I got my NS on December and I am extremely happy with it, though I face a problem when it comes to talking to someone through the original headset. According to them, they can hear all the background noises WAY louder than they are supposed to and they cannot hear my voice! This is clearly a headset problem since I get no such complaints when I am using the phone's microphone and although I can accept that there will be some extra bg noise when talking through the headset I find it hard to believe that I would deafen them by the use of my hands free.
Does anyone face the same problem? Does someone have to propose another kind/3rd party headset that would work better or perhaps some sort of a software tweak that elludes me...
Running ICS 4.0.4 stock unrooted.
Thank you in advance.
Was having problems with my head phones too. I bought new Samsung head phones and everything is perfect now so I'll suggest u try getting a new set.

Just got this accessory from HTC and it doesn't work on stock rom but works flawlessly on CM10. For those that don't know what this is, its a Bluetooth dongle that transmit your music wirelessly to your factory radio in your vehicle.
I followed the instructions to the T. Can't get it to work on stock and Axiom rom. The crazy thing is A2DP works with my bluetooth ear piece and transmit music fine just not the dongle. So i narrowed it down to something to do with a sound file on stock/Sense that is missing or not working properly.
Does anyone else have this accessory and problem?

Decided to try again today with different methods in connecting my phone to the dongle. Still no go. Below i have attached a logcat rather long, but that how it is haha. So if anyone would like to look at it and try and help, it would be highly appreciated.

Nope. I can't get this clip to work with my stock One S. I swear it has something to do with Sense. Just tried my Acer tablet and it works fine. So far anything stock aosp will work.

I bought the HTC Stereo Clip off ebay and it works for me. I specifically bought it for the aptx feature. The retail packaging was a bit beat up but the actual stereo clip was mint. I'm on stock tmo rom. I did not root and flash a custom rom since I do not know if there is something only found in the stock rom that enables the aptx feature. But then again there's no way to tell if the aptx is actually working but it sounds great.
I didn't get the StereoClip, but I got the Samsung HS3000 dongle which also supports aptX (and is about half the price). I did notice that the higher quality aptX codec didn't seem to work in non-Sense roms, and only seemed to work in Sense (running Virtuous Ville+ here).
Without aptX there's some definite high frequency filtering and dynamics compression going on. With aptX it's like I've got an audio cable plugged right into the headphone jack, it's fantastic.
This is the feature that's keeping me on Sense. As soon as AOSP/AOKP's got it I'll switch back, but for now I'm quite happy with this.
I called htc tonight to find out why I can't listen to my music on my phone through the aux cable(it comes out through the phones speaker), and she told me I need a 3.5 mm aux cable that is certified to work with the one s. Does anyone know what she's talking about? Is there a special audio cable I need? Thank you.

I use a normal 3.5 mm aux cable in my car...no special "certified for the one s" one.

Thank you. I've tried 3 different ones with 2 different one s and the sound comes out of the one s speaker not through the car speakers like it should.

Are you on a 4.2 ROM?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
No. Completely stock. 4.0.4. If I plug headphones in it works fine just won't play through car speakers. Am I missing a setting somewhere? Thank you.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
No it should just detect it, I would say its something wrong with your cars aux input if you've tried multiple aux cables and devices.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Problem with that is, I've tried it in 3 different cars with 3 different cables with 2 different one s. Really bizarre.

Then it's your phone. Take it to your carrier and ask them to change it. Are you running a custom ROM? That might also be the issue.
Thank you. I've already exchanged the phone once and it happens on my other one s also. We have 2 t-mobile one s and it happens with both off them and the one I replaced. 3 different cables, 3 different cars, 3 different one s. And I am on stock Rom android version 4.0.4.

Default music player
Hello, I am using the default music player. I have tried tune in radio and the same thing. I will try google music today and see if there's any change. Does anyone have the brand of they cable they use and I can get one and try it. My aux cables work with other phones including Galaxy s3 not not sure why they wouldn't work with these phones. Thank you.

The problem isn't the cables if they work for other phones.
The problem is either hardware, or you.
I don't see how your phone works with headphones, but not with an aux cable. It's the same thing.

For my phone even if I just plug in the aux to my phone and leave the other end unplugged the audio goes through the aux.

Still nothing
I spoke with a nice woman from T-Mobile and she said two people she works with have the One S and she is going to take them to her car and try them both and get me the firmware version and the brand of Aux cable she is using, I bought a new Aux cable to try in the meantime and still no sound through car speakers. I tried all 3 cars, I then took our old MyTouch 4g and tried that and it worked in all 3 cars. Really strange issue. We'll see what she comes up with, otherwise she says I can return the phones for another brand but I really like this phone and would like to keep it. Thank you everyone who responded and I'll keep you posted, In the meantime, keep the suggestions coming, Thank you.

