much then, isn't it?!
CWM touch you can get for free in here and the reboot to download/recovery can be set by a menue update which can be flushed.
So whats the tool then good for and worth 5€?!

You don't even need a modding to directly reboot to recovery or download mode: simply install this free app from the Google Play (root needed):
Quick Boot

Worked like a charm via SGS4 Flasher! Thank you for info.
I clicked device not listed and an option version 2.x or 3.x comes up. Which one should I pick?
