If you've had that problem even on stock then safe to assume its a hardware problem?

Workaround for headphones?

I know it is an issue that the earbuds work for listening to music. Anyone know of a workaround for them to work for phone calls? Worked just fine on my fascinate.

Sure
I can use the headphones to listen to music no problem at all. However I cannot use them at all for talking on the phone. The caller cannot hear me at all (yes I checked and they are not on mute) Ive tried 3 different pairs of headphones too.

phone calls sound fine on mine, hear it through the headphones and speak into the mic on the phone like its speakerphone.. to do it all directly through the headphones is possible you just need the proper ones
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge

hmmm ok cool thanks
Are you rooted? I think the stock rom has issues as you described, but any other rom should work fine.
...do your headphones have a mic?

Yep rooted and yea the headphones have a mic, they are my old bb storm earbuds. Weird, worked fine on my fascinate.

Lol. Was what I was thinking. I have no issues talking and listening to music on both wired and stereo Bluetooth headsets.

Mic not working after unplugging wired handsfree

I have the following problem quite frequently. I would like to know if this is common and if there is a known workaround/solution:
1. Phone works normally
2. Plug in wired hands-free to make a few calls
3. Unplug wired hands-free
4. Mic does not work on subsequent calls (both incoming and outgoing calls)
5. A reboot resolves the issue
I performed the above sequence once before posting and I could not reproduce the problem. So, it seems to be an intermittent one.
I am using the stock hands-free that comes along with the Galaxy R retail box
Thanks
This is a problem on all Galaxy R. The headset jack is faulty. Plug the headset in and out once or twice and that should fix it. Hope it helped.

You mean this is a hardware problem on Galaxy R? Can't this be fixed with some firmware upgrade in future?

Oh yeah, that makes sense, I sometimes have to unplug and replug my headphones to make the play/pause button work. Just takes a bit of getting used to.

From what I had read, it is a hardware problem. But who knows. A majority of problems can be sorted out through software. Lets wait for ICS to make sure.

Buddy the headset jack is NOT faulty.
It is a bug in the GB version.
ICS does not have this problem.
Not sure about the indian ICS.

XWLP2 POLAND rom is one of the finest roms.
Might be its your jack causing the problem then.
Try SSC then

Buddy, the user who started this thread, was having the problem with the Device's/Handset's mic and NOT WITH the headset's/hands-free's mic.
So if you have a problem with your headset's mic...there is a good chance that it is a hardware related problem.
Please try another with different headset before going to SSC.
Btw, if you need to buy new headset, I'd recommend Samsung EHS64AVFWE (with 3 buttons & mic).
It comes with Galaxy Note but it works perfectly with our device too I'm using it!

[Q] Orginal headphones sound quality.

I got my NS on December and I am extremely happy with it, though I face a problem when it comes to talking to someone through the original headset. According to them, they can hear all the background noises WAY louder than they are supposed to and they cannot hear my voice! This is clearly a headset problem since I get no such complaints when I am using the phone's microphone and although I can accept that there will be some extra bg noise when talking through the headset I find it hard to believe that I would deafen them by the use of my hands free.
Does anyone face the same problem? Does someone have to propose another kind/3rd party headset that would work better or perhaps some sort of a software tweak that elludes me...
Running ICS 4.0.4 stock unrooted.
Thank you in advance.
Was having problems with my head phones too. I bought new Samsung head phones and everything is perfect now so I'll suggest u try getting a new set.