You can manually force the audio to come out the aux using an app. It would get annoying, but it should work.

Never called
So, It's now Wednesday evening and the nice woman from T-Mobile never called back. She was supposed to call Tuesday morning. I can see why they are bottom on the customer satisfaction ratings. I'll have to live with the fact that I can't play music through my car stereo I guess. Thank you all for the suggestions. Really disappointed with T-Mobile right now. Been a customer for 13 years and I notice how each year the support gets worse.

Ok maybe I'm missing something here but do you have a cover on your phone? Maybe the headphones plug all the way in but not your cable? I use monster and griffin brands and both work fine.
Edit:Also if you have been with T-Mobile for a long time (I've been with them for 12 yaers) then when you call tell them you want to talk to customer loyalty team they will hook you up.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do not have a cover on either phone and the aux cable is as far in as possible. I'll have to try customer loyalty and see off that works. So far nothing. I don't know what the odds are of the phones not working on one of 3 aux cables and 3 different cars, but I'd say it should work on at least one of them. All of my other phones have worked on all 3. I'll try calling again. Thank you.

Has anyone else had the same problems I've been having? The battery life Is horrible. The Bluetooth never stays connected and when I get frustrated with the Bluetooth I try it use a set of in ear headphones with mic but that only works when it wants to. I've about had it I bought a moto x to try before I completely give up on the nexus. And I really don't want to have to go back to the iPhone 5 but I NEVER had any problems out of the iPhone. Thank guys and girls

Hey,
Has anyone else had problems where people can't hear you during voice calls? It seems like people complain that they can't hear me unless I hold the phone right up to my face.
I have the "official" bumper case, but other than that, nothing special. The phone is from the 14 batch (manufactured 12/12/2013) -- and is running CM 11 M3.
Any thoughts/advice? Thanks.
-- Dan
I've had people mention this too. Any ideas?
I've experienced this too. People say that they can't hear me clearly.
Saw this thread on Google Forums... People seem to think it might be software related to the noise canceling mic. Doesn't look like there's any fix yet.

Man HD voice sure is nice.
But I have to sometimes end the call and start over. Actually frequently.
Good thing I don't call a lot of people.
I want to love this phone but I am having difficulty for one reason: Bluetooth issues.
So I have a Note 3, my wife has an S4, a friend has an S5. 2 I know have the M8. I loved the Note 3 but Kit Kat has killed it until I can root it at least.
Anyway, all of these phones work flawlessly streaming bluetooth music to my car EXCEPT the M8. I had a Rezound for 5 minutes and it had the same issue. It is just this annoying clicking sound that is similar but worse than the stock camera click. It happens about every 10 seconds on the dot. I drive a 2011 Kia Optima LX (daddy car, ha). I know it isn't boom sound because that isn't enabled over bluetooth. I tried playing with max volume, low volume, mid volume. I tried a 3rd party equalizer. I tried streaming music, youtube videos/music, local files...all the same clicking. ALL HTC phones I have tried have the same issue! I I have no idea what to try. I also tried turning NFC off...wifi off. Driving out into the middle of nowhere to make sure there is no interference. This does not happen through the speakers or headphones. Only Bluetooth. I am at wits end!
I really would hate to return this over that issue, but I will. I want to love it - but something like this is annoying enough to make me hate it. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I cold do to fix this?
Thanks for any information.
I have the same problem with Pandora over Bluetooth in a Chevy Equinox and on my Beats Box portable. This did Not happen with my HTC Rezound. Does anyone have a fix for this ? Just makes me want to explode !

Hmm. Well that's interesting. Maybe I just got a dud this round. Do you happen to have a car bluetooth that streams media?
FWIW I have horrendous issues with the HTC m8 and the A2DP BT Audio Streaming in my car where in the past my S3 and S4 had 0 issues what so ever.
In some cases it won't pair consistently and other times even when it is paired, I can't control the app to play/advance tracks. I hope/expect HTC is aware of this and is working on a resolution.

Last question, have you tried using google play music at the highest quality setting? After further research - I believe this is directly related to the known issue with FLAC files. HQ Play Music will stream FLAC depending on the artist. I would be interested as to if you have tried that at all and if it exists on viper rom.
I was able to repro the issue on multiple devices and that enabled me to narrow the device itself out. That's kind of good/bad news, haha. Google has a fix but it did not make the cut for 4.4.2 - so I am curious as to if some of the leaked stuff has the fix or not. Trial and error will likely be the only way to know. http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...nd-stuttering-on-android-4-4-a-fix-is-coming/ describes the issue to a T.
